  1. @scoutmom... hi we are very similar. I had the sleeve in 2015. I had also gained back 40lbs because I had such bad GERD which turned to Barrett’s Esophagus and all I wanted to eat was comforting carbs. So I just had revision surgery 8 weeks ago to the bypass. I have lost 29lbs so far. The eating seems easier than after the sleeve, I’m progressing really well, even eating chicken. I don’t have that hard stop that I had with the sleeve so I weigh and measure everything. I did get thrush after surgery which was something I was told was common after that surgery, so be aware of that. I can drink very well, unless I gulp too fast or too much. You’re going to do great and I’m sure you may be nervous but all will go well. I’ll keep you in my thoughts and prayers for a successful surgery and a quick recovery. Good luck!!
  2. I'm not a revision, but I've been hanging out on various forums for the last six or seven years. A lot of people lose about 20-ish lbs after a revision, but it depends a lot on how much weight you need to lose. There are some people who've lost a lot more than that.
  3. I am having a revision from VSG to RNY on 9/15 due to severe GERD....can anyone share their experience on weight loss post revision? A little history: I had my sleeve done in 2015 and loved it. Easy recovery and great results. For the past year, I developed severe ACID reflux and Gerd with a hiatal hernia. Unfortunately, I gained 40 lbs back. So much of this was due to the fact that if my sleeve was empty the acid was so much worse. So I started eating tons of carbs to keep the acid soaked up. I didn't catch it soon enough so the weight gain continued. I am very excited to get rid of the GERD, but also want to get a realistic weight loss goal in my plan. How much did you lose after your revision?
  4. I had sleeve in 2016 and then developed GERD which resulted in a hiatal hernia. On 8/3/20 had a revision to bypass and fix the hiatal hernia. So far I’ve been doing great and walking 5 miles a day. I have lost 25 lbs so far
  5. I was wondering the people who was revised from the lapband to gastric sleeve did you still have to do the 6 month weight lost management to be approved? I'm having sooooo many complications with my lapband and I'm hoping I don't have to wait 6 months. I need this band out asap.
  6. I`m in so much pain with the band I can`t stand it. I think it`s too tight right now so I may go in and get a slight unfill but then I`m afraid I`ll gain weight. I`ve got the slimies and the foamies and the constant pain when I eat but then sometimes I get through `the wall`and I can eat almost anything. It`s very inconsistant and it`s not even working for me right now. After initial success I haven`t lost any weight in the last couple of months despite the restriction. I`ve been reading about the sleeve and it sounds perfect. There are a couple of questions though. I read somewhere that not everyone gets to goal with the sleeve. Is that right?. (Sorry, my question mark is not working right now. Consider that big accented e my question mark.) Also, this thing about the reduced ghrelin. Isn`t ghrelin necessary for other functions in the body?. So are there disadvantages that come with a reduction in ghrelin?. Anybody know?. And price is an issue as well. If someone could tell me the price for band to sleeve revision I would appreciate it. I need to know how much I have to save up. Thanks
  7. Ok, I'm feeling a bit like an oddball here. I keep reading about everyone having trouble getting all their liquids in, having problems with fullness, nausea and even dizziness with drinking...and I'm just the opposite! I didn't get to drink until late in the day AFTER surgery, but even that first bottle of Water went down just fine. I'm telling myself it's because I'm already used to sipping (had issues with the LapBand leading up to the revision), but even now, 5th day post-op, I drank a Protein shake with no issues. Again, I'm NOT guzzling...I know better. But at the most, I sometimes feel a bit of "movement" in my lower abdomen when I drink. Other than that, I feel like I could drink (maybe even EAT) anything. I'm NOT going to test that...I'm pretty good at following dr orders and being cautious, especially while healing. But even though I know it's a GOOD thing that I'm not having trouble with liquids, it's also frustrating because I'm already dealing with wanting more... So has anyone else been this way in the beginning. I know I should start feeling fullness when I start on soft foods, but for me, that's still 3+ weeks away...
  8. So I'm thinking about giving up on my insurance fight and just switching to self-pay. I had a slipped band over a year ago. It took 6 months to get the insurance company (Fed BCBS) to finally agree to remove the band but they denied a revision to VSG stating it wasn't medically necessary because my BMI was under 35. I submitted an appeal to the Federal Office of Personnel Management in October for what was supposed to be a 60 day appeal. They "lost" my case and had to start over. Then they closed it because they didn't understand I was asking for a revision and not some sort of random partial gastrectomy. They finally sent it out for review but it sounds like they didn't select a bariatric surgeon because the answer last week came back that it isn't medically necessary because my weight isn't over a 40 BMI. The told my attorney to wait for the report and then call and talk to the nurse but I haven't heard back yet. At this point it's been almost 7 months since I submitted the appeal. This has been going on for so long I'm almost back to my original weight. If I had it to do over again I'd have done a self-pay revision with Dr. Aceves right from the start. Heck, I'd be at my goal weight by now. I just don't have it in me to keep this up. I went ahead and requested a surgery date with Dr. Aceves and put first-class airline tickets on hold on my miles. I can't think what hoops the insurance company would have next. They just don't get that the standard of care for a revision doesn't require you to regain all your weight first. I could go forward with the surgery and then sue them after the fact but I'm not sure it's worth the mental energy after all this. I had some old Microsoft stock lying around and it's almost enough for the surgery. I'm thinking that I'll never miss the money and can just get on with my life. I don't want to self-pay up here because it's really expensive and they don't cover complications like Dr. Aceves does. I could be down there next weekend having this done and just moving on. Thoughts? I could use some additional input... Thanks! Britt

