Dr. not able to access port

I had my first fill yesterday, like I mentioned before my doctor was not able to access my port. I was lucky yesterday, I had my fill done under a fluoroscopy. It went great, the doctor did numbed the area. I didn't feel any pain at that time, but after I did. Anyways, my port was hard to reach, it did took the doctor about 10 min to actually get the port so she could do the fill. I got a 1.6cc. I was on liquids yesterday, today I can start with soft foods. This morning I had some cream of wheat about 3/4 of a cup because I was already full. One of the other things I wanted to mention is what the doctor told me about fills not done under a fluroscopy, is not always accurate, sometimes the needle doesn't go inside the port and then the saline leaks. The area were the saline in inserted is about a size of a dime. That's why its better to have a fill under fluroscope.

    Holy Cow!

I am new to this site and I have to share a huge victory for me today! I was banded on October 10 of this year and I had extremely high everything. I had my cholesterol tested Monday and I have cut my numbers by over half. I went from a ratio of 8.4 to 3.8!!!!! I am amazed! I will have another victory to hold onto on bad days! I am so happy and relieved! Had to share it with you guys! hopefully the blood pressure numbers will start to drop soon! By the way- this is a great site!!! You guys are so wonderful to each other. I am glad I found you!
  4. Hi all, I am going for surgery next week 9/13/06, and not looking forward to Clear liquids for 10 days, so I was excited to hear about this bouillon that was so good and high in Protein, like 32gm. It does come in some interesting flavors, but I don't see the protein. I just bought the beef and it says 1gm, so, am I missing something? I'm looking for the person who posted about this who might can fill me in. I love this forum and all the info. I've gotten. Heading for bandland. Down 8lb on preop diet. Excited. Leaving tomorrow for TJ. Thanks for any info. Jewel

    Big Day Tomorrow

It was a breeze, the pain was minimal and after 2 days no narcotics. I was truly surprised. I was banded 19 Oct 07. I am on full solids, never hungary, or if I am, it feels very different from pre-surgery hungar. My physical pain levels have decreased 75-80%. I am so delighted. Hang in there, you can do this and the rest of your life will be so manageable, even with the ups and downs. Mary 274 day of surgery 251 today goal 134
  6. Way to go Sister!!!! 10 lbs down !!! When was the last time you lost 10 lbs so quickly. What is your plan for the scales, Im thinking twice a week. I cant believe I actually want to weigh, that is just so wierd. Usually I avoid the scales like a plaque. So funny.... Dont worry about eating too much, you cant your stomach wont let you. I found I can eat about 3/4 cup Soup, you got to remember alot of that is liquid so it processes quickly, when you move to the soft foods, your intake will be more limited because our stomach will fill up and hold it longer. Your doing FANTASTIC!!!!
  7. So today I got my GI clearance and is very excited !! It was my last appointment and I contacted my doctors office via email and they stated I will be submitted to insurance as soon as they get the faxes .. Hopefully I can be submitted by the weekend. VERY EXCITED for my life to be more healthy before my life really starts, this is the best thing I could have decided to do. 19 years old and getting healthy for me and my future
  8. Youknowit.. I laughed so loud when I was reading your post, I can so relate and really really appreciate you sharing your wisdom. I should be able to drive home, I have a new "fixer" that is only 10 minutes from the airport. I am going to return there and do some painting and general work when I return. I received an email saying NO lifting over 5 pounds and NO BENDING (???) for 6 weeks? Yikes! Did ya'all have problems with bending too? I did with my abdominoplasty 11 years ago, but I didn't think about this. What do you think?

    Blue Care Network Mi

I think most MI based insurance programs have a 6 month process. I had to meet with a doc once a month, the nut, exercise, and behaviorist one time. The insurance companies changed their policies on June 1st this year...call and check with them (ask you docs office for the surgery codes before you call) Sleeved 10\23\12 by Dr. James Foote, Grand Health Partners

    My new sleeve :)

I still can hardly believe how great things are going. I stayed at a hotel for a few days post op bc I live about 8 hours from hospital. Came back home yesterday and was so happy to see my baby girl again! She is only 2 so she doesn't understand why I can't pick her up yet. I showed her my boo boos and she gave me a check up with her dr kit, made my day! My hunger has been nearly non existent. Toughest part was fixing her dinner and snacks, used to I would eat along with her. I can drink water without much restriction if I pace myself, but protein drinks and protein soups I feel very full at about 3 oz. still no pain or nausea. I have lost 10 lbs since surgery 6 days ago, I know that is not a realistic or sustainable rate, but for now I am loving it!

8 days post op--- feeling bad

You just had surgery…give yourself time to heal and readjust….it took about 10-12 days before I was really feeling like my old self. I was tired after returning to work….I spoke to my doc about it and they said it was normal….part of the healing process. If you still feel this way be sure to check in with your doctor…they are the ones who will know best if it is normal or if you need to be seen or what you can do to help yourself get through it. Good luck and keep us posted.

    Gastric sleeve and lupus

I had bypass on 11/21/19, and I was diagnosed with SLE, Sjogrens, and PMR in 2017. Thanks God it’s well controlled with Plaquenil. The only issue I’m experiencing is the fatigue, and I’m noticing hair loss starting. That scares me the most, but I’ve added Biotin to my vitamin regimen. The pain and discomfort I’m still experiencing I’m not contributing that to my Lupus at this time. I had hernia repair too and that’s the area the bulk of my pain is, and lower abdominal region. I wish you the best of luck. Just know there’s no more oral prednisone if you have to use that for flare ups it has to be IV, or injection only from what my doctor told me. It cannot be long term.

    Going crazy

That's good math and good advice. I searched for 'how many calories to maintain weight.' I found a million sites, I went to the first ten: Site 1: Fit Magazine, 2294 Site 2: Calorie Control, 2171 Site 3: WebMD, 1600 Site 4: Free Dieting, 1914 Site 5: Cancer.org, 1500 Site 6: Calorie King, 1850 Site 7: Walking.com, 2150 Site 8: Fat Burning Furnace Reviews, 1911 Site 9: WL for Women >40, 1992 Site 10: Mayo Clinic, 1650 So the range is 2294 - 1500 calories each day. That's the difference of a meal a day. Mind you, I used 'sedentary' as the lifestyle, assuming I would not get much exercise in each day. More logical to assume none than to estimate (over-estimate?) a level of activity. So using the formula for losing 1 lb = a 3500 calorie deficit each week (I just LOVE math word problems, can you tell?), the range for me would be: (2294 x 7) - 3500 / 7 = 1794 to (1500 x 7) - 3500 / 7 = 1000 Wow, talk about an inexact science. That's enough to drive me right to the cookie jar! I think I lost a pound just working my brain that hard!
  14. GregI know exactly what you mean with above statement had my sleeve 12/15/11 - - been on disability retirement past 5 years since i was 53 - thus medicare. BCBS is my secondary from my office. dr.s office told me they didn't accept Medicare, but my paperwork would have to be sent to them after WLS - they would then automatically deny, then send to my dr.s office (wasn't covered at all last year) then my dr.s office would submit to my 2ndary BCBS - who does cover the sleeve - i was a good candidate because my BMI was 40, and i had diabetes, HB, sleep apnea so..............i had to have the WLS without being "officially" approved - without knowing for sure if i was covered i did feel pretty safe that i'd be covered so i proceeded to be sleeved 2 months PO, after all paperwork was sent here and there, I was approved by BCBS - WooHoo fast forward.... from DOS 12/15/11 weight 235, i'm down 90 lbs to 145 lbs WooHoo i look and feel great - been stalled past couple of months, trying to loose 10 more lbs so i can say i lost 100 lbs!!! wish medicare could have accepted me to begin with - but i'm glad they are joining the 21rst century and now working with the sleeve too for you NEWBIES - good things DO happen to those who wait. God Grant me Patience, Just Hurry About It
  15. I am 5 weeks post op and i just got my second fill. This seems a little fast to me, but my doc said get you butt isn here if you can eat more than a cup and can not go 4 hours between meals. Well, I have wanted to eat everything in site and everything goes down just fine. So now I am up to 4 cc's. Just wondering how many cc's everyone else has and when they started to really feel restriciton. I h ave a 10 cc band. Have a great Christmas everyone.

    Leona06's Band Day

Dr. Averbach banded me too--on January 19, and I have lost nearly 70 lbs. How did you like him? I've had two fills so far. Did he do your first fill in the hospital under fluroscope?

    8 days post op

Glad I'm not the only one. I'm 10 days post op and I haven't felt full either. I almost wanted to call my surgeon yesterday and ask how big he REALLY left my stomach. Lol. I think I'm being overly cautious with the food though - I'm scared I'll pop a staple! Sent from my iPhone using VST
  18. I located this dr. by doing research. He is from Kings daugthers Hospital and I decided to change my last Dr. for Dr. S and you know what he is very good and very careful. He told me that I had 7 ccs in my band and that my old Dr. said I had 5 ccs in the band, he actually showed me the fill in the syringe while it was still attached to me sort to speak, it blew my mind what I was looking at. In the past my old dr. would put in a 0.25 cc and then I would be over filled and then he would take it out and then re fill me again sounds like a gas can right lol . But there was one time when my old Dr. ordered me a GI for tightness and another Dr. took care of me and he extracted 6 ccs back then and the nurse said no I only had 5 ccs, well how can you argue when the facts are right in front of you. So someone made a big boo boo on me for sure. I now have 7 1/4 ccs in my 10 cc band and you know what so far so good. I am dropping pounds and feeling better for some reason and for the pst 2 years I ahve been hanging at 180 pounds and now the weight is finally moving off (again) I am so thrilled. Dr. S. in now in Killeen, Texas on Clear Creek Rd he has a wonderful staff andhe is very friendly but professional, he is a regular surgeon as well. So there you go, check him out and see what you think.

  21. Is it normal to stalll 1 week out? I am 10 days out and have been stalled since day 7. Getting in almost 60 ounces of water daily but need to step up the protein
  22. Yeah, it's pretty disgusting. My father was "only" 63 when he died, which to me is young but I realize it's considered older to a lot of people. Funny thing is, his doctor was probably only 10 years younger then him at the time he was ill. I did feel he was ignored because he was older, and a 3x cancer patient. I think they pretty much "gave up" when he got sick again. I'm in Oklahoma and I agree, our medical community needs to start treating some of us with a lot more respect. There are many providers that are wonderful....but the ones that treat people like crap because of their weight or age (or any reason!) need a kick in the pants.
  23. I had my surgery in April. By the middle of June I was staying focused. I was attending my OA meetings every week, I was walking at lunch time, I was eating the right things. Then on June 16th my oldest son (10) told me that my husband, his step dad, beat him up while I was at my OA meeting a month prior. Needless to say my life became different instantly. I had to kick out my husband the next day. There was a lot of unpleasant stuff over the next 3 weeks that resulted in a restraining order against him which included no visitation with our 2 year old daughter. I was devastated. How could a man I was so in love with be like this? So, 3 months later, at my 3rd fill appointment, I had only lost 4 pounds. Considering all of the emotional eating I was doing, I was pretty happy that I had lost those 4. At my 2nd fill appointment, a week after I kicked out my husband, I told my PA that was giving me the fill, about what was going on in my life. She said to just focus on getting though it and not stress over the weight loss. Then at the 3rd fill appointment, when I only lost 4 pounds she was disappointed in me. I think she forgot what I was going through and I didn't want to talk about it anymore. My concern was that my PA seemed like she didn't want to give me a fill at the 3rd appt. because I hadn't lost enough weight. I finally got some restriction from that fill (5.5cc in a 10cc band), but I am not quite in the Green Zone yet. My next fill is Nov 8th. I lost 5 pounds after that fill, then more stuff happened with my husband and I gained back 4. I'm back to it now and lost 2, for a net loss of 3 pounds since my last fill. I'm worried that my PA won't give me a fill at my next appointment because I have not lost enough weight. So, I'm back at it, hoping that all of the divorce/custody stuff has settled down, and sticking to my meal plan. I can stick to it as long as I don't have the major emotional stuff going on in my life. Anybody else have major life changes happen during their journey? How did you deal with it? I can manage the head hunger that comesl with daily emotional/stress stuff. It was just the big whammy life stuff that knocked my train off the tracks. Has anybody out there be refused a fill because they didn't lose enough since the last fill?
  24. My BMI was a 36 and no other health problems. My first appt with Dr. was 7/2/12. Completed all testing required. I was approved with no complications. I was so worried I would not and my Dr. just said stop worrying about it. My first surgery date was 10/1 but Iron was to low, went for two iron transfusions all is good now! New date 10/23/12.
