    Still waiting...

I went to see my hematologist last week, and did her tests. The tests came back and based on my understanding of the results, I only need a low dose of Coumadin post-op. yay! I've submitted my update to the dietitian, showing that I'm closer to meeting the guideline. I had a fun moment over the weekend. My nephew and I were sitting on opposite ends of the sofa on Saturday night. There were tons of bonfires and gatherings around the neighborhood. We were sitting there quietly, me playing on my iPhone and he was on his computer. Being funny I sent him a text challenging him to a dance-off on Just Dance. Without speaking, we got up, moved the furniture, and started up the Xbox. I love that game. We played for over an hour. I came close to beating him on one song... however, he stomped me on the rest of the songs. I still need to work up the courage to do the zumba games. As of today, I've been off soda, carbonation, and caffeine a week. In other news, I've lost enough weight to get back into some of my summer work blouses. They are a little snug, but they fit. I was so excited that I wore a blouse and slacks to the office today, however, the blouse is worn under a sweater, to help mask the bulging buttons at the belly. I was informed that I was looking pretty spiffed up and asked what the special occasion was. I was tempted to say something to the effect that I could fit back into the clothes. Instead, it was 'no reason, just felt like it'. I don't discuss my personal stuff at work. I can't wait until I hear back from the doc's office about setting an appointment with the surgeon.
  2. I can hardly believe that the surgery is 3 weeks from today. It will be about 3 months after I started this whole thing, and as long as I stay on track, I will have lost 25-30 lbs prior to surgery. That, in and of itself, is unheard of. Amazing. Last night was the worst night I've had so far. I couldn't do anything to curb my hunger, and I had a whole bunch of stuff come at me at once. I was ready to punch someone. I decided to remove myself from that situation before I exploded. I grabbed a bottle of water, my dog, and we went for a walk, despite my house being full of guests. I couldn't take it anymore and just needed to leave. As soon as we were out walking, I burst into tears. I was so hungry, so frustrated, so upset. I was thankful that the darkness outside could mask my tears a bit. We kept walking until I had calmed down. Everyone who was at the house had left or was in bed by the time I returned. I love my family, but I can't stand them at times. I haven't been entirely open with them about everything that is going on, but it would be nice if they could try to understand the boundaries I've given them. I wish they wouldn't look to me whenever they needed something fixed in their own lives. As one of my friend's said this morning, They always seem to look at things from their point of view, but never can look from your point if view and be understanding. Wouldn't it be nice if people could be understanding? Wouldn't it be nice if kids would understand better that their actions/words really can hurt others? Wouldn't it be nice if people didn't tease or pick on others because of what they look like or what a person can/cannot eat? I have to remind myself that there are things I can't change, I can only control/change how I respond to those things. And by going through this process, I'm making a big change in my life about how I handle things.
  3. I did it! I did it! During my initial appointment with the surgeon in July, he stated that I needed to lose another 15 lbs prior to surgery. My Pre-op appointment with him was yesterday. I've 16 lbs since my appointment with him in July, and I've been greenlighted for surgery next week. Yes, a week. I'm now at 7 days and counting. My nerves are a bundle, and my excitement is off the chart. I have lost over 30 lbs since my birthday at the end of MAY (in 3 months' time). That is crazy. No other attempt to lose weight has been this 1) consistent or 2) successful. I'm fitting back into my dress clothes that I bought last summer when I returned from working in Central America. Still need to drop another 50 lbs to be pre-knee injury/surgery weight... but I'm getting there. I now have less than 200 lbs before I hit my goal. Sorry, my thoughts are not cohesive today. Lots of things on my mind. I start my all liquid/no solids consumption tomorrow. To do pre-surgery list: 1) start all liquids (8/22) 2) do final blood draw (8/22-8/25) 3) pre-registration call with the hospital (8/26) 4) final pre-op nurse check-in/weigh-in (8/26) 5) get my POA documentation signed/notarized/filed (8/26) 6) review/go through 24 hour pre-op checklist (8/27) 7) pack for hospital stay (8/27) 8) stop all liquids by midnight (8/27) 9) show up to hospital (8/28) My leave of absence from work has been handled. My work is being temporarily transitioned to a co-worker while I'm gone... my nephew will be taking care of the house/dog/cat while I'm gone. I should see if my trainer will get a pic of me tonight when I go workout. That would be fun to see a difference, even from a few weeks ago. Waiting it the worst... patience is not my forte... sigh.

