    When Did U Feel 100%

Don't know about sugar free Greek frozen yogurt. Sorry. This mornings adventure in foods is protein shake in my morning cup of coffee as creamer...any way we can do it, right! By the way, dairy gold brand has a protein milk with 20 grams of protein that doesn't taste like poo in the milk isle!

    Recipes-Solids

Thanks for the recioes. I look forward to try these recipes when I am on solids. I have yet to find any soft food recipes. Seems like everything I eat just truns into GASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. I eat mostly fish, soft veggies, yogurt, low sodium V8, applesauce and scrambled eggs. I had my surgery 2 weeks ago and still stuggling with gas pains and constipation. I would gladly accept any recommendations anyone has on this.
  3. I have 3 capsules that I have to take. I have been told to empty the contents into something like yogurt. I have tried yogurt, applesauce, and today V8. I am really struggling to get these down. Gagging with each swallow. I'm 5 days post op and just want to swallow these meds. The largest is the Bariatric Advantage vitamins with iron. When did you all start swallowing pills that are larger than MnMs? Any advise on how to get the powder down?

    Working away from home

I travel for work a lot and my husband likes to eat out a lot. Honestly, I have no problem aside from getting these giant portions that I cannot eat. I choose the best choices for me and take the rest to go. I can usually get another 2 meals out of it (maybe more). tip: if your meal comes with a salad, get the dressing on the side otherwise you're in for a soggy mess and inedible as a leftover. When I'm out of town/staying in a hotel, I try to get a room with a refrigerator and microwave. That way I can pay for 1 meal that lasts me and I save on expenses. You didn't mention at what point in this process you are, your profile says pre-op, so I'll also provide a tip related to those special liquid or soft diets. When I was in pre-op and/or freshly post-op, I took items I could eat with me. EX: I had protein shakes with me (either ready made or ones I could mix easily in a shaker, as long as I knew I'd have access to milk). I kept protein bars with me and if I had a way to refrigerate things, I took string cheese, yogurt or cottage cheese with me.
  5. I only took 3 days off work for my procedure (plus the following weekend) before returning to work. I'm two weeks post op and I bring Protein drinks (muscle milk is a fave), yogurt, jell-o, applesauce, broth/cream Soups to work. Also you couldn't eat fast food if you wanted. You would probably be in a lot of pain and discomfort if you tried that two weeks after surgery.
  6. I am 10 days out and I have not lost any weight since Monday. I am barely getting 600 calories per day, since I am still on liquids. I am kind of thinking the low calories is why I am stalled right now, do you think I should try to increase it now, or just wait, I got to purees on Monday and maybe will be able to get a little more then. If I were to increase it now, how would I do it? I may try to eat a greek yogurt today and see what that does, but problem is I don't get that hungry, or if I do it is at night.

    Yogurt?

I was a premier Protein girl myself. High protein, low calorie and taste was pretty good. I wasn't a fan of any of the muscle milks and if your going to use them use the light there is a big calorie and sugar difference. Love all the Greek yogurts, when looking at them all I chose by higher protein value and lower calorie and sugar content since the hubs is diabetic and we are both banded. As for Starbucks and coffee... I have a cup of regular coffee a day, sometimes 2 then I switch fully to decaf to get all the "water" values in for the day. I enjoy the warmth and flavor of coffee, it can be a bit acidic and if you have gerd or anything like that it can aggravate those symptoms. If you don't then as long as you get the Water in, and stick to decaf you should be great. Starbucks coffee...and flavors...there is a decaf skinny non fat, no sugar macchiato you can get and it's not bad at all. I limit it to a "treat" for myself since I have seen barrister's make mistakes and you end up with the 700 calorie drink and your supposed be eating only 800-1200 per day, makes you think! For my morning coffee, and my night time decaf I like to use the international or coffee mate flavored creamers. I get them in sugar free they are half the calories, I don't like the non fat ones. Those who are sleeved or had a Gastric by-pass, sugar in any of those mocha drinks or even the fat content of the cream and cause dumping syndrome and upset stomach so probably best to avoid it all together. Lapband does not react the same way.

