  1. Lol, I love plain greek yogurt - but I have also been known to eat sour cream straight from the carton! Last time I sampled anythign at costco, I bought the $800 blender it was made in! We have only one Costco in Melbourne, its the BEST.

    12/3/09 - my day

5:15 am - Hit the elliptical machine for 45 min 7:50 am - protein shake made with Jillian Michaels Protein powder, 1 cup skim milk, 1 TBSP peanut butter, 1 banana (383 cal) 8:35 - coffee with cream (60 cal) - I need to work on giving up the cream! 11:00 - nonfat yogurt mixed with 1/4 cup of raw oats - (203 cal) 2:00 pm - 10 baby carrots & 1/4 cup of hummus (175 cal) 6:00 pm - 2.5 oz of canned white meat chicken (70 cal) Okay, my neighbor brought me over an ENTIRE PIE tonight - thanking me for taking care of her house while she was out. My husband, who doesn't think at times, cut all of us a piece, so I ate a VERY small piece. 1/2 of a piece. BUT............ when I went to fitday.com, it was still about 350 calories! Glad I only ate a small piece. I warned my husband that if it is not hidden, or eaten when I wake up tomorrow, he is dead meat! hahaha. 7:30 pm - 1/2 of a piece of chocolate peanut pie - 350 cal. OUCH TOTAL CALORIES - 1250 cal - about that. Its my best estimate - the pie thru me off a bit because it was homemade. So I had somewhere between 1250 to 1350. Even thouigh I had a little sugar fix, I still don't feel too bad. My calories are not out of control, I exercised today, so I don't think it will ruin me. The beauty of the band is, just becuase I had a piece of pie doesn't mean I "give up". I just brush it off and move on. Tomorrow morning, back to the gym!
  3. For me I like the fusion unflavored meal replacement. I mix it with my yogurt, crystal light, etc.
  4. Am I the only one that is driven nuts by the contraindications in what we are suppose to do. How are sugar free drinks any different from sugar free jello, pudding, popsicles, yogurt ect. Artifical sweetners are artificial sweetners, how does it matter in which form they come in. I do not drink them all day long and I try and keep my water up. I drink a galon of liquids a day. I have one packet a day and it is only for 20 0z but I fill my nalgreen bottle all the way. Just my tirade for the day.

    New to LapBandTalk

Hi, I am new to this forum....I was banded two years ago (July 2007) and have lost 40 lbs. with 25 more to go....My concern is that I am not eating healthy at all....during the day I am able to eat very little- maybe a small piece of cheese or a few crakers or quarter cup of yogurt, maybe, some times I throw that up out of discomfort- NO fruits or veges....then by evening, about 8 it is like my port-hole in my stoach opens and I can eat- not always but half the time anyway. So finally being able to eat anything I do....sometimes in a good quanitiy. Seems the later in the evening, the more I can eat- does this happen with anyone? But most of the other time when I cannot eat I grab something sugary which goes down VERY easily! I feel stuck...help.

I do not have this issue and haven't heard this one before. You've spoken to your doctor about this right? What did he/she say about it? Could you need a small unfill? Food choices: Try to keep smart foods handy for that "grab and go" that you need. (deli roll; meat w/cheese together, almonds, nuts, jello, yogurt, cheese...) To get the fruits and veggies maybe have smoothies. Maybe do muchie foods during the day. (rice & chicken, stews w/veggies...) When you do open up and can eat, just make good choices. Are you keeping a food dairy? (I use myfitnesspal.com and they've made it so easy) What is your calorie intake? (I try 1200 a day, some times I make it and sometimes I don't) How often do you eat during the day? (I eat 4-6 times a day) Are you getting enough liquid down too? (I've stopped sodas and have picked up those flavor packets to use in each bottle, easy to change flavors and not feel stuck) I've lost 40#'s, it's been a slow 3 years but I've done it. I have 40 more to go to get to my goal. But my mini goals of 10#'s give me joy and momentum to go to the next 10. If you haven't asked your doctor yet, give him/her a call on Monday. Keep us updated on how things go.

    Surgery Tomorrow and food questions

Thank you all. I did not order enough of the unflavored. I will have to order some more. I ordered mostly vanilla and chocolate. I am sure that the unjury will be great it was the Isopure that was so bad. But it has 40 grams of Protein in it so that is what I will need for almost the whole day. I have been on Clear liquids for 5 days pre op. I am to the point now that I am not even hungery. I have two weeks of full liquids then 4 weeks of mushy. But as long as I can eat Soup, perfect time of the year for this, I will be ok. I have everything for my Protein drinks, sugar free Jello and pudding, yogurt and my list of Vitamins and drugs advised on here for gas pains. OH I CANNOT wait!!!

