    6 Days Out Feeling Great!

The nutritionist at my surgeons office said a week clear and a 2 weeks full, my surgeon on the other hand when reiterated what my nutritionist said stated try to follow it, but you can try some soft things a little earlier, so I did, just be careful, and eat very very slowly, also I chew until its basically liquified. Just let your body be the judge if it hurts stop eating it, as far as tuna, I due the bumble bee prime fillet (gold can) target has the best price, and I only use honey mustard, if u gotta have mayo use the hellmans with olive oil very lowfat and half the calories, honey mustard sound gross but its great, be sure to use french's honey mustard, not the salad dressing honey mustard, that stuff is a zillion calories, my personal favorite, is shoprite brand honey mustard, if there is shoprite grocery chain in your area get that brand, there both only 10 calories a serving. This is what has worked for me, BY ALL MEANS, follow what your team instructed you to do, If you find yourself skipping ahead dont go overboard, low fat, high protein is still what we should be reaching for no matter what!
  2. Hi, Apologies I am a complete newbie in terms of forums, blog sites etc. I posted the below as a reply initially as didn't know how to post, so please bear with me if you have already read it/responded to it. I've just been sleeved as well. Surgery was 23rd Feb 2010 so am now 11 days out. The surgeon said I should have 2-3 yoghurts and a good bit of Soup before they would let me out of hospital. They forgot this bit and let me out after 1 yoghurt, which took about an hour to eat. I am just able to sleep on my stomach now (as of last night), thankfully but not sleeping great anyway. Up til stupid oclock in the morning as just not tired. The acid reflux was horrendous at first and could not be controlled but now it has gone completely and it appears so has all the very uncomfortable gas. I am a little concerned as don't really know if i'm eating enough/too much. Not had any discomfort, should be on liquid for 14 days but was told to eat yoghurt, custard, jelly & Soups etc from day 1, but after 15 days of pre op liquids couldn't stomach any of these except the custard. I have been living on fruit juice and apple sauce with custard (without limit) and have had some ready brek for the last couple of days. I have never really had a "full" or heavy feeling. I am not making huge quantities but worried that this is not normal. I haven't felt hungry but do get an empty feeling. I am supposed to start mushies on Tuesday which I am pleased about as I think I am ready for some variety now. I am feeling a bit worried as I don't "feel" any different really. I did the first couple of days as it took about an hour to eat a yoghurt but now, no problem. I am also concerned that I lost 14lbs the first week after surgery and then...Nothing.Nada, Zilch. I have only been to the bathroom once since I had surgery as well (despite taking lactulose) Is this normal Further to this, I have to have DVT injections and I have been getting really cold since surgery, don't know if this is due to thinning of the blood or the reduction of the insulation. I was particularly cold today so opted for a nice hot bath this afternoon and when I got out and was drying myself off I went all light headed and the room started spinning. I had to go and lie down on the bed for about 10 minutes cos thought I was going to pass out. Loving this site been on here all day, it's very inspiring and we have nothing like this in the UK. I was told that I am the first to have a sleeve at the hospital I went to they only really do bands and bypasses. I did actually explain to one of the nurses what I was having done and why because she had never heard of it. Not very encouraging I have to say, however the surgeon I had is the best in the country thankfully.
  3. I've been exercising more and watching what I eat. I've lost a few pounds but nothing dramatic. My PCP told me I had to lose 10 lbs in 2 months and I went on a mostly liquid diet to lose those 10 lbs. I haven't been perfect doing proteins and staying away from sugar for the past week and I've gained a pound. I need to reset and get back on my diet of lean proteins and no sugar. I'm no were near a pre op diet yet.

    April sleevers

I'm on pins and needles waiting hear back from Aetna! My paperwork was submitted last Thursday, and I know it could take up to 10 days. But I've read posts from others who got their approval in 1-2 days, so I'm crossing my fingers that I hear soon. The anticipation is killing me!
  5. idahoanmom

    April Surgery Date!

