Band removed and bypass sane day?
kmb1983 replied to nagrin's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I just saw a doc last week to start the revision process. He said he will remove the band and then 3-6 months later due to bypass. Guess its just doctors preferrence and scar tissue etc. I have alot of my appointments scheduled in april -
Hi Roxine thank you for sharing your journey. Glad to hear you are well on your way to recovery & a better & healthier lifestyle. I had revision bypass on March 9th. The surgery went flawless however my stomach is super swollen due to what I'm hoping is from the gas. It's a bit uncomfortable to say the least. I'm hoping the swollen goes down before I go back to work on the 19th. I fly back home from TijuanaX tomorrow where I will continue to recoup. I'm still on clear liquid diet for the next 2 weeks. I Just ordered me LonoLife Grass Fed Beef & Chicken broth from Amazon. It has 10g of protein & comes in little packets, this will surely help me get my protein in. I will start on protein broth and shakes next week this week I will continue to focus on get my fluid that includes 64 oz of water. I like to add Crystal Light to my water it makes it easier for me to drink.

Any December 2021 bypass people?
ShannonCorbin replied to mrsjo's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am having a RNY revision on Dec 13. I had my first RNY in 2010, lost about 130 lbs. I’ve gained about 40 back and have developed a hiatal hernia, so I’m getting the hernia repair and he will be further reducing my pouch and tightening my stoma. -
What Is It Really Like When You Wake Up After Surgery?
Calicolea replied to Luwanna's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I thought I was really with it right after my surgery, but my husband told me the next day I was loopy and I guess he's right because thinking back I don't remember much until I woke up in my room later that day. My stomach hurt, but I didn't have nausea or a sore throat. sleep was sporadic because the nurses were coming in all the time and it was hard to find a comfortable spot. I was glad I had a hospital bed though, I can't imagine getting up and down without those hydralics. LOL My stomach felt like I had done a gazillion crunches and the muscles were not working. I was required to stay two days and really glad I did. I think the second day is much worse than the first and it was nice to have the TLC the nurses provided. I think my hardest part has been regaining my strength and stamina. I think between surgery and the liquid diet it put a strain on my system. Not sure if it makes a difference, but my surgery was a revision and took over two hours due to scar tissue from the band, so that may make my recovery a bit longer. Having the lapband was a piece of cake..... but the revision was harder. Hope my lil story helps Best of luck on Tuesday.... you will do great!!! -
I had a Lapband for 6 years and lost only 44 lbs with it. I was constantly hungry. Went for many fills and either could still eat too much or was so tight I couldn't eat at all and had to go back to have some taken out. I completely agree with what Desertmom posted. The absolute best thing about being Sleeved is not being hungry. I'm 7 months out and have lost 110 lbs now. There really is no comparison between the two. Sadly if I were making the choice today I probably would have still gone with the band since the surgery is less invasive but I now know how wrong I would have been. The sleeve as a stand alone procedure was not an option for me in 2007. I also can't tell you how mentally and emotionally I was damaged by feeling like such a failure with the band. You can make a choice now to learn from those of us who had the band first. Read the revision message board here. There are so many of us. For the first time ever I am confident I will get to my goal which is another 42 lbs away. I feel great and my priority now is fill my time with healthy activities rather than unhealthy eating and binging, and believe me you can still binge with the band. I wish you all the best and applaud you for researching before making your final decision.

Dr. Blumenthal in Providence?
Matt Z replied to dutchamy's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I believe you mean Dr. Aaron B. Bloomenthal. I went to Dr. Beth Ryder for both my band in 2011 and my revision to bypass this past March. Dr. Bloomenthal's reviews look good. -
Sleeve revision to bypass
Beckyonthebeach replied to Colorchic's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had my revision on Thurs 4/18. Besides gas pains the first two days, I’m doing well. I am a little worried that I don’t feel the restriction I did with the sleeve at the beginning. I can drink as much as I want without any pain. -
Sleeve revision to bypass
syltx3 replied to Colorchic's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi Froufrou, I'm getting the gastric sleeve revision to gastric bypass, i'm a bit nervous, i gain most of the weight back and have had other health issues like, PCOS, arthritis in knee and diabetic along with acid re-flux. how much have you lost since the revision? was it worth it? i'm just a bit nervous. -
same here, band removed revised to a sleeve 12/10. not even a week out for me yet. after i failed to lose anything with the band (and being hungry most of the time) i felt like i was a failure. i decided to try the sleeve but also worried i'd be a failure at that. well, i have done it. i feel ok about the prospects for weight loss.

