  1. Hello all, I am getting ready to begin the process for getting the sleeve hopefully. I have my first appointment this week with my Medical Doctor and psychologist. I hope I can get approved for real. I haven't been to the doctor in years almost 10 so I am scared with what they may say and if that may have any complications. I'm 480 6'6. I am pretty active. I just started back working out. Been playing basketball 2-3 times a week. Don't have as much energy as the competition lol. Any tips on how I can be successful??

Surgery date has been moved up!

I was handling the waiting okay for the most part. Now feeling anxious about getting all the appts. scheduled, paperwork ready, telling my boss again that the date for everything has changed (again), and finding folks to cover my desk while I'm off. Needless to say, I have to start my 2 week pre-op liquid diet TODAY, which really isn't too much trouble since I drink Breakfast and lunch anyway. Of course, now all I can think about is FOOD!!! It doesn't help that I'm physically hungry at this point. My hubby was excited for me when I called to give him the news about the new date.

    Stall advice

You lost 36 lbs in a month? And you think that is slow? That is 15% of your entire body weight lost in one month. That isn't slow, that isn't even average, that is actually a very big loss. A stall is common around 3 weeks post op. Do a search and you will find literally 100s of threads on the "Three Week Stall". The weight loss has not stopped, it has just stalled so your body can adjust to this new and prolonged calorie deficit. You have probably even noticed that while you haven't lost but a few pounds during this stall that you seem to still be losing inches and size. Your calories/protein/carbs look to be on point for this stage.... keep doing what you have been doing and the loss will resume! Your results are already great and show that this is working for you.

    Starting lap-band process

Hi Lainie, Welcome to this wonderful place. I have learned a lot here. I am not banded yet. I just finished all my testing and will hopefully get a surgery date this week. Good luck Amy
  6. I'm on day three and finding it so painful to burp the gas out. The other end is working slowly but the gas creeps to my back and makes me want to let out a belch.. But nothing happens. Is anyone else dealing with this? I just want to burp lol

    Tomorrow is Sleeve Day!

    One more week for you!
  8. I was told liquid only for the 2 weeks. I haven't really been able to do just liquid This is just day 3 of the 'liquid only' But when I talked with my aunt she said her surgeon only had her do a liquid diet for 3 days. Obviously different surgeons but same procedure.
  9. until your about 3-4 weeks out the nerves in your stomach are not working yet so you will not get the feelings of fullness. this is why it is so important for us to time and measure. you can hurt yourself by not following the rules. This is just a tool and if you are eating and drinking like the surgery never happened then yes you will not lose weight. but most likely it is water weight. just make sure your drinking 64 ounces of fluids and getting as close to 80-90 grams of protein a day you can and remember to walk at least 30 minutes a day
  10. I’m in the same boat. I have a 7 year old son and idk how he will going to school etc. I’m taking a week off work and hoping everything goes well. I’m nervous 😬 My surgery date is also March 12
  11. I just realized I've only been taking half the amount of calcium they want me to take! I ordered some of the bariatric advantage calcium chews and they just arrived. I opened them up and figured I'd give them a try (my insurance nurse thought the chews would be preferable to gummies) and realized I'd have to take SIX to get all the calcium! That means it's a 10 day supply! I paid $38 and change after shipping for three bags. That's more than a dollar a day for calcium alone! I guess I've got to make up for all the food I'm not buying! After discovering that I needed six, I looked at the bottle of the gummies I'd been taking and they were 500 units per serving but a serving is two, not one! OOPS!! I've only been taking three a day. Now I need to look at the B12...

    Burping after Fill

I was looking for the same answer. Kinda. I'm actually PBing anything thicker than water and it's making my stomach even more irritated and swollen. I'm so hungry though! I'm having embarassingly loud belly grumbles. I felt this last fill too and got an unfill after 4 days. I regretted it because in a couple weeks I was too loose. I'm going to try to go super slow and really give it some time.

    Burps

Hi All! I am one week post op today! I feel good! Recovery has been pretty smooth. I have a weird question. Every time I eat or drink anything I burp. Probably a burp after every spoonful. It doesn't hurt, it's not uncomfortable..its just weird. Has anyone experienced the same? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Burps

I am in my 4th week post RNY ... I burp a lot too .. often when my stomach is empty first thing in the morning. Once I have eaten it seems to settle down a bit. Also tea makes it really bad especially if I have it on an empty stomach. I guess it is our system adjusting to the new way of life.
  15. I'm getting in 80 or more g's of protein. I'm currently in the process the last week so starting over with vitamins. My stomach was getting upset when I took my meds. So I stopped all vitamins and just took my required meds I have been on for years. Then I started adding vitamins until I found the two culprits. The gallbladder meds and the B complex do a number on my gut! I am on soft foods and have also had ups and downs, i will never eat tuna or salmon ever again. I switched from soy milk as it gave me freight train farts, i now drink skim fairlife which is high protein, low sugar and no lactose. I walk everyday and lift light hand weights. It's too cold for me to continue walking outside and I need more exercise so i joined Planet Fitness and start tomorrow. So with all that, I guess my next move is nut or stay away from scale.
  16. I know there are (or can be) immediate post-op problems with gas/bloating, but in the long run, does VSG help with bloating/IBS issues? I've had a sensitive stomach for years and even now, being on a raw veggie, protein drink & water diet for the last two weeks, I'm super bloated, gassy, and have pretty bad GI issues. Ugh... Wondering if this surgery is going to finally help resolve some of these things.
  17. This is all new, but I was wondering what is the point of the 2 week pre-op diet? Is it to lose some weight before the surgery? Or to clean out your stomach?
  18. First off sleeved June 15, 2015 Starting weight:265 Surgery weight:240 Today's weight:191 I had just a few problems after surgery with getting sick. Recovery was good and I was on smashed foods when I was released from the hospital. I was eating a spoonful of refried Beans with cheese and sour cream for about a week and half then added other foods as tolerated. I had trouble finding a Protein shake I liked after surgery and have finally found one that I can handled. I take my Vitamins and stool softener at night. I forget my Calcium all the time:( I just had my blood draw and everything came back in the normal range. When I was about 6 weeks out I hit a stall.....I stayed the same weight for about 3 weeks. I got very frustrated and I changed everything up. I added 10 mins to the treadmill(45 mins total), stationary bike for 20 mins and then started some leg exercises as my tummy was still a little sore. I upped my calories a little and would do treadmill and bike everyday, legs every other day. Then I would drink my Protein Shake right after I worked out. I would eat about an hour before I worked out. I changed what I was eating to only protein and did this for about a week. It helped a little. I have hit several stalls since then and tried all these things since and they haven't helped. I go a week or some and not lose then lose a few pounds. I might gain and then lose, I have been hovering at 191.5-189 for three weeks now and I can not seem to break this. I think that if you keep doing what your suppose to do your body will eventually realize and the scales will move again. My best advise is clean out the pantry and fridge. Get rid of any and all temptations and find a Protein Bar and Protein Drink to use after workouts/when your starving and that will help with the cravings your having if you are. Good luck and enjoy the ride. Sometimes the stalls help you realize where you have come from, and let's your mind caught up with your body changes!!
  19. Stalls happen. I had one only a week out from surgery that lasted 4 weeks. I can tell you I was doing everything I was supposed to do. Then after four weeks the scale started to move and I have lost 10 lbs in about 2 weeks. I think sometimes our bodies just need to catch up with itself. Those four weeks I didn't lose any weight but I lost a lot of inches. Hang in there! If you are doing everything you are supposed to the weight will come off! Try staying off the scale for awhile so you don't get overly frustrated. Take care!
  20. I was looking at my chart today. It's been 16 weeks and 20 lbs since I stepped into Onederland. Now at 179 lbs I remember how it did feel. For me it was great. But, remember that there may be more going on that is affecting how you are feeling. Afterall, I'm assuming you are a woman? We do have our yucky moments now don't we??? Give youself a few days for it to sink in. BTW. Don't expect your body to look different to you. I was talking to someone yesterday about that. When I look in the mirror what I see is pretty much the same thing I saw 86 lbs ago. I still have the same rolls, the same "issues" I had but they are just smaller and fit in different clothes. Try to look for the little changes like being able to feel a bone you forgot was there. Does your chair seem more roomy now? Do you use as much of the seatbelt as you used to? What are others saying to you? Surely they are noticing. I think they see more clearly than we do sometimes. Listen to them. At church yesterday I got so many comments on how wonderful I looked. I had seen these same people last week. They didn't gush over me then. What was the difference? I had got a hair cut is all I can think of. It really is the little things. Things that we can't really even see.

    Weird thing...

Ha! Yes! My 4 year old told me last week that she doesnt like my bones! She misses the warm squishy mommy. My butt is the worst tho..its all tailbone now. The knees took a bit to get used too, but now its the waist and hips i feel the most. Shoulders tol..never thought i would see skinny shoulders or clavicles!
  22. I had mysurgury consult yesterday. I was told atkins diet 2 weeks or longer before the vsg. I am curious of other input on what their doctor recommended and possibly why? My doctor said the atkins with no carbs and sugar will reduce the size for the operation. I would think maybe atkins and then maybe two days before the operation switch to liquid so the system is cleaned out of all food. Curious to hear replies. I'm in greenville NCand the doctor is Dr. Nazeri of Sothern Surgical.

    Caffeine?

Hi Fluffy RN, My doc said coffee and tea were fine. I have PCOS and I was banded 7/3/09 by Dr. Ortiz in MX. I stopped caffeine about 4 weeks pre-op because when I have caffeine it drops my blood sugar in a hurry. Then I get into that starvation mode and have to eat QUICKLY. I knew that this would not work with having to lose weight pre-operatively or post-operatively. I actually feel much better being off the caff. I do still have my coffee and tea but their decaf. Hope this helps! Tish

    Caffeine?

Fluffy, I've had teas and coffees since one week post-surgery. My doc says okey doke. No problem. I think that people who do have up/down sugars may have trouble with it. But if it doesn't seem to spike/crash your cravings or blood sugar levels then I would think you are fine. Remember, everything in moderation...so your one cup in the morning seems fine. I am four weeks post op now, having half or one cup of coffee in the morning and lots of iced tea in the afternoon because there hasn't been one day this summer (in Texas) below 100 degrees Farenheit. :-)
