Shantelle, the weight loss will help with the aggravating acute pain. Pain will always be apart of our lives, but I think manageable is what us degens look for. Just to be able to participate in normal functions is great. I'm happy to say that I have managed to get myself back into horse back riding. Something that I wouldn't have dared to do just this past January. These are those NSV (non scale victories) they talk about and this one just makes me feel as free as being at a healthy weight

    Lower BMI'ers--2008!!!

AudricIan how are you doing? You've been quiet on this thread...is everything okay? Have you been losing or have you hit a standstill? Hey everyone let me know your latest NSV's, I need some encouragement as i'm losing so slow!! I did have a NSV moment yesterday though, I put on a pair of jeans that I wear regularly only to realize that HEY they were too big for me to continue to wear, so I pulled another (smaller size) out of my closet-still a little on the tight side, but i'm moving down the size charts ever so slowly!!!!

    Person of Size

Most of these so-called NSVs people report in the NSV thread bring up feelings of disgust in myself. Did you call him out on what he said about the "fat farm"?
  4. I swore off shopping during my pre-op. I was losing weight pretty quickly (down almost 50 lbs in 3 months) and knew it would just be a waste of money to buy any new clothes. So when the Lilly Pulitzer for Target collection launched, I didn't even wanna look at it because I knew I would shop. Well...that turned out not to even be an issue because before I even woke up that morning, the Target website had crashed and most stores looked like a tornado had come through and picked up all of the Lilly items. So I moved on with my life LOL I went to Target today for cleaning supplies, face wash, and a trash can. That was all. Of course, I had a Cartwheel for 15% off one of their brands of women's apparel, so I thought whats the harm in taking a look? Maybe I'll find a nice maxi dress to transition around in. I walk by the women's section and see a very familiar print of white and green. Could it be? No...there's no way...is that...that's a piece of Lilly Pulitzer for Target. I'd recognize that cheery print anywhere. It's a jumpsuit I had coveted when sneak peeks of the line started showing up online. I picked it up and found no flaws or marks or tears in it...how could this possibly be here?! I check the tag and it's a standard XL. Well, I usually need an XXL at Target, and that's not always a good fit. I usually have to go to their plus section and I almost never find anything. This item is not stretchy. And it has a zipper. At this moment, I am terrified. Me and zippers don't have a pleasant history. I take it to the fitting room, hang it up and examine it again. If it doesn't fit AND has a tear, then i'll feel better because I don't want a torn item anyway. There's not a single mark or tear. Suck it up Ashlee. Try it on. I put one leg in...I put the other leg in...I pull it up and it actually passes my hips. I take a deep breath (actually I sucked it in is what I did LOL) and pull it up the rest of the way. So far so good. But does it zip?? I reach behind me the best I can and pull up that tiny white zipper. And it stops. OMG. I KNEW IT. IT DOESN'T FIT. I turn around to see where i've stopped and lo and behold...i've zipped it all the way up. This thing fits. And not only does it fit, it fits damn good! It's a wee bit snug at my chest, which tells me I've got a little room to make so I can wear this thing out properly. Even though I've sworn off shopping, I absolutely cannot walk away without this item. According to the girl working the fitting room, a woman had returned the item last night and since they no longer have any of the collection in stock, there's no where to properly hang it. So it was mixed in with "similar" colored items. I wasn't even gonna go to this particular Target today, but I didn't feel like going to my usual Target closer to home. So if I had to analyze it, I'd say that the good lord above compelled that woman to return that jumpsuit and then led me to that store on purpose so that I could find it and realize that I have shrunk my way down to standard sizes! In the words of Ice Cube...today was a good day. PS if you read that whole story, you're my hero. Sometimes I feel like storytelling.

A Target score and a NSV...

It looks perfect on you! What a very happy NSV, great work!
  6. My band is great and has changed my life ....... I am happy EVERY day, not just once in a while. My back and hips dont hurt anymore. I have my sex drive back (THANK YOU GOD!!). and one huge NSV.....My very first love has been overheard talking lately about how he should have married me, and that I was the "best he ever had" (wonder what that means???, I'll take it as me being the best person he was ever in a relationship with) I cant even begin to describe how GOOD it feels to know that he has finally admitted that he SCREWED UP. All good things happen for a reason though, I wouldn't have met my wonderful husband and had my 4 beautiful babies. This band has made the real "ME" come back to life!!!

    May 24 Surgery Day

Well... I had dumping last night... I had some chicken and half an egg... Throwing up everywhere.... Now I am scared to eat anything! NSV- I am able to weigh myself on the scale at home rather than a heavy duty doctors scale! The good balances out the bad I guess...
  9. Last update to the list's numbers: 2/20/06 Woohooo, it's been a year! (Or close to it, lol.) I figure it's about time for updates. Here's the last list I had (I added a couple of folks from the other thread that posted after I disappeared). I'd love to hear from ya'll -- anything you'd like to tell us. Some ideas: Weight loss so far Inches lost so far Are you at goal? How much further? Favorite NSVs Would you do it again? High point / low point Before & after pics (I know there's another thread for this, but we're special. ) Ok, I guess I'll play secretary. Post your day of surgery, surgeon's name & location (if you want), and any weight loss so far & I'll add you to the list. I've seen it done for other months, can't let 'em show us up! :paranoid Some of January's & March's bandsters are joining us as well -- the more the merrier! Feel free to add your stats! Our surgeries are close enough that we're dealing with the same stuff. As you have more weight lost, post it & I'll update. Inches too, if you'd like. And when you have fills, if you want to share that, please feel free. If at all possible, put the size of your band too (it helps for comparison). That way we can track how others on the January / February / March timeline are doing. Thanks guys! DISCLAIMER 3/8/06: We're adding in pre-op losses separately. If I didn't have yours, I put (? pre-op). If I got your numbers from your signature, I used your highest recorded weight. So if I'm not correct & it matters to you, please post with the correct numbers. Edit 4/21: I updated weights based on signatures where I could. Some still haven't checked in, so they show little to no weight loss. Can't help it! Edit 6/2: Updating everyone's numbers from recent posts and/or signatures. "No update" signifies that I couldn't find new numbers for someone. I'm not taking them off the list, but it does slant the numbers somewhat. NOTE: The red numbers are overall... I didn't subtract out the pre-op number -- though some people did on their own. Yeah, it's confusing... sorry! I should have done pre-op from the get go. 1 kg = 2.205 pounds (Note to myself, for converting Magic's numbers!) Thanks! Even years out, still discovering changes

