    Skin??

There will be loose skin bc of how rapid the weight loss is. Start exercising and weight training as soon as you get cleared to. Also, lotion lotion lotion. Keep your skin moisturized. Other than that the rest is genetics...some people have great elasticity and others not. My skin is loose but I didn’t weight train right away...wish I did. I am now. I’m 44 as well. But ill take the loose skin over how big I got any day!!

    October 2018 Sleevers

Congrats to you as well! It feels nice to be so close to goal but still doesn't feel real. I am a conversion from Lapband and my weight was never this low and still cannot wrap my mind around it. So my advice as far as plastic surgery.....Research, Research, Research....I have been looking into this for awhile because I knew at some point I would have it done, I didn't think it would be 9 months after surgery. I knew, no matter what, I wanted a tummy tuck and breast lift. On top of being up and down with so much weight, I have also had two pregnancies and breast fed both babies. My boobs a huge flat saggy pancakes that hang to my belly button. I thought I would have my boobs done first, then tummy tuck but I decided, after several consults with different doctors, I am going to do both together. I am also a candidate for an arm lift, inner thigh lift, and lower body lift, I said no **** lllllllll......Those are not my priorities in any way and not sure I would ever consider them...I just knew I wanted my belly and boobs...They are awful in my opinion so I will do both together, which typically both are done together if people want both, no safety issue for having to have two surgeries....

I have BC/BS Fep too. I’m really nervous for submission because of being on the low BMI side. Only 35.5/36. I have 2 co morbidities (Hypertension and Severe Osteoarthritis in my knee). My surgeon said he feels pretty confident I will have no issue with my insurance and those issues for approval but I’m doubtful. He said BC/BS is one of the better ones for approvals too. I’m sorry you got denied GTGirl. But fight the insurance on it. You’ll get it.
  5. 50yo and was sleeved on 2/6/19. Even though it hasn’t even been 2 months yet, I’m feeling great about the whole thing. Pre-op was exactly how I thought it would be, and I have no hospital horror stories. I knew going in that this was going to be something I had to work to get through so I was super-motivated from the moment I was taken back to my room to get drinking and moving. In fact, after about a half hour visit with my family right after they got me to my room, I kicked them all out because I had work to do and was serious about it. Was released the next day and never took one single pain pill beyond the first few hours post op. Okay, so my abs were sore, but I’d just had abdominal surgery. I just knew it was something I had to put up with for a few days and then the discomfort was hardly there. Started walking a couple miles a day 3 days post-surgery. Flew cross country to my nephews wedding 17 days post. Went back to work 20 days post. Started Pilates 3 weeks post. Transitioned from liquids to purées, to solids when I was supposed to and each time the transition went smoothly. Each week I learn something new about my new stomach (2 weeks ago was the epiphany that it won’t kill me if I skip breakfast bc my sleeve is pretty tight in the morning) and even though I had a stall starting on day 12 that lasted for 20 days, I’ve still lost 31 pounds in the last 7.5 weeks. I’ve already moved down 2 clothing sizes and it is sooooooo much easier to move and live in my body than it was 2 months ago. I still have 60-70 pounds til I’m at goal weight, and just the difference in how I feel from losing the first 30 pounds makes me so excited for the next few months. That feeling overcomes any negative feelings that “missing out” on food might give me. Every day I ask myself if I would do it again and the answer is always yes.

I have BC, and needed Either a diagnosis of Morbid Obesity OR obesity with 2 co morbidities, such as Diabetes and severe sleep apnea. Without those 2 co-morbities they won't approve you at a low BMI. I'm sorry you're going thru this. I know it is really discouraging. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  7. I have meet all requirements for the bypass surgery however BC requires a diagnosis code of Morbidly obese even though I dont fall under that based on my BMI. I fall in the Obese with a co morbidity. Anyone else have this problem and what diagnosis code did you use. So frustrated. Its been a year. Ive done all the preliminary work I just need the approval for the surgery. So ready to move forward.
  8. I really don't get that requirement like if we could lose weight on our own we wouldn't be having surgery and obviously they can see your struggles with weight and your co-morbidities.. no diet has worked before why will it now...... So glad in Australia all I've had to do was see Dr then surgeon then Dietician then have surgery... No silly weight loss plans or psychological BS...

