    Setting Goals

I would focus on 1 to 2 pounds per week (use the lower end if you have a harder time losing weight). Recognize that some weeks you may lose more and others you may lose less. Some weeks you may even gain a pound or two. Try not to get too hung up on the scale. Just follow the instructions your doctor/nutritionist gave you by focusing on the new way of eating and other lifestyle changes. If you do that, the weight will come off. As part of your goal setting, you may also want to include some non-scale victories (NSVs). Those are actually more fun to achieve in my opinion! Good luck!
  3. Lap -- Awesome pictures you look FABULOUS!!!! Keep up the great work. Ador -- WTG on you NSV that is awesome, to bad you aren't closer and couldn't get in on the clothing swap. Are you still feeling okay? Dee & Mini -- You ladies are too much, you had me in tears from laughing so hard at you. If my DH was home I would go upstairs and spank him just for you. I guess I'll do it when he gets home tomorrow. Dee -- I am down 4 pounds for the last 2 weeks. Sorry I didn't weight in last week but we were outta town and I have been busy all week. Went to a friends house for dinner tonight, it was fun. Didn't get stuck so that is always good. It's funny though how she kept trying to get me to eat more and drink more. She even made the comment "You used to be my fat friend" it really hurt that she couldn't be happy for me, I know she is just jealous because I am losing weight and finally feeling better about myself. It probalby doesn't help that her son and husband kept telling me I looked good. I had to buy a few new pairs of shorts because everything I have is about 2 sizes to big and falling off me. It seems like nothing in my closet is fitting right now, its all so big on me. Well, I hope everyone had a great weekend I am off to bed.
  4. ((hugs)) girly... I feel you on the not being a good bandster and having a hard time affording the fills. I am right there with you. Don't hide though! We all have ups and downs and are here to help pull each other up when we stumble. If you don't let us know, we can help. :w00t: :tt2: Hang in there... you will find your momentum. LAP~ You are looking like a hot tamale my friend. Loved the slide show. Keep up the amazing work! NSV for me today. I am wearing size 26's comfortably now. My 32's & 30's have been forbidden  by my co-workers... along with some of my 28's. I have pigpen butt in those according to them. :crying: I am pretty happy. Everything in my closet pretty much fits again. I dread having to get new clothes because we are tight on money... but I also look forward to buying pretty things. Ahhh such troubles. lol. Don't know if I mentioned my hubby got a new job. So proud of my man. He is working as a mechanic now. He actually gets his ASE Cert in January... but he got hired on to work under a master mechanic to learn as he goes until then.

The two things I have learned recently...

Hey Crystal, whats shakin? Ok, we have 2 scales, they are 4 pounds apart. Depending on what the fat scale tells me, then I go on the skinny scale, like if I had a bad day before or around my TOM. Then I go to the doctor and they say to go by thier scale. I don't know if the doctors scale is closer to the fat scale or skinny scale at home, I'm going to have to pay closer attention next time. But all I do know is that I have been doing the eliptical and now I have definition in my calves so I am getting those NSVs!!!

    OMG! I got felt up!

Great NSV. You sound like me. I am only 5'8" but my goal weight is 200. Weight Watchers puts me at 165 which is too thin for me. Hope you reach your goal!

Tell us about your summer NSVs

I am down about 59lbs and my NSV is that I bought two pairs of capri's and actually fit into size 14 petite slacks(with buttons and zippers and everything!!) NO elastic waist! In December I was in size 20 pants, with elastic waists! Aimee

Yeah.......like I was gonna let a thread with a title like this go by without checking it out!!!! Congrats on the fun NSV!!!! Kat
  13. So, yesterday I had my monthy check up with the PA. While discussing my goal weight, she mentioned they had a computer program to help out with that. I had stated I am looking for 240 with a maintainence level btwn 235 and 250. She was unable to get the program to work, so she went out and got Barb to come in and get it going. Barb came in and got it going immediately. She said they like to advise people to shoot for 75% of excess body weight from the initial appt. Then said ideal for someone 6'3" is 172. But, maybe somewhere btwn would be good. So, around 195. I stared at her and the PA and started laughing. Both said this was unrealistic as I appear to lift weights and body fat is a better indicator in that case. Here's the best part, Barb asked "May I?" and proceeded to grab my biceps, my pecs and my thighs. Then said, "Yup, you work out quite a bit apparently". It then dawned on me that I had just been felt up by a woman admiring my physique.:w00t: I guess this goes down as a major NSV. I now am able to woo older ladies by selling them tickets to my "gun show".

Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters

Linda - You are such a wonderful person for all the community work you do.. How's the mentoring of that girl?? How's the spanish going? Congrats on the NSV (and yes it was) that's pretty cool and nice that DH asked you - don't know if he gives you props often - but that was one imho -------------------------------------------------------------- Good Morning Gang I got my packing done last night - do you know that this whole liquid crap in a QUART size bag - OMG - I don't know how the expect a WOMAN to get all her makeup (face mascara lipsticks eyeliner)- hairspray - gel - lotions - wrinkle creams - eye cream - deodorant - toothpaste - shampoo - perfume all in that little bag. (Yes gang I am a makeup junkie - beauty junkie) Yes I know that this rule is only for carryon - but I am just going for the weekend have a small bad no need to check - this is just a dumb rule imho.. My quart bag is stuffed - I hope they don't make me throw stuff away.. Well, plan on going to the gym in a bit - since I won't get to exercise tomorrow - but I am not as addicted to it as our darling Karri - I am sorta tired this morning - went to bed around 11:30 last nite up at 6 so hopefully this coffee kicks in. Sorta getting nervous about this weekend - I really don't know anyone and we have a whole group who knows each other coming from KS - I will do fine I know it - but you guys would never ever believe this I am a little on the shy side.. I know that I don't come across that way - but that's my cover up - I play like I am the confident women - but really inside I am a 2 yr old.. Also here is another interesting fact about me that you wouldn't know - I am an introvert - yes me - after all this play like a grown up - I am going to be wiped out.. And again - it's the whole thing about still being a fat chick in my head - But I will plug forward and over come these issues - I do practice what I preach - Fake it til you Make it :w00t: Well - it's 7 need to get my butt in gear - well maybe another cup of coffee - I have to leave here around 10:30 -11 to get to airport by 11:30 - plane leaves at 1 - this whole thing about getting to airport to sit around for 2 hrs - again stupid... P S airport isn't big and this time of yr shouldn't be busy - but this was the first place that made me take my thong sandals off - ya right like I had a bomb in them OMG I am turning the news off - stock market tumbles - gas $7 - this is the reason that everything is such a mess - if the news would report positive stuff then maybe things would be at least a little more positive and not so negative ... OK - going to get dressed - will cbl:tongue: If I don't - I love you all - will miss you guys (will go thru withdrawls 2 day without lbt)

    Nymph's July Exercise Challenge

Think positive thoughts about how your going to look...and what size you will be. I lost one whole dress size in a month doing Water aerobics...This week I lost 2 lbs. not sure what's up with that because I have been slowing way down must be the exercise catching up with me. I never thought I would say that love to exercise but this water aerobics thing has been awesome. Everyone! Listen Up! Take your measurements because at the end of July lets see how many inches we have lost....that is another great NSV that we should ponder on.... I am going to be the Cheerleader this month and cheer you all to victory! Cindy

Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters

I got home form the Salvation Army clinic last night and as I was washing up, DS called and asked if I wanted to go night-flying with him in the "little" plane." He has to do 3 take offs and landings every 3 months to keep up his certification in that plane. It's a little two-seater that I wouldn't have even been able to get into a year ago. I love flying, but never went in the little plane. I guess getting into it was a NSV in itself, but the fact that I could go was huge. What a high point (pun intended!) Kari--Congratulations on aother milestone! You deserve to celebrate! Please, please talk to DH and get in touch with Candice. There's plenty of room at my house and we're staying in a suite at M of A so I'm sure there will be enough room there too.

