  2. @@TransformeVSG I too have TWO weddings. My nephew on Long Island, so I'm flying up exactly one month after for 2 nights. Then my best friend the weekend after on the Gulf Coast Florida (so I'm driving over). I do hope I have the energy. In my photo (which isn't everything I really have, lol). I have my Magic Bullet blender (had it for years), various types of Protein power (GENEPRO unflavor, unjury, BariatricPal various flavors and Soups, Syntrax Peanut Butter cookies) PB2, patch MD Vitamins, BariMelt vitamins, various minerals, nectar powder drinks, stock, boullion cubes and bone broth (chicken, vegie, beef), gas-x (BTW, during my pre-op, the nurse told me I could bring them to the hospital), beano, prevacid, Bariatric Samples of fusion shakes, decaf coffee and decaf peppermint tea, sugar free ice tea, mineral boost drink, my little 2 ounce cups. Not pictured in refrig are other ready to drink Protein Shakes and various types of Water with minerals and or protein. This morning I chose one of the samples i received, the fusion cinnamon bun. Funny, I came out of my room and loudy annouced I was having a cinnamon bun. My daughter dropped her jaw (my DH, just said thats nice and didn't look up, lol). Then showed them my shake. Anyway, first couple of sips, I said, hmmmmmm, it really tasted like a cinnamon bun......but after a while, I was turned off. It was just too sweet. Then again, I don't usually like the real cinnamon buns because they are too sweet.
  3. I've used GENEPRO for a long time. All my labs have been perfect. I use it in my kefir shakes and coffee. Sometimes I put it in Soup. I'm not going to go down that path again about the chemistry of Genepro (I'm a long time Protein purification chemist.) but I assure you that you PA wasn't wrong in recommending it.

    Fruit....

My surgeon does not allow fruit for a minimum of 3 months post op. He feels that you're trying to deplete your body of as much sugar as possible so it burns fat instead. It hasn't been that difficult to not have it accept find Greek yogurt flavors I like that aren't fruit. Also for Protein I've been using musclegens GENEPRO powder. It's 30 grams of protein in just a tablespoon of powder and 98 calories. I add it to 80 Greek yogurt and I have 42 grams of protein which makes me inly 1& grams away from my minimum requirement of 60 grams. It's totally tasteless. You can even get samples off their website $3.50 for 2! It's a great powder my nutritionist approved it.

    Clear liquids

I went with GENEPRO too. What a blessing. You can't taste it at all. I add it to my broth.

    Clear liquids

Atkins protein lift, I've seen those in the supermarket and Walmart. Isopure I found those at GNC and the Vitamin shoppe. I went with GENEPRO, it has 30g of protein in a tablespoon and is flavorless and odorless, I mix it with my Water with a little crystal light and that gives me two in one liquids and proteins, I got this at gnc. I could not stomach sweetness in the Atkins lift water post op, it was a bit much for me right now . I'm day 4 post op. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Protien on clear liquid diet

Chicken or beef broth, genepro, the Isopure if you can stomach it. It's pretty nasty but you can cut it with water or G2 and add MIO for extra flavor.

What if GENEPRO Protein and Coffee had a baby?

I myself am a user and a big fan of Genepro, but anyone considering using it should be aware it is somewhat controversial. They have been sued for making claims that some say are physically impossible. Google for yourself and research.

