Oct 19th 2015 sleevers check in. how ya doing?
Colleen Rothberg replied to BairwithMe's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am glad we have had a chance to chat. I was feeling the same. No regrets , just having issues with the learning curve. There are times I can't believe I'm hungry . I am going back to basics, yogurt and introduce things slower. Lets keep in touch I think we can help talk each other through this tropical37@gmail.com -
Anyone have issues with evening/night hunger or tips on controlling it? Typically I have zero hunger in the morning and it builds through out the day. I'm working hard to try and get myself on schedule where I eat 3 small meals a day plus a mid morning Protein shake and an afternoon snack. However, I'm finding I routinely have hunger before bed, and sometimes will have a small meal/snack which I know isn't good right before bed. I'm sticking to my portion limit of 1/2 cup of food. Here's my typical day: I pretty much force myself to eat something around 9-10am (like a pouch of tuna, or 1.5 veggie Breakfast patties) then I'll have a premier Protein Shake around noon, small meal around 2pm, if I need it a snack around 4-5pm (2/3's of a yogurt or cheese stick) and then finally a small meal around 7-8pm (usually 1/2 cup of refried black Beans or turkey chili or another tuna pouch.) Then I may have something around 10-11pm... I'll do something like a bit of sauteed zucchini, or a no sugar added fruit cup... but occasionally it may be 1/2 cup portion of beans/chili/etc. I've read quite a bit elsewhere that it is likely due to buildup of stomach acid. Eating causes the stomach acid to empty, thus relieving the hunger. Anyone else find ways to deal with the acid buildup without resorting to eating?

Maintaining easily for over a year but a recent frustration developing. Thoughts?
Oregondaisy replied to LipstickLady's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I don't see anything wrong with eating grilled cheese or a potpie once in awhile. They aren't junk food. I am really bad about this too. I have the opposite problem. I crave sweets all the time and all I ever want is Greek Yogurt and Protein shakes. I get hungry now though, and I need something more solid that's going to stick with me longer. I cooked a bunch of chicken thighs in the crock pot and took all the meat off, put it in different baggies, and froze them. This helps me and I made vegetable Soup. I rarely get enough veggies. I live alone and I hate to cook for just me. Sometimes I eat those Atkins meals. I have to force myself though. I'd rather make a Protein shake. -
How was your 5:2 day today?
Globetrotter replied to Oregondaisy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey guys, checking in - Dr. had nothing worthwhile to say and referred me to a gastro, who has yet to call me to make an appointment. yesterday I ate some pumpkin seeds, a few mouthfuls of yogurt, a couple bites of plain chicken salad (vegan mayo) and a sugar cookie. Apparently my body does not differentiate between low calorie overall and low carb. -
I was still in full liquids at 8 days out. I was still using Protein shakes, ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrate. ProtiDiet tomato basil and creamy chicken Soups, and V8. I was also allowed cottage cheese and Greek yogurt during my full liquid stage. You should be doing everything you can to get in all of your protein and fluids.

I am 8 days out, as well. Down 21 pounds. I feel hungry, lightheaded and sluggish, too. Yesterday I had about 1 Tbs. of pureed cottage cheese and for dinner I had 2 Tbs. of plain mashed potatoes. I also got in all my liquids, a Protein shake, Jello and yogurt. My biggest problem is night hunger. My stomach and head are waking me up in the middle of the night. Trying to eat or drink some kind of protein before bed to stave that off. Hang in there! We are traveling this journey right alongside of you! I have just showered and washed my hair. Resting before I dry my hair. Took out my last staple this morning. Kinda scary but I'm glad it is out even though I got very dizzy after I pulled it out. We are having heavy storms here today. Just trying to stay calm and follow the plan.

