  1. During my 5 day preop diet, I lost 11 pounds. A week after surgery, I lost 5 pounds. During this time, I got my first fill of 1.5 cc. It's been two weeks and NO weight loss! Today, the doctor added 2.5 cc and now I'm at 4.0 cc. I am praying that with this second fill I would stop being hungry and start losing some weight.

    Pain Pain Go Away!!

And one more thing....the gas took about a week to leave my body. But, you will feel gassy when you drink your water or protein drinks. You will also feel bloated because there is swelling from the surgery. The swelling has taken about 2 wks to subside for me. Hang in there. It's just been 3 days.
  3. Hi everyone. I am over 1 year post-op, and I just found out I'm pregnant! I still have not gone to see my gyn or sleeve doc, but I am already having food aversions. How much should I be eating each day? I am currently at ~1200 calories a day and maintaining my weight. I don't want to gain more than 25 lbs during pregnancy. Any advice would be appreciated!

    1 year, 3 months post-op and pregnant

So far, I have lost 3 lbs! But I am only at 5w2d.

    Cold / Hot Post Operative

I would be calling the doc. I was cold the first few weeks, not extremely but somewhat. The blue nails, bad memory...not sure that is ok. Better to se safe than sorry right? Best of luck to you.
  6. Thank you all for your comments - she's on her way home to have band removed late this week... My questions is concerning my mom. She was banded by another Dr 1 yr ago and has been having severe problems for about 4 months w/ servere acid reflux and vomiting. She has contacted her Dr several times but is not getting a response. Also, she is in <ST1:p<?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comIraq </st1:country-region></ST1:pand can not get home easily to see the doctor. Also, she has only lost about 15 lbs since the surgery. Any help would be greatly appreciated as she is very worried. Thank you in advance for your advice.

    Common channel

I had a sleeve to single-anastomosis duodenal switch revision with a 300 cm common channel. I didn't have a DS or gastric bypass initially because the amount of malabsorption with a 100-150 cm common channel scares me. If this SA-DS had been around 3 years ago I might have gone for it.
  9. I just had my labs done yesterday and the nurse told me that it takes around 3 weeks for the results to come back from all of the tests - 14 big vials of blood - glad I brought a string cheese to eat, still staggered out of the office after sitting for 15 minutes lol.
  10. The best decision you can make is to do something to improve your health. I am one week and one day post op and the only regret I have is that I didn't do it sooner. It is definitely not the easy way out. Those who say that just think the surgery makes you lose the weight. The reality is that it is a tool along with better eating habits, the fact your food volume is severely reduced and you still must exercise. The pre-op diet wasn't that big of a deal for me. I had to do 2 weeks of it and I lost 20 pounds in those 2 weeks so it gave me motivation to get to the finish line of it. Once I got into the routine of it I didn't even eat the freebies like broth! I changed my eating habits at my consult at end of January this year, had surgery May 15th and with all I did lost 48 pounds so far. You will be amazed how well you an do with the tools you are given. Good for you for starting the process again! Good luck and keep us posted on your progress!!
  11. I was there last week and it was horrible!! I ended up having one very bad day, but I'm back on the wagon now and not having an issue (especially since that wicked witch Aunt Flow has left!!!!!!) I usually allow myself a "cheat" meal anyway once a week, as does my boyfriend who has had extrememly successful weightloss. Yes, keep it under control, No don't make yourself feel bad. No one is perfect and to expect perfection will just lead us all down that path of failure all over again. Congrats on your weightloss!!!!

    Ice cubes...

It's hard to know how to answer because I don't know if you are pre-op or post-op, and, if post-op, how long ago was your surgery? If you are post-op and still on liquids, it doesn't make a lot of difference. The big issue with drinking versus eating is that with the small stomach, you need to have it empty for food--which will fill you up when it's solid food versus liquid or mushy food--and you also don't want to wash it through your system without having time to digest it. But if in the first one to three weeks post-surgery, go ahead and have the ice or popsicle.
  13. it's weird--my restriction seems to vary by day. Today I feel like I'm getting restriction just from drinking and don't seem to want food at all. Other days, I feel like I can eat 3/4 to a cup of food--mostly lettuce with a little protein on top (more fibrous veggies fill me up more and I can eat about half a cup). I'm about 10.5 weeks out.

    You are making tremendous progress. Keep thinking positive about it even when you don't feel positive. VSG 10/11/17 HW = 360 SW = 292 GW #1 = 220 3/7/18 Final GW #2 = 210 (6'5") [emoji256]

  17. WOW what a great weight loss!! I'm a month out too, but have only lost 6kgs (which is just over 13lbs) but I lost a fair bit before surgery so am actually about halfway to my goal. It fascinates me as well to see how things have changed - the volume of food I could pack in before surgery was pretty piggy really (well I didn't get overweight by having a delicate appetite!) and I'm so happy to be full on a small portion. One egg and I'm stuffed full...... from someone who could eat a 3 egg cheese and vege omelette and be lining up for toast as well! I've never been a fast loser, but at least it seems achievable now without feeling deprived and "on a diet" - roll on (or off!) the next 20kgs
  18. I have no suggestion for the hair loss..I've been losing mine since 3 months out. But if you are stalling that long, I'd try shaking things up a bit. Change your caloric intake or Lilmissdiva's bootcamp might be a good place to start,,it's worth a try. Cutting carbs helped me shed 6 pounds in 1 week and I always felt full. Slowly adding back healthy carbs this week and the weightloss slowed down but I'm still losing. Logging what you eat in a journal or at myfitnesspal.com helps you see exactly what you are taking in. Increase exercise might be another avenue you can take. I'm so sorry things aren't working out for you this far out.

    Aetna~~

I got a bill from my Dr. for 10.00 so I dunno lol I'll take that bill in tomorrow (I had to reschudle) because I overslept and its a 3 hr drive Ins lady at Dr office said that even so people have had that letter, Aetna only paid 25.00 of the fill...So that leaves me with 150.00 fills I guess dunno we'll see what happens tomorrow!
  20. Me too but I expected to have to eat every few hours. My advice would be to eat something (nutritious) if you are hungry. I plan for 3 meals and 2-3 snacks a day (as recommended by my dietician), so I usually don't go more than 3 hours without eating.

    Staples

I did. Were removed about 2 weeks later, but if they start getting red and angry like this picture, get them out right away. This was right after I had them removed. I developed what is called contact dermatitis. I was told by my doctor that I should have called as soon as they started looking angry like that
  22. My new stomach has been going crazy the past two days! It's like gas is constantly trapped and I belch all the time. It was not like this before AT ALL! Could it be reflux, a leak, gallstones? It makes me not want to eat because then it goes nuts sounding. I'm not really uncomfortable besides the belching all the time. Opinions?

    incorperating new foods

Every carb has the potential to be 'bad carb' unless it comes from certain fruits and legumes. Heavy starches such as bread and Pasta can cause weight loss to abate. Btw, I recommend that you use Ketostix to assure your body is in state of Ketosis at all times. Many folks who post here about stalls may actually have created the stall by consuming too many carbs, even if keeping calories in check. -RC-

New to Gainesville Florida, Need Fill Doctor

Hello fellow lapbanders. Just a warning. I had my lapband in for 5 years. Last January my port area started to become inflamed with a red area around it. It eventually looked like an half of an egg raised up. It was so painful. My Doctor finally did a scope down my throat and found that the lapband was growing right into my stomach. After a 4 1/2 hour surgery, they finally got it out. I was in the hospital 3 weeks. I ended up in ICU for 3 days. I almost died. I'm not saying don't do it. Just have your Dr. do a scope down your our throat every 6 months. It worked for me. I lost my weight in about 1 and 1/2 years. I'm at a comfortable weight now. I just think if you do not monitor the banding, our bodies will try to incorporate the band into our bodies. Good luck everyone.
