    5 hour energy?

I have lost a lot of weight and so much energy but no matter how much you loose. 4 to 5 hours of sleep is not enough. Sometimes that just happens and I have to make it up somehow.

Wow, you guys are ALWAYS right!!! LOL

I would never laugh at that, I'm so proud of you for getting out there and giving it a go. And it doesnt matter how fit you get, there's always someone fitter, I feel embarrassed posting my times on cool running for fun runs and such, I am slow slow slow! But exercise seems to be the one thing people are just so stubbourn about, and to me, its way easier if you loathe it, to force yourself into a 40 minute run or swim or whatever, than the work you put in day in day out not eating what you crave, sticking with what you should eat, counting those calories. Truly, exercise is the easy part. Just grit your teeth, and do it. It honestly makes SO much difference and when you get to the weight maintenance part, well you wont be successful without it, guaranteed. Lots of cardio keeps weight off, combine it with strength training and you will look sensational!
  4. For some reason I suddenly feel my sternum, poking down between my ribs. WTH???? I've never felt this before. I thought I might be feeling the band, but I think the band is deeper inside me so I'm assuming this is breastbone. But Why have I never felt it before?? I haven't lost that much weight. Some, but it's not like I'm skinny or anything... It may be your port you are feeling. Mine is placed right around that area and I have been able to feel it since surgery. I know my sleep cycles have also been mixed up a bit since surgery. Some nights it is hard for me to get to sleep and other nights (like last night) I was asleep by 6:30 pm!

    Happy Endings!

Well here is my story, I'm sitting here in my living room thinking how good I feel, I just got home from my daily trip to the gym, yes I'm sweaty and tired but 3 months ago I could barely walk to the bathroom without being out of breath, I had high blood pressure, heart problems, back problems, swollen legs and ankles, headaches every day, I was in MISERY! I started this journey at 334 lbs and today I weight 259 lbs, that's 75 lbs gone forever! This is the best decision I could have ever made for myself and I would do it over again in a heartbeat! My husband has been telling everyone that he feels like he's having an affair because my whole body has changed. Here are some pics of before and 75 lbs down, I still have 80 more to go.

2 weeks post op and a stall

Weighing the same from week 1 to week 2 is not a stall. Not losing weight in one week does not mean the sleeve is not working. Paitence is important. Make sure you are drinking enough water too. It is working you lost alot pre surgery so maybe your body is just catching up.

    Calorie Question

I weigh approximately 118 pounds and maintain my weight on 1900 to 2100 calories per day. Who in their right might would want to restrict to the 800-1000 range for maintenance? As the previous poster mentioned, those who restrict for too long destroy their metabolisms. The term is called metabolic derangement. At 3 to 4 months out I was eating about 1000 calories daily. By 6 months I had bumped it up to 1200, and by 9 months I was eating about 1400 to 1500 calories. By 12 months out I was up to 1700, and by 18 months I got up to 1800 to 2000. I am so glad I gradually raised my caloric intake in increments because it kept my metabolic rate in high gear. I am figuratively dancing on a cloud about being able to maintain on 2000+ calories a day.
  8. I am only 18 years old and was just banded on Thursday. The reason I got the band is a little different than most but i am still grateful for the opportunity. When I was 14 I was diagnosed with a some medical problems that no normal 14 year old should have to worry about. I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, or PCOS, Hypothyroidism, and very high cholesterol. I grew up in a very active family; my mom is a personal trainer and dietitian so I was definitely a healthy active kid. However, for some weird reason, I was very over weight despite being on my school's swim team, soccer team, and having a personal trainer. I got on medications for the problems in hopes that it would take care of my weight issues. They helped a little but I continued to struggle all through high school with my health despite my activity level and healthy eating. It was so frustrating! Then I went off to college and it got even more difficult in the fact that I was being a dumb college kid and not eating like I should since mommy wasn't there to tell me what to eat (you would think I would have learned after 18 years of it, but alas I did not). I got to a really low place with my self esteem and my health and was very discouraged and very down. I thought that I would have to struggle and be over weight for the rest of my life and that got me really down. Then I heard about the lap-band. I did my research and found that the lap band has helped a lot of people with their PCOS (which is my biggest issue in terms of weight gain)!! I was thrilled! I knew this procedure would be life changing for me and I am so grateful for all the support I have received throughout my journey. This procedure is a blessing for me. I know it will be hard but I know I can do it and am looking forward of a healthier future! I'm only 6 days post op and it has been a hard 6 days but I am getting better everyday. The pain is not pleasant but it is getting better. I do have quite a bit or soreness at the port site but that was expected. I can't wait to see what the band does for me.
  9. As other's have stated here, you need about 4 to 6 weeks to heal up before you can start doing more strenuous workouts such as weight lifting, swimming, etc. Trust me when I say walk, walk, and walk as much as you can doing those first few weeks after surgery. It does help out, especially with the bowels and needing to pass stool. As for the feeling tired, yup. You aren't getting in nearly as much nutrients as your body was use to so you're burning up that energy really fast. I think for the first month and a half post surgery for me I spent as much of my free time as possible sleeping. That also helped me not think about all the food I was missing too. But that was probably just my thing. The food mentals.

  11. I'm nervous - I have my psychologist appointment on Thursday and I'm still have between 3-5 pounds to meet my goal weight, depending on when I weigh myself and what I'm wearing. I thought I read somewhere if I'm with 5 lbs of goal weight, I would still get my surgery scheduled. Does anybody know? Thanks.

Lost 70 lbs, feel the same

I've read that once we lose our extra weight we will still have basically the same body shape, just smaller. Can't beat genetics I guess. Have you ever done any body shaping exercises?? For me, when I do strengthening and toning (weights, resistance bands, pilates) I notice more changes in my shape than at any time I've lost weight.
  13. I am over 4 years post-op RNY gastric bypass surgery. I was taking 5 prescription medications prior to surgery (2 for diabetes, 2 for high blood pressure, and 1 for asthma). Now I take none. I took some supplements (vitamins, minerals) prior to surgery. Now I take more. But the cost of the added vitamins is less than the cost of the prescription medicines that I use to take. So I am money ahead. I also had severe acid reflux prior to surgery. That is gone now. I had sleep apnea. I would keep my wife awake at night, all night long because she was a light sleeper, prior to surgery. Several months after surgery, I would find her hovering over my bed at night. I would ask her what she was doing and she said, I was sleeping so silently, that she thought I was dead and she was trying to see if I was still breathing. I had several other conditions as well that went into remission after the surgery. Before you make up your mind about which surgery, it might be good to listen to what your surgeon recommends. Also some insurance companies will pay for one type of surgery but not the other. So it is worth investigating this element. As far as your specific questions: ▪️can you stretch your sleeve/bypass easily? Since I have an issue with portion control, this is a major concern for me. I believe the answer is NO, stretching is a myth. ▪️Is dumping syndrome really helpful or is it not worth it? Helpful ▪️Bypass patients: let's say I can control the Vitamin deficiency issue with supplements and the dumping syndrome issue with cutting out sugar and fats as best I can, do you think it was worth the complications (gallstones, stoma obstruction, etc)? I did not experience complications. Also right after surgery, your body may reject fats and sugars because the part of the stomach that normally processes these has been cut away but as time goes on at about a year, your intestines will realize something is wrong and step up to the plate and your body will again be able to absorb these food types without dumping. I had a major sweet tooth prior to surgery and this contributed to my weight and to my diabetes. So I have to avoid sugars like a plague. I rely on natural no calorie sweeteners (such as stevia) and synthetic sweeteners (such as Splenda) to put the sweetness back into my life.
  14. Annoyied. I've finished all my Options classes through Kaiser but I lagged on doing my Psych evaluation. If it were done prior to finishing my pre-op classes I probably would already have my final meeting with the Surgeon and a step away from getting my surgery date. This is just going to push everything further out. I'm scared because I've only lost 5 pounds during my pre-op weight loss classes and I don't want to gain those back since now I'm basically on my own without support from my classmates. It sucks. It's so damn easy to put on the weight but so hard to loose. =(

    Strict doctor's orders

Yeah, not be totally contrarian here, but what is the point of being exessively strict? We have hundreds of bandsters here who had the standard 4 week transition; clear, full, mushy, and then real food. I think we can safely say the overwhelming majority of those bandsters have had no problems. Is the strict clear liquid diet just to speed weight loss? It seems like it negates the whole point of having safe, slow weight loss with the band. Not to mention making you INSANE with thoughts of food! Ok, end of rant. Carry on.

    Twoterville at last!

