  1. Wow. Arm pits are actually that--pits!! They are actually concave, they dip inward, not poofed outward. LOL. When applying deodorant this morning, I said well, look at that. It's amazing what near-40 pounds will show you. Plus I see my clavicles (collar bones), etc. BUT... What I've called "back titties": Mine have gotten a lot smaller; they're more like collapsed sacks now. And they've never been literally on my back. They are more like 'saddle bags' that overhang the side of bras; like a smaller boob behind the main attraction. [Do you know what I'm talking about?] I hate these areas. Anyone with advice about these saddle bags? Did they flatten out for anyone after losing 50-100 pounds? [i'm stalled at just under 40 pounds, but, just thinking ahead.] Thanks.

    DS-ers! Question about food intake!

I am almost 6 months post op. My initial pouch was 4 oz. I was a little bit of a different case because I had a leak complication with my surgery which prevented me from being able to eat or drink at all for the first 5 weeks. At 5 weeks, when the leak was healed, I could eat one hard boiled egg. Today, I could probably eat two hard boiled eggs and two pieces of bacon. When I eat out with my friends/family, I tend to eat 1/2 to 1/3 of the portion I am served. I eat kind of like those teeny tiny skinny ladies who seem to barely eat... and you always wonder if they feel constantly starved...only it is not miserable. You feel just fine/full. At first, be prepared for waiters to ask you if "everything is ok" and you like your food (because you ate so little of it).

    Port Pain?

My Surgery was on Dec 4th and I still have pain... Mine hurts when I walk so I started wearing a girdle about 2-3 weeks ago and it makes a big difference. I can at least get through the day without grabbing my stomach when I walk which for me was weird because only three people know I've had the surgery and so I can't just go walking around holding my stomach.... My Daughter noticed once and I told her I had gas but I don't think I could get away with that story every single time I see her... Good Luck... Not sure when the pain will stop... Mine is still present when I don't wear the girdle...
  5. reality is setting in faster than prepared lol Today we got our itinerary and now our pre appointments have been scheduled, surgery is schedules, and our first post op appointment is already scheduled. Today marks exactly 7 weeks till surgery! I'm getting butterflies, and nerves are nuts! But what I am really struggling with the most is, how do I grocery shop in the mean time. I just cleaned out my pantry, and an entire deep freezer, (sold the deep freezer) won't need it anymore lol. My mom felt like she went on a shopping spree! She ended up with like 12 grocery bags to take home lol. Now it's time to grocery shop and I don't even know what to buy or what to eat. I want to keep everything to a minimum and not buy so much and end up tossing it out. I'm so sick of food already this makes me nuts. I hate the dreaded question of "what's for dinner tonight" I'm only cooking for my wife and I so you think it would be easy right. nope. we're both so sick of food. I need some ideas please. I'm the total opposite. I'm not gonna mourn food, I'm not even gonna miss it, and I could care less to splurge or pig out. so I need some help. Thanks guys
  6. I'm pretty excited! Got a call from my Dr. Letting me know they received my sleep apnea results and of course were positive. They sent a referral to a nut, cardiologist, and psych. I am told I need a clearance letter from my current psych because of my bipolar 2. I called my psych and she is happy to clear me and gave me an appointment for tomorrow. Nut already called and scheduled me for next week. EGD scheduled for July to check for hernias. Just need an appointment with cardiologist to get cleared. I'm super excited. Was anyone else asked for a current psych clearance? Where are you guys on your process? Sent from my SM-J700T using BariatricPal mobile app

    Post op Day 3

Hey there! I was banded 3/8/13. I found that by taking the gas x strips really helped with the bloating. I am 1 week out today and down 14 pounds and feel great! Good luck
  8. I finally gave up trying to eat enough Protein, flew to Dubai and bought myself some Isopure. It has 50 grams of protein in 2 scoops and it tastes horrible but its doable, yesterday was the first day I had unlimited energy.. I'm flying back soon and want to buy some 3/4 huge containers, is this a good idea?? Thanks for listening Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk
  9. I'm going through the same thing and I am 3 months post op! I have been in the ER 3 times for it now and they can't figure it out. They don't want to admit that it is the band causing so much pain. I wish I could help! I'll keep you posted if I find out any more answers... The only thing I can say is that most people stop feeling pain after a little while. My situation may just be rare.

    Pain surgery 6/15/15

I am 2 weeks 2 days post op and I am having similar pain. This is totally normal. Our bodies are adjusting and the left side where most of the trauma took place is still going to be sore. Be careful to not overextend. I read this can happen for up to two weeks and then it will just go away. Give it time ... My pain is already easing up. Hope this helps. Drink water!
  11. Oh...and I could have had a surgery appt within 2 weeks if I had wanted to, being self pay.

Horomonal Eating - PMS and all that jazz

I'm struggling with hormonal eating right now, too! My PMS is vicious. But like other said, the hunger isn't nearly as sharp as it was pre-surgery. And when I do give in to cravings, my ability to overeat is very limited. I let myself get too hungry last Friday and told myself I could eat whatever I wanted at the restaurant I went to and ended up getting a burger and fries. I decided to eat until I was completely satisfied, and only managed to eat 1/2 the burger and 1/3 of my fries before I felt too full to continue. Now old me? Especially premenstrual old me? I'd have wolfed down the whole burger, all the fries (plus mayo), plus the rest of my partner's nachos, 2 more beers, AND ordered dessert. And probably would've eaten more when I got home. The surgery makes a HUGE difference.
  13. I choose to weigh on the day I have to get up early in the morning. I work one morning shift a week, so I weigh Thursday's at 6:40 am, when I wake up after I've gone to the bathroom. That is the only weight I record. Now strangely that is not my lowest weight of the day. It is usually around noon or one (before I eat lunch). I am a chronic weigher it helps keep me on track. I try to ignore the day to day fluctuations. I do try to look at what I ate the day before. But I only truly accept the one weight a week.
  14. Damn scale. I work out and jump on that scale and it seems like it hardly moves then go to the dr and realize I lost 9 pounds in a month. Felt like I had lost nothing because I was watching it go down ounce by ounce. I weigh once a week now, at the gym, don't even have a scale at home. The scale will drive you crazy! LOL I feel great, that's what is most important! So many non scale victories to enjoy along with the weight loss, don't forget how rewarding they can be too! Good Luck!

    I'm having some trouble

Interesting. I sometimes feel this too, but not for as long as you've experienced. I do wonder if my food addiction will 'switch' to a food phobia or anorexic type of disorder. Sometimes I feel anxious about eating, and since I don't feel hunger (at least not yet) it's easy for me to forget to eat. Since I tend to lose in short bursts and then plateau for a few weeks it kind of reinforces my desire not to eat. I can usually get down a Protein shake during these times, as I know I cannot go down that path. But it can be a struggle. Other times I want to binge! But thankfully my sleeve won't let me. Food issues can really mess with your head! I'm a believer in therapy, so that's my safety net. That, and a great NUT. I hope you find an answer soon, and can get back to a healthy diet & feel better. Please keep us posted.
  16. I have been banded for 6 months and I have lost appox 36lbs. I eat 1000-1200 calories a day and I do Cardio 5 days a week for about an hour. I wear a heart rate monitor and work out until I've lost at least 800 calories, which usually takes an hour. I've been consistently losing 1.5 lbs a week since my last fill and I feel I'm in the green zone. I know 1.5 a week is good and its been continuous, but I would like to lose at least 2lbs a week which is still considered a healthy weight loss. Any ideas? I'm up for anything!!

    Starting pureed foods

have you tried using a baby spoon? I use a baby spoon and only eat about 1/4 - 1/3 of a baby spoonful at a time
  18. So the Holiday Goodies are coming out and more so at work then anywhere else. First was the chocolates and candies. Now there is the susages with cheeses. Soon there is the company Christmas party. How are you handling this? Not in weather your eating these treats or not but in the fact of emotionally handling NOT eating these. Today when I came into work there was the suasage and cheese blocks sitting out in the kitchen here. This is one of my huge favorites during the holidays. It's really the first time that I missed actually having something that others are having. I just am constantly reminding myself of what I am doing and how much better I will feel in a few months/years when I have lost the weight. I am still in the full liquids phase according to my surgeons orders so even getting some suasage and cheese to mush up isn't going to work. Well no worries. So what am I doing to avoid temptation? Easy! The band. I am so scared of getting something caught in my throat and PBing that I am not willing to take the chance. Maybe next week when I am on mushies I can have some for a small lunch. LOL We will see.
  19. 3 weeks post op with gastric bypass. Dr recommends 60-80 grams of Protein per day. This is recommended to everyone. Question is, I'm 6'7" - 290 now and large build. This seems low to me. I can get 80 with just food and no Protein shakes. I don't want to add calories for no reason, but feel more protein may be needed. Any suggestions

    Coffee again?

noradelgado84, Depends on your surgeon. I was able to drink decaffeinated coffee a week out with no sugar-used Stevia and fat free 1/2 and 1/2--which does have sugar. I wasn't cleared for regular coffee for three months. I had given up caffeine for several weeks before surgery and I'm very glad I did. Welcome to the "loser's" bench!! Kathleen

  22. Congratulations John! 35 lbs in six weeks - that's six pounds a week - good for you!!
  23. I've noticed mine starting to slow down as well. Had my surgery Nov. 3rd and it's a really slow loss the past 3 weeks or so. Maybe a pound or two. I'm also able to eat more now and I've been working out in the gym the past 2 weeks as well. I'm trying to tell myself to just stay the course, which I will and make sure I do. Also, I'm now making sure I don't weigh myself more than once a week because I don't want to be obsessed with just the number (pounds). I can easily let that get the best of me and I will not let that happen. I don't know if this is the answer, but it's my plan. From what I've read on here, just stay the course, keep track of calories and don't obsess with the pounds. Good luck!

    Tomatillo Chicken Soup

Made this before being sleeved and in going through my meal planning the other day, I realized it is a perfectly low-carb meal - perfect for the cold weather! So we are off to watch a friend in a gymnastics meet and this is in the crockpot and will be ready for dinner when we get home. Good thing DD7 LOVES spicy! Calculated in MFP for a total of 8 servings, per serving nutrition information: 128 calories, 6 carbs, 2 grams fat, 27 grams protein! (If you add a little cheese or sour cream/greek yogurt as a topping, that will of course add to the calories etc.) Tomatillo chicken Soup Prep Time: 30 minutes | Cook Time: 6 to 7 hours (low ) or 3 to 3 1/2 hours (high) | Servings: | Difficulty: Medium 6 tomatillos, husks removed and rinsed 1-1/2 lb. chicken breast halves 32-oz. chicken broth 1 sweet pepper, chopped 1/2 cup chopped red onion 1 stalk celery, chopped 1 4-oz. can diced green chiles 2 Tbsp. snipped fresh cilantro 1 jalapeño pepper, seeded and minced* 1 T. ground cumin 1 T. lime juice 2 t. chili powder 2 cloves garlic, minced 1 t. salt 1tsp. ground black pepper Chop three tomatillos. Place remaining tomatillos in blender. Cover; blend until smooth. In a 3-1/2- or 4-quart slow cooker combine pureed and chopped tomatillos, chicken, broth, sweet pepper, onion, celery, chiles, cilantro, jalapeño, cumin, lime juice, chili powder, garlic, and 1 tsp. each salt and pepper. Cover; cook on low for 6 to 7 hours or high for 3 to 3-1/2 hours. Remove chicken; let stand until cool enough to handle. Shred chicken; return to soup. If desired, top with sour cream, additional chopped red sweet pepper or jalapeño peppers, snipped cilantro, and/or tortilla chips. Makes 4 to 6 servings. That's great news! Congratulations and best of luck. A couple of things I thought of real quick. I'm sure others will have some good suggestions as well. - Get your Protein drinks (I personally like Pure Nutrition Protein from costco....but I drank Boost initially for the variety). Others like unjury. Try a few before your surgery so you can pick the ones that you like best - Different broths and Soups - Crystal light - sugar free Jello Gelatin - Sugar Free popsicles This will help you through the initial days of recovery until you are well enough to do some shopping for mushies. The largest variety of each of these items that you can get the better. You are stuck on a boring liquid diet for a week or two, so variety will make it a little more interesting.