    October 2nd

I'm tomorrow Oct 1st, I started my Pre-Op diet on Sept 17th which consisted of 1/2C oatmeal and light yogurt for breakfast, lean shake and pudding cup or applesauce for lunch and dinner. To cut hunger I can eat SF Jello, Popsicles, and chicken broth. It is now 4pm and I can only have clear liquids and nothing after midnight tonight. Surprisingly I am not hungry.

    4 days out need help

Check to see if they gave you a list--I was given detailed paperwork on post-op diet phases. Probably, however, you can have yogurt and cream soups and sugar-free pudding. And oh, so many protein shakes . . .

What did your surgeon recommend? The post-op guidelines differ from doctor-to-doctor. I was on two weeks liquid followed by two weeks mushies and was instructed to eat/drink when I felt hungry. I was told around 800 calories per day. I had no appetite for the first week so I probably did not meet 800 calories, I was very hungry going into the second week but then again, I was not yet allowed as your are, things like grits, yogurt or cream soups at that point. So it is best to go by your surgeons instructions.

    Post-vacation: Not the usual result!

I took a mini-vacation with my hubby this past weekend over the Memorial Day holiday. We spent a total of 5 days traveling and having fun... My hubby is a private pilot, and belongs to the Black Pilots Association. He flies small planes - Piper Cherokees and such - and the organization has an annual get-together called Skyhook in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. We went for the first time last year and had a ball, so off we went again this year... We flew out on Thursday - now normally flying is not a big deal for me, but for some unknown reason, during the second leg of our flight from CT to Arkansas, I had a problem with something I'd eaten. I spent the flight sliming and had a couple of minor PB's. People thought I was airsick - not entirely untrue - but since this had NEVER happened before when I flew, I was at a total loss. After we got to Arkansas, I was fine - go figure... Spent the next couple of days flying with hubby - Arkansas, a short hop to Mississippi to visit distant relatives of his, and then back to Arkansas. No problems the rest of the time. I felt a bit guilty because with our hectic vacation schedule, I wasn't getting my walks in, and I was a bit worried about how my body would react. Normally when I go on vacation the combination of lack of exercise and unfamiliar food makes for a 5 pound or so gain of weight. I ate a few fruit-and-yogurt parfaits from McDonald's and tried to concentrate on getting my water in and eating enough protein. Salads were relatively easy to get - even though I can't finish them, they still make for good protein and veggie content. There was a barbeque on Saturday night, which ordinarily would have meant waaaay too much food and dessert, but because I'm banded, I again focused on protein and veggies, plus a small amount of ice cream for dessert with fruit for a topping. I was amazed to be so satisfied with so little food compared to what I normally would have eaten - in fact, what I ate the previous year! The rest of the weekend went without a hitch - and even the ride home via commercial flight was uneventful. I don't know what caused my initial upset, but I'm certainly glad it didn't repeat itself! Flying is much more comfortable for me now that I'm down 45 pounds - I fit more comfortably in my seat, and even though my hubby has wide shoulders, he and I can sit side-by-side without feeling squished because I now take up LESS ROOM! We returned late on Monday night, and when I got up the next morning, I weighed myself - thinking the worst, but hoping I had at least stayed the same. Hooray! I actually LOST a pound! That was definately NOT what I expected...and I can only attribute it to my band. Never before (well, at least since I became an adult) have I gone on vacation and come back LIGHTER than when I left. It's all due to the great restriction I now have with my band - I have definately hit my sweet spot, and I'm on track to make my goal of being at 200 lbs by July 4th. I've just got to keep up the good work - consistency for me is the key - and with regular workouts and eating right, I'm certain I'll reach my goal and be able to wear the beautiful new swimsuit I bought for my July trip to Florida. Side note - I recently had to buy new clothes because I've lost enough so that my existing garments started to look funny on me, and I'm now wearing a size 18! I'm out of the 20's for good and I'm NEVER going back - at least, not as long as I have my band!
  14. Pre band breakfast bowl of cereal - muesli, oatmeal or something like Just Right or 2 pieces of toast, butter and spread or sometimes eggs on toast - 2 eggs, 2 pieces toast mid morning - binge time - nearly always a cappucino and a big cake/muffin or biscuits - six or seven perhapse lunch: usually didnt eat - continued to snack on biscuits and bits and pieces all day - and I put away a fair bit dinner: healthy meal but big - meat and 3 veg, barbecue and salad, Pasta or whatever, I cooked well, fresh and from scratch, just ate too much, a glass of wine never ate dessert - my main problem was carby sugary foods during the day and the lack of a proper meal. Post banding Breakfast nothing usually (blush) till I get to work, then maybe a yogurt, sometimes, but often yeah, nothing mid morning: piece of fruit and a cuppa lunch: tuna on crackers, dinner leftovers, a salad and small tin of tuna or some type of soup dinner: same as before, just 1/3 as much, usually a small glass of wine too. I've never been an evening eater unless someone happens to put chocolate right in front of me. However, i'm still prone to falling into the eat no meals just crap all day trap.

