Protein intake vs. being full?
BLERDgirl replied to ForLfKlovr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Listening to your body. Many of us got where we needed surgery by pushing past that fll feeling. If you are concerned about hitting your protein, switch things up. Add a bit greek yogurt to your Protein shake. *Flavor your Water with a Protein Drink like Isopure NoCarb or Syntrax Nectars. Plan for 3 meals and 2 Snacks instead of 3 big meals. It will allow you to get in more protein without pushing your limits. *Isopure Nocarb drinks are 40gms of protein for 20 ounces. I divide the bottle into 3 parts. I use my 24 ounce water bottle. I try to drink 24 ounces 3 times a day. I add the Isopure and carry my bottles everywhere and sip whenever I am not eating. It makes meeting protein & Fluid goals easy. -
Protein Shakes - Do I have to?
rking replied to Jackiesleeved2015's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc won't even let me have protein shakes until week 3. I am on clear liquids only. I MUST drink isopure protein drinks for my protein. He is very conservative but I have to say I have had not one ounce of nausea and I feel great!!! I think I feel better than I should. I have broth, Gatorade, water, isopure and auger free Popsicles. I actually feel like I could handle mashed taters or soups or yogurt but I will not risk it. Was yours on 17th? Mine was. -
What have you learned to love since WLS?
Alex Brecher replied to dhrguru's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
dhrguru, Great topic! Let’s see…I have learned to love: Life! So cheesy, but so true. I love life for living’s sake, and not for the sake of the food that comes along with it. Healthy food. I like Greek yogurt, blueberries, salmon, and so many other healthy foods. I like their taste, and I like the feeling of knowing they’re good for me. Unhealthy food: I say I have learned to like it because now I can crave it, enjoy a reasonable amount of it, and get over it. Before, I just ate it. Exercise. Yes, I love running, lifting weights, biking, and being active generally…and not just because it feels good when it’s over (although I like that feeling, too). It lowers stress and makes me feel strong and powerful. -
Anyone that has had surgery within a week?
YCandy replied to Glogyal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had mine nov 19th. Felt ok the day of, no nausea or really any pain. 2nd day wasn't as great - hurt to drink & I had some mild nausea in the evening. Woke up today (day 3) with no nausea, less pain when drinking. It's more of the gas bubbles & pressure that are annoying. Today I've had a danactive drinkable yogurt (3 oz), premier protein shake (11 oz) and some egg drop soup strained. It really hit the spot. I'm going to try & get one more shake in for 60 grams protein. But no way am I able to get 60 oz fluid yet. -

Sleeved11/13/15 replied to Jackiesleeved2015's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For breakfast yesterday, I drank the hot chocolate with protein peanut butter to equal 23 G protein, a couple of hours before lunch I ate 3 oz of Kroger's Carb Master yogurt to equal 3 protein, for lunch two slices (2 oz) of deli meat turkey breast with 1 tbs of sharp cheddar cheese, a total of 13 g protein, afternoon snack I had 1/2 cup of cottage cheese equaling 14 grams of protein, for dinner I had chicken breast (1.5 oz) and a slice of swiss cheese, a total of 18 G protein, before bed a had another hot chocolate for 23 g. Total of 94 g of protein. I put everything in my fitness pal. -
Sleeved 9/9/15. I have lost 53 pounds. No more Metformin for diabetes, gout, high cholesterol. Hopefully I will come off high blood pressure meds next month. My struggle has been getting 64oz of water in but I have no problems protein. I do one protein shake and one protein bar a day. I get the rest of my protein eating eggs, chicken, seafood, turkey and beef. Snacks are yogurt, string cheese, almonds, sugar free puddings and sunflower seeds. Exercises have been walking, ab exercises, squats and resistance band workouts. Just joined Planet Fitness so that will be a new journey. I know that everyone is different but I had to find what works for ME and I have found this is what works for ME......right now.

My RNY Gastric Bypass Surgery
DangerMouse007 replied to DangerMouse007's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Post Op Again I've documented some of my experiences in other threads so I'll keep this section really short. I did not have any complications post op. I was taken out of the Recovery Room and into my own hospital room fairly quickly, and I was walk, walk, walking and sip, sip, sipping as soon as I did. I only spent one night in the hospital before going home. When the surgeon came to visit me the day after my surgery he said it looked like I hadn't even had surgery. That was a plus to me. I haven't had too much trouble eating since the surgery. I stayed fairly true to my surgeon's/nutritionist's recommendations which seem to be almost completely different then most people on here. If I did stray off the recommendations it was only by a day or so. In other words, I started trying meats, chicken, salads two days before my "green sheet" recommended. As far as food I stay away from, bread for sure which is a good thing. I won't even have a sandwich. Chicken sometimes gives me a problem, but that may be more of an issue with me not chewing well I think. A few weeks ago I baked some chicken wings at home; barely a handful. But I had two of them and vomited them out shortly thereafter. The next day I tried again, and vomited again. I'm not sure I've experienced dumping although I did have something that might have been dumping Halloween weekend. I went back to Texas to visit with a friend and her daughter. We went to San Antonio to hang out for the weekend. We went to one mall and stopped at a yogurt shop to get some yogurt. I had a small bowl with very little yogurt and added a cherry, a strawberry, and some pineapple. About 20 minutes later, I could feel my heart rate go up, and I had to make a run to the bathroom. There I calmed down and seemed fine after that. Another issue I had was at Chipotle. I personally had never been there before, but in Texas we have Freebirds and in Austin, Cabo Bob's which basically serve the same thing (and where I've gone previously when I lived won there) so I decided to try it. I ordered a steak salad. I only had maybe 4 or 5 bites before I felt that tightness in my chest. Not too long after that I vomited it all back up. So unhappy about that, but I'm not trying that again. Oh, yeah, and the pork chop. I found a recipe to make pork chops in a slow cooker. I made it one afternoon, and the pork chops came out fantastic...meat just coming off and shredded like a pot roast in a slow cooker. Again, just a few bites, and it came back out. I still have not tried a steak mainly because I'm worried that I'll vomit it out again. Ground meat is pretty much the only "red meat" that I've tried. At home I basically cook everything now. I live alone so I have plenty of leftovers that last a really long time. I have a vacuum sealer so that helps keep my food when I use it and put the excess food in the freezer for later. When I was in Texas for Halloween we went out to eat for every meal which was a bit of a challenge. I ended up either just having a Soup or salad everywhere we went. I'll admit to hating being limited to that at every restaurant, but I didn't want to risk getting sick in front of company. I think somebody on here recommended taking some kind of plastic bag everywhere you went. That's a bit extreme, but I'd rather avoid vomiting all together. At the moment, I don't seem to have daily Protein or calorie guidelines from my nutritionist. The only recommendation that I have is that I eat 3 solid protein meals per day which also means no Protein shakes. At my next appointment I will ask about the protein and calorie intake. -
Thanks for the information. I'll try eating les and slower. I'm not estimg much to begin with, but I'll give it a try. How about protein for you guys? My doctor recommends 60g of protein a day. I find it impossible right now to get there. Are you guys there yet? I'm just managing 1/4 cup of soup or a yogurt at meals. How on earth does one get 60g in a day?

7.5 weeks before and during pictures
marcy0912 replied to marcy0912's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Feeling great. I was very fortunate that I sailed through surgery very quickly. Zero pain. Now, I honestly feel totally normal except I eat less. I still do 2 Protein shakes a day to make sure I am getting all that in. A typical day is shake for Breakfast. Greek yogurt for snack. lunch is chicken salad or leftovers from the night before. I like the Oscar Meyer P3 Snacks and some protein for dinner. Still at 3 oz a meal and between 700 and 800 calories. I'm back at the gym. Still tire easily, but that gets better each day. Not sure I made the right choice. I'm 3days out. Feel like I'm not doing it right. I sip on water, protein drinks. Little bites of pudding, Greek yogurt and cream of wheat. I have to do the until I go back on Dec 4th for a following up. Any one else struggling.