    Protein protein protein

I am NOT a cooker either. I just posted this elsewhere but here goes anyway... Low fat refried Beans. I had 4 ounce containers I would put them in and just microwave them for 40 seconds and maybe put a little bit of low fat shredded cheese (sometimes, I really couldn't taste it so often left it off). This was warm and savory instead of sweet and made me very happy in the evenings. Good Protein. lunch would be low fat Greek yogurt. Also high in protein. I can't do cottage cheese and eggs didn't sit really well either so these were my mainstays.
  10. I am so excited like many of you this has been a very long journey. Actually, I have been thinking about it for 4 years. My sister had Gastric Bypass 14 years ago and lost 197 pounds. SHe has only gained back about 20! I am getting the LapBand because I have had Colon Cancer and my Doctor thought this WLS was the best of both worlds. I wasn't happy in the begining that he wouldn't do Gastric but now I am completely happy I had to wait the 6 months and am now going with LapBand. I am on day 6 of my pre-op diet. I am going through BayHealth here in DE. I was excited at first because in my pre-op folder there was a paper titled Pre-Op diet that was only 7 days and allowed for Yogurt, Cottage cheese and 3 oz of chicken a day BUT then I saw the dreaded paper that had my surgeon's name on it and it was 2 weeks of only liquid! sad times!!!!! I wonder how two Dr's in the same network would have two different prep's? Oh well, my Dr also required a 5-10 weight loss before surgery. I was 5'9 and 260 but at my last visit I was 245. My surgeon was happy but my PCM told me not to dip below 35 or I wouldn't qualify. Thanks for keeping me sane over the last couple of weeks!
  11. I am a revision patient. I was sleeved 2 weeks ago. I don't feel hungry, have been measuring my food and have lost a lot in the past 2 weeks. Maybe 16lbs? Anyway I am so worried because I hear of people only being able to get down 1-2 ozs at this point. I can eat 3-4 oz of purees no problem. I haven't felt pain or anything with eating - only a once or twice a twinge or something. Once or twice a bit of nausea from eating. I am on purees and I have eaten baked ricotta, yogurt, egg salad, refried Beans and even soft mashed fish. Is it because I am on purees that I don't feel much more than a lack of desire to eat?
  12. Major bathroom problems and crazy rumbles. Mostly dairy at this stage 3 weeks out. After I eat yogurt or have a shake I feel like I need to go about an hour later. Really bad! Starting to add it up. Anyone else?

    Pre surgery diet

mine is basically...Average 1200-1300, calories per day carbs 175, Protein 85, fat 12 g 2 shakes a day, 2 Soups a day (can have chunks), 1 yogurt, 1 pudding. I can add a similar meal if hungry, take away a meal if nit hungry. There are guidelines for the Soup calories etc, and the pudding has to be fat free and sugar free. Yogurt is no sugar added. I received a 14 day sample pre op meal plan which helped a lot. Some things alternated in week one: oatmeal, carrots, small apple. I have a sample meal plan for post op meal plan 2 weeks

    Sweet/Junk food eaters

Great inspiration seeing all the pounds lost here. I am so looking forward to my banding. By changing eating habits now it won't be as hard after the banding. I will not totally deprive myself of anything, unless it makes me sick. A bite or two won't hurt. Luckily I can tolerate splenda well. Have used it for years but then again I also abused suger, which I don't now. I need to get into control of what I eat. The pre-op diet I am on. Low carb high Protein and veggies does help. A sugar free Popsicle and fudgsicle is such a treat now. I also love Dannon's Plus 0 yogurt. I have it for Breakfast. I think adding Protein powder to that would be good for breakfast. Now what was your favorite Protein shakes? I want to get the right ones. I hope they give me more instructions on what to eat before and after surgery.

    Sweet/Junk food eaters

I do love sweets and have been learning not to eat them. Since I am type II diabetes I had to learn that first. I make due with some sugar free fat free stuff. And I love yogurt. If I can have just one small thing a day I am fine. Just has to be fat free, sugar free and after I have all my required protein and veggies for the day. I think it will be easier with the lapband . But want also to hear from any other sweet lovers.
  18. My first month out my calorie range was 400 - 600, but my NUT was more concerned with me meeting my Protein and Fluid goals. Being low cal for a bit won't hurt. We have plenty of fat reserves to take care of that. I started the day with a Protein shake with ¼ - ½ cup plain greek yogurt, 1 scoop Protein powder and whatever mixin's I liked, often 1 tbsp of almond butter, sometimes a 1 - 2 ounces of fruit and some chopped spinach or fresh spinach leaves mixed with Water and served over ice. That was Breakfast and lunch was pretty similar. dinner was veg broth or clear Soup with ½ - whole scoop unflavored protein powder. In between that I sipped on my water.
  19. I had RNY June 10. I made the cheese bake this week. It was very good. I also have refried beans with a little cheese, cauliflower, applesauce, greenbeans, and yogurt and pudding. The next thing I'm going to try is roast beef hash. I've been trying to add something new every few days to see how it goes. Still can't do eggs though.