Six months post-op+ : The Sophomores Thread

I think i said it like 3847÷8=9×8÷7÷7×5113 before but i feel like the exact same person just in a smaller package now. And not even kidding. Some small mods like i have less patience for BS... But I'm ok with the same old me.
  10. Thanks for the support guys. I guess these types of dreams are fairly common occurrences. They never told us about these during those pre-op meetings and classes. I guess I am really happy where I am and where things are going that losing this would be just awful. Even when I lost weight in the past, in the back of my mind I knew it would eventually come back (since that's how it's always been for me as an adult). This has to be the time that it stays off!!! As bad as it was looking morbidly obese, the feeling of having no control over myself and feeling like crap all the the time. I had issues sleeping because breathing ward hard when I laid down. I would often sleep sitting up like a bear. Living with diabetes sucked in so many ways. I had issues with ED because of it (and the meds I took for it). I had gastroparesis due to neuropathy in my stomach. Heart disease. I was 44 and I felt like I was 70. Last year when I met with my cardiologist after my 44th birthday, he was really worried for me (not in that BS way that some doctors have when they feel obligated to read us the riot act). He was sweet as sugar but he told me that based on my blood work, stress test etc. and family history, if I don't make a major change right now I will probably have my first major heart attack in the next five years. I CAN'T ever live like that again!!!! I owe it to my wife and kids to be super healthy Dad--not fat dad that will be dead before they are in high school.
  11. Congratulations and best of luck! I have nothing to add but wanted to say congrats and best wishes! (And as others have said, ignore the rude jerk...of course a dude wants to weigh in on taking contraception bc he knows SO much about it...lol)

    Last weigh in

Second timer ?? Do you mean that you had the op already and are now going for it a second time ?? Did it not work the first time ?? Sorry if I sound ignorant but I'm in Ireland and the procedure is only recently generally available. I'm thinking strongly of having it done - but my daughter is sooo against it. To me, nothing tastes as good as skinny feels !!! I have a neurological illness which has caused my overweight and I'm so fed up with slimming clubs and diets that I want to have Bariatric surgery and just get on with it. What would others advise ..... Do any of you regret having the surgery ??

    Stall frustration....

Hi there, First off, you can't compare your progress to others. The fact is, if you weren't training hard, you'd probably be losing more weight on the scale--but you wouldn't see it on your body the same way. The scale is BS-just an easy metric to track. You should be more focused on losing inches--which is really the whole point anyway. As long as that's happening (as you said), you're doing the right things. The weight loss on the scale will eventually catch up. Second, you may want to get a body fat monitor, like the handheld one that Omicron makes. I have only lost 3.5 pounds in the past month, but I lost 1.5 inches off my waist and 1.8% of my body fat. I don't consider that a stall by any means. If you want to experiment with increasing your calories or changing up your diet by cutting down on carbs or increasing the amount of healthy fat you're eating (something along those lines), you might give your body a little kickstart by confusing it. Bottom line is you lost 137 pounds since last June. That's f---ing amazing. That last few pounds are always going to be the hardest.

    Fav WLS App?

I use Baritastic and happy scale. I like happy scale bc it has a predictive feature to show how much weight you will in one week, months, etc I like baritastic bc you can input your measurements

Bc when you get liposuction it’s not from inside your abdomen. The fat inside there has a lot of vessels. When they lipo they are doing subcutaneous...they do not lipo inside the abdomen.
  16. The vets on here are giving you some really good, solid advice, I can't offer much in terms of that kind of support, but I wanted to take a minute to tell you a few things that even I CAN see. First, give yourself some grace. You are here, asking for help. NOT because you are some quitter or a failure, but because YOU ARE A FIGHTER! Second, don't let anyone make you feel like "a waste of time". f**k THAT BS!!! Go back to that a-hole Surgeon just to get the information you need and move on. Third, you are not hopeless. I really DO understand that feeling of despair, of feeling hopeless. (I suspect there are a lot of other people here who do, too.) However, I think its a lie we all tell ourselves at one time or another. You DO have hope as, even now, you are still looking for answers and working for a solution. If you are breathing you have hope. Hold on to it and don't let go. You can do this! -Sending you some peace and, hopefully, just a tiny mirror reflection of the strength you have within yourself that even this stranger can see. ❤️

