    July Sleeve

Hi fellow July sleevers. I haven’t weighed myself in about a month because my scale broke-scheduled for visit for weigh in and check up with surgeon on Monday. Last I checked I was down about 60 pounds. Just had labwork done-b12 high but everything else good. Losing hair in clumps. Haven’t been exercising as much lately because it’s been so cold out (I usually walk around the neighborhood) - but they’re building a new gym near my home that’s only $10 per month so I’ll be joining. Can’t wait. It’s tough sometimes to stick with the diet-tried a Mac Donald’s cheeseburger last week and puked it up. I still have to pace myself and slow my eating down and still can’t tolerate plain water. Going on a trip to Disney in a few weeks so hoping I don’t have any problems with finding the right foods to eat.
  3. Have any revisionists had trouble getting motivation to lose more weight? I am going from lapband to sleeve on 2/20/19 and I feel like even though I have plenty to lose, I’m not feeling like I am going to, or that I am not as motivated to. Maybe it’s a defense mechanism? I am hoping it’s like when a woman has a baby and their “maternal instincts” kick in that I will feel more motivated after surgury to make weight loss a goal rather than just getting my lapband out... any one else struggle with this and if so, did that change after surgery? Thanks ahead of time.
  4. Update! Made it through the cardiovascular, nutrition & chest x-ray appointments today and then right back to work!! Needless to say it’s been a busy, long day! 1 more appointment left for the psychiatrist on 2/6/19 and then to submit to insurance. Omg I so pray this goes through! My out of pocket has already been crazy!

    Gastric sleeve and fibromyalgia

Yes it was a relatively low weight to start with but I am an extremely petite individual, not just in height. My bone structure is small and both my primary doctor and the surgeon felt it was a good option for me. My thighs are the biggest part on me and it was getting hard just to walk and the pain in my legs was keeping me up at night. Not to mention a whole lot of other ailments that many people at much higher weights experience. The doctors and I all knew that I would never lose the weight on my own. I was gaining in excess of 10 lbs a year and had gained 50 pounds from 2015 until 2018. So I decided to try to mitigate the weight gain. I can't tolerate the protein shakes, they make me sick and then I get too full and can't get in any regular food which the doctor would prefer I eat.

    December 2018 Sleevers!

Oh psyched - How exciting! Have a fabulous time in the BIG EASY with you and yours... Enjoying a well deserved getaway after surgery! Love the garden district (my background is design + architecture) and like you - there's nothing better than the local flavors and cuisine. Do take a few bites for me. :] Still struggling with the vitamin regime - needing to add to an already ridiculous amount of pills according to nutritionist today iron + zinc/vitamin C tablet? I thought I was covered in 2 multi's per day (never took anything but a levothyroxine pill before) along with B12melt, B-1, Calcium. I really dislike this aspect and am still very confused. What is your vitamin routine? Do they leave you queasy or nauseated? Other than that - savoring our cooler climes given that we are hot 10 months out of the year or more with an increase of severe tropical storms and hurricanes come May. Oh boy.

Who is sick of purees? Some fresh ideas...

Slightly gutted. Your ideas all sound fab on paper and will keep.an eye on the thread, but I'm ruled by texture and whizzed up lunch has me mentally done before I begin. Never say never though! Started purees today (10 days post sleeve) with porridge cos I loved it. Puree 'safe space'. Fine milled porridge with lots milk powder added to 1%. Had idea I was meant to eat until I'm 'full', or for 20 minutes. Whichever is sooner. Though my stomach didn't totally rebel, eating was really unpleasant. Didn't like texture. Stopped when it ticked to more like nausea...10-15 TSP and approx 5g protein in. Huge win that it stayed down and I got that far, but sad the easy end of the puree scale was so tough. Usual 'Am I normal/am I doing it wrong?' questions Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatalk
  14. I stopped my BP pills after surgery and just monitored my BP as my PCP advised. I have had no issues with my blood pressure and it remained stable after surgery. I also use my CPAP religiously and have been using it for over 10 years. I am glad you brought up this topic because it reminded me that I need to make an appointment to get checked out again by a pulmonologist. I had quit smoking 2 years ago and now that I am loosing the weight, I hope that I can get off the machine myself. After so many years of being on CPAP it would definetely feel strange not to have to use it anymore.
  15. Highest weight: 354 Lowest (2nd yr post-op): 188 My senior year of high school, I weighed my heaviest at 354 pounds (17 years old). I was on numerous meds for pre-diabetes, BP, PCOS, and my knees were in bad shape. I tried EVERY diet, meal plan, and exercise routine/programs to try to lose the weight. I was even put on diet pills at the age of 14, which made me feel like I was about to have a heart attack. I was at a yearly doctors appointment when they sent me to the ER because my blood pressure was at stroke level of 200/120 at the age of 17. That’s when she suggested gastric sleeve surgery. I signed me and my mom up for the required first seminar to hear about my options and scheduled my first appointment with the most amazing surgeon I will ever meet. I had my surgery a few months later (July 2015). Being so young, everyone was not really positive about this major surgery. But I did my research extensively and I took every class required, went to every specialist needed, got my PCP on board to ensure I knew what I was doing. This surgery was meant to be. I LOST OVER 150 pounds my 1st year post-op!!!! Then was able to shed off about 10-15 pounds more the following year. Coming into my 4th post-op year (2019), I am now in Pharmacy school pursuing my dreams. I have found my 3rd post-op year the hardest....I moved off to school, and I gained about 30 pounds. I’ve lost 8 pounds since Christmas but I just can’t seem to shed anymore. I never reached my “Goal Weight” but I was within 10 pounds of it. But now I’m back in the 200’s club and I’m at a loss. I just want to be back in “One-derland”. And I’m struggling, I’m stressed which now for me means I can’t eat anything really which obviously hasn’t helped me shed a pound. Any tips or suggestions are welcome!! Being 22, I know I’m young but I still struggle with everything that is tied in with WLS life.

    New & Nervous

I have BCBS of Illinois. I live Idaho. All of my requirements just got submitted this Monday the 28th. I called on them on Tuesday and she told me they had all the paperwork and that it would take 10-15 days. Hope this helps! Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app
  17. Hello all newbie here! I had my first consultation with the dr 01/17. I have 2 appointments tomorrow for the nutritionist & a heart / cardio test? And 2/6 is the psych exam. Surprisingly it’s not much to do! I’m sooooo hoping for a quick & easy approval as I have put this off for years only due to the feelings of others. This time I choose me and what I need! I have bcbs of Illinois with my employer although I live in Texas. Type 2 diabetes diagnosis last year and Edema never had these issues before.. smh. As well I’ve been very private about this.. I brought it up before and omg the lectures I’ve heard due to being successful at loosing weight before when I was much younger with more time on my hands.. Anyway no one is positive. I don’t know anyone close that has had this done before so I’m kind of alone with it. The one person I told doesn’t like it but understands but just isn’t as interested as I’m like omg I hope this works out! Anyone else have the same insurance? Anyone else alone in this situation? Any advice, tips? I just need something to keep me from thinking of this daily! Smh help

    A few NSVs

And now that January 2019 is about to end, have YOU had an NSV yourself?
  20. Hey Girl, I've read your story and fully understand. My husband is similar in that he would be scared of something happening to me. So we would have a huge argument, and I'd go anyway feeling bad. However, my advice, not that you asked. Do Not tell him. I know the letter came and all that, he cant stop that part of it, but you should not go into surgery after a huge confrontation with him. Do yourself a favor and go through the surgery with happy thoughts. My vsg date is April 30, 2019. I will not be telling my husband for just that reason. No arguments, pleasant procedure. It's all about Me! I wish you the best in whatever you decide. Sent from my LM-X210(G) using BariatricPal mobile app

Fun Containers to Drink Broth From?

I need to start my all-liquid diet on February 3 for 10 days. I can have broth, which will probably be one of the tastiest things I'll having during those days and of course for a few weeks after my surgery.
  22. I can relate to you my friend. I am six weeks out and have only lost 14 pounds since surgery. I find myself stressing about it and that is not a good thing. I started at 204.4 presurgery, 194.2 day of surgery and am at 180.4 now. I lost 10 pounds in 2 weeks and I am surprised that in 4 weeks I only lost 14 pounds additional. I know there is a lot that I am doing wrong at this time like not enough protein, water and calories. But I am doing the best that I can and I know it will all come together. It simply does me no good to compare to those that lost 30 lbs in the first month or to beat myself up about my progress. So don't stress, just give it time.
  23. I have intractable vomiting after my sleeve surgery. I vomit 10-20 times a day, every day for nearly 5 years. I have had 4 years of being rejected by surgeons for any type of surgical fix due to complications of my previous sleeve- including a stroke caused by severe dehydration. all surgeons report bypass is my only fix but no one has wanted to touch me. I have finally found a surgeon willing to try to fix me. has anyone else had similar issues and did bypass help resolve them?

    Am I the Only One?

Hey ya'll. I'm on my fourth week after having lap band surgery and will get my first adjustment/fill at the end of this week. I am very excited about that. However, I am a bit concerned/annoyed because the past week and a half of being on solid foods has shown me that I don't necessarily feel like my ability to eat a normal portion of food has diminished. I have encountered a few moments where I've eaten a protein that I didn't chew well and drank immediately after which ultimately made me feel miserable, however, if I really allowed myself, I could eat a normal portion of food as if it were no big deal. I will say that there's no way I can eat the amount that I used to but to me the amount I can eat is still more than I expected, definitely more than what the guide is saying. Not to mention it seems as though my appetite has been growing over the past 5 days. I hope I'm not the only one this has happened to but if so, any suggestions? My doctor has yet to call me back and this is heavy on my mind. I'm assuming this won't be a concern once I get my band filled but still, I have only lost about 30lbs since my heaviest weight, I'd say 25lbs since the surgery itself and I really feel as though it should be 10-20lbs more than that. HELLLPPPPP!

What is the best time?- May be TMI

Oh gosh a subject near and dear to my rear! Hugs to you sweetie. It's no fun. Like Rosemary's Baby kind of no fun!!! Sorry to hear you are also suffering from "occasional irregularity" *snort*!!! So for me (we're all diff), I don't know much diff in when I take something (morning or bedtime) other than MOM, I pretty much time it for 12 hours from ingestion. And Dulcolax may be like that for you? You will just have to wait and see. My daily protocol now (and it's still spotty at best -- like every 2-3 days--but at least they aren't painful deliveries) is: 17g Miralax in coffee 3 Colace (docusate sodium) 11g Whole Psyllium Husks (NOW brand), dose split in half in mid-morning and mid-afternoon. I dissolve it in Celestial Seasonings Cinnamon Apple Spice Tea with a squirt of liquid vanilla stevia. Stir and drink. Then follow with a bottle of water. 1/2c of Greek yogurt with live cultures I also try to get in as many greens as my tum has time to process. 100+ oz of liquid each day Then about every 10 days to 2 weeks, I end up needing either MOM or a glycerin suppository. The goal would be to stop the use of MOM/supps and be able to ween off of Miralax. But dunno if that's ever gonna be possible. Hope it gets better for you and that some of this protocol works for you!