    Protein shakes

A couple of posters have mentioned these -- Total Lean from GNC. They are my favorite too, and I want to note that they also sell Total Lean Natural. They sell a third one that I believe is vegan. The packages are nearly identical, so look closely, but the difference is that the "natural" one is sweetened with stevia rather than sucralose. To some people, stevia tastes much better, and some people get headaches from sucralose or (especially) aspartame. Long way of saying I'm another cheerleader for GNC Total Lean, natural edition (something tells me not much is natural about it...that's just what they call it), vanilla and chocolate. I keep a few packets on hand in case I have to mix one up during the day if I can't find appropriate food, but mostly I rely on big tubs of the powder that I keep at home. I rely on GENEPRO unflavored Protein powder. It's very protein efficient (a tablespoon has 30 grams protein, just over half a gram of carbs, and 56 calories) I use it to make my own shakes adding various liquids and flavors - Water, ice, nonfat greek yogurt, sugar-free flavored syrups, stevia, whatever. Another thing about the full liquids phases: you don't need to be on all shakes all the time. If you use GENEPRO -- or any unflavored powder you find you like, you can mix and hide it into foods in the pre and post op liquid stages and later post op food phases too. I like Protein Shakes, but at times, both pre and post op, I just wanted something savory, not sweet. When I was on liquids I was craving Soup, mixed in two teaspoons of the powder and boom, my soup had 20g+ protein. So when you're thinking about what to consume during the full liquid stages, don't forget that there are options other than sweet shakes. (You can also order savory protein Soups for the full liquid stages and skip the step of adding your own protein powder; I didn't do it so can't offer any advice!)

    Struggling Bad!

Well HON you CAN NOT do without your PROTEIN!!! You will get very sick. With that being said, you can order online a Protein powder that is unflavored. It is the only one that I have found that claims to be unflavored that is true to its word. You can add it to anything you want, I add it to my "SPECIAL COFFEE" every day. If anything it makes my coffee taste even creamier!! So here goes it is called GENEPRO. It has 30grams of protein in 1 scoop. Did you come home with directions of what you can eat now? If nothing else add some GENEPRO to your Beef or chicken broth. Make yourself up some Soup that you enjoy, lots of veggies cooked until they are mushy. I'm sorry you are having such a hard time. You will have lots of problems if you don't get your protein in. I was told at least 60grams a day. Now I'm not sure about the DS but I had the RNY. But I have been told DS need higher fats. Have you tried Cottage cheese? One thing I did is I put sugar-free strawberry Jam in my cottage cheese, it kind of tasted like a Strawberry Cheese Cake. If you can't get more protein in please call your Dr or your Nutritionist for some suggestions. Good Luck

    Struggling Bad!

Don't forget that part of the puree and soft food stages involves training your stomach, to some extent. It is recovering and it has to start functioning in a much smaller form than it has in the past. Your system has to sort of "recalibrate" through this process. So going in stages helps with that. If you jump right into soft foods, it may be a little harder on your stomach to process stuff. These stages are relatively fast though, one or two weeks...you can do it. Yes, it's sort of joyless, but you'll get through it. There's a time limit on it. Gettting that GENEPRO flavorless Protein has been a real help. I don't even do shakes anymore, I mix it in with Crystal Light, or with chili. After four weeks of shakes, I couldn't imagine buying another bag of that stuff.
  13. I am going on my 6th week post op. I can eat anything except raw veggies at this time. I am on the road all day seeing patients. So I bring cottage cheese, yogurt, and bring GENEPRO Protein to add to this. I can't tolerate shakes anymore. I don't know what to bring to eat!! I don't want to keep eating dairy and cheese all the time. I also don't want lunch meats as I know they are highly processed. I don't have access to a microwave. Any ideas what to take for lunches or small meals for the day? Thank you! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Need help with protein

I LOVE GENEPRO!!!! I have been using it for almost 4 months now. I add it to my coffee. Which I am a hard core coffee drinker so using the GENEPRO is a win win for me!! As far as Isopure I commend anyone that can handle it!! YUKKY I only wish I had found Genepro a long time ago. As I'm 3 years out and I would definitely hate to know how much money I have spent on different Protein drinks!!

