    4 wks post op

4th week....greek yogurt from light and fit, red seedless grapes, shaved deli meat ham and turkey. Saltines(2 will do it),cracker pretzels because it has no yeast so it won't get stuck, moist scramble eggs, soups, chicken-no noodle, bean soup, pasta fagioli without the pasta, ham salad from publix, protein bars, sugar free ice cream. I make sure i meet protein of 60grams and stay under sugar before giving myself a treat. Oh yeah, i managed 2 wings very slowly. Increasing the calorie intake has broken the 3 week stall.

    Banded Today!! 10/16/07

Hello Melissa, Topdowndog, and luvmy3boyz.... I am also an October 16th bandster and doing pretty good on the fourth day out... I was a little weak today, but I think it was from being on the clear liquid diet and needing something a little more. I had a yogurt smoothie and a bowl of cream of wheat and I feel much better... I haven't had any problems with gas pains and was lucky not to get a sore throat... My throat would get dry and hoarse but that was about it... I only got the nausea feeling once, but I did get the hiccups alot, but a couple sips of Water would take care of that.... I am very pleased with my progress so far and I'm looking forward to a healthier way of life... Good luck and many blessings to all of the October bandsters and keep us posted on your journey...
  3. On my doc's nutrition guide, he wanted all protein shakes. But when I had bloating/nausea with them, he said greek yogurt was okay. Generally, carbs should be under a set amount for a day, but realistically, it is okay to have a few if it helps you meet your protein goals. Eventually, you will have to integrate healthy carbs back into your diet, so I wouldn't get this rabid NO CARBS EVER mantra stuck in your head. I value learning to have a healthy relationship with food over religiously sticking to a diet that might not be working for me.

    Protein Is Such A Pain!

have you tried the 3 oz Protein shots? the atkins Protein Bars? the greek yogurt? I'm about 5 weeks post op as well and I still haven't used any form of protein powder or even a blender and I'm tracking my protein and everything else with myfitnesspal. The shakes I use are awesome and taste great. Maybe you want to try some other kinds. Below is a picture of the kind I'm using and I still love them after 3 months of drinking them http://www.contoursoftheearth.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/pure-protein-shake-cookies-creme-e1313198653500.jpg

    What can possibly go wrong?

I'm sorry to hear of all these troubles! You ought to make sure that there are no strictures presently. Then evaluate how you feel when eating each food "group". Dairy. Great protein. Slides right down. Eggs. Beans. Protein, can be in chili or soup, thinned refried. Fairly high in calories. Nuts and cheese. Protein, high calories. Oatmeal. Easy, can add in a ton of stuff. Potatoes/sweet potatoes.. they actually are a powerhouse.. calories and nutrients. Hopefully you can eat some of these foods. Try to make a list of things that go down easily but that also contain protein and nutrients. That list can help keep you from dumping, and might help get your nutrition up. I am only 8 months postop, but don't eat meat with other foods. Meat is a meal by itself, and that is ok! The idea that you can only eat, what, an ounce? That's the problem. How much yogurt or cottage cheese can you eat?
  7. So I had my sleeve done 11/6. I am on a liquid stage right now. Had to go out to any event to Celebrate my son's birthday and were around family that did not know I had surgery. I had Soup and then tried to eat a few bites of mashed potatoes so that it appeared I was eating like everyone else. I was only able to eat three bites of mashed potato. I'm just wondering once I get to real food next month. Is there going to be a point where I'm going to be able to eat an amount that is not so noticeable that everyone's gonna ask why only take five bites of food ? I'm just wondering if it's always only going to be a few bites of food or what? I want to eventually be able to go out and have normal social life without all the questions or why I'm not eating? So that's my only concern. For now obviously just being on shakes and yogurt etc. i'm already down 20 pounds since my surgery date. Still doesn't really feel good to eat yogurt even then I do better with just liquids. I go back to work this week and I feel fine other than that. I've been able to get up and walk around and be active almost since the first few days I've been home. So no complaints here. More just questions about the future. Happy that I will never be able to sit down with a huge plate of food And eat til my stomach hurts. Just knowing that makes me much more sure about my future. Making better choices and this tool helping for portion size it's really a win-win. Now I'm approaching this three-week stall keep hearing about but I have no complaints 20 pounds even for one month it's nothing to complain about. So far every day still more and more weight is gone. My doctor told me last Friday that that weight loss would slow down but I've lost another 3 pounds since then. Cheers to that!
  8. It amazes me how everyone is given different guidelines....for me I was given for weeks 1-3 I'm allowed...geek yogurt, applesauce, sf pudding, sf jello, sf popsicles, scrambled eggs, peanut butter, oatmeal (thinned out), cream of wheat, refriedbeans, melted cheese, puréed meats, and strained soups, mashed potatoes...I'm sure I'm missing something but is that strange?
  9. 70-80 grams a day is what I was told I have a protein drink for breakfast you can mix it with skim milk or soy or make it into a smoothie using Greek yogurt protein mix and fresh fruit according to what stage your at or PB2 and some sugar free flavoring that's all good for about 25-35 gms mu nut says that's a good start for a long time even for life if you weren't a breakfast eater you just need to look for higher protein fish tuna low fat cheeses beans etc who would have thought a string cheese would be lunch