Shopping for pre-op diet...suggestions?
mum2dkl replied to lizziebeth72's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know all the pre-op diets are different, but I stocked up on yogurt (I like Dannon OIKOS Triple Zero), unsweetened applesauce, sugar free jello, sugar free pudding, tomato soup, chicken broth. I really like the Unjury protein powders. Made sure I got unflavored as well as Chocolate Spendor, Vanilla and the Chicken soup. Hope this helps? -
I start my 10 day diet tomorrow! Thankfully my doctor allows things like yogurt, cottage cheese, and pureed soups because I think that's the only thing that's going to get me through!
-
Not sure that is the best option. The only concern I would have is how much sugar is in the frozen greek yogurt? A Premiere Protein Shake has 4g carbs, 1g sugar and 30g Protein. That frozen yogurt, even though it's greek, probably has between 7-15g sugar in a half cup serving? Thats a lot of sugar, especially early on. I am not a nutritionist, so you should refer to your surgeon or nutritionist for confirmation, but I would maybe find another, lower sugar alternative. Best of luck.

I found some frozen Greek yogurt at the grocery store today. Adding skin or almond milk and protein powder would qualify as a protein shake wouldn't it? I'm on day 10 post op and will be starting protein shakes on day 14. How much do you drink at once? (my plan is for only 2 ounces at one time, but also states you can do this every 15 mins)

What can I do with...sweet peppers?
DavidOso replied to Inner Surfer Girl's topic in Regular foods (stage 4)
i put equal parts sweet(or hot)peppers and onions in the food processor(do each alone) grind until fairly fine, add salt and ground cumin and store in the frig as a raw relish. mix into chicken or tuna salad, a spoonful on eggs, mix with greek yogurt as a dip for veggies. will keep several weeks in a glass jar in the frig. -
I loved pureed tuna! Get some of those flavored packets of tuna, blend them with a tasty sauce or dressing (NOT water or broth, yuck). Put it in a little ramekin, sprinkle some cheese on top, and heat it up in the microwave. You can do the same sorts of things with chicken, turkey, salmon, shrimp, ground beef, pork, etc. -- whatever meats your program allows, of course. There are all sorts of delicious sauces and cheese to add in and make your meal taste like a casserole without all the carby crap. Refried beans, poached eggs, cottage cheese (with dressing or PB stirred in is really good), Greek yogurt, all worked well for me too.

I remember having to consume juice and Greek yogurt to get some extra calories in so that I could have some sustainable energy. However, once I learned to work my sleeve and consume the cals I needed, I completely backed off of the juices. I know it is rough and that everyone tends to say, "It's going to get better." As redundant as that is, it is true. Time and learning how to work your sleeve will make the difference. Best of luck to you!

Thanksgiving post week 3
Inner Surfer Girl replied to M&S's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Follow your plan. If you need ideas talk to your NUT. Healing safely is your number one priority. That should include getting in all of your Protein and fluids. By week three I was starting soft foods, which meant I was eating a lot of Greek yogurt and cottage cheese. One idea, if it fits in your plan, is to try a seasonal Greek yogurt (like pumpkin) with pumpkin pie spice or something similar. Don't risk your health by eating something that is not in your program. -
I have had a lump in my throat for two days now. I am four weeks post bypass. I have eaten only yogurt and cottage cheese since the sensation began. I thought it was from turkey that I ate that may have been too dry. I would have expected it to have dissipated by now. I am on ant-reflux medicine, so I don't think it is that. Any ideas?

I am on week 3 postop and I'm having a hard time picking foods to try. Greek yogurt was a no go. Any ideas on what to try?

Pre-Op Struggles!
turbomom22 replied to kelleyesanders's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm on day ten of my liquid diet, the first two were def the hardest. My doc says nothing about calories, but more about protein between 60-70 grams of protein per day, broth, SF jello, SF freeze pops, SF hot chocolate, healthy choice strained cream of mushroom and chicken soups. I've found that when I add no flavor proteins to the soups they are good, I've also found that vanilla and chocolate protein (from unjury) with fair life skim milk is a delicious smoothie, the strawberry banana muscle milks are good, I also can have light m fit yogurt with no chunks, I change those up. I enjoy the flavored water that you can buy at any store. My choices are limited yes, but I am down 14 lbs!! I actually feel healthy and stronger than ever ... Already!! Good luck!!!