My preop diet is to lose 5% in 90 days or 10% if I don't do 5 in 90. I just had a weigh in ...down 3...amazingly...and have 5 to go! Asked the coordinator about preop diet...she said I am on it. I am doing a protein shake in am then 2 or 3 times a day I can have salad, chicken or fish and cottage cheese as much as I want but only as much as I can eat in 20 minutes. Set a timer then once it goes off we are done! 60 oz of water too.
  6. Hi Ladies so I'm 10 days post op and still on the all liquid diet and my daughter came home yesterday and said that the 4 th graders were throwing a luncheon and serving there mothers a yummy Italian dinner friday olive garden is actually donating the bread sticks and there even putting cute little mustaches on them the kids lol I don't know what to do I don't want to not go it would break my daughters heart but I don't want to be around all that yummy food would it hurt me to eat a small amount?? I don't know if my will power is strong enough to sit there while all my friends r scarfing down lol

    Mothers Day Schoo Luncheon

I think you should definitely go spend time with your daughter ...can you maybe bring a drink or some soup to have while others are eating? I also wasn't hungry at that stage, so being around food didn't bother me much, but I don't know how it is for you...10 days seems way soon for pasta and breadsticks and whatnot...I had someone suggest that I say I'd just gotten over a stomach bug and didn't have much of an appetite to explain why I wasn't eating as much as everyone else. I didn't end up doing that, but it might work to fend off people who will be asking why you aren't eating...just a thought.

    NOT DOING WELL

I am pre-op as well and have done so much research that I feel that the benefits outweight the risks for me. I am so sorry to hear that you were sick for 10 weeks but now that is over right? and now you just want to continue on the weight loss track. I know that we all want the big numbers and the differences to show quickly but if you have lost 27 lbs in 3 months, if you stay on this weight loss pace that is over 100 lbs in a year! I do not know how much you want to lose to reach your goal, but don't get discouraged and I know that is easier to say than do, and know I do not say it lightly. I do not know who your surgeon is/was but you need to find another physician and find one your trust. We are all here to listen but I think 27 lbs in 3 months is a good number the part that concerns me is your ill feeling and that you dont fall into a depression. There are lots of docs find one you can trust.

    6 Days Post Op

Hey Chav1, Listen girly, you could be my surgery clone. I had my sleeve done 7/16 and also had the swelling. It hurt each time I took a sip of Water. I had go back on iv's and stayed 5 full days in the hospital hooked up to them. When I left it literally took me an entire day to drink a bottle of water 16oz. I am two weeks out today and can only get down 2 bottles of water. I know others who were drinking their 64oz and going back to work a week later. I still hurt and my doctor gave me an additional week off. Trust me it gets better. Really I would say it has only been about 4 days that I have felt somewhat human. I cannot even keep a multi Vitamin down but am able to eat soft foods. I have even lost 19 pounds. Still hoping to soon feel completely back to normal. Best of luck and hang in there. I didn't expect it to be this hard either.

    lapband not working

TO DAISY MAY: I just read your post when you had gotten the 4th fill and finally felt what everyone was talking about with regards proper restriction. I know that was some time ago but I am wondering how things are going for you still? I had my band 2 years ago and have had 6 or 7 fills I havnt lost any weight in fact i have gained 10 or 15, my fill right now sounds just like what you described in your post, eat a little slower and somewhat less but not really enough to make a big difference. I thought that I was just one of those that it didnt work for but I am going to go in and get another fill after reading your post I think maybe I just dont have enough of a fill even though I have about 8 cc in a 10 cc band. The last fill ( 1year ago) did give me some restriction but I could easily eat 2.5 to 3 cups of food. I think the amount that you had mentioned ( green salad and 1/2 chicken breast) is what I am wanting that sounds like about 1 to 1/2 cups of food. (I am new on this site and I am still not figuring out how to send a post so that the original post that I am responding to sees it, so I hope "DAISY MAY"sees this. Thanks all
  12. I do. 10 days of Carnation Instant Breakfast with milk. Nothing else
  13. Had Surgery 5.22.12 & very happy to report that I feel great! Traveled 2.5 hours to Washington DC was able to walk 3.5 miles to visit the MLK, Washington, Jefferson, and Lincoln Memorials. Did all of that walking in 95 degree weather on a Greek yogurt and a bottle of Dasani Water! Just made it back to NJ and had my dinner, Sabras Garlic Hummus, and Solid White Tuna, no mayo but made with french's honey mustard (10 calories) I encourage all of my co recent bandsters to get moving, allow the band to restrict your intake, and allow your excercise to burn off the pounds!
  14. @@KristenLe I do! It feels amazing to be perfectly healthy. I never thought it would happen, really. I truly believed I was just going to suffer on until I died before I turned 30... what a turnaround the past two years have been. :') @@4u2nvyme I use this https://store.bariatricpal.com/collections/patchmd/products/multivitamin-plus-patch-30-day-supply Just make sure if you try it that you put it on an area that has the least amount of subcutaneous fat. I usually go for under my collar bone or on a shoulder blade. Also make sure you take it off after no more than 10 hours or so, because I found that if I left it on overnight my skin sometimes got a bit irritated. Nothing terrible, though.
  15. It has been a marathon of activity since surgery. The journey started 8/3/16. Home 8/4 - could've stayed another night but couldn't do it. The idea of laying around the hospital when that could be done at home sold me on leaving. Only had anti-inflammatories at home and was back to work on 8/8/16. They were half days and I had some support through Wednesday, 8/10. Since then it has gotten busier & busier. Switched to baby food/purées. Transitioning to fork smashed this week. Today was the first day of school. I still have not vomited but have experienced all steps leading up to dumping last night. Sleepiness. Dizziness. shakes. Chills. Slept 10+ hours and had a tough morning. Trying to get in 40-60 oz H20 and eating baby food since it is convenient and variety is easy to manage. HW: 355 Lost about 30 since surgery (in just under 3 weeks) CW: 301 It is time for advice. I have to go to the university tomorrow night and Thursday for the next 4 months. I leave for my day to start at 6:20 AM and will get home around 9:30 PM. Exhaustion has been setting in around 8:00 PM. I was thinking of packing variety for tomorrow's long day with supplies for shakes as needed... up to 4. I don't want to risk sleepiness driving home but want to continue progress so I'll pack Oikos as well as Water and Vitamin water + all the pills and meds. I need survival ideas. Progress has been good & I want it to continue. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Am I doing the right thing?!