    March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

Clothes that fit make for a great NSV. I have bought new pants and shirts. and looking at myself as I walk by a store window, I can actually see the difference. What a boost to the ego I was measured last week and have lost 4 inches in both my waist and hips.. woohoo!!! I actually had a friend call me "slim" the other day.
  18. Mrs.FlipFlops - I am soo happy you've lost you first 50 pounds! You will be in twoville soon!! Congratulations on you nsv, I too had a scale I couldn't use until I got below 330. I kept hopping on it thinking one of these days I would be able to use it... and it finally happens and it feels good!!!!!! Keep up the good work!!! You'll be under 300 before you know it!!! Tess

Yipee! The best NSV ever for me!

I know Susan, getting off or reducing Meds are the best NSV ever. I was lucky enough to get off my diabetes Meds right after banding (type 2) now i need to loose a little more and I might be able to get off my High Blood Pressure pills. I just got tested yesterday and my A1C is 4.6 which the nurse said is considered Normal. Normal...Me....Cant wait to have my weight be considered Normal. Great Job.:blushing:

    Post-Op problems...HELP

After only three weeks you are probably still pretty swollen. It takes longer for the insides to heal than the outside incisions. Hang in there. I am 4.5 months out and still get stuck quite often. (Stuck means back and chest pain for me) I have 3 cc's in my 10 cc band and I have to be very careful what I eat, how fast I eat and how well I chew. I can eat pizza (tiny bites chewed very slowly I can eat about 1/4 of a personal sized pizza.) Yesterday I got stuck on deli ham because I ate too fast and topped it off with too much broccoli. It just takes practice to figure out what you can eat and how to eat it properly. I agree that you should probably give your tummy pouch a rest. It is probably irritated because it was stuck. A couple of days of liquids will calm it down. If you are drinking juice, cut it with Water since it can be pretty acidic and that can irritate also. Just remember that these first 4-6 weeks are for healing so let your body heal. You will love this band and all of the nsv's that you will have. :Angel_anim:

Anyone else close to being under 300lbs????

I've lost 50 pounds, but not quite there yet... about 27 more to go! I can't wait to see that 299 on my scale. My first NSV in a long time... I have a scale that doesn't go past 330. I surpassed it long ago, but couldn't bring myself to get rid of it. I always told myself I would use that dang scale... and finally this past week I DID! It wasn't magical, but I've carried that darn thing through several moves and it's FINALLY useful!
  23. Ezma

I think my feet are shrinking!

I still wear the same size in length but they are definately narrower. They never swell anymore and I think that's what's doing it for me. Congrats on the NSV. :biggrin2:
  24. Lap - that's exciting! I'm actually looking forward to getting the pannus ripped off me (and some days I'm ready to take a knife to it myself - that might MAKE insurance pay for it! Gross, I know, thats why I haven't done it...that and I'm not crazy!) Good luck! A couple of weeks ago I had a major NSV that I don't think I wrote about, but wanted to. Anita and I have a total aversion to excercise so it's a pretty big deal when I even head outside at all! Well, I got myself a new bike, hooked up the kid trailer and set out for town. (It just happened to be the ONE nice day since.) I planned with a friend to meet "in town" at a park and our girls would play. I was VERY apprehensive because there's a BIG hill on the way into town and then once I got there...would I be able to come back? Well, I decided that if I had to I'd just walk my bike up the hill and call my husband to come get us if I just couldn't get back....so there were no excuses. Turns out I didn't need my back-up plans a all! It was about a 3 mile ride each way with several hills, but I made it and wasn't even a little pooped when we got home! My daughter had a great time too! This is big... My husband FINALLY made an unsolicited comment on how good I looked today. And that was after the Chief of Police told me I was lookin' good! So now I have both bosses of public safety telling me I'm hot....I can get away with anything! Right?

Today when they were prepping me for surgery they used the regular blood pressure cuff. I needed the large one before. Told the nurse "Wow, nice NSV there.".
