    November Surgery Buddies!!!

Just a quick update. Been hitting the pavement and getting a lot of steps in this month. Averaging 8000 steps per day for the month of may. Still trying to drink a ton as well. I followed up last week's minus 4 with another minus 5 this week! Very excited that I found a formula that broke 3 weeks of minus 1 losses. I didn't want to put this out there at first because I felt it was too much of a brag... but I decided that some people might benefit and be motivated to change things up if they need to try to break their stall! Good luck everyone!
  2. Good topic. For me it's a combination of the restriction and the decreased hunger. I am still in the honeymoon period, just about 6 months after my sleeve. I have no idea how things will go for me long term but at the minute I am absolutely determined to use the tool I went to such lengths to get, and I am getting constant payback because I am losing weight. It's the speed of the loss too - I'm still consistently losing 2+ pounds a week so that's huge motivation to keep doing what I am doing. I do worry a lot about maintaining weight loss because I have never done that before. I think my chances are better this time though.

    Compression socks

I had the intermittent inflatable leg things the whole time I was in hospital post op (they even put them back on after I got up to walk). That was just over 24 hours. Compression stockings to thigh level PLUS injected blood thinners both for 3 weeks after my surgery. My surgeon was absolutely adamant that that was whether I was walking for miles or sitting about all day.

  5. Wow we are same day surgery buddies! My surgery is also June 13th. Tbh I am a massive control freak so I am doing everything I can to control all aspects of the surgery. I am making a lot of list and watching "things I wish I knew before i had vsg surgery" videos. My daughter's birthday is the day after and I scheduling deliveries thru out the day for her as I don't know exactly when I will be home (Dr's ofc promised if at all possible I would be going home on the 14th). She is getting a small delivery for each year...considering she is a teen ..ouch lol. I am also setting up my FMLA/short term disability case for my job. I hope I don't need it but I want it in place just in case. I am planning to be out 1-3 weeks an now I know that all that time will be paid so I am not as freaked out about taking 3wks off if I need it. My friends want to help me but I have a hard time asking for help/things. So my amazing teen gave me the great idea of doing an Amazon wish list..so I have been setting that up (I still feel like I am begging for stuff). I am reading up on protein shakes and medications. Still haven't found the answer to will I gain weight when I have to go off the Phentermine/Topiramate combo, my weight loss Dr has me on, for the 2 weeks prior to surgery? But I keep looking. I really can't imagine life after surgery so I pretty much am trying to do everything I can think to do to make whatever happens after i wake up from surgery as smooth as possible. Sorry so long winded

    June 2022 surgery buddies

Hi to you and the other June buddies! I will find out my surgery date on Monday when I meet with my surgeon…I’m hoping for a date between June 8 and June 13. My pre-procedure testing was extensive and has been finished for about 3 weeks. Cigna approved me this week. I’m having gastric bypass and hiatal hernia repair. I’m 5’2”, and right now I’m 213lbs. I started the liquid pre-op diet in earnest last Tuesday (the surgery coordinator said that of their patients like to start it early 🤷🏻‍♀️). I’m glad I started early because I have switched it up twice now and it has made it easy. When I meet with the surgeon on Monday, I’ll find out the ‘protocol’ pre-surgery diet, and go from there. Good luck to everyone AND May surgeries, please keep posting! Your stories are wonderfully encouraging and informative.
  7. I guess this is what worries me... 👉 You're 14 months out and eating 3-4 ounces of meat or fish.... it sounds good and right on track 👉 I'm 6 weeks out sometimes eating 5-6 ounces of meat or fish... it sounds like my stomach is too large/I'm too greedy/I've stretched my sleeve? I feel like it's got to be at least one of these. 😕 Thanks again for your reply!
  8. Thank you so much for all the great advice! I live alone so I am worried about trying to do much. I'm trying to find someone to stay for the first couple days, and my plan is to have at least a week worth of meals cooked and in the fridge. I'll also have someone come in to walk the dog for the first week or two (fortunately I have a backyard so it's just for exercise). I will move a small step stool into the kitchen and invest in a shower stool ( and probably use dry shampoo for the first couple of days at least). And yes, I'll share pictures when I get closer