Soul searching in the 10th hour...

i'm just three days out of surgery, and I can't even drink all the liquid that is required. i been having headaches these past two days. I guess it's with drawl from everything lol. i was never told to do a liquid diet before surgery. I wonder why my surgeon never told me too ? I wish the best for you both. It's been only three days and i'm a grumpy whiny brat.
  5. Tomorrow will be one week since my surgery and I'm doing great for the most part. My biggest issue is wanting and needing to have a bowel movement. Ugh. I'm ready to start eating solid food again just for that! What are people taking to help with this issue?
  6. I lost weight every single day for several weeks post op. Many people actually gain "weight" after their hospital stay. But it is literally "water weight". They pump you full of fluids before you go home to try to prevent dehydration because many of us have SO much trouble getting all our fluids in the first few days. In 99% of the time I say follow Drs advice it is for a reason. That is probably the reason. You definitely want to weigh at least once a week. By the time you are a week out much of that extra fluid should have come off. I weighed every morning for weeks or possibly months on end, and it was a really fun ride. I'm 9 months out and only losing 1-2 lbs per week now, but very happy with the resultS[emoji4]

    2015 Crossfit Open

@@ProjectMe - check to see if the Crossfit gym near you has a beginners class. My box, has what they call an "On Ramp" class. They meet twice a week for a month, to learn the basic lifts, different equipment, positions, terms etc. I found this so very helpful when I started, to go into a regular WOD with a bit more knowledge! Best of luck - it becomes addicting but oh so very rewarding!! When you go - let me know how it goes!
  10. Alright friends, I failed to prepare, so I was preparing to fail, and need some guidance/help. I went to a wedding today about a 4 hour drive (in the sticks), and thought I was prepared by bringing a premixed protein shake and a small container of soup. I am about a week post op (ESG), so on a full liquid diet. I left both in my car while I went to the ceremony, social time and cocktail hour, planning to sneak away at various times to have a sip. Time flew by, much socializing occurred, and before I knew it, the soup had spoiled and the protein shake was also undrinkable. At that point, I was absolutely starving and within an hour (once dinner was served), I was dizzy and shaking, even with sips of water. I was worried about my well-being since I had to drive home later in the dark, so I had a few bites of soft sweet potato and tender meat, very very well chewed. I felt less lightheaded and made it back home safely, but feel truly terrible and worried that I messed up my stitches/sutures. Can anyone provide any support? Any idea if that was enough to mess me up? I have been doing so well and am still motivated to stay on track, but I am anxious. My tummy aches a little but it has been aching after basically everything I “eat” except water. Thank you.
  11. I called yesterday on a whim and my acceptance letters were sent out that same day. I could do the procedure pretty quickly but it seems that I have to have someone there with me and someone has to watch my kids. I have to be at the center at 5am and the hourly daycare center does not open till 8am. I am from minnesota so I dont have any family here in texas! Talk about obsticles! My husband is an offshore diver and is on call 24/7 so having him home on exactly the right time is only half my problem. I think I really need to find a babysitter in houston who is willing to be at by place at 4:30 in the morning LOL. I figure I might have to wait till the first week of january for when my mom is planning a visit and between now and then I can work out who can watch my kids. In the meantime, i need to sort through and get prepared for what is coming. I keep hearing that I will loose my hair and I am really interested to hear when that happens and how bad it is and can it be prevented. I suppose it will grow back, I am more interested in being about to shop off the sale rack at target in regular size clothes than what my hair will look like for a while. I get to be skinny again. I am so thrilled. So, if you read this far, *applause* and thanks. If you ahve any tricks or words of wisdom, or can give me any ideas of what to expect and what could make life easier between now and my surgury as well ass what I can do w=once I get home. Great big thanks, everyone!