I was banded in June 2011 (NWWLS Dr. Michaelson in Everett, WA). I never was able to lose more than 20lbs. About a year ago I had finally gotten fed up with the acid reflux, stuck food, and vomiting so I had it almost all unfilled. I've gained about 30 lbs back and am above my prebanded weight now. Recently I've become very interested in getting a revision done but my insurance doesn't cover it so I've been researching Mexico Does anyone have recommendations on a surgeon? I'm also interested in the pre-op process for having it done there. What do I need to have done in the states prior to arriving in Mexico? Any advice or personal stories is appreciated.

I'm thinking about a revision...
Kimberlee1383837812 replied to sheetmetalgirl's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I personally have been through almost exactly what you're going through. Sleeved 10/2013...lost 90 lbs the first 7 months, then hit a wall. Stuck to diet & exercise...nothing! My body put back on 15 pounds even though I still stuck to strict eating! I went back to my surgeon in May 2016. We tried even stricter diet...stayed the same. I took phentermine for 3 months and only lost 3 lbs!! (Most people will lose at least 20+ in that med). So, it was inevitable....I opted revision. I had my surgery 11/9...had a bleeding complication the next day and ended up in the hospital a week and had 4 blood transfusions. Healing now &. on track. Lost 19 lbs, but have been stalled for 6 days!!! Frustrating. I never stalled with my sleeve. I guess I'd suggest trying what I did with your doctor and seeing if anything else can help you while making the decision to revise. Everyone will tell you eat better, exercise more, do a pouch test, do back to basics, etc...all good intentions but not the answer when you know what you've tried. Good luck to you!!! -
I actually can relate. I had my band emptied and I still can't eat most foods like salad or Proteins that are not drenched in some sauce or dressing. Right now as I type this I have Hard boiled egg stuck I my band...it's always been an issue since I had it placed in 2007. I am currently in process of going through revision to RNY due to insufficient weight loss and heartburn. I still have to go through all of the insurance requirements same as first time around. We will be submitting to insurance in about 2 weeks so will see if I get approval. Insurance does need to see you have been compliant with the post op requirements etc. I would start looking into it more.