    Pre-Op Calorie Intake

heya, I have 6 days left. In on Wed. They have on our liquid diet options to add 1 low fat sugar free yogurt, a tomato soup, and about half a cup of fruit if you're hungry a day. good luck to you.
  21. my first 2 days i was clear liquid only and only AFTER i had my leak test done at the hospital. now i am full liquids and also having Jello, yogurt, pudding, cream Soups, milk. today i managed to do TWO 21 oz Protein Shakes in the morning, both mixed with extra milk and ice and 2 bottles of Water, so my liquids are met. had yogurt for Breakfast, cream of potato Soup for lunch, sugar free pudding mid-afternoon. tonight it's more soup for dinner and sugar free jello later. i'm getting the hang of it.
  22. I went to see my doc this past Monday because I had trouble with proteins (meats mostly) going down and needed to get them in. Chicken, beef, pork, anything. I chewed till I was blue in the face but they got stuck. I know at the beginning, they said that if you have a problem with sticking your esophagus will swell a little from the problem and to wait a bit before trying again. I have been losing consistently so he did not want to do an un-fill. He said to try liquid protein supplements once a day or so for another month...and see how that goes. Plus I really needed to take the time to eat....i was eating way too fast. I am so glad I waited....I have been taking more time eating (reading books or magazines while I eat) and i have been fine all week! I do drink a Boost when I need to. Also heard that you have lots more restriction in the morning for some reason, so I try to have oatmean or a yogurt, something that goes down easy. Good luck!

    Is this weird?

I was just wondering what it feels like to you guys when your food is going through your band? I don't really feel it. I am feeling a lot of tightness in my throat muscles. It is like a lot of tension. I don't really know how else to explain it. I have been feeling a bit tighter lately. I am having a hard time getting coffee down in the morning, but if I wait about an hour longer I can get down a fruit/yogurt smoothie just fine. I think you might be too tight if a warm Fluid in the morning is too much to handle. Later in the day it is a bit easier to eat, but I know that is pretty common. I am just wondering if anyone else experiences that muscle tightness or if you guys think I might be too tight. Any time that drinking fluids is a problem, being overfilled is the likely culprit. I have been at the same fill level since the end of June and I am just now questioning the fill. I only give fills 4 weeks to settle down, because the longest time I have heard of for a delayed-action fill to kick in was four weeks. I don't want to just run back to my fill doc. It's a 3 hour drive and it costs $200. Plus, I don't want to end up regretting an unfill and feel too lose. The answer for that is getting TINY fills and unfills. That's hard for you because of time/distance/money. However, if I continue to feel discomfort I will probably go. I am just going to give it some time first. I think you have given it enough time already. The following is from a post that I wrote a long time ago: "How does a Lap-Band actually work?" This may help you in understanding the restrictive mechanism of a Lap-Band. The INAMED protocol for Lap-Band fills calls for a six-week delay after surgery, prior to any fills. The purpose for the six-week delay is for the patient’s stomach to heal from the surgery, as well as allowing time for the Lap-Band to “Seat” or “Nestle” into the fat pad between the stomach wall and the interior wall of the Lap-Band. Prior to receiving an EFFECTIVE fill, it is VERY uncommon to have any restriction from a Lap-Band. Some patients will NOT lose weight, or may even GAIN weight until they have received an effective fill in their Lap-Band. Normal weight loss with a properly restricted Lap-Band is between 1 and 2 pounds per week. The normal cycle of fills, restriction and weight loss is as follows: 1. The patient's Lap-Band constricts when the patient receives a fill. Swelling for a few days after receiving a fill is very common. Many doctors require a patient to go on a liquid diet for a day or two after receiving a fill. A fill may have a “Delayed Action” of up to two weeks. A “Delayed-Action” means that the fill may not become effective for up to two weeks after the fill. That is why the INAMED protocol states that fills should not be performed on patients who will not have access to medical care for at least two weeks after a fill. 2. The patient's stomach capacity is lessened as a result of the restriction caused by the Lap-Band. 3. The patient loses weight because they cannot eat as much food. 4. The residual fat-pad between the inside of the Lap-Band and the outside of the patient's stomach reduces in size because of the overall weight loss in the patient. 5. The reduction of the residual fat-pad causes the Lap-Band to become loose again. 6. At that point, the patient needs another fill, because the Lap-Band is loose, and the patient has a loss of restriction, which allows the patient to eat larger amounts of food. 7. The patient receives another fill and the process starts all over again. Most Lap-Band patients receive several fills to adjust the Lap-Band as their weight loss progresses, and there is less and less residual fat-pad between the inside of the Lap-Band and the exterior of the stomach wall. Once a patient has lost all of their residual fat-pad, fills become less common. As the Lap-Band patient progresses in their weight loss, the effect of very tiny fills (Less than .2ccs) becomes greater and greater. It is not uncommon for a late-stage Lap-Band patient to experience a significant difference in restriction with as little as .05cc of fill.

    Carbs are NOT my friend

You can make a really low-fat/no-fat hummus easily...just swirl (mix, blend, food process) garbanzo beans, lemon juice, 1 clove raw garlic, salt, 1 tbsp olive oil and nonfat plain yogurt. You can add one tbsp tahini, or, lacking that, peanut butter. Seriously, peanut butter will taste like the tahini.