    No food

I am a super picky, finicky, whiny eater who hated everything already, and it only got worse after surgery. These are some of the things I do to get protein: Fairlife milk (lactose/sugar filtered out, protein/calcium added) mixed with diet hot cocoa mix or sugar free strawberry syrup String cheese Small amounts of vanilla Protein powder mixed with sugarfree vanilla pudding cottage cheese mixed with a tiny amount of tomato sauce (tastes like pasta/lasagna) plain greek yogurt mixed with sugar free strawberry syrup so it tastes more like regular strawberry yogurt rather than that bitter/sour flavor Now that I've been cleared for normal foods again, it honestly isn't changing much since I can't tolerate dense meats and Proteins. I have however bought my first pack of low-carb, high protein chips/pretzels/cereal (10g protein per pack), which I'll try and pack with me when I'm at school/work so I don't completely starve myself. It sucks when your tolerance for most things are low, you've just gotta find things that work for you.

  12. Hi Kero! I soo wrote the same sort of post you wrote just like 1.5 months ago. I was banded on June 7/07. I am having a rough time with the post op stuff..just waiting for thr 1st fill. All you have to think when doing the pre op diet..."I have to do this....I dont have a choice...I can only eat what they said....I dont want to screw this up" Thats what I said all the time. Gosh I was getting to the point I was scared the fruit in my yogurt was to big. It all worked out. For me the pre op was pretty easy. Actually I am having a hard time with food right now and back to over eating that I put myself back on the pre op until my 1st fill!
  13. keep busy, really!@!!! occupy yourself, stay out of the kitchen. Eat what they tel you to, its for a good reason (shrinking your liver) and your Better health and a SUCCESSFUL UNEVENTFUL Surgery...sojust keep you mind on the ultimate goal l.... of permanent weight los... you can do ANYTHING for 2 weeks,,, remember cramming for exams???? that sucked too! but you did it.... SO get creative with the yogurt, freeze it, slush it, eat it with chopsticks,, popsicles (SF), boullion is not that bad change up the flavors... MY Fav. is cottage cheese with sweetner and cinnamon!!!! Last night at my preop semi. i met a guy who puts Mustard in his cottage cheese.. and its it that way... do whatever works.!!! BE WELL
  14. I was banded at TLBC June 8th 2006 and have already reached goal. The best advice I can offer is follow instructions.....Lapbandtalk can offer simple suggestions through experience, however.....when it comes to advice about fills, staying on liquid or other diets, etc...then talk to your Dr....they know best. I have never had an issue with TLBC...they treated me well and professional at all times, I had no complication pre or post surgery. My husband is a chef. I do not like cottage cheese so for the pre-op diet my husband was mixing 1/2 cup low fat yogurt with 1/2 cup low fat cottage cheese, 1/2 cup of ice cubes, 1 package of sweetner and liquified it through the blender...every day he would add different flavourings...such as 1 - 2 tablespoons of sugar free jam, or 1 tablespoon of plain cocoa powder, 1 teaspoon of real vanilla, etc. It was like drinking liquid cheesecake! Don't say you can't take the pre-op for 14 days....it will be tough but think of your priorities.....1) not following instructions and compromising your surgery....or 2) weight loss from your surgery which will bring you better quality of a longer life that would otherwise be compromised from your obestiy. I took the second choice and am now enjoying life as I never knew it....I also wear a size 8.....from a 24/26. Good luck Carol

    Struggling

I had my surgery 4 days ago and have been wanting food too. It seems to me it is just the habit of eating as I am not hungry. So far I have found anything really cold in not sitting well. This morning I had decaf coffee with cremora and was fine until 20 m later when I started sipping on a protein shake. Threw it all up. then later for lunch. threw up more protein shake. The rest of the day I have kept down, chicken broth, water with crystal light, sugar free jello and premier protein clear drink with no problem. I think maybe I need to wait another day before I start the the yogurt and pudding. Although I did drink some ensure at the hospital with no problems. I most certainly have to take small sips and I cannot imagine trying to chug anything, I was afraid to drink the cup of barium for the upper gi they did after the hospital. Dont feel bad for yourself. The first day after I was so sorry I did this but that is changing. Ive been keeping myself busy talking to family, watching TV, taking some walks around the house and yard and playing solitaire. One day at a time.

    I'm Ready.. I'm Ready!

Just a couple more days... I am sooo anxious to get started on the new me! I will head to Dallas Thursday and my surgery is scheduled for 8:30 Friday morning. Pre-op diet is not too terribly bad... :w00t: first couple days left me with a migraine, but that is gone now. Went shopping last night for lots of high protein foods, juices, yogurts, sugar free stuff..yada yada. Just wanted to get a quick post in before things get too crazy around here.
  19. I am about 16 days out and must say that until 4 days ago, I was feeling extra extra week, with brain fog. I was taking in Protein and losing weight at a good clip but the fatigue and cramps in my calf muscle. Today I am feeling better and the changes I made in the my routin are as following: 1) I read an article on Iron and fatigue and the association with Vitamin C so I have attached that article with the post if you wish to read. I am have started taking chewable iron supplements. 2) I switched from drinking broth and sodium laden Soups from the grocery isle to making my own indian style lentils (toor daal OR moong daal many varities in Indian Grocery stores--will post my recipe soon). I blend it with Water and a hard boiled egg (or just chew the hard boiled egg pieces really well) and 1 cup of greek yogurt (19g of protein). So the cup of lentil Soup blended with egg and i cup of greek yogurt is plenty of protein for the meal. 3) I make DARN sure that I take at least 80 ounces of water. 4) Add one banana to the two protein smoothies I have in a day (so two bananas and two whey protein scoops in the whole day) 5) My multivitamins made me nauseous so I switched to my children's flintstones and they seem to not make me nauseous although I do need to chew more pills So far my weight loss is still on track and the fatigue is down by 50% or more. I am sharing this experience with everybody and hope this helps. Just wanted to share. Anemia Following Weight Loss Surgery (2) (1).pdf

do you like Indian and chicken?

here is something I like that my mom makes... * Marinate chicken cubes in some yogurt, curry powder (I actually use garam masala.. but curry powder is a good substitute), salt (and some lime juice if you like) for about 20 minutes.. (my mom marinates a batch and freezes it..) * the marinade will have to cover the chicken fully.. * saute some chopped onions (1 part onions for 2 parts chicken) with a little oil (or a pam greased pan).. (you can also add some green peppers if you like them) * once the onions are translucent.. add the chicken, and cover the pan over a medium/low flame.. with an ocational stir.. and chicken should be ccooked in about 15 minutes.. * I add some green peas once the chicken is almost cooked.. let me know if you like it.. i can note down more from my mom.. edit... the marinade also needs some ginger and garlic paste..

How many grams should I have?

Well, 1000-1200 is also my target range for calories. I also end up with a bit of constipation from not getting in enough fiber, and I usually deal with that by mixing a little bran Cereal into some yogurt. Right now I'm not really targeting a certain protein/fat/carb ratio. I always choose lowfat or nonfat foods & lean meats, so I let it take care of itself. Same with carbs -- most of my carbs come from fruits, veggies, Beans and dairy. When I do choose to eat a bit of bread or rice, it's whole grain. Prior to banding, I had a doc tell me I should be aiming for 40/30/30- 40% carbs, 30% Protein, 30% fat. That's essentially The Zone diet, I think, and there are proponents of that ratio all over the place. At 1200 cals, though, that puts us at 90g of protein a day, which is a tad high I think. US RDA is more like 50g, at least for my height and target weight. For your height & target weight, it's about 58 g. With those workouts you might find 1200 cals a day is even too low. I'm pretty close in height & weight to you and dropping 2 lbs a week eating between 1000-1200, and I only get in about a half an hour of moderate exercise about 4-5 times a week.

    Food intake. Things change.Help?

Bobby..The only thing you may notice is your weight loss may not be as good as it could be if you were to eat solids. One thing my Dr. tells me is if Iam relying liquids and soft foods like yogurts, puddings etc.. then Iam too tight and need a slight unfill. Liquid calories & soft foods can kill a bandsters weight loss...The liquids and soft foods go right through the band and all it does is make you hungry quicker. Be careful, watch your caloric intake on all of those liquid calories and yogurts & smoothies. This is not what the band was designed for..maybe you should consider a slight unfill .2cc's can make a huge difference in allowing you to eat solids. Im sure a meal replacement is as healthy as a chicken breast but the question should be will the meal replacement that goes right through your band curb your hunger for as long as that chicken breast sitting in your pouch for hours will? If the liquids go right through, wont you want another meal replacement sooner which is only more calories? If it were me I would be going in for a slight unfill..to live on liquids and meal replacements is not why I got the band . Best Wishes
