    April 2nd Sleeve_Suggestions

@@Nik1115 wow, i hear april 2nd is the best day in the world to have surgery!!! you are probably going through a bunch of mixed emotional feelings like many of us did being excited, scared, nervous, and back again suggestions.............. follow allll the rules you've learned from the board and your doc and NUT too !!!!! we are all wise beyond our years but we are not surgeons/docs/nuts we will support you - give you advice - but the final word should come from your doc/nut (even though we're frequently smarter be as prepared "mentally" as you can for having a "little" pain/discomfort after surgery maybe normal post op issues of gas/vomitting etc for the gas - walk as soon as possible in the hospital keep walking - that helps get rid of the gas if you are in pain - don't be shy about taking pain meds you might be tired for awhile when you get home get as much rest as you can, and then nap keep drinking, sipping - very important you can't afford to get dehydrated remember that you didn't wake up one morning and you were heavy you won't wake up one morning and be skinny either god grant me patience just hurry up about it!!!! take things slow expect the worse, and hope for the best!!!! all that being said - many/me had great recoveries hardly any issues many people returned to work within a few days, or a week never compare your weight loss/time period or anything with others "the one thing we all have in common is that we're all different"!!!! good luck wednesday speedy recovery kathy

    Any Baytown, Tx Bandsters?

Christie, Please send me an e-mail to jpifer@calpine.com and let me know how to contact you. We have about 3 or 4 people interested in a support group in Baytown, so I think it would work out fine. Please just let me know, we are all anxiously waiting. Thank you so much.

    Is there a problem here?

Carolina, I plan on making an appt for a nutritionist this week..I need options on what to eat..thanks for your post miz, I saw the surgeon and gave him the paperwork from my pcp I had an autonomic nervous system test and told him they said at ER it was basketball syncope thanks
  4. I'm almost 3 months out and I have loud gurgles for about 15 minutes after every meal and then it stops
  5. I'm still new here & still reading some of the stories and still pretty new to the surgery part (I had surgery on August 3rd). I had a really hard time early on with food, and even still some days I find it very hard to eat anything without feeling disgusted. My weight loss has been steady (it has slowed but my dr said that that is normal). That being said I have worked at eating better, and being 4 months post-op now it is much easier on me as far as eating goes. Has anyone experienced a gain of just a few pounds despite not changing anything eating habit-wise? I had a small gain (3 pounds, give or take), and I figured at this stage is abnormal. I have recently begun exercising daily (walking on my treadmill, using weights). I have an autoimmune disorder that causes pain/stiffness in my lower spine/hips/knee that makes it so I cannot do strenuous workouts, so I have to stick to walking. Could the adding of exercise cause such a small gain? I'm sorry if it seems trivial, and I suppose to a lot it might be a petty thing to worry about, but in my mind 2 or 3 pounds can (and has) turned into 5 and 10 pounds if you get the idea. My next appointment isn't until February so of course, I will talk to my doctor about it, but what are some of your experiences at this stage? Thanks for any info/advice!

    Hey! I’m the newbie [emoji4]

Sorry I am hearing 6 ounces and 8 ounces and your only a few days in, have you not got a limit your surgeon said you should follow? Stock is like water but I was not allowed more than 4 ounces per sitting of soup/yogurt/cream of wheat but could not manage that amount of soup. But its all fine aslong as your plan allows for that amount. How many calories is that a day? I am 3 months in and not. allowed over 800 cals, what you describe sounds more than that. Though all plans are different. You are not hungry you are still healing so the growling feels real but it settles. Eating after 10pm is a bad idea, hunger will not kill you so if your hungry after 10pm next time just wait till tommorow, you need to get into good habits.

7 days post OP still have draining tube

My surgeon said as a precaution. She’s a great surgeon so I trust her but it’s been hard. I just am sleeping maybe 3 hours a night. I’m dying for sleep and rest and a little more than liquids.
  8. Did anybody here come home with the draining tube from the hospital. I had surgery 12/31 and I came home with mine. I find it hard to get a comfortable sleeping position. Only two more weeks of all liquid diet for me. Mi can’t wait to have Greek yogurt or something more substantial.
  9. Definetly not the Monday after a Friday surgery. I didnt come home from the hospital until Monday. I went back to work the following Monday and was fine. You will need at least a week at home recovering and focusing on yourself and getting in your proteins etc. Dont rush it, I would of taken a second week, but like you needed to get back to work. 1 week off minimum. Good luck.!
  10. Everyone is SO different. I wasn't ready to get back to work for 3 weeks. The first two weeks I could hardly get out of bed and was so weak. I started working from home after 3 weeks and physically went back to work at 6 weeks. But part of the reason that I stayed away for so long is because my commute is 140 miles round trip and I didn't want to get that far away from home and not feel good. Most people I have talked to have gone back to work in 2-3 weeks.
  11. I thought i'd only take two days. Nope. it wasn't the pain, it was the exhaustion from such little nutrition. I'd say at least a week. I ended up havign to take it without pay. But it can be done.