I'm almost giddy with excitement that my weight starts with a "2". It has been longer than I can remember since I have been here and I'm so psyched. I received a jawbone 24 for Christmas and I think this will really help me continue my journey. Does anyone else have one? Its one of those things you wear on your wrist that tracks your steps, calories burned, reminds you to get up and move if you have been idle too long, tracks your goals, monitors your sleep patterns, all kinds of things! Anyway....I wanted to share. I have perma-grin today. Onward!!! and happy new year!

    Fyi, A Pound Of Muscle.....

Yeah, people just misquote what they are trying to say. It's a density factor. We learned that way back in chemistry in high school. There is dry weight, Fluid weight, space and mass; so many factors. If you asked a person, " which will fall faster if dropped off of a building; a marble or a feather?" the majority of people will say the marble. Truth is (according to physics) they fall at the same rate. Gravity pulls on a mass at the same rate whether it be a feather or a marble. So why does the marble get there first? Density and no air resistance. If there were no air they would hit the ground at the same time. Every substance has a nuclear weight. The higher the nuclear weight the denser the substance. All pounds are created equal, but fluid ounces or packaged ounces are not. One gallon of Water weighs about 7# where as 2 fl oz. of liquid mercury weighs around 2#. So when someone says, "Muscle weighs more than fat" it is semantics. Are we talking pound for pound or volume for volume? I out weigh my mother-in-law 80 pounds and we wear the same size clothes now. So my weight has to be denser than hers. When I was going to curves years ago, the owner told me when she started she was 160 and a 16. Now she is 160 and an 8. She traded her volume hogging fat pounds for the denser more attractive muscle pounds. This is why we shouldn't get fixated with the number on the scale, but watch the one on the tape measure. #1 science nerd signing off here  Sent from my iPhone using VST

    Fyi, A Pound Of Muscle.....

Muscle does weigh more than fat. Of course, a pound of muscle and a pound of fat weight the same (ha!), but a CUP of muscle would weigh more than a cup of fat, or any such measurement you choose. And I agree on the "gained three pounds" of muscle thing overnight doesn't make sense. However, hard workouts that tax muscles do result in weight gain for some people because they retain Water while the muscle is healing, and then the water is released, usually within 24 hours.

    Stuck

well not that I'm ANYWHERE near goal but the lower your bmi and weight the harder it is for your body to consistently lose. When you intensify your workouts you don't want to get so low in calories it is unhealthy. That will tell your body to hold onto some of the weight til your glycogen is back up to proper levels. Great job so far,

    Menopause, now spotting??

I am right there with you, basically they explained it as women store estrogen in their fat and as you lose weight the estrogen is set free upon our bodies and that causes strange menstral issues... I thougth I was done too, but alas, not so after losing 20 lbs.
  23. Miss Mac here.....Yesterday, I finally got my insurance approval after four months of program compliance. Now I understand what others were talking about concerning a combination of relief and sheer panic. My sleeve date is December 23, going home on Christmas day.......so shopping is done and gifts are distributed. Everybody is doing their celebrating at someone else's house this year. That way, I can come home with my sweetie and relax and heal. Thankfully, I did well enough with the pre-op weight loss - 25 pounds - that I only have to do the liver shrinking liquid diet for one week. My supplies are in and this is getting real. See you all on the other side of the losers' bench after the holidays.
  24. I just scheduled my surgery for September 25th! I am a self-pay, because my insurance won't cover anything related to weight loss. It's a huge bummer, but I'll just deal with it, because I am going to be so much happier about me!! I can't wait to start this journey, and I'm so happy to have you all trucking right along with me! Congrats to all of you that will be having your surgery in this great month! Now....on to ALL of the other pre-op appointments....and learning not to chug a drink! :whoo:
  25. I have been a bad bandster I am two yrs post op and havent lost weight since last january. Lately I have been eating unhealthy and not very motivated to better myself. I think alot of it is being complacent in life...new boyfriend..bought a house...and just happy in general. Now my problem is keeping food down. If I dont eat throughout the day then I cant eat without vomiting. I need to start with lots of liquids and almost stretch out my stomach. Once I do that I have a good chance of eating more than just soup. I havent had a fill in a year and a half and dont know if its too tight or just my fault for not following the rules. I dont have pain unless I need to throw up...no heartburn or nausea. But I am hungry....alot. I only eat one good meal every three or four days. Other than that its just snacks or ice cream to get me through. I feel like I am failing myself and the band...please help!