    Protein

I had my sleeve surgery 6/21 and I haven't been able to eat canned tuna yet...the smell is horrid to me, and I was a tuna lover before Initially, you won't be able to get your Protein from food alone, so be prepared with a few alternatives. I liked the Premier Protein ready-to-drink that you can get at costco, chocolate was my go-to once I was on full liquids. I also used the clear Isopure drinks for a couple of weeks...I found the lemonade flavor to be most palatable. I also liked powdered Isopure proteins initially, now I can't tolerate the flavored ones, only the unflavored. My new find is GENEPRO powdered protein...it's flavorless, odorless and can be mixed with anything, hot or cold. 30g protein per scoop makes it a great supplement for me. Also, Syntrax nectars have been a nice option, they come in fruit flavors and mix with Water. They've helped with both my protein AND water goals. Now that I'm eating real food, I'm only using the Premier Protein RTDs as coffee creamer, mixed with a scoop of Genepro. Refried Beans are a great source of protein, thin them with water initially, now I mix with Genepro. I love fresh mexican cheese, so I put a few tablespoons of refried beans in a ramekin, top with queso casera and microwave to warm them up. I really like Pacific mushroom Soup, I chop up a little chicken and add it, the soup moistens the chicken and makes it easier to chew and swallow. A little mashed potato is another yummy option, top with some shredded cheese. And grilled salmon has been the easiest 'real' food I've eaten yet...it's soft and not too fishy, so it's going down easy. I've mostly concentrated on getting 90g protein and drinking 64 oz of Fluid daily...I'm down 25 lbs and feeling really great. Good luck to you!!

    Mixing two proteins

The Genepro stuff is too good to be true, so I wouldn't depend on that to do anything other than make expensive urine. The claim that some, even professionals, make about there being some protein limit per meal is somewhat dubious, and goes against our evolutionary biology - in the good old days we might gorge on an antelope and then have little protein for a few days - so there is some conflict between these "modern" hypotheses and how we actually developed. (A diminishing absorption with increased amount would be consistent with our biology, but not some magical cutoff point.) That said, I generally do space out protein, along with other nutrients, across the day, under the premise that there are many nutrients that work well together, and we have also evolved to graze (hunting and gathering...) and it is generally better not to overwhelm our systems, particularly with a reduced stomach. As long as we have to sip liquids all day to stay hydrated (until our drinking returns to semi-normal), why not just sip on another protein drink?
  19. Hello bariatric world, I have a concern. I am about 12 days post vsg and I'm having a hard time getting the required amount of protein in. I don't have an issue with premier protein. I purchased Genepro protein to up my protein intake. I wanted to know if it's ok to add a scoop of 30g of Genepro protein to a premixed premier protein shake? I don't want it to harm me. But it sounds like an awesome thing to do and get protein intake out the way. Please let me know if it's ok to mix both proteins. Thank you

  21. This is a bit of a vent and a lot of questions... I'm concerned I'm not eating enough. I'm 3 weeks out and on soft foods. I've just recently had my surgeon change my acid pills because I was having terrible heartburn that inflamed my sleeve. I'm a bit better now, but I don't think I'm eating enough, and I'm not sure I'm doing this right. Yesterday, I measured out 1/3 cup of cottage cheese with some crushed up pears for Breakfast. I try to eat only about 1 tsp a minute or so, but each one makes my sleeve contract in pain. By 5 tsp or so, I'm full and tired of the pain so I stop. I can't drink my Protein shakes because they are just too sweet. I'm going to try my GENEPRO unflavored in a bit of chocolate milk today. Anyway, I ate 3 ounces of refried Beans for lunch which took me 15 minutes or so because of the pain, and then dinner I had 1/2 cup of roast beef hash which went down nicely but was way too much by the end. I even tried to eat a pudding with genepro in it to get my protein in but I'm too full and uncomfortable after half of the snack pack. I totaled 545 calories yesterday and 50g of protein which I know is not enough. Should I just eat way slower and keep trying to get this food in, or is it ok to be this low? I'm having such a hard time telling "full" from the pain because every bite of food that isn't liquid makes my sleeve contract in pain, and it does this the whole time I eat. I don't really know when to stop because I know I can't be full from one small bite, so when am I supposed to stop?? I'm feeling so confused and discouraged. I'm losing weight, but I am not eating enough to have any energy, and I've been feeling terrible the last few days. I'm supposed to walk 2 miles a day, but how can I do that when I'm barely eating anything??

    unflavored powders question

genepro mixed in food can't taste it....quest unflavored i cant mix in with food (it was repulsive and chalky) but in a shake is fine
  24. Yikes. I'm 2 months post op and toss in a scoop of GENEPRO in my coffee each morning. Then usually have a Premiere shake as a snack at some point during the day. I don't think I'd make my goal each day without it. I hate greek yogurt and cottage cheese. I wish I were more creative.
