    Conversion surgery next week

I was on liquid for a few days Then soft food like yogurt and cream soups. Day 8 I had cheese and apples and my life is great. I can eat protein bars and ground turkey. I am supposed to get 60-85 grams of protein and 60 oz minimum water daily but I'm never hungry so it's a challenge. I drink a protein shake in the morning with my vitamins and meds. I don't miss anything I am committed to getting healthy and living a more active lifestyle. You are so fortunate to be having this surgery in time to raise your family in a health conscious way. You need to be careful and no heavy lifting for the first 2 weeks. I wish you the best. It is wonderful NOT to be hungry. Did you know the lap band actually increases hunger? Wicked huh?
  2. Definitely include some broths. I loved Swanson's Mexican Tortilla Soup broth. A little spicy so needs to be watered down a little. For shakes, one of my favorites was Orange Crush powder (like the sticks of Crystal Light) mixed with vanilla Protein powder (I LOVE Precision Engineered whey Protein Isolate vanilla) and 2 oz of fat free milk with 4 to 6 oz of Water and few ice cubes (or you can skip the milk and just use water). Tastes a bit like Orange Julius. After about 6 weeks post-op, I added in a very small bit of banana (like 1 oz or about 1/4th of medium banana). My other favorite shake is PB2 and chocolate powder. Also, once you can have pudding or yogurt, boost their protein with 1/2 scoop of Protein Powder (vanilla powder with Dannon Light & Fit Greek strawberry Cheesecake is really good). You can also use sugar free syrups (by Torani for example). Or mix in small bit of pudding mix. Here is a link to some good ones - http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2007/06/my-favorite-protein-shake-recipes.html Finally some people like the Isopure and nectar fruit flavored drinks. I hated them both but that's just me. Just remember that the first few weeks post-op are tough but you have to keep your eye on the prize and just power through it.

Protein Shakes - Do I have to?

The Protein helps in healing. You will have to try something. Can you have greek yogurt? Sip on some warm broth. Try Isopure zero carb, which is more like a clear fruity drink.

    Menu Plans & Ideas

I track everything on MyFitnessPal and have lots of MFP friends who do the same. My diary is open to friends. I suggest you get an MFP account, acquire friends who are post-wls, and peek in at their diaries to get ideas and inspiration. How much you eat, how often, calories, protein, etc. will vary a lot depending on what stage you are and what your doctor's guidelines are. When I was at your stage, my rules were: --no more than 800 calories per day --minimum 75 grams of protein per day --maximum 60 grams of carbs per day --3 meals per day, no more than 3 ounces of food per meal --no snacks other than calorie-free liquids and protein shakes --no grains, no sweets, no high-carb veggies such as potatoes, sweet potatoes, peas, or corn (which is actually a grain anyway, not a veggie). Within those rules, I could play around as much as I wanted. Typically I had something like Greek yogurt + berries for breakfast, diced chicken breast with green veggies for lunch, tuna salad & a poached egg for dinner, + 2 protein shakes.

    Got plastic surgery dates....

I reverted back to a lot of Protein shakes and meat. I had a body lift (which also included the tummy tuck; same as 360), spiral thigh lift and breast augmentation on June 9th. I am 5 months out. The doctor wanted me to get in a minimum of 100 grams of protein. So, I over shot and set my goal to 150 grams (which I was already used to, because my daily in-take of protein was at this level due to the intensity of the weight lifting program I was on). A chicken breast usually carries about 30-40 grams of protein. A can of tuna has almost 40. I would graze on these meats throughout the day, just prepared them in various ways so they would not get so "boring". Two 11 oz Premier Protein Shakes adds another 60 grams of protein; the rest would come from nuts, Greek yogurt, cheese, and other natural high protein foods. I was able to get back into the gym--slowly--at about 8 weeks. I do not do any core specific exercise, even though I they are targeted secondarily via other exercises, I am waiting for my 6 month post-op date to arrive to begin those types of exercises. Best of luck to you! I know how exciting the prospect of a new body is, especially after all that you have gone through to get there. It will be rough for a little while, but it is so worth it! Keep us posted!

    Ice cream?

What about no sugar added frozen yogurt? We have a summer home in a lovely resort that had an ice cream shop that people adore. I know I can't eat the ice cream, but they do offer the frozen yogurt (no sugar ADDED). I am two weeks pre-surgery. I suppose I'll have to ask for the nutrition label next summer when i get there....

    Pre op diet

I'm on day 2. 1200 calories or less. 150 grams carbs. 40 grams of fat max. The creamy box soups, V8 spicy, yogurt, jello and the protein shakes are my main staples. Just make sure I have something every hour or 2. Good luck! I'm too much of a scardy cat to cheat.

    Help!

I am almost 9 months out and I can eat about 2/3 cup of food like spinach or broccoli florets, but only about 1/2 cup of cottage cheese, Beans, or Greek yogurt. I can eat 3 to 4 ounces of lean chicken and fish. I can eat about 2 1/2 ounces of steak and roast beef. And my stomach talks all of the time! Very embarrassing at times! I just laugh at it!

    My Favorite Meal!

a really good greek chicken recipe Marinade the chicken 2 hours in advance The marinade is a cup of greek yogurt, salt, the juice of one lemon, oregano, chopped garlic. Dice the chicken into about 1 inch pieces and put them in a bag with the marinade, toss it around so all the chicken is coated well. After 2 hours I put the pieces of check on a wooden skewer that I had soaked in Water ahead of time so they won't burn. In between the chicken I put pieces of bell pepper and red onion. Then I grill them until the chicken is cooked

How Often Do You Actually Cook?