Congratulations on your awesome NSV!!! may you continue to be so blessed through out your future in all aspects of your Sexier, Healthier life!!! It is much deserved, with all your continued hard work!!! NSV's are great no matter how early in or farther out you are along your journey, we discover new things about ourselves all the time. Some are smaller then others but still just as important! Some we notice right away such as our clothes falling off of us & others take more time to click in our heads but are great suprises when we do finally notice them!!! Every step of this transformation/life journey deserves to be celebrated!!!!

When do you start dropping sizes?

I'm 6 weeks post op and I have lost about 34 lbs. I'm still in my same size clothes. I think I may be down one size but I haven't checked. The way I see it is that, as we get smaller, we should see the sizes come down quicker. I was just telling my best friend how I have lost a little over 30lbs...she is so amazed by this. However, she' seeing this amount in reference to her weight. She is under 200lbs so if she lost over 30lbs it would be a major change in her size. But, for someone like me, who was 264lbs at the time of my surgery, 34lbs is great and quite an accomplishment...but, it is not drastic enough to drop a significant amount in clothes size. It's all relative to how much weight we have to lose. I have no doubt that the weight and inches are coming off. I know I have to be patient before I see a shift in my actual clothing size. I was a size 20 for awhile. I was also able to fit into a size 20 even if I went up a few pounds. Hang in there! The NSV will come for us all!

Oh, Renewed.......I know that makes you feel so good! I don't blame you for cying....I almost cried too, it's soooo sweet. You must be doing an awesome job at getting healthy if your 9 year old son is noticing all your hard work. I feel exactly the same way you do, I can't wait to get to goal and can't even imagine what life is going to be like. That's a great NSV for you, WTG and thanks for sharing!

    Tips for a new runner?

Hi, All those ideas above are great. Use a marker like the poles to run 1, walk 1 until you push it a bit and run 2, walk 1. Keep going like that. I started running with my trainer in June and that is how we started for a while. Then, I would walk up the trail, which was 1.5 miles and run all the way down. Then, it was 2 miles. I was at two miles for a while and yesterday, we were running on the treadmill because it was cold outside. I didn't look at mileage, just kept the option on pace. We were having an "easy run" day because my hips were feeling sore. I didn't keep looking at the distance and ran 3 miles without stopping at all! I kept an easy pace of 4.5 mph and actually, I could have run further! This is a HUGE NSV for me, always a non-runner before! I'm really proud of myself. I realized also that I was limiting myself thinking "I can run 2 miles." I think it really helped me break thru that mental set I had/have! It's addictive! Enjoy!!!
  21. When you get this awesome pic this year, looking all skinny and stuff, be sure to post it as an NSV!
  22. Ok, so I had my first 2 nsv's on the same day! First....I had a doctors apt today and I thought I would try on that pair of pants that I bought a few months ago that I hoped to fit one day. When I grabbed them I thought to myself that there was no way that I would be able to zip them up because the last time I tried I couldnt even get them over my fat thighs. So I pulled them up...all the way. I went to pull them together thinking that no way could I zip them up....and yep you guessed it! Not only could I zip them up, but they easily fit on...and looked good!! woo-hoo! The next was when I went on a hike today with my walking partner. This trail is tuff!!!! It goes straight up hills and is a real workout. The last time I walked it I was huffing and puffing like the big bad wolf. Well, not only did I walk up those nasty hills with ease, but when we got to the straight paths.....I felt like running! Yep I did....me! I ran on the straight aways! It felt great! I havent ran for fun since I was a child, and here I was running, because I wanted to and I had a great big smile on my face. For the first time in forever I felt like a healthy active person. I cant wait to do it again! NSV's for me! I am so loving my sleeve

    my first nsv!

Thank you so much for sharing your NSVs! There have been so many times that I've tried on jeans and haven't been able to pull them up over my thighs -- it would be fantastic to be able to try on those same jeans and zip them up. Very inspirational!

    Post your NSVs

I've got 2 NSVs! First, at my surgeon's support group last Tuesday, I spontaneously crossed my legs! We sit in nice office chairs around a conference table, and I just shifted my weight to the side a bit and, before I knew it, I had crossed my legs. Of course, I had to crow about it to my group, and they cheered for me! It's great to be able to share things like that with people who understand what an accomplishment it is. 2nd, today I went shopping for a dress to wear to my father's retirement ceremony. I picked out some 18s at Dress Barn, not sure if they would be big enough. I tried them on, and they were actually a bit big in places. There were some size 16 dresses left in the dressing room from an earlier shopper, and my sister convinced me to try them on. Long story short, I bought a dress in size 16!! I was in a 26 before I had surgery last August! I was so excited and happy. I think my sister was almost as excited as I was!:scared2:
