    January surgeries?!

I really like your posts because they make me feel normal. I’m on day 5 and my left side is horrendous!! And just like you, I have no energy. I’m having to force myself to chew vitamins and drink protein!! I sure hope we look back on this experience and say, “Shoot, I’d do this all over again 10 times!!” mal
  4. Good afternoon, my name is Mousecat and I am a cat addict. I live alone and I just have to give a public forum shoutout to my two kitties for being my crutch through all the post-op BS (and life BS in general). I have an (almost) 10 year old boy named Mouse who I rescued from a Baltimore City shelter at 8 weeks. He was very sickly and I nursed him to health. He has been everywhere with me and is my rock. My other boy is Nugget who is a year and a half and I found him in my mom's backyard at 3 weeks old and bottlefed. He had a number of near-death scares and I am embarrassed to say how much $$ I spent keeping him alive. He is my goofy boy. I just don't know what I would do without them. Mouse know when I am sad or sick and will be glued to me the whole time. Nugget is a derp and makes my home joyful. Any special fur kids in your life? I am so grateful for their furry little existence.

    ❤ JANUARY 2019 CHALLENGE ❤

#27 - My current struggles What's the character limit on here? Primarily, getting my protein in. I am not a huge protein lover, so prioritizing protein takes effort. But even when I make the effort, my restriction generally doesn't allow me to get close to 60 g without some form of protein supplementation, like shakes or bars. I have found shakes and bars I can tolerate, but none I really want to eat. It worries me that going forward I'm going have have to force myself to eat borderline gross protein supplements or only get 30 g or so per day otherwise. Secondarily, finding where I can maintain vs. lose. I think maybe my body wants to be in the low 130's, for right now at least? It's really nice to be able to eat pretty freely and not gain. But I'm also scared if I will be able to do the same 6 months from now, or a year from now. Finally, my naked self, I really don't like. It seems these last 10-20 lbs hit me the hardest negatively physically. I lost a cup size + in the last month, my butt is significantly flatter and my thighs are way saggier looking. Seriously makes me want to cry.

    Post Surgery

I had the gastric bypass surgery on 01-23 so I’m in the liquid and purée stage. Any tips on how to get all my ounces of liquid and protein in. I literally eat or Drink like 2 bites and I’m super full.
  8. I understand that weight gain and loss (beyond the usual 10-15 pound swings most people experience) is based on insulin resistance rather than total calorie consumption. However, even with diets that are not based entirely on cutting calories--like Keto and Atkins--still place limits on total consumption and advocate weight food so you can track your macros. Ultimately, the idea is that the fat and protein that makes up 90% of your consumption on these diets will be more satiating, so you end up eating less because you have less cravings and hunger. Regardless of how the goal is achieved, one of the goals is a reduction or moderation in total caloric intake for someone that has weight they need to lose. Keto, in particular, focuses on insulin control, but by adding in intermittent fasting (which most strict keto people incorporate at some point), you're definitely cutting calories by limiting the window for eating. You're not strictly counting calories like you would on a diet like weight watchers (probably one of the worst diets out there IMO), but the calories are cut anyway (it's just a less painful process in my experience). Anyway, I am happy with following a keto style diet (constipation notwithstanding). It's something I can do long term, but I can't follow a therapeutic style keto with a 4:1 fat to protein ration or anything close that as a new sleever (6 weeks post-op). Based on my workout regimen, I need to get around 125-150g or protein in a day (even with the protein/muscle sparing qualities of Keto) and there's a limit to how much else I can eat (even with calorie dense fats like avocado). I also don't want to deviate too far from my doctor's prescribed diet at this point, so I doing a 1:1 fat to protein diet (sticking to clean, high quality fats and proteins) and I cut carbs to less than 20g net carbs. I pretty happy with this and it sets enough ground rules that I can easily decide what I can eat and how much of it---even when I am out a restaurant.
  9. Good Morning! This is my first post. I made the decision to have this surgery last year. I finally saw my doctor to send in her referral in December. Time has flown by so fast since then as well as the process. I've had my first surgeon appointment & met with him & his team. I've had my blood tests and first month visit with the Dietician. I have been approved by everyone, just waiting on the insurance to approve me. I am a Senior Lady at 66 years old with Type 2 Diabetes. I wish I had made this decision many, many years ago, but I was like a lot of people swayed by the stigma that once was attached to WLS. My surgeon has recommended VSG. I have been reading posts on the forums for a month or so. I didn't want to post until I knew this was going to happen. They are looking at April 2019 for my surgery. I'm really excited & nervous at the same time.

    Trim Away

Your not alone in having a weight gain after a year or more. I'm a sleeve four and a half years out. I've had to work off a regain. This is just a set back. You can get back on track. You can get your body back in weight loss mode without being dependant on pills. My two cents on pills: Pills are not long term sustainable for weight loss. Majority of them don't work. Phentermine has side effects and most people gain weight once the prescription is over. Weight loss and maintaining is work. There are no shortcuts. some things to try: Log your food and stick to your weight loss calories and macros for the day You are over a year out. Get rid of the shakes. Real whole foods will keep you feeling more satiated. Sleeves can consume more food years out. Eat more veggies with your Protein to fill the extra space and keep your calories down. It will help with hunger Spread meals out 5 to 6 meals a day Get temptation food out of the house Keep healthy options for sweet and salty cravings in the house find counselor or therapist Join a weight loss challenge. Congrats on five years out and all your weight loss. Weight loss takes work. There are no shortcuts. I'm glad you are taking control of this now. Getting a sleeve done... start to finish

So the sleep study was done.. that was annoying. I haven't gotten the results back yet but hopefully soon. I think I did it wrong the first night and put it on backwards. I also got annoyed in my sleep and disconnected the pulse oximeter. Echocardiogram was done 1/25/19. On Saturday, 1/26, I got a call from Chrias surgicenter. They set a date for my surgery. 3/12/19. I have to have an xray done still and they said to do my bloodwork right away. So tomorrow I'll do that, Wednesday I have my appointment for surgery clearance with my pcp. Thursday I have the stress test and the chest xray. And I thought this week was going to be a quiet week. LOL. Then next week I only have the cardiologist. Hopefully I'll get clearance then from him. The following week I have my (hopefully) last pre-surgery nutrition on Monday. Thursday 2/14 I have to check in with Chrias. Friday I have my normal psych appointment. I wonder what he'll say about meds. I was talking with a coworker and she said rather than jump right in to the liquids on 2/26 maybe I should ease into it ahead of time. I think starting 2/20 I am going to switch my dinner meal to a shake and stop soda 2/14

  15. Forums Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forum Post Reply Revision from Sleeve to By-Pass lrm1986 on 1/21/19 10:19 am Hey there, I’ve not posted for a very long time. I had sleeve in 2014 like many I have horrible GERD, my doctor recommended revision about a year ago and I chickened out. I love my sleeve and I really don’t want to have surgery but I’m diabetic and my Endocrinologist says the antacids have a high potential to cause kidney damage over the long haul (which diabetics are already prone too)..so he wants me off of them! I’m at my goal weight, so I’m not worried about losing anymore but my sleeve never put my diabetes in full remission, it did get better but I’m still in two meds, I’m wondering if any sleevers had this happen with their diabetes and did a revision then put it in remission? Also how long were you off work with revision? Any other tips or information would be great! Thanks

    ❤ JANUARY 2019 CHALLENGE ❤

Current Struggle: snacking in the evening This has always been a terrible habit of mine; one I broke about 4 months before surgery and I was really proud of myself. UGH! I tried getting myself back on intermittent fasting but I'm just not ready for it yet. Can't get enough calories in to keep my weight loss up while weight training at the gym. Anyway, none of that is a good excuse for driving by the pantry for a handful of nuts. Then 10 minutes later a piece of cheese. Then 15 minutes later a bite of fruit. You get the picture. I have planned for a healthy protein-heavy early evening snack around 7:30pm. (we eat dinner super early due to hubby's IF and kids who go to bed early) But I want to eat a FUN snack while I watch TV. I'm actually thinking about finding another activity to do in the evenings instead of TV watching because it's a slippery slope with the snacks! This is the section of the pantry I'm not supposed to be looking in. I need to clean it out!!!😐

    Real Good Pizza Co

Here’s a recipe for a crust if you want to try to make your own — you can top it with whatever toppings you like. You might want to adjust for portions. I am pre op for a few more days but I will probably continue to make this post op when I am able to eat these foods. Recipe is for 2 pizzas Large can chicken breast drained and chopped up good 1/2 c Parmesan chz 1/4 c mozzarella chz 1 egg 1 tsp garlic powder 2 tbsp mayo of choice (I use avocado mayo) Salt and pepper Mix well Place on parchment paper and form into shape of pizza crust, not too thick... Bake on 475 for 10-15 min Flip cook addtl 5-10 ( should be held together and crispy) now add toppings Bake addtl 5-10 min

    ❤ JANUARY 2019 CHALLENGE ❤

My current struggle is head hunger. I think it's because another of my kids is moving out in about 10 days. Self-medicating. One is only about 50 miles away, but 2 will be 1,100+ miles away in Florida. The fourth one is still at home but will be graduating in September. I may chain him to the porch. Empty nest syndrome - big time!

    Hypothyroid Sleevers?

Yes, I also have hypothyroidism but hadn't considered how it's going to affect my weight loss post-sleeve. Good question! My surgery was 12/11 and I've lost 19 pounds.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Hey my February surgery friends! I’m somehow surviving my liquid pre op diet. Today is Sunday and I’m down 10 pounds since Monday! I know the weight loss will be slower next week, but I really hope to get another 5 pounds off.

  24. Sleeved February 4, 2017 Bypass January 24, 2019 I had the revision due to acid reflux. I have a lot of discomfort in my upper back/shoulder area that I didn’t have after the sleeve. Yesterday I also had extreme constipation and think I may have pushed to hard (sorry TMI but I can’t find help online). Anyhow. I don’t have continual pain in my abdomen, just when I move and no leakage. It’s more the back pain/discomfort that is concerning me. Thinking about it it goes from mid back up to shoulders. I can only sleep lying on my back as I’m scared to lie on my side and end up getting up every 2 hours due to my back. So I guess my questions are: is this discomfort/pain normal? When should I be concerned? No vomiting, fast heart rate, nausea... I'm pretty sure the gas has passed now. Sorry this is all over the place. I hope this makes sense. It’s 136 am 😂