Reviewing Mds In Mexico And Facilities
SylviaMom replied to skane10's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I'm scheduled with Dr. Aceves too. He seems to be the 'go to' doctor for revisions ( I am a lap to sleeve) and has a great track record. The hospital he works with is a full service hospital with an ICU and emergency center which is one of the reasons why he stood out for me. Also, Nina the coordinator is very responsive and wonderful. -
1 month out from surgery and having regrets
Foxbins replied to Latanya's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had my revision on 6/29. Chicken, even with my sleeve, was always a difficult protein for me to get down. Have you tried a softer protein? Tuna with light mayo? Egg salad? Ground pork in spaghetti sauce? Maybe try something else besides chicken. I can eat most things now at nine weeks post-op. -
Am I doomed to fail? Is the sleeve right for me?
JamieLogical replied to OldMomOf3's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm not clear on which surgery you had. Sounds like band revised to sleeve? But you mention bypass as well.... Anyway, when you say 2-3 cups of food at a meal, what kind of food and how long does it take for you to eat it? -
Looking To Start The Gastric Bypass Buddy Threads
LosingItForMe2011 replied to LosingItForMe2011's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hello KB I haven't had my surgery.....I had to restart the process. I had my lapband removed 2/2010 and went back to that surgeon in Oct 2011 for gastric bypass but, after talking with my PCP she wants me to see the bariatric group involved with her practice. So started the process back up. Attended my seminar on 3/12 and now seeing the surgeon and psych therapist on 3/29 to get the ball rolling. I was told this is still considered revision surgery so will go quicker than someone who hasn't had the lapband or gastic prior. That got me excited and I can't wait to get started. Did you get the date of your surgery today? -
Can You Eat Salad, Vegetables And Fruits With The Gastric Sleeve?
CowgirlJane replied to Jesusislove's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The band did not work well for me at all. I have posted about this lots and my intentioin is not to bash it, but to truthfully share my story which was less than stellar weight loss which was regained when I could no longer tolerate fill in my band due to reflux. It was a nightmare physically, and beat me down even further emotionally as I felt like such a failure. I felt alot of shame and embarrassment. I too had a terrible fear of lifelong reflux post sleeve. I spent months thinking about it. My health and quality of life at over 300# was going down hilll fast though so at some point I had to accept the "risk" of untreatable reflux versus 100% chance of early death with a side trip through disability which was the path I was on. Anyway, I will be 3 years out from revision come December, I don't take a PPI (I did first several months post op) and so far, no reflux. Keeping fingers crossed. What about revising directly to the bypass if you have a family history of reflux type disease? -
I'm 60. Anyone else over 50 doing RNY?
claricey replied to Pam Peltz's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I’m 53 and scheduled for revision sleeve to bypass on 3/11 (pending insurance approval, of course). Peri-menopause/menopause has made this struggle even more “fun”! I’m very optimistic! -
Revision from sleeve to bypass
lljenkins replied to lions92's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had sleeve to bypass revision on 11/29/2021. The first day and the second day in the hospital I had a GERD episode. It’s still early postop but I haven’t felt it anymore. I pray it’s all fixed. That was the reason for the surgery. -
I'm 60. Anyone else over 50 doing RNY?
JRT Mom replied to Pam Peltz's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm 65 and I'm getting a 10 year old failed lap band revised to a RNY in November. I was worried about my age but my doctor isn't too concerned about it other than having me get a cardiac clearance done in addition to the medical one. -

momlambert replied to Pam Peltz's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Maybe I am the oldest! I'm 63 and had surgery 12-10-12. I actually had revision from band to RNY and had a few complications with the band removal, but even so I was only in the hospital for 4 days. A week after I was released I went to a Christmas party at work. I couldn't eat anything but was glad I went even though I was really tired afterward. I worked off and on during the holidays and went back full time on January 2. I've lost abt 36 lbs. not a lot compared to some but I'm happy I took this step. BTW, there is a forum called something like age specific GBS or something like that. It hasn't been very active but u might want to check it out and post there. I'm subscribed to it. Good luck! Stay in touch. -
Poll: What did you do after your Band removal?
dishdiva replied to fabfatgrl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I haven't visited you guys here in FOREVER! I had my band removed in 2006 after two slips and after initially gaining back 20 (give or take) pounds, I decided I would not have gone through all of this only to end up back where I started -- 100 pounds overweight! I slowly, over two years, averaging a loss of a miserable one-half pound a week, lost 40 pounds. Quit dieting. Changed my eating habits (less carbs and sugar, more protein) for life and lots of exercise. I have maintained the loss for a year. I have no regrets about getting the band -- it jump started my weight loss (and gets credit for 20 pounds gone) and gave me a glimpse of what life is like without being so overweight! I know it's obnoxious to hear this, but if I can do it, anyone can! There is life after lap band removal. GO GET 'EM. Elizabeth lap band placed 8/03 revision due to slip 3/05 removed due to slip 2 3/06 total weight loss, give or take a few: 65 pounds...20 to goal. YAY ME! -
I had a band to sleeve revision. Aside from the weight issue. I just knew I couldn't live the rest of my throwing up & sliming every day. The chances are you will have to have the band out at some point in your life. Probably better now when you're younger than later. I don't regret it at all even though my weightloss has been extremely slow. I would tell your husband you need his support because he's the most important person in your life. Your life partner.

I had the bypass done for several reasons. The biggest one was for the diabetes. Bypass is the only surgical procedure that can be considered a cure for diabetes versus a control. Secondly the acid reflux which was a huge problem for me and it's now gone. Third it has a better long term success rate than the sleeve. There were many people in my classes getting revisions on their sleeves which kind of turned me off. Good luck which ever way you go!

Hi London! I'm in East Orlando too! what kind of revision are you having done? Who is your surgeon?
