    Ideas for on-the-go lunches?

@@Indieflickers I too dislike the use of artificial ingredients and try really hard adapt recipes that call for them in other ways. I do use Splenda more than I care to but I don't use it a ton. I am getting more on board with Stevia and Monk Fruit; though I still find both to leave something to be desired. I bought this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LMJ26YG/ref=ox_sc_act_title_4?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER And it keeps my yogurt, my hummus, my chicken/egg salad and whatever other "cold" foods cold. It also keeps everything really fresh, it is super attractive and I get compliments on it daily. I had one lady ask me "why do you keep your lunch in that pretty purse?" She was amazed when I showed her it was my lunch bag!

    Protein Options

Looked at smoothie King website and they are all super high in carbs. Even the lean and slim-n-trim and Greek yogurt and high Protein and "shredder" ones. The one with the least carbs (vanilla Shredder) has 30g carbs and 12g sugar. The Greek yogurt ones have over 60g sugar. The one that might be ok is the Gladiator IF you have it with no fruit: http://www.smoothieking.com/menu/smoothies/fitness-blends/gladiator It's 180 calories with 45g of protein and no carbs. Use the link above to see how the macros change with adding fruit. I would stay far away from most of these during the loss phase. Even being in maintenance I would stay away except for when I have a race coming up--I'm a distance runner. Way too much sugar and carbs.

    Ideas for on-the-go lunches?

Cottage cheese Cups, Greek Yogurt with some trail mix mixed in for substance, chicken salad ( you can make a big batch to last you through the week), Hard boiled eggs (I make mine into deviled eggs), in a pinch I always have Protein bars on hand. Hope this helps a little.
  5. @@Skinny Steps - at 8 months you should be able to tolerate more protein heavy food such as tuna, chicken, beef, pork, cheese, Greek yogurt, beef jerky, etc. At 5 months post-op, I do still have 1 Premier Protein shake per day but I am easily getting 50 to 70g per day from food. Are you not able to tolerate these things? What are you eating? If vegetarian, there are also choices such as beans, legumes, nuts, etc. You need to meet with a NUT ASAP and get your intake evaluated.

    My Favorite Meal!

This is my lunch go-to; I eat it almost every day and never seem to get tired of it: Buffalo chicken salad Shredded chicken breast, about 9 oz. (I usually poach my own, but I've also used canned or the Perdue Short Cuts) 2 oz. crumbled blue cheese 5.3 oz container plain Greek yogurt chopped celery/onion garlic powder/dried dill/S&P to taste Frank's Red Hot until it's at your preferred spice level. This lasts me all week, and I typically eat it with pork rinds or 34 degree crackers.

Any Oct 6 Sleevers out there?

I am eating about 4 ounces every meal. I feel the restriction after my last 1-2 bites. I have no real restriction on liquids. 5.3 ounces of yogurt, no problem (although I don't eat yogurt very often). Why do you think they're recommending 2 ounce portions? My guess is it's a "one size fits all" prescription and they want their 50+ BMI'rs to get to their goal before the honeymoon ends. I'm losing faster in month 2, than I did in month 1 and I think my friends think I have cancer. I think it's from eating meat instead of refried beans and sweet potatoes. What do you think?

    My Favorite Meal!

Crock pot steel cut oats. I like them but could never get them as soft/creamy as I liked. Then I discovered making them in the crock pot. Nothing fancy. Just plain steel cut oats. 1 cup is enough for me and last for 2 or 3 meals. I like to rinse them before cooking. Dump in the crock pot with enough Water to cover. I toss in a cinnamon stick and a bit of salt. I also add about a quarter cup of raisins or dried cranberries and then an 11ounce container of RTD vanilla Protein powder or a scoop of vanilla Protein Powder dissolved in water. 1 tbsp of brown sugar is an optional addition. Stir well and cook on low overnight. I also made a snack last night that hit my sweet spot. 2tbsp unsweetened shredded coconut. 1 scoop vanilla protein powder. 1 tbsp of water. Blend in nutra bullet until it makes a paste. Fold into half a cup of plain greek yogurt. It tasted like the insides of a mounds. Optional garnshes I plan to try: cacao powder and almond slivers. One of my favorite dinners is black bean, topped with a fried egg, shredded cheese, dice tomatoes, dice avocado and 1 tbsp of greek yogurt.

    Antibiotics and Nutrition

Hmm, I always heard to take antibiotics with yogurt, so that the yogurt can combat the bacterial imbalance in your gut, and reduce the side effects from abx. Never realized that it could compromise the efficacy of the antibiotics. I will have to study that further.

    Protein Options

Depends on what's in the smoothie. Many of them are full of fruit/sugar/carbs (like Jamba Juice and that type). Those really shouldn't be part of your diet. If you want to make your own with protein powder and Greek yogurt and ice, sure why not!

    My Favorite Meal!

My favorite snack is Dubliner cheese with Mary's Gone Crackers. That and Dannon Light & Fit strawberry Cheesecake Greek Yogurt. I never even imagined a flavor like that existed. Thanks to a vet who turned me onto that. I also like nearly anything with onions, celery, carrots, garlic and mushrooms in a little olive oil. That has been the start to many different dishes including slow roasted free range chicken (3 hours at 275 degrees).

5 days post-op and constant burping

Hi Finding Myself again - well, I stopped the Isopure all together and I feel terrific. The nurse called me today to follow up and she said that was fine, that even when I tried to dilute it, it still hurt like hell. She said it must be the concentrate of the drink that I can't tolerate and not to worry. I start my protein shakes tomorrow (Premier Protein) and yogurt and she suggests I stick with those 2 to see how I do and if I want to throw in an occasional broth, I can do that too. I've been out walking, today I walked, a lot and it felt so good. I barely have the burping anymore, but do have the "crampy" like feeling in my stomach - almost like a bloated bruised feeling. That's the best way I can explain it, but I will take that any day over what I was experiencing with the painful burping. How are you feeling? When was your surgery? Any issues or is it smooth sailing for you?