October List of Surgery's
whoahbabyy replied to 60&goin4it's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A little over 4 weeks out and down 43 pounds. I can't tell a difference buy everyone else can. I still struggle to get all my protein and water in, but mainly because I sleep so much still. I've always loved sleep. Lol I'm trying to stay up all day today (6am-10pm) so fingers crossed I can get it all in today. I'm at a stall though. I keep bouncing around between a pound or up a pound. It's annoying. But I need to stop weighing myself everyday, but I can't help it!! Ugh. I've been having trouble taking my vitamins even. They feel stuck, and gag me. Then I have to try and not getting sick. I'm still barley eating 1/4 cup of food once or twice a day. An average meal is 3 chunks of cheese, 2 slices of turkey meat and now at dinner I had my veggies and I try and have some fruit mixed with yogurt(3oz) in the morning. So not very much. I get so full so fast. -
I was on liquid for a few days Then soft food like yogurt and cream soups. Day 8 I had cheese and apples and my life is great. I can eat protein bars and ground turkey. I am supposed to get 60-85 grams of protein and 60 oz minimum water daily but I'm never hungry so it's a challenge. I drink a protein shake in the morning with my vitamins and meds. I don't miss anything I am committed to getting healthy and living a more active lifestyle. You are so fortunate to be having this surgery in time to raise your family in a health conscious way. You need to be careful and no heavy lifting for the first 2 weeks. I wish you the best. It is wonderful NOT to be hungry. Did you know the lap band actually increases hunger? Wicked huh?

Liquid Diet is getting monotonous. What are/were your faves?
Daisee68 replied to Mogwaicat's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Definitely include some broths. I loved Swanson's Mexican Tortilla Soup broth. A little spicy so needs to be watered down a little. For shakes, one of my favorites was Orange Crush powder (like the sticks of Crystal Light) mixed with vanilla Protein powder (I LOVE Precision Engineered whey Protein Isolate vanilla) and 2 oz of fat free milk with 4 to 6 oz of Water and few ice cubes (or you can skip the milk and just use water). Tastes a bit like Orange Julius. After about 6 weeks post-op, I added in a very small bit of banana (like 1 oz or about 1/4th of medium banana). My other favorite shake is PB2 and chocolate powder. Also, once you can have pudding or yogurt, boost their protein with 1/2 scoop of Protein Powder (vanilla powder with Dannon Light & Fit Greek strawberry Cheesecake is really good). You can also use sugar free syrups (by Torani for example). Or mix in small bit of pudding mix. Here is a link to some good ones - http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2007/06/my-favorite-protein-shake-recipes.html Finally some people like the Isopure and nectar fruit flavored drinks. I hated them both but that's just me. Just remember that the first few weeks post-op are tough but you have to keep your eye on the prize and just power through it. -
Protein Shakes - Do I have to?
magtart replied to Jackiesleeved2015's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The Protein helps in healing. You will have to try something. Can you have greek yogurt? Sip on some warm broth. Try Isopure zero carb, which is more like a clear fruity drink. -
I track everything on MyFitnessPal and have lots of MFP friends who do the same. My diary is open to friends. I suggest you get an MFP account, acquire friends who are post-wls, and peek in at their diaries to get ideas and inspiration. How much you eat, how often, calories, protein, etc. will vary a lot depending on what stage you are and what your doctor's guidelines are. When I was at your stage, my rules were: --no more than 800 calories per day --minimum 75 grams of protein per day --maximum 60 grams of carbs per day --3 meals per day, no more than 3 ounces of food per meal --no snacks other than calorie-free liquids and protein shakes --no grains, no sweets, no high-carb veggies such as potatoes, sweet potatoes, peas, or corn (which is actually a grain anyway, not a veggie). Within those rules, I could play around as much as I wanted. Typically I had something like Greek yogurt + berries for breakfast, diced chicken breast with green veggies for lunch, tuna salad & a poached egg for dinner, + 2 protein shakes.

Got plastic surgery dates....
NewSetOfCurves replied to Lacowgirl72's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I reverted back to a lot of Protein shakes and meat. I had a body lift (which also included the tummy tuck; same as 360), spiral thigh lift and breast augmentation on June 9th. I am 5 months out. The doctor wanted me to get in a minimum of 100 grams of protein. So, I over shot and set my goal to 150 grams (which I was already used to, because my daily in-take of protein was at this level due to the intensity of the weight lifting program I was on). A chicken breast usually carries about 30-40 grams of protein. A can of tuna has almost 40. I would graze on these meats throughout the day, just prepared them in various ways so they would not get so "boring". Two 11 oz Premier Protein Shakes adds another 60 grams of protein; the rest would come from nuts, Greek yogurt, cheese, and other natural high protein foods. I was able to get back into the gym--slowly--at about 8 weeks. I do not do any core specific exercise, even though I they are targeted secondarily via other exercises, I am waiting for my 6 month post-op date to arrive to begin those types of exercises. Best of luck to you! I know how exciting the prospect of a new body is, especially after all that you have gone through to get there. It will be rough for a little while, but it is so worth it! Keep us posted! -
Thanks everyone I guess no to the frozen yogurt sugar free from what I read on here once there at there goal then they might have a bite or two is what I'm getting. That's okay totally forgot about the frozen Popsicles going to get some tomorrow!!
-
what I've also done is taken a tub of greek yogurt and put it in our ice cream maker. with some chopped up bits of fruit in it. It was quite tasty

What about no sugar added frozen yogurt? We have a summer home in a lovely resort that had an ice cream shop that people adore. I know I can't eat the ice cream, but they do offer the frozen yogurt (no sugar ADDED). I am two weeks pre-surgery. I suppose I'll have to ask for the nutrition label next summer when i get there....

I'm on day 2. 1200 calories or less. 150 grams carbs. 40 grams of fat max. The creamy box soups, V8 spicy, yogurt, jello and the protein shakes are my main staples. Just make sure I have something every hour or 2. Good luck! I'm too much of a scardy cat to cheat.

I am almost 9 months out and I can eat about 2/3 cup of food like spinach or broccoli florets, but only about 1/2 cup of cottage cheese, Beans, or Greek yogurt. I can eat 3 to 4 ounces of lean chicken and fish. I can eat about 2 1/2 ounces of steak and roast beef. And my stomach talks all of the time! Very embarrassing at times! I just laugh at it!

a really good greek chicken recipe Marinade the chicken 2 hours in advance The marinade is a cup of greek yogurt, salt, the juice of one lemon, oregano, chopped garlic. Dice the chicken into about 1 inch pieces and put them in a bag with the marinade, toss it around so all the chicken is coated well. After 2 hours I put the pieces of check on a wooden skewer that I had soaked in Water ahead of time so they won't burn. In between the chicken I put pieces of bell pepper and red onion. Then I grill them until the chicken is cooked

How Often Do You Actually Cook?
Julie norton replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I cook 1-2 X per week. Chicken thighs. Enough for several days That is a for sure every week as it is just me.... Only if my grown kids come over can I be coaxed into Salisbury steak or meatloaf.... Not too much of a red meat person. We happen to have a restaurant in the family so once a week I'm picking up a salad or a wrap . Otherwise deli meat. Chicken salad. Eggs. Yogurt. Soup. I actually read that people who were successful at keeping weight off ate many of the same foods regularly. That is my deal and I hope to continue. December will be 9 years. Wow. It's just a regular habit now thankfully. Hope I can keep my band forever???? -
Hello all, I was sleeved on 9/9/15 so far so good. I have lost about 43 lbs and feel great. The cons: I have been trouble getting my Water in, cannot take my Multivitamin (makes me so nauseous), also I have been eating (for the most part) the same food (I.e. chicken, eggs yogurt, nuts) The pros: I love nuts eat them everyday, I am able to get my Protein in but 2 oz at a time, and I can't believe that I lost weight this fast my mind is still trying to catch up Just wondering what everyone else is going though and if you have any advice. Thank you!

Worried I can't do the pre-op diet!
jodyh55 replied to Castillo15's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try eating a little something every 3 to 4 hrs. I like stuff already portioned out, like Carb master yogurt. Also, measure out your water for the day. You can do it and you'll feel more in control when pre op starts. Good luck on your journey! -
The strawberry is my favorite. It's the only Greek yogurt I like.