    Lap-band

There's nothing I can say about bypass. I was beginning to think I might be a revision candidate, but, happy to say, my band is still viable; seven years next month. May I ask why you're considering revision?

    Lapband Complication-Needs Removed

I’m a band to SIPS DS revision (8/8/17) I did not have Barrett’s but I was getting terrible reflux with my band. I was also getting stuck on water! I’m so glad to have my torture band removed. It is so nice eating solid food without struggle. I had also gained all my weight back plus some. Since my revision though, I’ve passed my lowest band weight. And definitely couldn’t be happier. Good luck, I hope your next journey goes smoothly!
  11. Hi all. First post here! Long story short--I have a 10 year old lap band that I'm having nothing but trouble with. My doc said I could revise it to either a sleeve or bypass. Right now I have Aetna, but by the time I do the 6 month diet I will be on Medicare and the doc doesn't know if they cover revisions. Anyone out here have any experience with this? Thanks!
  12. Hi... i hope you are recovering well. I was revised from band to sleeve... and the difference is like night and day. When i had my band removed i did have a "phantom" band for a few weeks... but once that subsided my tummy was like my pre band tummy... normal. Now that i am sleeved and healed... it just feels like a normal stomach... i can eat and drink without feeling odd sensations, pressure or food getting stuck like the band. Earlier out when i was healing, if i ate too fast or didn't chew properly i would get a little "stuck" feeling.... but nothing like the stuck feeling with the band... sort of like.. stuck without that heavy pressure. For me, once i passed the first 3-4 weeks... everything just became easier.... now i feel like a normal person, who just eats smaller portions.. Water isn't a issue and i am meeting or exceeding my daily goals. One thing i will mention... as an ex bander... you will find you can fit a little more food/fluids than virgin sleevers... as we have less sensation in our esophagus because of the band.... so its important that we measure out food until we can adjust to reading the full signals...
  13. I was banded in 08, self pay, its slipped and I was denied for Sleeve. Should I do peer-to-peer with docs/insurance and appeal. I was denied for "non-compliance" - I wasn't having problems and didn't see a surgeon due to proximity and cost. I have coverage now that hasn't paid anything out - help on what to do - appeal?
  14. Hi everyone, I just wanted to post to see if there might be anyone out there that has had a revision done and gone through Kaiser Fontana? I was banded back in November 2002 (self-pay) and have just now started the process to get a revision done by Kaiser in Fontana. I have already had my Upper GI and Dr. Fedorka reviewed it and determined that I am a good candidate for the revision in one surgery after I complete the Options classes and the other requirements. It would be nice if all Kaiser's had the same requirements for WLS and it seems that Kaiser Fontana seems to take the longest. Kirstyn
  15. After being overweight my entire life I decided to get the lap band in dec. 2012. I really wanted gastric sleeve surgery at the time, but my insurance didn't cover it and I felt bypass was "too extreme". My band never could get in the "green zone" and because I traveled for work, often times would be in horrible pain because due to cabin pressure the saline in my band would get tighter. I was miserable! After continually vomiting, uncontrollable acid reflux and weight gain I decided to switch surgical programs and seek new advice. My new doctor advised me on having a revision done and now my insurance approves the sleeve surgery. I thought about it a few months as I was hesitant with feeling like such a failure with the band. In fact I was quite open with my first surgery but people would say later "I thought you were supposed to lose lots of weight?". It just added to my feelings of failure and this round I'm being much more protective of who I talk to about it. I've not gotten a lot of support for my choice but hope by joining this group others will be able to understand my journey and share their own. I'm now going through the approval process and hope to get my sleeve at the end of June.

    Sleeve to Bypass Revision

I can understand you concern with the Barrett's Esophagus. I was worried that I would have damage as well. I hope you can come to a quick solution. I am currently working on meeting all the insurance requirements. My best guess is that I will have surgery in late Sept, early October. I actually lived abroad for my first surgery. My surgery team was great. Follow-up care great. For me, I think bypass would have been the best option initially. Are you nervous about having the bypass? There are several posts about people revising due to GERD and/or Barrett's. What insurance due u have?
  18. So excited. Put my stats into a BMI calculator and realised I'm no longer overweight. Yay. Still got a bit more to lose as my middle is still too thick to be healthy but being in the healthy weight range again feels amazing!
  19. I am having my revision on May 6th and I am really really nervous. I have no pre-op diet which I found weird. When banded 12/21/11 I had to eat a high protein no carb diet but not a liquid diet. I am wondering if it is because I am down to low 160's and eat mostly protein already. Also, I went from diabetic to low sugar issues and I am wondering if sugar will make me ill after the revision. It did not after the band. Even eating a small amount of popsicles, juice or jello with sugar will keep my sugar a bit more stable. I no they say sugar free but I get sick if my sugar gets too low. Has anyone else had or heard of this from anyone else?
  20. There was entirely too much damage from the band and the Dr couldn't dothe revision. My bad was 80% eroded and there was a hole that had to be repaired. So now I am left wondering what is next. I'm so disappointed.

VSG to RNY still have GERD

Hey All, Interesting thread. I have constant heartburn and had a VSG in 2016. If you had it to do over would you still get the RNY revision? I am wondering if its worth it if you get the heartburn anyway and are still constantly taking the PPI's?
  22. So it been almost 9 months since my revision to RNY from VSG. I had erosive esophagitis D and as of this past Dec it has gone down to an A. I still take Dexilant 60 mg and as I sit here typing I am on fire !!! Just wondering if anyone else is still going through this after being revised. I take the strongest PPI available that I am aware of but I shouldnt have to be on this PPI after the revision but here I am !
  23. I've had my band for 13 years. Yes, I "throw up" almost regularly. Can't eat bread hardly, fruits, french fries, etc. I lost 50 pounds and 18 months ago had a tummy tuck. The placement of the port has cause me ALOT of pain the last 9 months! It is now trying to poke through. A stitch has come through and I've also lost another 25 pounds. I'm so happy where I am weight wise and only have 15 pounds to go! Now I'm talking with a surgeon about removal. I'M SCARED TO DEATH! I DON'T EVER WANT TO BACK TO BEING OBESE EVER AGAIN!!!! Not even overweight! I've only read posts of other people removing the devices and gaining a BUNCH of weight!!! I'm thinking of revising, but 13 years is a long time to have something foreign in your body! I'm thinking of just asking him to move the port... Thoughts?

    It Finally Happened

I get my revision on Dec. 4. I can't WAIT to be done with this band!!!! I just had an "incident" yesterday and man o man will I be happy to be done with that. Most of the time I don't even know it's there and then BAM! Out of the blue I am completely stuck. I am sure I will have issues, too, because my pouch is really stretched. I hope your recovery goes very smoothly and I am so happy to hear you have no hunger. I am hungry all the time at this point.