I cook 1-2 X per week. Chicken thighs. Enough for several days That is a for sure every week as it is just me.... Only if my grown kids come over can I be coaxed into Salisbury steak or meatloaf.... Not too much of a red meat person. We happen to have a restaurant in the family so once a week I'm picking up a salad or a wrap . Otherwise deli meat. Chicken salad. Eggs. Yogurt. Soup. I actually read that people who were successful at keeping weight off ate many of the same foods regularly. That is my deal and I hope to continue. December will be 9 years. Wow. It's just a regular habit now thankfully. Hope I can keep my band forever????
  15. Hello all, I was sleeved on 9/9/15 so far so good. I have lost about 43 lbs and feel great. The cons: I have been trouble getting my Water in, cannot take my Multivitamin (makes me so nauseous), also I have been eating (for the most part) the same food (I.e. chicken, eggs yogurt, nuts) The pros: I love nuts eat them everyday, I am able to get my Protein in but 2 oz at a time, and I can't believe that I lost weight this fast my mind is still trying to catch up Just wondering what everyone else is going though and if you have any advice. Thank you!
  16. Try eating a little something every 3 to 4 hrs. I like stuff already portioned out, like Carb master yogurt. Also, measure out your water for the day. You can do it and you'll feel more in control when pre op starts. Good luck on your journey!

    Happy girl right now!

So I hate protein shakes and have not been doing them at all and barely getting protein in and my doc is aware and I been trying to eat more things with protein. Welllllllll I went to market today and found oikos zero yogurt fruit flavored 15 grams protein for that little container!! Woohoo!! I never really looked because I thought there was only vanilla yuck!!! This is big for me right now you guys have no idea!! Lmao haha laughing at myself over how ecstatic I am.
  19. My surgery will be in Jan/Feb 2016, and I'm doing the same things. I second the exercise suggestion. The mythical "They" say it takes about 6 weeks to make something into a habit, so may as well start now with that! I purchased a bunch of Protein powder samples to try so I know which ones I will like and which I won't when the time comes. Someone said she wrote to the shake company and they sent her samples. Wish I'd thought of that! I've also been relearning my food and practicing with substitutes (e.g., how to make Greek yogurt taste like mayo to me). I've also been tracking both food and exercise in one of the free online fitness apps (fitday, myfitnesspal, etc.).

I Have Accepted That My Tummy

I am finding beans to be a good source of protien. I have made a few recipes with beans and they are delicious and easy to digest. I will pair the beans with cheese to get more protein. I am just over 10 weeks and still have protein powder for lunch(mix with yogurt and flavorings) to keep my protein intake up.

    Post-op diet week 3

Fat free refried beans with some cheese melted on top, hummus (with some unflavored protein powder mixed in), pimiento cheese (with unflavored protein powder mixed in), Greek yogurt (with vanilla protein powder mixed in), sugar free chocolate pudding snack (with chocolate protein powder mixed in). I also had some soups and tried to mix in protein powder or pureed chicken and that was a total fail. (Ugh. Still makes me shudder to think about it. ). I didn't do so well with the eggs. They got cold too quick. I finally solved that with a coffee cup / candle warmer and put my dish on it. That helped. Good luck!

    Post-op diet week 3

Thanks for the responses. Let's not get too complicated though, haha. Kate, yes, I did get instructions and some suggestions. It doesn't sound half-bad, but I'm looking for a little more variety and stuff that's easy to have at work where I've gone back to spending most of my life. -( The basics are in order of highest protein: 1.High Protein - fish, chicken, meat, Beans, soy (all pureed or flakey) 2.Milk, cheese, yogurt 3.Fruits, vegetables (I was excited when I first saw this, but that enthusiasm drained when I read further - "baby food fruits and vegetables, pureed canned fruits and vegetables, low fat creamed spinach, applesauce, pureed squash. 4. Grains, cereals - cream of wheat or farina, mashed potatoes, yummy oatmeal Pureed fish!! sounds yummy -) I have a new state-of-the-art Vitamix which I'd love to start using.
  23. I always mix mine with water as well. I may add a bit of greek yogurt, but that's it. Milk was more carbs than protein and simply not worth it. Especially since I don't drink cow's milk.
  24. I had surgery the 9th too. I'm feeling so hungry also drained and tired. Today I ate a little Greek yogurt and it helped a little meaning maybe 4 spoonfuls in 6 hours. Im not sure it was a good idea but it did help me a little with the hunger. I'm not a caffeine drinking so no headaches.
  25. Pre-Op Diet - Has anyone cheated? I started my diet on Wednesday. My diet consists of 4 Protein shakes per day but I can replace two shakes with either 4 eggs whites; fish, or chicken. I can have V8 juice; non fat yogurt, high protein Jello or pudding, and 64 ounces of Water. This is what my meal intake looked like today..: This morning I had my 4 eggs whites, 1/2 cut of oatmeal. Snack:protein shake; Lunch: I had fish and broccoli, Snack: 1/2 cup of high protein pudding. Drank water through out the day and was real hungry, Dinner: Protein shake / non fat yogurt I am in the mood for some garlic cheese just a bite, has anyone cheated on their pre op diet? if so how much? Does anyone's pre-op diet look like mine above? Please let me know.
