They tell you pre-op that carbonation is something you should give up forever. It can potentially stretch your new stomach and cause issues. I know some people do return to drinking carbonation, a few report they don't have problems. But nearly all bariatric surgeons will say adamantly that you should not do this. You go through a lot of trouble to have your stomach size reduced...why would you want to expand it? Sad as it might be, you might want to find a replacement for that particular habit. (and I sympathize...I miss carbonation, too...but don't want screw up something I worked so hard to achieve)

January/February 2018 Sleevers
kakatlady612 replied to breprih's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Looks like a lot of you have Valentine week,as your surgery date, would, have liked mine then but I think I'll be more like St Patrick's Day, if they moved forward this coming week that's how far ahead they are booking. Dang it ,I'm an impatient puddycat, feel like I've been waiting forever for this date with destiny. And my BBF (that's Bariatric Friend Forever) has been jerked around even longer, gone from November to,possible March/April, she may moult or be down to pinfeathers before it happens. Not fair to happen to a fine feathered fowl like her.!! Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app -
It’s NOT a DIET!
Connie Stapleton PhD replied to Connie Stapleton PhD's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
I can't say for certain the reason(s) patient treat the lifestyle as a 'diet.' Perhaps one reason is that many patients are so used to living on a 'diet' they are like a fish out of water if they are NOT on a diet! It saddens me to think that bariatric treatment teams act as though patients are on a 'diet' following surgery. It's really about a healthy lifestyle to include a healthy diet (meaning the foods you eat, as opposed to a diet like Jenny Criag or the like). -
Bariatric Vitamins
Seahawks Fan replied to Seahawks Fan's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Weird I showed those to my Dietician and he said those were fine. He also gave me the sample of the bariatric vitamins and said they had everything I need except calcium. Is there such a thing as too much B12 & if so what would it do? -
My Dietician gave me a sample of these & I went ahead & ordered them. I like the idea of everything I need in one tablet & the price is right. I paid around $15.00 for two 30 day supplies.

Protein? What’s that??? Lol i don’t focus on any macro or micro nutrients, just good wholesome foods. I’ve also read the book by bariatric surgeon Dr Garth Davis, called Proteinaholic. He’s got loads of sources and science behind the western diet craze of protein, specifically animal proteins. It’s a great read if you’re interested.

Dr. David Kim patients
Oochie replied to twinmommy2004's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Neil! I have not yet met dr. Castro. I will meet him on 1/24. That is my preop appointment and bari university (where you learn all you need to know). I am flying down the 23rd, back on the 24. Then flying back down on the 28th for surgery on the 29th. My post op is on 2/2 and they said I can go home that day. I'm going home on 2/4. I happen to have an aunt in Dallas, so I am staying with her. They told me to plan 10 days, which I guess total it is. I decided to go home after my preop to save a couple days vacation. I was a bit frustrated at the beginning of the process. Everything was done via email, which is fine, but this is a big decision and I felt like I didn't have any info. I explain this to them and they immediately sent me a ton of information as well as the bariatric University book early. -
Anyone with this insurance have any insight to the approval process and their criteria? I'v heard its one of the more easier insurance companies to deal with and get approval from. I have my consult with my surgeon next week and I'm just praying its not another waste if time like my first go-around was. I had MVP and a diff bariatric group and it was a total waste of 6mos. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Impatient and nervous
James Marusek replied to Stephani.Kline's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was also disheartened to learn that I had to go through a 6 month diet and exercise program to qualify for surgery. But having gone though that process, I can see that it was positive experience. It taught me about food journaling. I tracked everything I ate and learned what to avoid. I also developed a routine of walking each day. I attended bariatric surgery support group meetings and learned from others who were going through he process or what to expect after the operation. I was impatient but good came out of this process. -
Trading Clothes?