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Re alcohol: There were many nights hubs and I would kill a bottle of wine between the 2 of us. On the weekend, it was “normal” for us to kill the bottle of wine plus a bottle of bourbon. Or Rum. Or vodka. And I never used mixers. I was a “neat” gal. In all honesty, I’m scared to death to try to consume liquor at all because while I’m in this honeymoon phase, I just can’t second-guess any of my choices. If I hit a stall, it will be because my body stalled— not because I stretched my sleeve with food and drink. I don’t want to ever play the “what if” game if I only lose 50-60 pounds by the time this is over. I’ve sworn off alcohol for 6 months and maybe longer depending on my progress. Hubs is on board with me on this which almost guarantees sainthood. It’s tough bc there are times where I think I miss it, but I’m also wearing a pair of pants that haven’t seen the outside of my closet for 3 years so there’s that

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Dubchild I'm 3 1/2 weeks post surgery, lost 19 lbs. I have a group of friends who we get together once or so a month for a few beers, wings, watch the game and generally BS. As you can see from the various posts doctors orders vary widely. From reading posts from other threads it is apparent that many men are able to have a occasional drink. I would check with your surgeon and explain the situation. My plans are to try a lite beer in a few months, I'm more concerned about the carbonation rather than the alcohol content as most of the light beers have minimal alcohol content. With the wings peel off the skin and enjoy one or two, with both moderation is key. Until a few months pass I would simply say to the guys that you have been on a doctor ordered diet and no booze right now. Make use there is some non carb drink to enjoy. People aren't going to count how many wings or drinks you are having. Rest assured the best is yet to come, don't miss the good times- just make a plan. Congratulations on your success! Curiously I believe that you, Marine, and I are the only men in the feb group.

    Constipation

Mostly just regular stool. Sometimes a little running but that is prob bc I may have tried to drink up my coffee too fast(I put a scoop in my coffee) as it’s unflavored. They make it in a creamer now that comes in coconut and vanilla flavoring but I use the unflavored bc I can add it to anything to give me more protien. It has made a huge diff. Constipation after the sleeve was my biggest annoyance. Felt bloated, felt heavier on the scale and it just feels uncomfortable. Another friend who was sleeved told me about this and I am so thankful for it! Plus you get a serving of protein. 2 scoops are 18 grams of protein,20 grams of collagen. Hope this info helps you. It really worked for me

    ❤MARCH 2019 CHALLENGE❤

    23) an untruthful story I tell myself? I guess I’m going to have to give this one some thought. I really do try to nail myself with any bs or negative thinking but also not get into a place where I’m complacent or think I’ve got it all figured out. 🤷🏻‍♀️

    March Bypass Buddies

Had my surgery 3/18. VSG to rny and hiatal hernia repair. Doc initially said up to 6 hours bc of scar tissue. Went in earlier than expected bc the first person canceled. He completed everything in 3.5 hours. He left a drain in me in case of leaks. I went home on Wednesday. Immediately gas was an issue. Felt like someone was hammering my shoulders from the inside. That first day I got up and sat and went the the bathroom. I was able to sip a lot of water with no issue. Also no GERD at all!!! Miracle!! Following day I was still in a lot of pain but walked more and drank more sips. Same with Wednesday. I’m still in a ton of pain at home but I am drinking well getting in about 50-60 oz of water and yesterday did 40grams of protein, today I did 50 grams. I’m on a clear liquid (broth & premier allowed) until next Friday; if I’m doing well they will advance my diet and take out my drain. The incision pain is terrible it feels like someone is throwing hot oil on my skin on one that is at my waist and the one where the drain is feels like a cramp. But I was sent home with tramadol and oxycodone and Tylenol and they help tremendously. I can’t bend at the waist and am super duper slow but I’m voiding well, and my drainage is less and less everyday. I gained 13lbs in water weight and am down 9lbs so far. Started at 241 day of surgery, when I came home I was 254, today I am 245. My protein is coming from collagen peptides dissolved in tea or vitamin water zero, Lono bone broth packet and Premier. I haven’t had an bm’s yet, drank some smooth move tea today but nothing yet and am also taking a stool softener. I have no appetite, no desire to eat, actually kind of grossed out watching my husband eat. Hopefully I can use that to my advantage. Hope all the other 3/18ers did well!!!
  23. mousecat88

    Yup. I regret this.

I just feel discouraged because I am impatient and have 64 more lbs to lose and don't feel like it's going to happen. And I will be super disappointed if it doesn't. Especially after all the BS.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Smart to tell you to aim for over 80 ounces water. Since surgery, I’ve been battling orthostatic hypotension, but my blood pressure in general is just fine. I have noticed this week that it hasn’t been as bad as weeks past, but I’ve also been retaining fluid in my ankles and feet, which is weird bc I’ve probably had over 96 ounces today.
