    Using the Scale for Accountability

I'm 8 months out and until just last month I only weighed once a week, because of the freak out issue. Around I guess a month and a half I had a stall it lasted till about nine days ago. I started to weigh everyday. I had started working out really faithfully, and eating right, I knew I was doing the right things and somehow the freak out issue left. I know the closer I get to goal I will want to rely on how I feel, look more than the number so it is OK if I stall. My size is continuing to shrink and my shape is defining. I have lost 123 since August, went from a 5x to a xl top comfortably, 32w to 16/14. I'm feeling great and starting to finally "see" the changes. I really feel like weighing everyday will prepare me for maintenance. I've talked to my "skinny" friends most of them weigh everyday, most of them have a ten pound range that they allow their bodies the fluctuation that we all know we have, if they go five pounds up... They start to watch what they eat... Closer to ten really go strict on diet and up exercise until back in range... Most of them never get to ten because they are watching. Sorry for the novel... But this is a great question. I will be interested to read others comments. My stats SW 8/7/12 347 Cw 4/18/13 223

    Flu Shot

I just had surgery yesterday and they emphasized that I couldn't get the flu shot for 3 weeks.
  5. and are you at your sweet spot?? I have noticed that the Realize band may take more of a fill then the Allergen band. I'm a bit worried since I have 6.5 cc's in my realize band and I know I could still use a bit more. Not sure if its 1cc or .5 etc but I know I could use something where I have seen people with other bands hitting goad with 3 or 5 cc's in there band... Just wondering..... I know we are all different, etc... I go for another fill on Monday. I'm only 9 weeks out and doing great but just wondering....

Sleeved 11/21 too much fluid intake?

I know it seems dumb to be worried about doing good. But I was just concerned cause I hadn't seen anyone else doing as good. Until I posted here of course. I'm happy it's going well don't get me wrong. I know everyone is different. It just seemed too good to be true. Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using BariatricPal mobile app

    Time off from work?

I was back at work after 7 days off. I didn't have a very easy recovery. I had lots of gas pains for days. But, from reading other posts on here, there are many people that had an easy recovery and at least one poster said he was back at work after 3 days. So I guess it all depends on your surgeon and your ability to recover. If your job is like mine (a desk job requiring no heavy lifting) then you could go back to work sooner than someone that has to stoop, bend and lift all day. My motto is: Hope for the best, plan for the worst.
  8. My first fill was about 4 weeks out. I went back to the gym using the tread mill starting slowly (30 minutes) at day 4. My doctor said I could resume lap swimming (which I was doing 7 days a week) after 2 weeks.
  9. Good luck...you must be so excited. I have a date of the 10th....less than two weeks now. It's a little scary but am very excited.

    First NSV!

So, last night we were invited to go over to my sis-in-law's house to have BBQ and drinks and hang out. Well, since I am only one week out from surgery I did not think that the 8lbs that I have lost are that noticeable. So, I just put on some jogging pants and blouse that I would always wear. THE FIRST thing my sis-in-law said was that she could see I was losing weight! Mind you, they do not know about my operation. I was so happy on the outside and jumping for joy on the inside! It was my first family gathering since the surgery. It did not bother me that everyone was eating and drinking around me. I took my little can of Soup and drank it there with them at the dinner table. And drank two bottles of Water while I was there. BTW, they still don't know - I also have a cold so they figured I was not in the mood to eat nor drink and completely understood. It was great! ReadytoMaintain
  11. Hi everyone! After months of waiting, the big day is exactly a week from today! If your surgery date is near the 4th or on the 4th of January, please shoot me an email! I need the support from all of you, and it would be nice to have a sleeve buddy! Day 1 of pre-op diet! Scary but exciting! Good luck to all of you!
  12. Pretty sure I have. I went off over the holidays and gained about 10 pounds. I had stopped logging, so went back to eating as I had and started logging and weighing again. I was eating the same things I had before in (I think) same amounts. Lost the weight gain. Then have only maintained since then. I didn't realize how long this had been going on because I had a bad thyroid (cancer) for a long time before my surgery and had experienced long, long stalls because of that. I guess I was used to it, so it didn't register this shouldn't still happen. Then, like I said, I screwed up over the Holidays. But, yes, basically since about July I have been at the same weight (other than the 10-pound gain and subsequent loss). It's possible my portions were larger before the holidays I guess, but I really don't think so. I get all my protein from real food and don't do shakes or bars because I'm cheap. I eat veggies and the occasional fruit (no more than 1 oz.) with Greek yogurt for breakfast. I don't eat bread or rice or potatoes or sugary stuff. Two mistakes I pinpointed was drinking Fairlife milk with my decaf in an effort to get in more protein (I forgot about the calories involved) and eating too much cheese when we didn't have other protein in the house. I have cut out cheese because that's so high in calories and I don't think it was helping me. Also stopped the milk. Right now I'm trying to decide between upping calories, staying this low or trying to reset my sleeve. So, it's possible I was consuming more calories than I thought even though I wasn't "eating" a lot. But in my tracking of food I have noted I just can't seem to lose if I go over the 800 mark.

    Food Intake Has Increased!

I noticed a slight increase too, and I'll be seven weeks out next Monday. The funny thing is Today I thought "oh my gosh I pigged out!" - because I was so full - and then I looked at my friends plate and that put things into perspective for me. I'm actually only eating a few bites more than I was lol. It also depends on what I'm eating. I can eat a bit more of soft beans or soup Than say chicken, fish or beef.
  14. I went to costco thinking the premier shakes were still $19.99 for 18 and they were not I was able to get whey Protein shakes for $9.99 for 18 140 calories, 3.5 fat, 8 carbs, 2 sugar and 20 protein. Premier has 160 calories, 3 fat, 4 carbs, 1 sugar and 30 protein. I will try these since they were just $9.99 regular price $20.99 and the Premier are $24.99 Wanted to Share a good deal
  15. I'm assuming my new tummy is pretty swollen because I'm definitely not getting in the ounces or calories I thought I would be. I was actually pretty nervous about following the post-op liquids only diet but it's been much better than I thought. I am trying to stay hydrated and not be overly concerned with Protein right now. My liquid diet so far is as follows: Breakfast - 3 oz. of warm tea mixed with 1 spoonful of unjury unflavored Protein powder Snack - 2-3 oz. of Water or water mixed w/ crystal light lunch - 2-3 oz. of warm low sodium chicken broth mixed with 1 spoonful of Unjury Snack - about 1/2 a container of Jell-O, 2-3 oz water dinner - 3 oz. of warm tea (or broth) mixed with 1 spoonful of Unjury unflavored protein powder Water whenever I think of it. Sip, sip, sip! Gas pains are getting better as I've been walking. I haven't walked outside yet because we are having nasty Santa Ana winds today I am following this liquid diet for another 9 days so hopefully it'll be this easy next week! genepha lapband replaced, plication performed 2-7-11 Starting weight 281, I gained 2 lbs. in the hospital so my SW was 283 , Today I weigh 274
  16. Yes, it is certainly is a good feeling to see that scale drop! But just remember, it isn't real. You have not had anything to eat in weeks. Eventually you will return to normal, and begin to eat normal food again. So don't get bummed out when that begins. You will then begin the next phase of being banded, and then you will see the real-permanent weight loss begin.
  17. This is true, as is Water weight gain, that can happen too, but it will come off. That's why once you start the mushie stage, you will begin to see what is really coming off. You will count calories, and slowly see it come off. Go to myfitnesspal.com and sign up. It's free, and allot of us are there keeping track of calories, Protein, exercise, and more. It can even calculate what you could lose it a number of weeks. You can view other peoples Diary, and see how, and what they are eating. Also it's all kept in memory. That's why I say a loss is a loss. Sometimes it will keep going, or plateau, or gain some back. So Celebrate ! Your trying to do this, and your getting there one way or the other. I am Losingintime on MFP site.
  18. Today marks the one week mark since I started having port pain. I went into the Dr last week (Mon) and he said that I probably pulled the muscle it is stitched in to. Well it still hurts to bend over or be too active and it is burning, stabbing pain. I'm going to go back in tomorrow morning. What do they do if you do "pop a stitch"? Does this mean I will have to have surgery to fix it?

    Released from Clear Liquid prison

Hi Sheryl, Congratulations on your release!! Honestly, I can't imagine being on Clear Liquids for two weeks. Full liquids, maybe. Clear? Nuh-uh. Anyway, I think all recent bandsters have the same experience. I know I did. When you start with the soups and so forth and you're surprised at how much you can take in. That's because it just slips right past the band down into your lower stomach, and there's virtually no difference in the amount you can drink now vs. the amount you could drink before. You won't do any damage if you're sticking to liquids. Since it's not solid food, your esophagus and stomach don't have to do any work to get it where it's going. So there won't be lots of movement that can interfere with the healing; that's the point of liquids. No matter when you start mushy foods, go slowly. You'll be several weeks out by then so you may not have any problems at all, but it pays to be cautious. You may not have any swelling or restriction at all but don't assume that until you've taken a small bite of something and swallowed. You don't want to find out the hard way!
  21. Yup...I made it through the Clear liquid weeks. I am now to be on full liquids for a week...Thank God I can have a latte again!! I do have a question...I am pretty sure that I have NO restriction, and I am afraid that I still eat too much, and/or too quickly. Are we supposed to take 30 minutes to eat 2 Tbsp of Malt-o-meal?? I can go through it pretty quickly, the same goes for cream Soups, yogurt, pudding... What type of potential damage am I doing by eating too fast? Also, I am still unfamiliar with what it feels like to be full. Still, I am down 13 pounds in two weeks, even during the healing stage!! Sheryl Dr. Wetherille 244/231/140
  22. IM attending the learning session next week.... What happens there? What will be next?
  23. Depending on your insurance requirements and the requirements of the surgeon, you will complete pre-op testing (usually a psychologist visit, physical therapist, nutrititional evaluation, metabolic testing, complete blood tests, sleep study, etc). Some insurance companies require a 3-6 month diet. Some require a list of all diets you've ever tried with corresponding time frames and weight lost. It really can vary.
