    Revision?

Oh...and NO, you should not even be saying the word revision at this point unless you are working on a paper for class.

    Revision?

I was revised from a lap band to bypass Oct 26th. Weight loss has been fast and furious. It was a tough surgery and I am still black and blue and pretty sore.
  3. It's nice to have another revision here to bounce things off of. I'm also tracking on myfitnesspal, if you want to friend me there my name is catlynk there too, and Yes, lunch meat section is where they were
  4. Amboyd, I too was a band to sleeve revision on 10/5. I stalled for nearly three weeks even though I was walking nearly every day for about 30 min and calorie intake no more than 800 a day. I was very frustrated to say the least! (I even noticed a two pound gain during that stall) I have my next four week check up is tomorrow and I'm not getting on my scale until I have been weighed by the surgeons office scale. My husband had not seen me since surgery until this past friday and he could tell I had lost weight, and I for the first time could see it too. So hang in there, I think because we are revisions our starting weight loss is slower.
  5. Welcome Barbara! Congrats on your revision surgery and thanks for sharing your story!

    Revision?

How many calories per day are you eating? I learned I have to eat around 800/day to lose. I still find that to be absurd and almost unbelievable, but it's my truth. And while it's good and recommended to exercise, it's had minimal impact on my weight loss. One other thing - my surgeon won't do revisions for people who don't lose, or lose and gain weight back. He says its not going to help. But,yes, you are in control of you, and you CAN do this!

    Revision?

Revision at three months? Stop that. Two facts to work with here: You did lose weight post-surgery and you're very upset about gaining. Solution: Figure out what changed and why and be honest about your direct contributions to it. Let's call it 'womaning up,' the first step to taking charge. If you think that what's coming is a "bad" message, it's because I'm working from "bad" information, i.e., none or whitewashed. I'm not at all unsympathetic. I get that you're feeling let down and are even freaking, but you'll get nowhere if you're not absolutely honest with yourself. WLS and the follow-through are grown-up matters.. I've been around the WLS scene long enough and am old enough and enough of an observer of human behavior and enough theaters to recognize tap-dancing. Your expectations have been unrealistic, primarily proved by your thinking of revision. Then I saw your comment, "I was discouraged and I gave up." Important, useful information. You've waved off the sugary drinks and honey buns (I prefer cinnamon buns with raisins) with "every now and then," which implies once a week. Not believable (remember, I've seen and heard a lot). Be sure to include the sweets in your food journal with accuracy as to amounts. No one wants to confess such things to the RD, NP or surgeon, but they're not stupid. An accurate food journal is also a valuable learning tool for you. Speaking of NP and,or RD, sure, make an appointment. Be open about needing guidance and maybe a tweaking of plane It's not, however an emergency appointment. No bleeding? No extreme pain? No compound fracture? No emergency.. When you call, just say you'd like the earliest possible appt. Why pooh-pooh 48 lbs. lost? That's no "only" under any circumstances. Grumping about it shows unrealistic expectations. Another thing that's fishy: Not being precise about how much you've gained. It implies that it's all of 0.3 lb. Even if it is higher, my point is never to undervalue a weight loss or be evasive about missteps. Focus on them with clear vision so that you can build on them or correct them, whichever the case. Support is important. Participate in BP and definitely attend your practice's support group. My apology for not being better-organized.
  8. In the support group I go to there was a woman that said she was going to have her sleeve revised, and I did not get a chance to ask her what that meant. I will have to ask doc next time, just curious, although it makes me nervous that it may be needed down the road, I just try not to think about it, I am only 3 months out, and just do what I have to right now, Protein and fluids. I did a bit of overeating yesterday, so today not really hungry or eating much at all.

    Revision?

