I went to the hospital today and waited around for 4 hours only to be cancelled. I developed a boil of all things on my stomach and my surgeon said we would have to wait till it clears up. So he put me on antibiotics and said to make an appointment at his office in about 10 days. He said that he would try to fit me in for surgery asap. Unbelievable! He was right of course but all the planning for time off with my job and my husband's job out the window. Plus I was psyched and ready to go. Grrrrrrr

Hooray! I was banded on 10/23. Everything seems to have gone pretty smoothly. I have six incisions, 4 are about half an inch long, one is about an inch and a half, and one that is about three inches above my navel is about an inch but it is indented a bit. Has anyone else experienced that? I can't tell if the indented one is the port. I am on full liquids, about half a cup 3 times a day. Still pretty sore but this is not as painful as my 2 c-sections. I have not had any nausea and no dreaded gas pains, so far so good. Glad this is finally behind me

Today I felt so sick just looking at myself in the mirror. I have been wondering lately how did I get to this size and how would it be if I were to lose the weight. I have watched my mother and sister go through getting the band and it has seemed to work so wonderful for them. I guess I'm just tired of waiting and so ready to get my life back. I am ready to get back out with some of my old classmates and play ball or to go to the park and run around with my daughter without having to take mutiple 10 min breaks. I guess this year should be the year to look forward to many changes and hoping to re-gain the old sexy teddy bear I use to be.

Well it's been long journey...i had lapband for a little over 2 years and had trouble with it, I thought i was going to have revision 6 months ago,but insurance changed rule to 12. With the help of my awesome doctor, I am approved. I have friends that are trying to talk me out of it, some even saying I just need to be disciples on diet and exercise. But I still choose to do this...i am happy with my decision, and can't wait for next step Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-J320A using the BariatricPal App

PLICATION DONE BY DR ROD ON 3-25-2011..HERE IS MY STORY
bizzy replied to TEXAS DIVA's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
HELLO! For those reading this...not every experience is the same! The nurses were all helpful...you do throw up after surgery...I did, but not every hour...maybe a total of 6 times in three days. The pain meds and nausea meds worked great for me..but I take absolutely no other medications at home, so maybe things work stronger for me. No appetite in the hospital. Some pain but not excrutiating or anything. One thing I did that I think helped A LOT was ..while I was in bed I would bring knees to chest one at a time like I was walking only more of a bend than if on my feet...and burp burp burp..got rid of a LOT of gas...also, pressed into left shoulder...gas there too..burp burp burp. I felt sickly in the hosp...spiked a fever a few times...a shower worked well. It was surgery after all..but not all that painful...for me.You forget why the pain, and then walk and voila! Could lift my suitcase easily leaving the hospital..was surprised at that! The hospital IS gorgeous...and only saw Dr Rod once, just before I went under before surgery. Dr C was very helpful.Just thought I would write this..as all experiences are different. From April 1(10 days preop)to April 18th down 21 pounds...will weigh again on Wednesday April 28 or whatever... Went to work one week after surgery (surg on Sat so the following Monday..10days) ...felt yucky a bit. Back ache from sitting. A bit woozy now and then...had a lot of that after surgery....but second day, perfect. so thats the scoop. -
Three years and a lifetime later
emleyrose replied to Kindle's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
My first year was great 80 lbs gone felt great. I remember going into my closet and nothing fit. Best feeling ever. My second year the weight started to creep up and I felt out of control. Had a lot of personal trials..... husband retired, i have been retired for a few years from my career as a teacher. We traveled. We ate. We lived the life we had dreamed of. Slowly but surely the weight returned. Now I am almost as heavy as I was before surgery. Yes, it can happen. I lost my restriction. I am able to eat just about like I did per-surgery. I sometimes wonder if I can ever lose this weight yet again. I did not fix my emotional issues even though I did briefly do counseling. I have an addictive personality and I literally went from eating to shopping. When that got old and I had a house full of junk I went back to eating and using food as a coping mechanism. Every night I go to sleep thinking tomorrow will be different. Yet by 9:30-10:00 the next day same old thing. I am always going to start tomorrow. I know what I am doing, but I really don't know how to stop. Guess I just have not found a replacement for food. Sorry for the long rant but sadly regain can and will happen for some people. -

I had my first fill yesterday, like I mentioned before my doctor was not able to access my port. I was lucky yesterday, I had my fill done under a fluoroscopy. It went great, the doctor did numbed the area. I didn't feel any pain at that time, but after I did. Anyways, my port was hard to reach, it did took the doctor about 10 min to actually get the port so she could do the fill. I got a 1.6cc. I was on liquids yesterday, today I can start with soft foods. This morning I had some cream of wheat about 3/4 of a cup because I was already full. One of the other things I wanted to mention is what the doctor told me about fills not done under a fluroscopy, is not always accurate, sometimes the needle doesn't go inside the port and then the saline leaks. The area were the saline in inserted is about a size of a dime. That's why its better to have a fill under fluroscope.

Hi all, I am going for surgery next week 9/13/06, and not looking forward to Clear liquids for 10 days, so I was excited to hear about this bouillon that was so good and high in Protein, like 32gm. It does come in some interesting flavors, but I don't see the protein. I just bought the beef and it says 1gm, so, am I missing something? I'm looking for the person who posted about this who might can fill me in. I love this forum and all the info. I've gotten. Heading for bandland. Down 8lb on preop diet. Excited. Leaving tomorrow for TJ. Thanks for any info. Jewel

It was a breeze, the pain was minimal and after 2 days no narcotics. I was truly surprised. I was banded 19 Oct 07. I am on full solids, never hungary, or if I am, it feels very different from pre-surgery hungar. My physical pain levels have decreased 75-80%. I am so delighted. Hang in there, you can do this and the rest of your life will be so manageable, even with the ups and downs. Mary 274 day of surgery 251 today goal 134

5 Days Post Op - I Got Brave And Got On The Scales 7.1 Lbs Down!
tredwine replied to tredwine's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Way to go Sister!!!! 10 lbs down !!! When was the last time you lost 10 lbs so quickly. What is your plan for the scales, Im thinking twice a week. I cant believe I actually want to weigh, that is just so wierd. Usually I avoid the scales like a plaque. So funny.... Dont worry about eating too much, you cant your stomach wont let you. I found I can eat about 3/4 cup Soup, you got to remember alot of that is liquid so it processes quickly, when you move to the soft foods, your intake will be more limited because our stomach will fill up and hold it longer. Your doing FANTASTIC!!!! -
So today I got my GI clearance and is very excited !! It was my last appointment and I contacted my doctors office via email and they stated I will be submitted to insurance as soon as they get the faxes .. Hopefully I can be submitted by the weekend. VERY EXCITED for my life to be more healthy before my life really starts, this is the best thing I could have decided to do. 19 years old and getting healthy for me and my future

below the yellow line, PreOp I'm NOT the BIGGEST LOSER, but the Biggest Gainer!
Jenslim4good replied to Jenslim4good's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Youknowit.. I laughed so loud when I was reading your post, I can so relate and really really appreciate you sharing your wisdom. I should be able to drive home, I have a new "fixer" that is only 10 minutes from the airport. I am going to return there and do some painting and general work when I return. I received an email saying NO lifting over 5 pounds and NO BENDING (???) for 6 weeks? Yikes! Did ya'all have problems with bending too? I did with my abdominoplasty 11 years ago, but I didn't think about this. What do you think? -
I think most MI based insurance programs have a 6 month process. I had to meet with a doc once a month, the nut, exercise, and behaviorist one time. The insurance companies changed their policies on June 1st this year...call and check with them (ask you docs office for the surgery codes before you call) Sleeved 10\23\12 by Dr. James Foote, Grand Health Partners

I still can hardly believe how great things are going. I stayed at a hotel for a few days post op bc I live about 8 hours from hospital. Came back home yesterday and was so happy to see my baby girl again! She is only 2 so she doesn't understand why I can't pick her up yet. I showed her my boo boos and she gave me a check up with her dr kit, made my day! My hunger has been nearly non existent. Toughest part was fixing her dinner and snacks, used to I would eat along with her. I can drink water without much restriction if I pace myself, but protein drinks and protein soups I feel very full at about 3 oz. still no pain or nausea. I have lost 10 lbs since surgery 6 days ago, I know that is not a realistic or sustainable rate, but for now I am loving it!

8 days post op--- feeling bad
chasingadream replied to Susan58's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You just had surgery…give yourself time to heal and readjust….it took about 10-12 days before I was really feeling like my old self. I was tired after returning to work….I spoke to my doc about it and they said it was normal….part of the healing process. If you still feel this way be sure to check in with your doctor…they are the ones who will know best if it is normal or if you need to be seen or what you can do to help yourself get through it. Good luck and keep us posted. -
Gastric sleeve and lupus
MsBrown76 replied to brooksbrittanyanne's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had bypass on 11/21/19, and I was diagnosed with SLE, Sjogrens, and PMR in 2017. Thanks God it’s well controlled with Plaquenil. The only issue I’m experiencing is the fatigue, and I’m noticing hair loss starting. That scares me the most, but I’ve added Biotin to my vitamin regimen. The pain and discomfort I’m still experiencing I’m not contributing that to my Lupus at this time. I had hernia repair too and that’s the area the bulk of my pain is, and lower abdominal region. I wish you the best of luck. Just know there’s no more oral prednisone if you have to use that for flare ups it has to be IV, or injection only from what my doctor told me. It cannot be long term. -
That's good math and good advice. I searched for 'how many calories to maintain weight.' I found a million sites, I went to the first ten: Site 1: Fit Magazine, 2294 Site 2: Calorie Control, 2171 Site 3: WebMD, 1600 Site 4: Free Dieting, 1914 Site 5: Cancer.org, 1500 Site 6: Calorie King, 1850 Site 7: Walking.com, 2150 Site 8: Fat Burning Furnace Reviews, 1911 Site 9: WL for Women >40, 1992 Site 10: Mayo Clinic, 1650 So the range is 2294 - 1500 calories each day. That's the difference of a meal a day. Mind you, I used 'sedentary' as the lifestyle, assuming I would not get much exercise in each day. More logical to assume none than to estimate (over-estimate?) a level of activity. So using the formula for losing 1 lb = a 3500 calorie deficit each week (I just LOVE math word problems, can you tell?), the range for me would be: (2294 x 7) - 3500 / 7 = 1794 to (1500 x 7) - 3500 / 7 = 1000 Wow, talk about an inexact science. That's enough to drive me right to the cookie jar! I think I lost a pound just working my brain that hard!
