    Did I make a mistake

I just think you're lucky you get mushies at 10 days! LOL I got clear liquids week one, and then got to add in .... protein shakes! (oh wow) but no I agree with the others; if it didn't hurt and it was per your doc's dietary guidelines, then you're fine.
  3. Hi, I’m looking for advice. I weigh 11 stone 11 pounds and I’m booked in to have gastric band surgery in less than a week. As it gets nearer to the time I’m starting to have second thoughts. I have been trying to loose weigh all my life but I just can’t. I know I’m now very overweight but I really want to loose 3 stone. Am I crazy to do this?? I’d love some advice because I’m feeling very nervous. Thank you in advance

    Handling emotions?

I am with you...I am 4 weeks out as well and it seems like I'm on a roller coaster of emotions. I just try to remember what brought me to having the surgery and how excited i was and then remember that its not going to be like this forever...you can do this...you will do this! Hang in there!

    So EXCITED

So happy for you. I know exactly how you feel. I received my phone call a week and a half ago, and I had that same reaction. I start my pre-op diet on Wednesday, surgery on 12/30. I wish you the best of luck!
  7. All doctors are different, I have an extremely conservative doctor, I had a few complications with surgery but this is what he expects from all his patients. Clears - 1 week - broth, Isopure, decaff tea, sugar-free Popsicles, Sugar-free Jello Full Liquids - 5 full weeks - Protein shakes, Syntrax nectar, unjury unflavored Protein added to Soups, skim milk, Low Fat Creamed Soups, or strained creamed soups like Cream of Asparagus, cream of chicken, broccoli cheddar (strained) Healthy Request Bean & Bacon Soup - completely pureed, then add Water to it, so it's fully liquid, some people are allowed cream of wheat - I wasn't allowed that also anything from the clears section allowed, Sugar-Free pudding, Plain Greek Yogurt - not allowed Cream of Potato (too many carbs) Tomato soup (too acidic) strained vegetable soup, etc. Pureed - 1 week or until you think you can handle soft foods Tuna & ff mayo - (must be very moist), instant mashed potatoes with added Protein powder, poached eggs or runny scrambled eggs, canned chicken pureed with ff mayo, refried Beans with ff sour cream, cooked white fished, pureed add ff tartar sauce, 1% cottage cheese, (once on pureed, watch how much cheese you take in, because constipation is an issue) Soft foods - 1 week, meat that you cook in the crock pot and you can cut with a fork and falls apart, no nuts, no seeds, softly cooked vegetables, tuna, fish, etc. Regular foods - or anything off the other lists. This is all subject to how well you do on each phase. We are not to advance until told to. My surgeon seems to have one of the longest full liquid phases. Pureed foods (tuna & chicken) are not going down too easy on me. I can get it down but only about 1 ounce along with maybe 3 teaspoons of 1% cottage cheese, but then I have a heavy feeling in my chest and stomach, not sure if it's been too dry. Today I went to broth for dinner because I have a migraine and I feel nauseated, due to the headache. I will go back to purees tomorrow and hope for the best.
  8. My doc's plan was two basic stages, with liquids, purees and soft proteins including eggs and seafood the first month, progressing as tolerated, then everything else as tolerated the second month and beyond. I had scrambled eggs served in the hospital and hard boiled eggs at home the first week.

    Week 3

Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process. Everyone stalls, and almost every one stalls about three weeks after surgery. As others have suggested, just make sure you are getting in enough Protein and Fluid. If the numbers on the scale are driving you crazy then stay off the scale! Embrace the Stall! http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall

    Week 3

Don't over do it on the exercise people! Your bodies just had surgey. They are healing and also adjusting to the low calories. 30 minutes 3-4 times a week is plenty. The stalls or gains may be caused by doing too much and your bodies not getting enough nutrition sending it into starvation mode. If you are not over eating, then do not over exercise either. I had a 3 week stall when I started working out. When I slowed down only doing 30 to 45 mins on weights and or walking then I started to lose again. But, I'm 10 weeks out now and I haven't lost anything this past week again. I'm okay with it because I know I could be doing better with my Water intake and Protein too. I didn't think I would have to watch my diet so much after surgery but I am still very glad I had it. The reason being... I do not constantly think about food. Fatty high carb and sugary foods make me extremely nauseous just to think about them now. Surgery has changed my way of thinking when it comes to food. That is my solution! Things will start moving again, It's all good!

    Week 3

I, too, am at 3 weeks and have stalled. I have been averaging about 65 Protein, definitely getting enough Water, and walk at least 6 miles per day and go to the gym three times a week for 40 minutes. My calorie intake has been no higher than 700 per day. I haven't lost a pound in about ten days:( Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  12. Karindb, First start out by contacting your ins company to see where you stand with the procedure. That takes about 2/3 weeks. If they deny you appeal the claim (30 days). Usually the drs office takes part in that by requesting medical records of your husbands current conditions, (diabetes, sleep apnea, asthma, high bp, etc.) I would also suggest that you write a letter along with the appeal stating all the right reasons for the surgery. I don't know why your dr isn't proactive in this. Is he a lap band surgeon? If he doesn't help with the appeal I believe you can get your own records. If all fails with ins co. then you can get a loan:mad:. If you feel uncomfortable later with his attitude, then go find another dr. Good Luck!

    I Have A Odd 10 Day Diet

It's basically the post-surgery week 2 diet. Isn't gonna hurt, will probably help shrink the liver some. Every program is different, I guess.
  15. I had gastric bypass 5-14-20....it took about 3 months for me to feel what I would consider “normal”. The soreness and fatigue was gone after 4-6 weeks. I had some depression after my surgery due to not feeling like I could participate in family functions bc everything in my family was centered around food. Also most of my family didn’t know I had WLS. So lots of factors (that were my choice) played into that. But as of today I am 9 months post-op and have lost 130 pounds! I have more energy and I am happier than I have ever been. ❤️ Congrats on your surgery!! Wishing you happiness and a speedy recovery!

What exactly is allowed on liquid diet?

Hello~ I start my liquid diet on your surgery date. My surgery is on July 8 so I have to do 1 week liquid diet pre surgery. What I was told that I can drink is protein shakes, soups (just the liquid), juice, water, and broth. Good luck on your journey!
  17. 3 weeks to lose 4 pounds ? You can easily lose this and much more. Did they give you a diet to follow ? If not, then as folks have suggested above there are ways to drop off weight really fast. The pre-op diet many of us followed dropped off a pound per day. It works due to calorie deficit and ketosis. You've got plenty of time to lose the weight. You can do this with great success.

    Pre- Op Weight Loss Question

My doctor required a two week pre-op diet for me. I had 3 Protein shakes and one Soup a day. Stayed away from high-fat and creamy Soups. I lost over 20 lbs during that time. Maybe you could try something like that?

    Lifting weights

My instructions are no more than 8 pounds the first week, then no more than 20 the next 4 weeks.

Sleeved On 2/27, Two Days Post Op

Tried not to get on the scale because I read you will weigh more after surgery, but I did and I have lost already, Loving my sleeve already, encourages me to stick to the plan. In four weeks I can eat solids, looking forward to eating a little bit on Resurrection Sunday (Easter), I love veggies and hope I can get some down then.
  21. I know it's difficult but things will slowly improve. Be patient. I am 6 weeks out and had alot of the same symptoms you describe. You must go slow with your drinking. Just sips. Don't try to actuallu drink. You have alot of swelling inside the needs to go down. As for the chest pains I too had those and I figure it was also from the gas or the hiatal hernia repair. Continue to try to walk, try Gas X Strips or any other gas relief. It didn't help me much but alot of people on this site swear by them. I know it is hard now but think of the results down the road. I feel so much better now and am due to have my first fill on August 8th. I am now so excited to feel some restriction again, once all my swelling went down I got my appetite back but have controled it and have kept off my 25lbs that I have lost. Keep the faith, things will slowly improve. Take Care of yourself. Leah

    Date is set...

:scared2:Dear Blog MonSTAH... I am scared or worried or anxious or ALL of them. But never ever before have I wanted to look into a crystal ball and find out what my future brings more than I do right now. June 2nd could be the greatest or the worst day of my life. I keep pumping myself up and telling myself if I don't do this where will I be a year from now? Fatter. I know that. If not fatter, then struggling to keep my weight "down" to 285...not quite bikini weight, is it ? Today I had my blood tests and my psych eval. Tuesday I have my exercise consult and then Thursday is my nutrition consult (although I thought I was supposed to have the nutrition consult at least two weeks before...hmmm). I am on day five of a self-imposed low carb diet. I've been keeping my "net" carbs around 50, logging my foods on fitday.com and trying to keep my fat below 30%. ...regarding my work issues...they are now trying to give me TWO days off with no pay. So I have gone from being fired, to five days no pay, to no action taken to two days no pay....can someone pls make up your mind ? :cursing:
  23. I'm only 7 months out, and been struggling with a stall. So yesterday I tracked absolutely everything I are/drank and discovered I haven't been doing what I should, too many carbs, 150 calories too many, not enough protein. And no exercise. So out came my "manual" and back to basics it is! Time to be accountable!
  24. One of my incisions has opened! It's not oozing or anything but it's a hole. Should I leave it alone? If I use steri strips now will it trap in bacteria? I've been sleeved for three weeks and it was closed covered by a scab. It just opened a few days ago.
  25. One of the reasons I joined this forum in Dec '09 after my VSG was to understand all about stalls and how to break them (live with them !). After almost 6 months I have realized that stalls are inevitable, they way they react is unpredictable but finally breakable. My longest stall was 9 weeks, not only was it a stall, I had actually gained weight. To all friends who come here to seek answers on stall - you will win ! There are many NSVs also, I am fully off diabetes medication, sleep well (no snoring), walk and run 4 miles a day, trouser size down from 55 to 38, shirt from 46 to 42. The best decision I ever made was to go for VSG. Keep the spirits high. The wonderful people of this forum helped me remain sane when confusion prevailed. Thank you all.