@@kerryberry16 Hi there! I just want to say that it is perfectly normal to have these doubts once you are set to have surgery. After all, it is a big one that will require a lot from you. I am 53, I was 310lbs at 5'10" when I had RNY. I had type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, severe gerd, sleep apnea, anemia, stage 3 kidney disease. It was the kidney disease that came from years of obesity that was the straw for me. A lot of these illnesses came on fast and when one came the other was right around the corner. My nephrologist (kidney specialist) is the one who suggested I consider WLS. He made sure that i understood that window was very small given my declining kidney function. If I got to a point where I was too sick, they would not operate. It took 9 months to get through the 6 month process from start to finish and by the time I got there I was so ready to have this done that if anything delayed it I became emotional. I just knew that having bypass was going to help me get control of my weight which in turn would Help me become healthier. That was what it was all about for me. Well I had my surgery nearly 2 years ago. Within 3 months ALL of my comorbitities were in remission including my kidney function. I was able to stop taking 8 prescriptions for things I simply did not suffer from. This surgery literally gave me back my life. That being said, it is NOT easy in any way, shape or form. Most bypass patients DO NOT get dumping syndrome. I believe the number is only about 30% and it usually stops after the first year or so. Some suffer with it longer. I tell you this mostly so that you know, you will likely not have it. Those that do get it really wish they didn't. The surgery really helps you control quantity of food at any one given time. You have to make the changes to your diet to put the right things in there the right amount of times per day. Now is the time to begin to make lots of changes. Many of us had food funerals, it is only natural to want to try the things that you think you will never have again. The reality is, you will be able to enjoy most foods just in smaller quantities. Don't let that fear change where you are headed. I am one of those people that waited way too long to have this surgery and nearly killed myself in the process. It caused me to develop severe osteoarthritis of the spine, shoulders and knees. Over the last 14 years I have had 6 back surgeries with 2 of them being after bypass. I also had to have my left shoulder rebuilt because of bone on bone arthritis. I am literally disabled because I allowed myself to continue down a deadly path with obesity. RNY is the best thing that ever happened to me and if I had to do it over again, I would do it 10 to 15 years sooner before all the damage to my body. Even with such severe osteoarthritis, I feel fantastic!!! Every single day is like a new birthday for me because I am not sick. I LOVE food. Its just a different food that I now crave. I was a sugarholic! After RNY your tastes really do change and you learn to love good quality Protein, good carbs like fruits and veggies. Yes, I do eat sweets now and then but I have learned to control myself. My nut taught me to believe everything in moderation and to eat a balance meal. After losing the first 50lbs, my activity level increased. My feet no longer hurt, my ankles and knees both improved dramatically. I was able to get up and down stairs without keeling over from lack of oxygen. LOL. Don't let your fears stop you from doing what you need to do to get healthy. You started this process for a reason, stay focused on that reason. Less than 5% of people are successful losing this kind of weight on their own and keeping it off long term. That is the key, keeping it off. Maintenance is hard work and you always worry about regain. The good news is, once you have RNY the tool is always there for you. You just need to build good eating habits. 90% of your weight loss will come from diet. I wish you the best of luck with this and I hope that you are able to get to a place where you are content with your decision.