    Ankle Surgery

Unfortunately today I had to get my second ankle surgery of the year, the first surgery I had back in January for my ankle it fixed my original problem but started a new one. The new problem was that there was a build up of cartilage in between my ankle joint and there was also a pinched nerve, So today in surgery they did an arthroscopy and cleaned out all the cartilage and cut the pinched nerve which means I will not have feeling on the one side of my ankle but the pain will not be there so I am not complaining!! I had surgery at about 7:30 this morning and got home around 11 so my pain was very high but I think I am slowly getting it under control it's just really hard to get comfy in bed since I cant lay my ankle certain ways! On a positive note this surgery will not affect the date of my weight loss surgery since there is enough time between them to heal from this one and get the anesthia out of my system. Also for the next two weeks I will have to give myself shots in the stomach to reduce my risk for blood clots since I have had a history of getting them. anyone who has had these shots before know how bad they burn so I am really not looking forward to it these next two weeks!! Then as soon as get off them I'll have to do them again for the weight loss surgery! Hopefully I won't have to do them as long for that surgery! Well today's entry photo is a lovely picture of my orange wrapped leg! Also here is what I ate and am going to eat today since I am doing this entry super early! Breakfast: nothing since I couldn't eat before surgery Lunch: - Bagel - Cream cheese Snack: - Pretzels - String cheese Dinner: - Spaghetti - Turkey meatballs
  13. Hi, Chris, I am literally just starting the process. I have an appointment with my doctor this coming Thursday. I lurked here for weeks before I even joined and I can tell you that I have found a warm and loving reception here, not to mention all the information available. Good luck to you, and I hope the time flies until June! Debbie

    NEWBIE

So happy to hear that it will all be worth it in the end! Must feel amazing to be rid of of one third or one half of yourself! I have so may q's regarding the journey, if you guys could give some answers it will be awesome: 1. On a scale from 1-10, what is the pain and discomfort level for the first few weeks? 2. How do you survive on 2 or 3 tablespoons of food at first? Obviously I am a food lover and dont know how I will manage this? 3. Does your social life disappear? Restaurant vistits etc? 4. Do you really have such a terrible few weeks, constantly vomiting? 5. What happens if you over eat? Is that even possible? 6. Did you see a dietician to get a meal plan? How do you decide what to eat? 7. What will it take for the band to slip? 8. Will the band get "old" inside you and have to bee replaced over 20 or 30 years? 9. Is there something I am not thinking about??? Sure closer to the time I will have loads to ask. Thank you
  15. So its been 3 months since I been banded and I must say I'm still having problems adjusting. I had to get fluid removed today because my band was too tight and I lost 15 pounds in two weeks. At this point I really don't like eating anymore and its become a chore everyday for me. I don't know how much fluid was removed or how much is left in my band and I think it's best if I don't know. But so far 30 pounds down.. .
  16. That is an awesome story! When I got home after a two day stay in the hospital, counting the surgery day, I really did not know what to do. I began to try to get in my liquids and Protein with my wife telling me what the instructions said. Slept a lot. Got my days and nights all mixed up but didn't care. Wasn't going anywhere anyway. Straight liquids all the way for the first two weeks. I felt weak and no stamina at all. Two weeks out I got dehydrated and my blood pressure got real low. Looking back I believe that is where the weakness came from. Went to check in with my primary doc and got real dizzy and they put me on an iv and got me straightened out. Been pretty careful ever since. No pain at all during this time until I got constipated at week three. Horribly painful but finally got past that with a little help. Be very careful because this is no joke. Seems to be a common problem. Four weeks out and feel pretty good. Only down 20 lbs since the surgery but from what I read on these forums, that is normal. Lots of diluted Crystal Light, popsicles, Better Than Bullion broth (low sodium). Creamed Soups. Premier chocolate Protein shakes. I was told i had to sip, sip, sip but i accidentally picked up my glass of crystal light on night and took two big swallows without thinking and had no discomfort at all. The thicker stuff causes me discomfort if I take it in too much or too fast. Some of the instructions I received when I was discharged listed what i should be eating/drinking in the first few weeks and also said "as tolerated" which I have found to mean, to me, take it slow and adjust to what is comfortable. I can definitely tell when i am close to full and I try to avaoid that feeling.
  17. I had handouts from my surgeons mandatory gastric sleeve nutrition class. At 2 weeks I went to pureed from only liquids.I eat super slow using an infant spoon(purchased at the dollar store for 12 for a dollar). I also got some 1/4 cup sized little disposable sauce type cups with lids. I put my food in those, and so far I really cannot eat more than that. I was given a whole host of written guidelines for daily protein goals and water/fluid goals. Right now I'm drinking my protein between my 2 ounce 'meals'.