    Halfway there! with pics!

I just had my consult with him last week, a good friend was sleeved 2 years ago and reached her goal of 100 lbs lost in 7 months...needless to say she HIGHLY recommended him! I think he is so nice! I am self pay and that is my only complaint, that his office hasn't been totally upfront about costs, they kinda like to bait-and-switch. But that's not him, that's his office manager. He is wonderful and seems to think that because my BMI is fairly low that I will do well...I'm a School Nurse and waiting until summer break so the wait is tough...June 18 is the date! Can't wait!!
  13. I completely understand! I got into tge teens this week, it made me feel like onederland is possible!
  14. I'm 6 days post op and I had lots of pain, and gurgling/noises from my stomach area. I have been walking as much as tolerable. Noises went away by the next day… Keep taking your pain meds, from what I've read on this forum, week 2 is much better. Hang in there! forgot to add that I had what you are feeling on day 4.
  15. Today is the day I had my surgery 4 weeks ago (1/5/14). I have three issues, perhaps you veterans may be able to help me? Problem #1: Since then - I cannot get liquids in. I have a hard time getting anything in. It's painful, and I feel like there is a lump or obstruction in the back of my shoulders - centered, not in shoulders as the gas was at first, and it's all about eating/drinking. So far, I found out that you can throw up even if you haven't eaten anything but three or four spoonfuls. This feeling also tells me that I will throw up if I take even one more spoonful, and I have, which is scary and terrible since this. (3 times throwing up is almost my lifetime of throwing up, so it's weird for me.) I cannot get the suggested food in, it's viscously painful and leaves me in terrible shape for over a half hour sometimes. So - recap: not able to drink more than 24 oz. daily, and nowhere near the food suggested. Problem #2: I have no energy. None. I mean, I have a hard time getting out of bed, and doing anything more than sitting on the couch. I only have three kids at home now, but still - three is enough for destruction, trust me. I have been swamped in laundry, the floors look like I blew up my cat and dogs, and I'm really not sure you'll stay disease-free in this house anymore. I bought the B-12 shots have sub-lingual B-12, still - to no energy. Has anyone else had this? Problem #3: This is the most dangerous, but I now am under the care of a wound care specialist. All my surgical openings are - open. They're deep, and ghastly looking. The nurses at the hotel in TJ for Jerusalem Hospital knew, they got really nervous, then called in a superior, he came in - after rapid-fire Spanish discussion - he said, no it's fine, just go home. Don't worry. Behind him, the other two nurses were looking like they didn't agree, and motioned so. Not the most pleasant way to go home all the way to the east coast. Now - I have deep, deep open wounds, they're going to be disgustingly large and will never heal in any way other than Frankenstein. I see the would care specialist every three days, and they're still debating cutting them all open and re-stitching them for five new scars, I suppose lesser than the big open pits - but no consensus on that. At least I'm under medical care. So much for not telling anyone. Can anyone help? Thanks!!!!

What Would You Say Was Standard?