    Surgery Is May29Th

I am also being banded on the 29th.. I started the liquid diet on Tuesday but by today was miserable. I was having nausea as well as diarrhea. I had lost 8 pounds since Tuesday because I didn't feel like eating. My MD took me off it and said just to eat what I have been eating. I eat very healthy just too much normally! So the nausea is gone and I am not dehydrated by this afternoon. It would have been a very long 10 more days. Tomorrow I am doing a fundraising walk for Crohns and Colitis and now I feel like I can actually do it. Looking forward to hearing from all of you May 29th people!
  19. I have BCBS of NJ but haven't submitted to the insurance company yet. I see the doctor on 10/1/14 and am hoping they submit to the insurance company right after that. I will keep you posted. I can say that I didn't have a problem being approved with the band and another surgery to fix the band. I'll keep you posted on my progress.

    Successfully banded 12/3/14

Hi all, This will be a long post about my journey 6.5 weeks post-op and its a bit tough (like everyone else's!) So I have not updated in a while due going through a major stall. After surgery my weight went up 5lbs, dropped by 4 then again up by 2. I started feeling very lousy and discouraged. Was blaming it all on the fill... etc (naturally) But little by little I regained my will, well still trying, Put reminders to eat slow, eat little, drink Water and exercise will beep on my phone FOREVER. Yes, every 30 minutes I set up my phone to drink water. Funny when my hubs is at home he counts how many I missed I have 25 oz bottle and know exactly how much I drink. Four of those and I feel accomplished. Three and I am happy too! Two I know I have to get back on track. I can gulp for now as I am only 2cc so pretty loose. Second, I log my food on MFP for nutrients counting. Started right when I finished cake from my son's 2nd bday... I have now the 2 bad days to compare with... then I threw out all the sweet stuff (except my dark chocolate!). I still cheat a tiny bit (i know, booooooo!) my hubby had to make homemade ice-cream! but I only had a cup about when I had 300 cal def and made him feel so guilty for making ice-cream and not frozen yogurt haha Plus I walk 1.5 - 2 miles at least 5 days a week. Wish I could do 3 miles, but my little monster gets annoyed. Plus weather in NYC is not so friendly. No excuses, so I did my first day of exercise following an app on iPhone. Just 19 minutes, light one to prove how out of shape I am! Still soar and feels great. So thats it, eat & count calories, carbs, fat and Protein. Eating about half a cup per meal. Drinking water every 30 minutes, but not 30 min before and after meals and get moving! Oh and I did buy Alex & Natalie's "The big book on lap band" just for support still reading ... Finally, I am down to 225.8 lbs! Its a tough journey but I chose the perfect tool. Thank you for reading and hope to hear some stories too. lula
  21. The first week is tough. I was able to get up and walk to the restroom and around the house a little before sitting back down again. By week 2, I could be up and walking for 10-15. Give yourself the downtime you need right now and don’t stress too much. You’ll be up again in no time so long as you don’t go beyond the limits your body is telling you to stay at good luck!

    Show some skin?

Becky, I'm 44 as of July of this year. I think as long as you do some sort of walking or exercise most days, you wont have a big problem. I walked mostly and did some zumba, elyptical, etc. I was not consistent with it but for the most part, I exercised about three days a week or so. This summer I didnt do anything really. It was hot and I just wasnt motivated. I did start jogging/walking in early october and finished my first 5k in 36:10! I was very pleased with myself for that. I am only three weeks out from my plastics so I cant exercise for a few more weeks but I plan to train for another 5k or maybe even a half marathon. I enjoyed it, if you can believe that. Just follow the rules the best you can and get some exercise in. You are young. Believe in yourself!

    Show some skin?

I have a collage that shows my before in a swimsuit, my after in a swimsuit and my after plastics in a swimsuit. I looked fine in my bikini before plastics, but after is even better. I have to say that I lost another 10 pounds after the second bikini shot in the blue bikini was taken. I looked even better in it, except it got too big. I had plastics three weeks ago so now its better than ever. I didnt HAVE to have plastics done to wear a bikini, thats the point Im trying to make here. Good luck to you!

    I Got Approved!

CONGRATS!!! If you have questions just ask and there are a lot of wonderful and helpful people here. Start measuring your food with a 1/2 so you have smaller portions. Don't have anything to drink when you eat so you get use to that. Also carry around something to drink all the time and take sips every 10-15 minutes. Don't eat junkfood. Start taking Vitamins so that way your use to having them daily. Hope this helps
  25. Wow you guys are SO encouraging! I have hope that my size 10 isn't unrealistic! YES!!! @@chip305 that's freaking amazing! 2.5 months out and already out of plus sizes? I can't WAIT!!! I'm at a tight 18 or a normal 20 now so it sounds like we are similar! Same height too.