    Pain When Im Hungry?

Yeah that is what I was thinking too but my nurse put me on som acid reducers and it has seem to take the pain away so I am thinking it had to do with acid and when I ate it helped so it made the pain go away. I am suppose to be on theses meds for the first 3 months but for some reason I was never given them which surprised my nurse as well. I have only been taking them for like a week now but so far so good.
  19. Honey, you are way too early to feel restriction. Just follow the doctors orders and you will be fine. Starting off at BMI of 27 will likely make you loss very slow. I would think maybe only 1 pound a week.
  20. I love to snow ski and was just wondering when you ladies who have had this combo actually felt like skiing again? The first surgeon I consulted with said that I should be good to go in 4-6 weeks. I do bounce back pretty quickly from things. I was back at work after gastric bypass in 9 days ( I don't have to do any heavy lifting). What do you ladies think? I REALLY want to get this done but I also love to ski... Please give me your opinions. THX!
  21. I was told to wait 6-8 weeks post plastics before horseback riding. I am thinking skiing is similar.
  22. Hi All Looking for some advice I had the band fitted on the 7th Feb 4 weeks ago I have followed the diet to the letter and have had no problems thus far. I have been introducing thicker foods with lumps that need chewing and I have been chewing really well. Two days ago I suffered really bad chest pain and almost a stuck feeling. I also felt really uncomfortable so I kept moving as I have read that other people find this helps. It got worse as the night went on and eventually I phoned the 24hr hot line. I got told not to worry and it was probably trapped wind and to take an antiacid and a pain killer and go to sleep. I did as I was told and it appeared to have cleared in the morning. Well untill I tried to eat! Then it came back just as bad after only a couple of spoons of porridge! I did not eat anything all day and then fortunately had an appointment with the dietician so asked her for advice. She did not have a clue as she has only been with the company a month and passed me back to the hotline who again said that it was trapped wind. I have not eaten again all day today and been sipping small amounts of Water but the pain is like someone is stood on my chest just below my bra line in the centre of my chest. There feels like a real heavy weight on my chest. Getting really worried now is there anything I should be doing? DOes anyone have any advice?:help:

  24. I spent one night in the hospital after surgery. I couldn't sleep in bed, so slept in the chair. Walked around the hospital ward a few times and had some fluids. Once I got home, I had trouble. I still couldn't lay down and spent the next 3 weeks either sleeping in the recliner or sleeping in the spare bed propped up with about 5 pillows. I had problems with nausea, even though I was on anti-nausea meds. I was maybe drinking 6-8 oz of Water a day. I tried several Protein pre-mixed drinks and powders and my Tiny tummy didn't like them. I had no energy, my vision was blurry. I knew I was in trouble. I had my husband go get me gatorade and banana popsicles. The banana popsicles are what saved me. I was only able to eat 1/2 a one every hour, but it helped. I also stopped taking the anti-nausea meds and pain meds. I still had lots of pain, but used tylenol. I also found that V-8 juice helped me and Tiny tummy liked it. I am almost 7 weeks post op and drink 64 oz water most days and eat about 700 calories a day. I try to keep my protein intake above 60 gms a day. It was a rough first 3 weeks, but very happy I got sleeved.