During your stay in hospital, what would you say was standard with regards to your treatment? The nurses checked on me every 3 hours, gave me pain medication, took vitals etc. Is it standard to get the blood thinning injections during your stay (and some given for your return home)? I did received blood thinner meds. I was pretty much out of it, but I believe I got 4-5 injections. Is it standard to get the blood clot prevention boots after the operation? (They are like huge blood pressure cuffs that squeeze your legs). Yes, I had them. I only had to wear them the first day because I was not walking at all.. It actually felt like a nice massage . What were you offered by way of food and drinks? Was it bullion type broth, just Water etc? I was offered chicken broth, Jello, tea, Protein shake. Are you given any meds to go home with, and if so what? Percocete. Were you given information packs for your future eating, drinking regime? My doctors office had given me a great binder that broke down the meal phases, what to expect etc. Were you allowed to wear your panties during the operation? Maybe paper ones? Yes,I was on my period. So I got some cloth elastic ones. They actually weren't that bad. Does your nail varnish have to come off? Finger, toes or both? Nope. I actually had my toenails pained for new years. So it was still on, so was the clear enamel coat on my finger nails. The nurse actually made a comment that a lot of women have their toes done prior to surgery. Would be great if you could share your experiences. I'm not going to lie, I was in PAIN, but the hospital gave great pain meds (dilaudid and one other). I think having this drain in (until this Wednesday) has really had ALOT to do with my recovery. I'm hoping once it's out I will feel better. Getting anything in (water, protein, broth), has been extremely difficult. I haven't made goal....not even close. I'm not saying I wouldn't go back and do it again, cuz I definitely would. I'm just saying from my journey so far has been difficult. I can't wait for it to get better . Thank you X

    sad :(

Wait did you call this person a friend? I would hate to see an enemy! This is a life changing time for you and getting rid of toxic people could easily help you lose a few hundred lbs. I am almost 3 months out and saw my dietitian today. After the way in I was totally disappointed I had only lost 35 lbs since my surgery date. When the doctor came in the first thing she said was "congratulations on the good job you are doing, you have met our initial expectation of 35lbs in 3 months" (which was never told to me). I realized that I have been letting other people's opinions and journey get in the way of me appreciating my own. This is your journey don't let anybody steal your joy.

    Any good scar remedies?

I always understood that you shouldn't put any ointments or creams on fresh incisions. Check with you doctor before using anything on them. You don't want to risk infection. I only used alcohol wipes to make sure they stayed dry and clean. I am 9 weeks post op and my incision are slightly pink, two of the smaller ones you can hardly see anymore.
  20. Started my liquid diet today - I am miserable. I work 9 hour shifts on my feet 5 days a week, and after today, I am light headed and completely impatient. Makes me wonder how many people in customer service who are cranky and just annoyed and short with everyone are on this damn diet!! I've had Water all day, 3 Protein shakes - each of different variety, and 3 yogurts - also different brands. At a total of 780 calories, I feel I have eaten far from enough, and I feel sick to my stomach. I'm re-tasting the shakes, and just totally turned off of everything. How am I going to get the protein and calories I need, by also feeling full and not like I'm starving myself all day? If I stick to the Protein Shakes and yogurt, I'm gonna hate them really soon. Help!!! Feeling weak physically and mentally.

    Breath/ funky taste

It fades, just give it a 4-6 weeks. Sometimes it comes back. The worst was my wife's breath or anyone's breath for that matter. One week out I was in an elevator with about six other people it was awful.

    Psych evaluation

In December I thought the exact same thing! I had finally made the decision to have surgery and I wanted it NOW. But now here I am scheduled for surgery next week, all testing and medically supervised visits done and can't believe it went by so fast! Make use of this time. Start gradually making some changes in your diet, start being more physically active and gradually build up activity. Read as much as you can and think about what your routine will look like post surgery. Make a list of the things you are most looking forward to being able to do as the weight comes off - keep this list and look at it any time you start to second guess yourself or just need a little motivation.

    Scared! Pain ...

Ice cream, etc is on my avoid list until at least 6 weeks out... I wouldn't do that again for a while!!
  24. I jumped on the scale this morning because I'm obsessive. I had to re-weigh myself 3 times because I am at the lowest weight I've been in 5yrs. Which is kind of sad considering this morning I weigh 309.4lbs I'm looking forward to being under 300 for the first time in 8yrs soon. Oh and for congratulations sake.... December 2010 I weighed 351lbs SW Aprill 22nd 2011 I weighed 331lbs 1 Month out I weigh 309.4lbs For a Grand total of 41.6lbs lost since I started this journey and 21.6 lbs lost since surgery Maybe I'll make my 30th birthday Goal after all. 49 more pounds for that one!

    Insurance HelP!!!

Aww, I'm sorry. I was denied at first also. I never had to deal with insurance though. From day 1, my doctor said all he has to do is write them a letter detailing why I needed to convert and he thought I would be approved. I received a letter saying that I wasn't, that they needed more information. My doctor also received the letter as I was blind copied. He automatically sent them my whole chart showing all of my past visits from my lap band. A few weeks later, I was approved! Good luck!