7lbs gained. How much of that might just be water due to weather or sodium intake or time of the month. Too soon to give up. Lots of other people here have hit stalls and been so upset. Plenty to read here that will help you through this. Revision is no guarantee of dumping syndrome, some people don't get that. As said before you can't compare your loss to another person's we are all different. My friend and I had it done the same day and both our losses are different but we eat together a lot and the rest of the time eat pretty much the same. Hang in there you can get back on track and keep losing.
  10. After some Google Fu, it doesn't seem possible to "re sleeve" unless the sleeve was too large to begin with or has stretched considerably (although I don't see how that is possible). Seems the doctors either revise to an RNY or a DS, both of which also effect the absorption of nutrients by re routing things.
  11. I don't know but before I had my surgery I was worried about stories of regain ect and my surgeon said not to worry about that just do what I'm suppose to do BUT if I ever needed it he could always do a revise. I don't see that happening. My husband took the kids and I out for my early birthday breakfast I always get the eggs Benedict and I ate the exact same amount I ate at 3 months post-op. A good 5 bites and done. I've been eating on that same meal ALL day! I finally throw it away. See what your surgeon says. You would be different case than me.
  12. I just read a post by someone who's unhappy with her sleeve history and is thinking of elective re-sleeving in order to decrease capacity and perhaps further diminish appetite. The topic caught my attention as a I'm expecting a discussion with my surgeon about switching from lapband to sleeve. I'll be compiling a list of sleeve questions to run by my surgeon and to ask in BP, but, for now, I'd like to know if sleeve makeovers are a known thing? As elective surgery? As medically necessary? If medically necessary, what sorts of things can go wrong the first time around? The only thing I can think of would be the popping open of sutures on the stomach before the incision heals completely. In my mind, that would require more of a repair than a revision. Has anyone here opted for re-sleeving to go smaller? Would reputable surgeons do that or would it be viewed as unethical? Another thing: I noticed a topic in the right-screen lists asking the post-surgery, smaller stomach can stretch. I think it got a "No," Is that correct? .

Considering a re-sleeve in the new year

@@Shells_Almost_There - I'm not sleeved, but I stopped at your topic because it may come to be. From what I glean amid all the detail, you're considering revision surgery to achieve a smaller stomach than you have now? To curb your appetite and decrease the stomach's capacity? If so, it sounds that you want to rely on surgery to lose weight for you rather than doing the mindful work and making sound choices for yourself. It sounds like dismal choice. We are separate individuals, certainly. From my perspective, admittedly one with little knowledge of sleeving, I'd feel lesser as a person. I don't want to give up autonomy and personal responsibility; I want to earn the satisfaction and pride of achievement. Your regain is 15 pounds from your lowest, post-surgery weight. No one wants regain, but 15 is not uncommon and nowhere as high as it could be, obviously. Consider whether the amount is really so overwhelming that going to the OR makes any sense. If you don't want to recommit to your original goal and want to evade doing the work for yourself, it's likely that you won't get where you say you want to go. There's something called "eating around the band," i.e., eating things that go down easily and never give satiety (anything sugar and most things crunchy, such as chips). I understand that there's an equivalent for sleeve people. If you don't know that full routine now, you're sure to find it. You've lost weight before. You can get back to it, maybe with a therapist who has experience with WLS people, eating disorders and all that.

Considering a re-sleeve in the new year

I think one of the first steps should be to get an endosocopy to see just how big your stomach is. Stomach sizes vary depending on the surgeon so this should be your first place to start. If it is indeed to large; consider revision. I revised from sleeve to gastric bypass and I am very glad with my decision. One other poster commented on the 15 pound gain; if I am correct you currently weigh 240 pounds at 5' 4". It does seem like you have alot more than 15 pounds to lose. I think revision is a great idea; yes it is just a tool but sometimes it is that extra push you need to get the rest of your weight off and stay there.

    Don't get a lap band

I am very glad the band is working well for you but much like the OP blanket statement yours is also not factually true. I did not do well with band, revised to sleeve 4 years ago and maintaining 150# loss. Many other similar stories.

Considering a re-sleeve in the new year

I said it in another thread, and I'll say it again. No amount of re sleeving, banding, revision to bypass, band to sleeve revision etc will help you be successful if you don't have your head in the game. Period. These surgeries shouldn't be used as a crutch. They should be used as a tool to help you meet your weight loss goals and then maintain the weight lost. Your mindset need to be right or it just won't work. Start by deciding what exactly your weight loss and fitness goals are, then put a solid plan into place. Get back to basics like when you first had surgery. Protien first, then veggies, and lots of fluids. Move more. Take it one step at a time if you have to until you feel you're back on track. Then just keep up the momentum. Make small goals along the way to keep you motivated. It's not easy, but I've seen people as far out as you get back on track and stay the course and lose the weight. I know you can too.

    Revision?

You don't need a revision on your stomach. You need a revision of your mind. No amount of re sleeving, banding, bypassing, revision from sleeve to bypass, revision from band to sleeve, or revision from band to bypass will help you become successful if your head isn't in the game. Get your head back in game. I know you can! Oh, and edited to add: I lost 50 pounds in 6 months. Then it took an additional 6 months to lose another 35 and get to my goal. I didn't give up, because I know if I did, I wouldn't be where I am today. I'm almost 95 pounds down, below my goal, running 3 miles and can currently squeeze my ass in a size 4/6. I'm 48 and feel and look 38. But I had to WORK for it. I fought and scrapped for every pound lost. Some of us have to, and that's okay. If I can do it, so can you.You just gotta want it bad enough.

    Revision?

I journal everything except fulids cause Dr just want a to see food. I reach my goals I guess for fulid and protien. I don't have a NUT I just have the NP at my weight loss center. I keep every appt and I tell them everything. I take my meds/vitamins. I was discouraged and I gave up. But I also knew what I put in my mouth was wrong and I worked out harder to work those things off. And I know if I had a revision I would have to follow the rules cause I'd get dumping syndrome and get sick. Its just a thought. I haven't had a sweet in 2 days and before my scale broke I was still gaining. I exercise 5x a week. I hate it but I do it. 30-40 minutes. I journal my exercise as well. I don't know if its a stall or I just put on a lil weight for a lil while. Its been on for a week. I don't k ow how to get it off. And people may thing 48lbs is good but I do t think so. I have a friend d who had surgery the same day as me she does the same as me and she is down over 100lbs since pre op. That's what I expected but I got a dumb 48 pounds. I'm just not happy with that.

    Revision?

Why consider a revision if you know that you aren't following the plan for the first surgery? You say you are eating good meals, but the only specifics you mention, like honey buns and sugary drinks, aren't on any plan I've seen. Are you tracking what you eat? Are you reaching your Protein and Fluid targets every day? Are you taking your Vitamins and supplements as required? Are you making all of your follow-up surgical appointments? Have you talked with your NUT lately? A revision seems like a very drastic step to take, especially if you are dissatisfied with your progress but not following your program? What makes you think you would follow it any better after a revision? Just curious, not trying to be mean.
  20. Has anyone in this group had a revision from band or gastric sleeve? Gastric sleeve patient already gaining weight? Wrong choice?
  21. I had gastric sleeve August 18th 2015. Currently I have already gained weight back and I wanted to know if a revision this early as possible.? I'm very upset with the weight gain I lost very slowly since August 18th. I had only lost about 48 pounds and then I started to gain. I'm considering making an emergency appointment with my nurse practitioner of my Weight Loss Center to discuss other options or to ask what could be wrong I know I'm doing everything right I'm eating great portions and great meals I have snuck a few sweet drinks in every now and then and honey bumn, yes don't reply with any bad messages please cuz I know I've done wrong but every time I had one of those sweets... I worked my ass off to get the calories worked off. I have accomplished over a mile of walking, I do Weight and I do spinning but no more weight is coming off its just gaining what do i do, what do you think?.

    GERD before VSG

This was me. I was a revision patient and on nexium for many years. When I revised they fixed my hernia and gerd is much better. At 3 month I started weaning off nexium. I take Zantac now as needed. Doctor said also as I lose weight the gerd should get better and it has. With my band my gerd was gone when I got under 200lbs and I'm hoping it will again. It is MUCH better now after hernia repair.
  23. Had band loved it, but had problems but I was skinny, revision to sleeve put weight back on, now 1 yr later had mini bypass 3 weeks out loving it it feels proper good, should have that 1st time, but how would u know?

Approvals with BMI history under 40?

@@MeFirst, your health plan likely has different criteria for revision (which is what you're seeking) than for a first bariatric procedure. I'd ask for criteria for revision, you may get better info that way.

    Lap band removal and mortified.

I had my revision last month after 14 years with the band. My esophagous was dilated as well and I think that is fairly common due to the pressure the band places. I had an unfill two years before my revision due to other issues and regained a lot of weight but my band removal and sleeve were performed in one procedure. Some here have had a two step procedure though. I would encourage you to read those posts and then contact your insurance and search out other surgeons in your area and get another opinion.