    Cereal?

I add Special K Protein to my Greek yogurt in the morning. If I feel I need an extra boost of protein, I add a scoop of unflavored Protein powder. Sent from my iPhone using LapBandTalk

    Protein ideas?

Remember turkey too! I get thick-sliced rotisserie turkey breast from the deli, wrap it around a piece of swiss and dip it in balsamic vinegar for a quick snack. I also make my own "protein shots" with a sugarfree pudding cup and add a scoop of chocolate protein powder. You can do this with yogurt too. Also, edamame (soybeans) are high in protein, as are beans like a previous poster stated. Another favorite snack is apple slices dipped in peanut butter...mmmm....

Its been 4 weeks since my lapband surgery!

Have you tried Isopure? It is a drink found at CVS or GNC and it tastes good. Not a shake. I get the Grape Frost a little sweet but good. It has 15g protein in 8 0z fluid. Or have you tried any of the protein powders that you add to your yogurts, etc.? They are good too. I was banded on Feb 8th and I too am having a hard time getting the right amount of protein and fluid in to my body. I wish you the best of luck. I dont know what to say about the fill as I have not had one yet either! Let me know. Good luck.

    Menus

I did measure everything during my weight loss phase. In maintenance mode, I'm less strict about it, but I strongly recommend it because I'm terrible at "eyeballing" a portion. For example, I cut a piece of chicken that I think is 2 ounces, but when I weight it, it's 4 ounces, therefore twice the calories. How much you should eat per sitting depends on your surgeon's guidelines. Some surgeons say eat no more than 1/2 cup, others say 1 cup per meal. How much I can eat of a given food depends on its texture. So I could eat 1-1/2 cups of yogurt, but only 1/2 cup of chicken. Here's an example of portion sizes from the weight loss food plan my dietitian gave me way back when. Breakfast: 1 slice whole grain toast, 1 egg scrambled Snack: 1/2 cup fruit Lunch: 1/4 cup veg, 1/4 cup starch, 1/4 cup protein Snack: 1/2 cup fruit Dinner: same portions as lunch Snack: 1 cup protein shake or 1/2 cup SF pudding

    Menus

There's a thread pinned to the top of this forum entitled, Share Ideas, What Did You Eat Today? You can get some daily menu ideas from the posts on that thread. I'll start a separate thread here on the Food & Nutrition forum entitled, A Week's Worth of Dinner Menus, and will try to post a new thread with new menus once a week. For general purposes, my typical daily menu is: B: Click vanilla latte protein shake S: skinny latte S: protein bar, or Greek yogurt w/ fruit L: leftovers from the previous night's dinner S: trail mix D: a protein, a non-starchy veg, and a starch S: fruit, or SF pudding

    Dairy

I am 8 years post op and I cannot tolerate any sort of ice cream.....even the no sugar added kind. Not real good with milk either. I have tried Lactaid and the Lactaid ice cream and it's a no go for me. I can eat yogurt, cottage cheese and any type of cheese with no issues. I think it is an individual thing and you have to find out what does and doesn't work for you.

    After mushy stage

Hi Leslie, I am on Weight Watchers. I follow the core program. It is comprised of meats, fish, chicken, all the protein you want. Vegies and fruits . The only carbs you have besides the fruits are brown rice and whole grain pastas, no bread. You get 35 points a week to eat whatever you want outside of the core plan. ie. alcohol, bread, mayo, etc. My mom's friend has lost 100 lbs on the core program. You eat unlimited until you are full. I have such a great fill now that I only at a 1 point weight watcher yogurt yesterday, 3 plums, 1 hard boiled egg, 1/2 chicken breast and zucchini for dinner. I love going to the meetings. I have 23 lbs to lose with a 15 lb stretch goal. Julie from CA.

    The pain

I'm glad I'm not alone. I feel the walking is no use, my stomach tightens up when I walk. So far I am trying various liquids and have tried yogurt n cottage cheese and all was well. For the first two days both #1 and #2 was happening but now #2 hasn't happened for a few days. Trying to get any gas out is a pain as well. I also found that warm drinks help loosen things up. Buy definitely doesn't help with the dry mouth!

    Hello

My port spot hurts really bad also. I have not felt any pain on the other incisions. The nurse told me that it was normal and it would be that way for a couple of days. I was just reading some info that they sent home with me and one paragraph in there said that during the surgery, they just insert the band and not really fill it. Has anyone heard of this? I would have assumed that the doc would have put some saline in it. I have read that some of you can "feel" when the adjustment has been made, but I don't really have that feeling. So maybe the info was correct. I have been on "liquids" since the banding, but the liquids include drinkable yogurt, applesause, pudding, popsicles and the like. I have not had a problem yet of hunger.

    Greek Yogurt

I really want you start eating this but I haven't found the right brand for me. I did freeze plain in ice cube trays to add to protein shake but I can't eat it just yet. Any recommendations