I just give mine away to the local (church-based) charity shops. That way, any men of immense girth (whether bariatric patients or not) can use them. -
Unhappy with A Lighter Me (ALM) & Dr. Elias Ortiz
groovycath posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I had RNY on 1/6/18. Something happened that caused me to have massive drainage. That night I had 4 things of plasma. Over the next 2 days, I had 4 blood transfusions. I understand my number was 6.5 and really didn't change much. I was kept in the hospital the entire time- never went to hotel. I had drain removed on 1/11 and sent home. The fluid is still coming out the drain hole- i soak about 10 maxi pads a day. The staff at Mi Doctor Hospital was kind and took care of me. The asst. doctor checked in on a regular basis , but I felt he couldn't tell me the whole story. DR. Ortiz came just 3 times, despite my asking to speak with him. I do not feel he was very forthcoming. I still don't understand what happened to make me bleed so much. I have a sister who is a doctor and she is appalled. After 2 transfusions, I would have been back in the OR to fix the bleed. there would have been accountability. I know that I chose to go to Mexico once my new insurance said all bariatric surgery was excluded. What I am so disappointed in is the lack of clear communication by the doctor. I would, therefore, not recommend this company and esp. Dr. Ortiz. I was aware that I would have to pay for "extra" services and I ended up paying close to $1500 for the blood. I do now run the risk of a long recovery (past the 2 weeks I had planned). I also run the risk of infection and the pain of so much leakage. -
Does anyone know if there is a website where you can donate old clothes that don’t fit you for other bariatric patients, and smaller sizes for you when you need them so you don’t have to buy a whole new wardrobe? Or is it something that’s needs to become a thing lol

Is this the one? It looks like it's mostly recipes and they look pretty good. Did you get this book? https://www.amazon.com/Fresh-Start-Bariatric-Cookbook-Weight-Loss/dp/1623157730/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1515876667&sr=8-1-fkmr0&keywords=complete+bariatric+cookbook#reader_1623157730 If you did, do you recommend it highly or just so-so?

New Youtube Channel for Bariatric Beauty and Fashion Tips and Tricks!
kitavonkanada replied to kitavonkanada's topic in The Gals' Room
Hey girl! I am a paid makeup artist. And yes promoting myself. Honestly my love of makeup and beauty is the reason I’m in the industry but I’m sick to death of selling people stuff. I love helping women to feel good about their look and help those who WANT ago wear makeup or learn how. There are hundreds of thousands makeup tutorials. I’m a Bariatric patient and the reasons our concerns are different and the reasons we often feel disconnected with the 20 year old on YouTube is the reason I decided to make these videos. Thanks for the comment. Hope you have. A great day -

Spam...First and only post promoting yourself ...Hummm Only reason I'm responding... This gave me a good laugh for my day. Seriously, only a paid makeup artists spends this much time and investment on getting out the door for the day. Bariatric specific makeup? - It the same makeup tutorial you can find anywhere. -
Thank you!!! @KimTriesRNY Would you ever buy a bariatric cookbook that's JUST recipes? I ask, cuz that's honestly what I want. Just like any cookbook--but without the diet portion, cuz it feels like with my program, I already have my binder full of information for my particular surgery type. But I would totally want a book that has great Phase 1, 2, 3, 4 foods. You know? But I think I'm in the minority cuz I haven't seen a book out there that is like this?

Both books are great. The fresh start book has recipes for purée diet phase and includes a key for if the recipe is appropriate for purée, soft, or the general post op bariatric diet. The first 25 pages or so is general information regarding a bariatric diet and general nutrition information. The recipes are easy to follow and are not super complicated with tons of difficult to find ingredients. The weight loss for dummies recipe book has tons more information, about 100 pages or so in the front of the book is information, actually it’s 120 pages. So about 250 pages of recipes follow that. It’s full of useful information regarding clear liquid diets, information about all post op diet stages, reading nutrition labels, things to have in your kitchen, food safety, restaurant eating....really too much to list here. Anyone could buy this book and be confident after reading it I think. There are not a ton of pictures in this book, so if you need a pic with each recipe it’s not that type. I like them both but if I had to choose I would pick the dummies one. It has a ton of useful information. You could never go wrong with either and they both have nice recipes. I’m just the type of person that likes to have books in her hand still sometimes! Hope this helps!