    Pregnant

Okay so I had surgery in august 2021 and just had my iud taken out last month due to weird and irregular bleeding. My ob said if I was to fall pregnant it would be 6-9 months from now due to hormones balancing out. My period is a week late and took a pregnancy test and it’s positive .. the line is kinda faint so idk for sure but my weight also seems to have stabilized ?? I haven’t lost any weight since February im fluctuating between 180-183 weekly but that’s it. I’ve seen horror stories where people have been pregnant and their surgeon was rude about it because they weren’t a year out yet. I’m kinda afraid to tell them.. help
  10. For fish, chicken or steak i have about 3-4 ounces and a small amount of veggies. But things like cauliflower pizza or tacos I have one slice or one taco. I can also eat almost a small burger or sandwich with thin low carb bread but nothing else with it. Salad I can eat about a half salad from most restaurants. I am trying to think of what else. I don’t eat much variety. But I am 14 months out. Your team Should have given you an amount that you should be eating at this stage. I wish I still had my paperwork but I threw it out.
  11. Hello, I am 6 weeks post op and have no idea what to eat. I was so nauseous for the last 2 1/2 weeks and now I'm starting from scratch. I am scared to eat anything bc I throw up so easily. I am having a very hard time with fluid intake also. Nothing tastes good, even the flavored water I drank with no problems before surgery. Any advice is appreciated!!
  12. I'm posting this here for traffic in the hope that some of you can advise and/or reassure me. I had my VSG on the 4th April (around 6 weeks ago) I am very worried that I am eating too easily so early out. Especially as I keep reading posts about people who can barely eat a postage-stamp sized piece of ham. An example day this week was: Breakfast - 1 x protein yoghurt pot (100 calories) Snack - 2 hard-boiled eggs (120 calories) Lunch - 100g / 4oz of pork sausages and vegetables (250 calories) Snack - 50g / 1oz of chicken pieces (150 calories) Dinner - 130g / 4.5oz of salmon fillet and creamed spinach (200 calories) TOTAL 820 calories I didn't feel any real restriction; I could easily have carried on, but I made myself stop. I'm pleased with the protein, but is 820 calories too much at this stage? Could I stretch my sleeve with this? Or could my sleeve be too "baggy"? For reference, in just under 6 weeks, I've lost 26lb. I wondered if my height could affect my stomach capacity? I am a 6ft female with an Amazonian frame, so maybe my tummy is bigger or longer than average to begin with? Thank you for any replies!!!

Rant: Pre-op Circus 🤡 of Hoops

dang lol. So where i got my surgery you h ave to get a covid test 4 days prior at your pre anesthesia appointment. But because i had covid about a month and a half prior i was not required to since you get test positive for up to 3 months after. When i got the hospital for my surgery, IV put in, Medications given a nurse comes in and ask "Did you get your covid test" and i was like no. She was like we cant do the surgery. I was like BULLSHIZZZZ... and showed her my positive test from February and then she chilled and left lmao.

    4 Days Post Op

I had this issue for the first 3 or 4 days after surgery. I found it was because I was drinking cold fluids and my stomach just couldn't handle it. I switched to warm broth and room temp fluids and that fixed it. But I also had to watch how much I drank. I had to take very small sips the first 4 or 5 days and just do them more often until my stomach started to calm down. Now, at 11 days post op, I can literally drink warm or cold fluids and I can drink larger amounts more often with no issues. Some stomachs are just very sensitive after surgery (like mine) and it takes a bit longer to calm down, but it'll happen.

    Exactly 1 week post-op

I’m so sorry you’ve experienced this too! It’s truly awful! Today is day 3 and I’m sad to say no relief in sight. I cannot even walk without starting to sweat and borderline cry. And I have a high pain tolerance - several of my doctors have even referred to me as stoic during a few minor in-office procedures. In any event, I’m just trying to march in place to get some movement in. It sounds as though you’re “on the other side” of this nightmare and I’m genuinely happy for you. xx

    4 Days Post Op

I had surgery on May 2nd. Anytime I drank or moved, my stomach was roiling with acid and gas. I called it my witch's cauldron. I was concerned as I saw so many that didn't seem to have this issue after surgery. Once I got to week 2 with full liquids (yogurt, protein shakes, etc.) and I could consume more items of substance, this improved greatly and is now not an issue. Hopefully yours will improve too.
  18. So had an arm lift, breast lift and tummy tuck in one shot. Specifically speaking to the arm and breast lift recovery, some tips based on MY experience: 1) it gets ITCHY. I found that wearing the compression stuff (tighter the better) helped to minimize (or eliminate) the itch. 2) when cleared for showers, bring a little stool to sit on to wash your hair. I found it painful (and exhausting!) to try to get my arms up/lower my head to lather up. I actually had Mr. come in the shower with me the first couple times cuz the effort of doing it myself made me feel woozy. 3) speaking of stools, i had one in the kitchen to reach stuff in the cupboards. Reaching hurt! 4) Don’t be a hero. If it hurts, take your pain meds. And keep in mind pain meds constipate you, so ensure you are taking whatever you need to keep regular. I was constipated for a mind-numbing 13 days. *shudder*. I had not-so-fondly referred to these dark days as “Poop Watch 2019”. And when i finally went, it was not the greatest experience *double shudder* 5) Listen to your doc regarding going back to normal activities. I didn’t, and i busted open many a stitches and basically extended my healing time by a couple of MONTHS. 6) speaking of busting open stitches, the areas that kept opening up (all my own fault) where (a) the T-junction where the incisions met up of the underboob and the the vertical line going down from the nipple. (b) the armpit and (c) the side boob incision on the flanks. I suspect because these areas got the most movement and rubbing (and again because i was doing too much too soon) 7) silicone tape is your friend. Not only does it help to heal scars, but it also helps to keep the itch at bay. With all all that said, i would do it all again in a heartbeat (making better choices about moving of course) cuz i am thoroughly pleased with the results. Unexpectedly, my breast lift results became my fave of the 3 i got (and it was initially not high priority on my list). The ability to go bra-less and still remain perky AND comfortable was a need i never knew i had until afterwards lolozzz. Good luck! Cant wait to see ur results (if u are willing to share) ❤️

My husband doesn't want me to have surgery

I had my surgery on April 5th. Prior to that point my husband said all the same things. You have been loosing weight u don't need the surgery. You are learning on your own to eat small portions. Your walking, Etc. The list goes on. While he no longer says those things when I walk into the living room he gets up and leaves and retreats to the bedroom. If I go to the bedroom he got to the living room. He barely sleeps in our bed at the same time. [emoji24]So here u go he is 66 and I am 64 I raised 7 children of which he helped raise 3 and now their grown and on their own. I'm lonely, somewhat depressed in the situation. I'm darned if I do and darned if I don't. But then I think why did I do all this??? I did it for me, my health, my life. But what more can I say... Sent from my LGL722DL using BariatricPal mobile app

    Compression socks

I wasn’t hooked up to any compression devices at the hospital nor was I prescribed to wear any compression attire after surgery (socks, abdominal, whatever). But I was prescribed to take blood thinners for a week post WLS. Compare this to when I had plastics about a year later, and I was hooked up to a leg squishing device for 2 days (which i LOVED, btw) and NOT prescribed any blood thinners. Its worth noting (maybe?) that I weighed 235 at WLS and 110-ish at plastics time. So I suspect that had something to do with it, but I’m not sure (I didn’t ask). The main goal is to prevent blood clots, I believe, so I suppose however your particular surgeon wants to address it is what you are gonna get.

    May 2022 surgery?

Wow!! Congrats!! Thank you for the insight, I'll be making those requests if I don't get that in 2 weeks!!
  22. I am sick of eating eggs for breakfast. I need other ideas. The thought of eggs is making me nauseous. 😳🥴😢
  23. I mean we all have things that attract us to someone and stuff that does not attract us. Would you expect someone who really isnt attracted to their significant other to fake it? 3 years tho is a long time to not really show any intimate affection. i would be having a discussion probably within the first few months. me personally i know what i am attracted to and what i am not attracted to. and i have been told by a girlfriend before that they are not attracted to me anymore due to my weight gain. but the good thing is they told me. but still the original poster its a bit messed up for being married that long and only now showing interest when you are loosing some weight.
  24. from the two weeks of my pre op diet. I found the powder stuff you have to mix to be horrible. no matter which. The premade ones were best

    May 2022 surgery?

Sleeved yesterday and doing GREAT! My anesthesiologist gave me a nerve block and also put an anti-nausea patch behind my ear that is supposed to last 3 days! So I’ve had zero nausea or vomiting- so far. Pain has been very tolerable after the first 4-5 hrs from surgery. So far I’ve managed to drink water, apple juice and chicken broth without issue. Not much has pain . Feeling very fortunate and looking forward to going home.
