I'm currently 4 days post-op and this has been one wild ride! Does anybody else have a problem knowing whether or not you're hungry? My stomach is making growling noises, but when I have one of my doctor approved 'meals' (ie- yogurt) my stomach revolts! It reminds me of a 2 year old who is stubbornly holding her mouth shut and refusing to eat! I feel like I should be making airplane noises with the spoon to tempt it.... Also, did anybody else find that sweet things like sugar/fat free pudding are now absolutely disgusting? I can literally feel my stomach twitching and contorting when I try and have some. Yeah, this should make my job rather interesting...(I'm a cake decorator). So, do ya'll have any interesting food 'issues' now post surgery?

8 oz of chicken is like 2 -1/2 servings. I don't think that is the amount that they would want us to eat. I would think that maybe some greek yogurt for snack in the morning and afternoon and maybe a Protein drink to help so you don't have to eat so much meat but 8 oz is more than a normal person's serving and we should be eating less than normal. Unless I read something wrong. My sample menu says: Breakfast: 1/2 c cottage cheese or 1 egg with 1 oz cheese. Lunch: 2 oz meat 1/4-1/2c veggies Snack; Protein shake Dinner: 3 oz meat 1/4-1/2c veggies I think that gets 70-75 protein which is my range.

Spicy Food + No Water?
sarahbee replied to geronimo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Water actually increases the burn with spicy food. The real solution is milk or dairy. Depending on what you're eating that's spicy, maybe you could counter the spice with sour cream or yogurt? -
When I was on full liquids I was allowed cottage cheese in addition to greek yogurt. I also ate a lot of protein soup.

Tuesday Was My Big Day....
lucky2bLAURA replied to lucky2bLAURA's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got to come home on Wed. afternoon. My belly is a mass of bruises.... I think that hurts more than anything else. I did manage to eat about 2 ounces of yogurt today and I'm working on finishing off my 2nd protein shake. I just made 2 big shakes and split them into small amounts and I've been working on those all day. I'm getting there tho.... It's weird but I thought it was going to be a lot harder than this... well not that I think it's easy I just thought I would be in a lot more pain and discomfort. -
lol oops! I did 1/4 cup pureed chili with a baby spoonful of plain greek yogurt (tastes like sour cream but better for ya) and guacamole. it was a little spicy which sucked bc you can't drink for 30 mins but well worth it to have some different flavor! tomorrow is pureed ham and eggs, then some pureed crab cakes yay for real food again! -oh, and I can hear my mom's voice in the back of my head warning me that even licking the spoon leads to unwanted calories and carbs

Vitamins and Shakes

Wow, I was banded 5/22 and I am in no way able to get that much in yet. I think that is why I am feeling bad, totally no energy. I might have gotten 500 calories in today....a combination of protein drink, yogurt, a little soup, and some gatorade. I haven't even tried adding water yet, I can't seem to fit anything else. -

Helpful tips on creamy and mushy foods

I like to add stevia (or splenda) and cinnamon to greek yogurt. That combo is also good in cottage cheese warmed up a bit. -

I got to visit with my coordinator at my first post op Dr. visit. I love the fact that they don't give you the lap band and send you on your way. Each visit we talk with the coordinator about eating, nutrition, and all the changes you are going to go through in your every day life. Guess what?!? I just found out how many carbs are in my yogurt. OMG!!! I was always lead to believe yogurt was healthy and good for you. She showed me an alternative way to eat it and it still tastes great and I can have it on my pureed food week. 6 oz plain greek yogurt 1 packet of splenda coffee flavoring french vanilla (in the coffee aisle) I know I didn't know they had that either! 1 packet of regular splenda Instead of the splenda flavoring you can mix it with flavored Protein powders and up the protein it has. She said Gold Standard casein in creamy vanilla tastes like cheese cake. I love cheese cake! I hope others will share some tips that got them through the pre and post diets, and just everyday since being banded.- 3 replies