I was eating a whole Greek yogurt cup. Not good. Only 3 tablespoons. Things like chicken I feel the restriction.

A Sample Menu for the day

I make a lot of things in bulk (crock pot cooking) then divide them into small 4 ounce containers and freeze. I'm 5 months out, but here is a normal day (approx 700 calories): - Oh Yeah Protein shake (add sugar free fat free Jello pudding mix to switch up the favors) - Dannon Lite and Fit Greek Yogurt - 4 ounces of crock pot chicken with Italian seasonings and broccoli - 4 ounces of Taco meat with fat free cheese - egg with fat free cheese and Jimmy Dean sausage crumbles I am a gal of convenience, also like P3 Protein Snacks, can get them any grocery in the deli meat section..... A little snack pack with turkey, cheese and nuts...about 170 calories I also make cauliflower casserole and put it in the 4 oz containers Hope this helps
  20. I agree that surgeon's plans run the gammit. I was allowed to eat runny oatmeal and greek yogurt while in the hospital ( 2nd day post op) as well as swallow pain pills and other medications including the pill form of a multivitamin. I started on soft foods ( eggs, tuna, fish) 6 days post op. I have never been nauseated or had pain with eating. One plan does not fit all! I am 3 wks post op and down 19 lbs but am currently at a stall.

    Refried Beans

Try thinning out with broth. I like to garnish with diced avocado, diced tomato and a scoop of plain greek yogurt instead of sour cream. It's less fat more Protein. However I agree with @@lauraellen80 you may ant to try it plain first to make sure your tummy can tolerate it. All dressed up it's hard to tell what you are reacting to.
  22. First of all, congratulations on leasving that relationship behind. I have been there and after 25 years I was able to get out. It is a tough road. I am now happily married to a wonderful man. Three weeks after my surgery he had a pacemaker installed and 10 days after that he was diagnosed with metastatic brain tumor. Talk aobut stress!! He is not under going radiation after brain surgery and tomorrow a biopsy on the spot on his lung wher the drs think the cancer started. Chemo starts next week, as well as treatment on the lung. ' One would think with all the time spent at the hospital for surgery, treatments and appointments with my husband, I would have been eating healthy, but so many of the foods there are not what I needed. I eat a lot of cottage cheese, sometimes with bits of tomato and or cucumber for added flavor. Breakfast is usually a protein shake. Premire Protein has 30 g of protein and I buy it at Sam's Club at a discount. Lunch varies: the cottage cheese, tuna salad in a small wheat tortilla, bean soup, or a scrambled egg. I cook dinner for my husband or we go out. I stick to grilled chicken, or just some of the protein in the meals I cook. After I get in the protein I am usually full. I have always been an evening snacker and if I need more protein I either have a small amount of nuts, cottage cheese, yogurt or string cheese. I have been staying around 700 calories with this and have lost 37 lbs since my sleeve on Aug. 18. I use the online SparkPeople site to track my foods (calories, protein, etc), water, and exercise, although exercise is mostly just walking on the treadmill as I generally stay close to husband at home during this ordeal. The daily tracking has really helped me. I also track my weight and have had several stalls. If a stall goes beyond 5 days, I increase my calories to 900-1000 for a couple days and I usually start to lose. I feel so uncomfprtable eating that much, but it pushes the weight loss. I feel for you and understand your stress and depression. Please message me any time you need to talk. I can be here for you no matter how far away!

    The Plateau From Hell

Longest was stalled for 3 weeks .... ugh!!! NUT told me to try to increase my Fluid intake and to make sure my Protein was a minimum of 70g per day. Also she suggested I change up my meal routine and my exercise routine to "shake up" my body. So, instead of my normal yogurt for Breakfast I had dinner at breakfast (larger meal) and then 3 small meals the rest of the day. I also mixed up my walking routes so that I wasn't doing the same hills at the same time. 2 days later my stall was over. Done that twice now and it seems to work. Good luck!!!!
  24. I got some Okois triple zero yogurt yesterday because others had mentioned it on this site. Although I am lactose intolerant, I tolerated it well and it went down well also. It has 15 grams of Protein per serving, which is nice. I also got some Fairlife milk. It is lactose free and has 13 grams protein per 8 oz glass. I will probably incorporate that as a snack.

A Sample Menu for the day

For breakfast I usually have Protein oatmeal or a hard boiled egg or scrambled egg with a slice of cheese melted on top. For lunch I usually have a scoop of chicken salad made with "light" mayo & a tiny side salad. Other things I've done for lunch include a subway chicken teriyaki salad, chili, basically some kind of lean protein and if I still have room some veggie of some sort. For afternoon/evening snack I usually have either protein hot chocolate, greek yogurt, ff cheese stick , peanuts, hard boiled egg, celery with Peanut Butter (probably can't do that though at 2 moths post op) For dinner I sometimes just have the protein part of whatever my family is eating, but if that doesn't work something quick and easy is to keep a big bag of frozen shrimp or chicken breast cutlets, throw a couple on the stove and saute them with light soy sauce and a few florets of frozen broccoli. I also like crockpot quickies. i like to throw some frozen chicken breasts in the crock pot with a bottle of fat free Italian dressing and that gets me through much of the week. I can eat them alone, on a side salad, etc. Hope that helps!