What to eat, drink?
Stephen2 replied to northstar9148's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Premier Protein ready-made shakes (Costco) have been a very helpful tool for me. Chicken broth and bone broth were very helpful for me when trying to get a break from the consistent "sweetness" of most protein supplements. Also Greek yogurt, but stay away from formulations that contain more grams of sugar than protein. -
2nd Week Of The All Liquid Post Gastric Sleeve Surgery Diet
Lissa replied to CowgirlJane's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you taking an acid reducer? That helps with the hungry feeling. Are you allowed Protein shakes yet? If so, that might be a solution for the evening hungries. Make it a treat by using a flavor you associate with dessert, if you can tolerate sweets. How are you doing on protein and Water? I'm learning now that sometimes my "hungry" feeling is actually thirst. If I get in all my water, I don't feel hungry. And, I'm a little different than many...if I'm actually hungry, I eat something small. Can you do cottage cheese or cream Soups? Both will help fill you up and aren't sweet. I see that you're allowed plain greek yogurt, so maybe one of these is allowed for you right now. I'd suggest broth, but you're probably sick of that by now. But, something warm in the evening might be just what your sleevie wants to see. Good luck! You are doing great so far. -
10 days out is this normal?
mylighthouse replied to carlychloe2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When you eat the yogurt and other things, are you eating slowly? If it's a small yogurt, it might be normal to be able to eat the whole thing. The thing to keep in mind is that you want to eat very slowly so that you know exactly when enough is enough. I personally could not have eaten a whole small yogurt at 10 days post op. As far as the drinking goes, I never had any problems at all with drinking since day 1. I was getting in my 64 ounces plus almost from day one. A lot of people have trouble with that, so it's great that you are doing so well with it. Congratulations on your surgery! -
Food For Airplanes
Humming Bird replied to Cingulus's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know about stuff to take on the plane, but I recently spent many hours stranded because of snow. You know those frozen yogurt places they have in many airports? I asked the kid working there to look up the grams of protein in a small cup of the frozen yogurt.... 35g ! So I got one! Yum! At that point I had 4-5 hours to kill and didn't care about the carbs. I asked, but don't remember what it was. -
Helllpp Im Starvin!!!
Brad P replied to ambitiousgirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my dietitian has me on full liquids, I see my surgeon and my dietitian tomorrow, I want to ask my surgeon just what the deal is. To me ( don't forget I'm a retired commercial roofer) I can understand about how important the healing is and how we all have different tolerances that we need to learn (SLOWLY) I just want to know, is it, that if I were to try a small bite of puree chicken and didn't have any problem, Is it that I have to be on Clear, one week, full liquid one week, then start mushies? Or does a food like (just for example chicken puree again) chicken irratate my GI track and should never pass my lips until at least week three? I already know we are all different, just wondering are these the rules for the people that might wolf down a big bite and forget and get stuck or if you start before those three weeks you WILL get stuck. I hope I got this point across?? My hunger is much better after listening to my dietitian and having the milk, and greek yogurt unjury Protein shakes, but like right now, I'm beyond starving (thats how I feel this second) half hour ago I was fine. Come on purees!!! I can't wait until I can have them! Oh yeah, I'm on day 8 tomorrow. -
I just had surgery Wednesday 03/05/14 and...

@Mandaree85 I know what you mean! The burping! Every time I swallow! I am a little happier now as I just had my first chocolate pudding! Yeah, it seams like the pre op went post op and...yuck! I can't stand broth, I now despise Jello, and I don't want to look at another lemon flavored anything for a very long time. Ridiculous as it seems, I counted the days in 24 hr increments and my surgery was over by 3 on Wednesday and today at 4 I realized it had been three actual days and no more...JELLO! Yay! I can have real creamy Soup, yogurt, pudding, Protein shakes! I can't believe I can be so happy over a stupid chocolate pudding! Still don't have much of an appetite, but that pudding sure went down nice and easy! -
6 days out afraid of not getting enough nutrients
Rev Me Up! replied to bethmer's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was never able to get down the Protein drinks. I started drinking liquid yogurt and keifer to get in protein and good calories in the second week. Sometimes, all I could handle was vanilla flavored milk (the one in the juice box). Just make sure you keep up with liquids in general, the biggest problem right now would be dehydration. As you add more real food, your protein levels will go up. Hang in there--- -
I'm on solids and not quite tolerating the food all that well either. I feel sick and just want to vomit. My cousin joked around and called me bulimic but it kind of struck me that what if that is the road I'm going down? Hopefully not. I think I should go back to yogurt / Jello as well, but my surgeon said he wants me to eat "regular" foods now. I hope you heal quickly <3

Wonder I'd you can do something like a soup with high amount of protein, cream of wheat, a frozen yogurt (Tasso) has 6 grams protein in it. It's in form of a creamsicle.

That's awesome that we had our surgery the same day.....I drink my Protein shake in the morning, I've been eating cottage cheese, tuna, yogurt, sometimes I'll eat as much of a high protein lean cuisine as I can. I was trying the protein Water, but it's awful. I don't know what else to do other than up my fluids, plus I get really cranky, but I think it's just because I'm really tired. I'm hoping my body just needs to adjust and that it happens soon. Sent from my SM-G930V using the BariatricPal App

I was allowed Greek yogurt during liquid phase and had no issues.

I was eating reduced/low sugar greek yogurt 2 days post-op from my sleeve.

Well, I am 3 weeks out tomorrow. I was on a liquid diet for 1 extra week due to some pain with swallowing. After being SCARED TO DEATH to try anything semisolid, I did it!!!! I just tried Cream of Wheat. It's amazing to me how different it felt than my liquids. I was able to get 4-5 small bites in before becoming full. How odd thi seems..... What was your first mushie? I have two weeks of mushies ahead of me. I plan on a lot of refried beans, yogurt, egg salad, tuna salad...What else were your favorite mushies?

Hi All- I am on my first international business trip and I feel pretty crappy. I am a little over 3 months out and in my normal life, my stomach feels pretty good. The jetlag on this trip has been absolutely brutal. Also, when I eat in the morning and in the evening, I feel pretty bad. I re-timed my PPI so I am taking it in the morning, but Breakfast is AWFUL. I am eating yogurt with no chunks and it take about 30 minutes to get it down. I am relegated to yogurt because the thought of solid food in the morning makes my stomach turn. It feels like I am back at week #4. In the middle fo the day, it gets better. At night I am also uncomfortable. Anyone else have this problem when they travel? This, combined with the fact that I am not able to catch up on my sleep is making me pretty miserable. I am trying to see the silver lining - I am sure I'll drop a couple of extra pounds because I'm not eating as much :-) Also, I am drinking a little more Water than usual. --Queasy in the UK

I'm 10 Days Post Op And Not Sure About Fullness
JustSkinnyMeInside replied to JustSkinnyMeInside's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank u so much!!! I was getting worried because so many others here are having a hard time getting in fluids. And I certainly don't want to stretch my sleeve esp this early on. I was hoping it was just fluids passing through easily. I could never do that with thinned yogurt! Thanks again (-:
