  1. My weight has gone up and down, but I've only been "obese" for the last 10 years. I would be "heavy" at times but not as huge as I was before surgery (100 pounds obese). I too didn't see myself as "fat" when I looked in the mirror and was shocked when I finally saw how large I had become. I'm 53 years old.
  2. I went to the seminar on December 6 and turned in my information packet. I got a call to schedule my intake appointment and couldn’t get in until February 5. Naturally, on February 2 me and my 7 month old came down with the flu. I’ve felt like complete garbage, but I thought I might be ok to go tomorrow. Then this morning my 5 year old woke up with a fever, chills, and cough. I had to reschedule and my new appointment is March 19. It’s really not that long, but I was really looking forward to this appointment and getting the ball rolling and now I had to restart my countdown app on my phone. I’m feeling very sorry for myself. Just needed to whine a bit. I guess I’ll spend the next 42 days revising my questions for the surgeon/psych/nutritionist and pinning my aspirational wardrobe on Pinterest.
  3. Hello! So I was sleeved on 1/28/19 and the first few days were really rough for me getting fluids, especially ANY protein at all. Then I came to realize that my new stomach, at least for the time being, cannot tolerate whey! (Which was obviously a wonderful, vomit-filled experience). I recently discovered fairlife lactose-free protein milk and it has been an absolute life saver, and is allowing me to get at least 60g, woo hoo! Now, a week out, I’m able to drink water pretty “normally” (no chugging of course but normal sized sips) and fuller liquids a little slower, but still pretty normal. Unfortunately, today was my first day at work and while absentmindedly scrolling on my computer, I accidentally gulped down 8oz of the fairlife very quickly, like in a couple minutes. I felt no protest in the moment, but now I feel full and a little gassy and just overall gross. I am hoping that someone else has had this experience and can let me know how quickly they felt better, and, god forbid, if there was any lasting damage. Thanks everyone!

    ❤ FEBRUARY 2019 CHALLENGE ❤

Day 4: Held my plank for 10 seconds!🤗. No junk food, glad superbowl is over with!! # 4 self love, forgive yourself for: Trying ever diet known to man, failing that diet, hating myself for failing then trying another diet. Comparing myself to others who tried the diets and lost weight. I was really hard on myself . A lot of negative talk. No more. I wouldn't be where I am now. If I hadn't gone through those lessons .
  5. For me it will be 10-11 months (breast/arm lift). None of the surgeons I saw (which was 5 in person or two medical tourism) had any issue with me not waiting until I was at goal--said I was close enough (20 pounds). They want that green. $$$$ 😆 I have to wait for my weight to be stable for 6 months for my insurance to cover the panni. Oh well.

    Slow WL

I lost 25 pounds in a month and 10 days. I don’t know if this is good progress or not. I have been at a plateau for 2 weeks now and I’m so frustrated. Is this normal?!

    ❤ FEBRUARY 2019 CHALLENGE ❤

Ok, catching up. #1 Ha! Pasted @GreenTealael post to inspire brevity and cuz it was so great and concise! Then forgot to remove it! Derp! I'm not hebrew--I'm Irish/Cath. I'm a semi-obsessed amateur nutritionist with 3 clients: me, myself, and I. I love long walks by the lake, intermittent fasting, eating clean, hanging out binge-watching Netflix, going to Skeeters games, and cooking and laughing with family and friends. I enjoy spending all day playing mah jong (sp?), hearts, and 42 and the occasional glass of deep red wine. Day 1... RNY Feb 20, 2018; still losing VERRRRY slowly... Feb 1st weight: 147.2 lbs Feb Challenge Goals: a) Complete No Junk food Challenge b) Partially Complete Exercise Challenge d) Partially Complete the Public Self-Love Challenge (I'm gonna half ass this as usual. Good luck with getting facial recognition on me. I don't intend to give you that many target points. ha! As if! Take that Google and FB!) Feb Weight Goals: a) 144lbs : this will move me out of the "overweight" BMI range and into healthy. I was there for a hot minute one day (after a huge poop. So here's hoping to see that again! b) 140 lbs : this will take me all the way to Goal #2. I haven't been 140lbs since I was 18 years old. (I wore a size 6 and thought I was so fat...*sigh*) January 31, 2019: #2. The eyes have it. These are totally my grandmother's eyes with maybe the milkman's eye color. I see her and my daddy when I look at my eyes. #3 Generosity. I'm generous with myself, my time/talents/possessions, etc. #4 Being different--the square peg that doesn't fit in very often and being overly passionate about things and then beating myself up for being so outspoken and different.
  8. Well say Hi to another, I had my RnY September 5th, 2 weeks in I started saying "Something is Wrong", they discounted me at first, I was impatient, I should know I was still swollen inside, my surgeon had said I could progress to Stage 3 foods, every time I tried. it came right back up, only could handle broths in and other fluids, even choked a few times on applesauce with my meds ground up. Finally, I suspect to shut me up, they scheduled an Endoscopy on October 12th, well Surprise Surprise I had a stoma stricture, that's why nothing was getting through, plus I had multiple ulcerations in my jejunem, and I grabbed a hold of that Tornado's Tail and I'm still riding it. Multiple endoscopies, still strictured, they have tried twice to dialate it but it kept tightening back up, end of November, November 28th in fact, I was not digesting my p.o. protein, malnourished, dehydrated, and my happy hoo-hah and me got to be a return guest of the Bariatric and Gastrointestinal floor 10 Doan for 6 days, fed by IV the whole time, on November 28th a PICC line was installed, TPN was started and I am still on it 2+ months later, 12 hour feedings, 12 hours off every day. I have graduated to 1 token pureed meal a day, odd days a Protein shake, even days homemade pureed soup with extra protein added, this month instead of strainining out veggies I can pureed them into it, but bulk of nutrition is TPN stills Lost 3 pounds mid- December to mid- January, must have been close to a stall because if Doctors scales are correct I dropped 8,3 pounds January 16th to 25th, so although my weight is dropping a lot slower than the beginning, it still decreases, down over a 100 pounds from my life highest weight in October 2017, maybe 50+ s8nce surgery, so that's a lot better than I expected. Starting to resemble 2 of my dead relatives, don't recognize ME anymore but am going to keep hanging around and losing until I find out WHO I AM inside. Might take a year to 18 months to reach my goal, but now I know I will live long enough to do it! March 2020 I am going to be dy-no- mite, just wait and see!👙😛👚👖

    Twin Peaks Protein Puffs

Thanks for sharing. I too have spent a lot trying out different things. Good to hear of something that tastes good. If you go to the twin peaks site, they have 10% off.
  10. Going for a vsg revision to rny bypass I'm a 30 year old man. was in the greatest shape of my life after vsg. After getting diagnosed with a debilitating back injury i had to give up alot of what i used to do such as body building and 4 Wheeling Ect. So I've put on about 50 pounds in the last couple years since hurting my back. Going to Mexico for gastric bypass revision on February 12th 2019 with ALM. Anyone had any bad expierences with them? Sent from my SM-N960W using BariatricPal mobile app
  11. I underwent VSG on 1/24/19. I also had a large hiatal hernia repaired at the same time. I have been feeling much better in the last week or so, especially during the day. Other than being somewhat fatigued, I feel fine while I’m up and around. For the last 2-3 nights, though, I toss and turn with constant middle-back and side pain. It’s not a burning/stinging pain or anything. It’s more of a really strong ache. Reminds me of a “flu backache” for anyone familiar with that. It doesn’t matter which position I lie in, it’s constant. Has anyone else experienced this? What in the world is causing it? I have no other adverse symptoms at this point.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Hang in there. It’s natural to worry but the statistics support the benefit of following through. I know of at least 10 family, friends and colleagues that have had bariatric surgery. All of them experienced anxiety but none of them have regret. They all wished they would have done it sooner....Heck so do I. My close friend and I started this health journey together but I began 2 months ahead of her. Only the dr’s team, she and my husband know I am getting a sleeve. She was sleeved on 12/20 (her insurance only required 3 months while mine required 6) while I am scheduled for 2/18 and I begin my two week pre-op diet tomorrow. Funny, I had to encourage her to stay the course as she got major cold feet the week before but now, she’s my advisor and support to push through.

    Post op question

I had my surgery on 12/10 and some days I can eat every 2 hours and some days it's hard to even have one normal meal. I found it best just to get in a routine. For me, I wake up and go for a mile and a half walk. Then an hour or two later i'll try to have a meal (1.5 ounces or less still for me). I just try to eat 3 meals a day, mostly chicken or for a snack i'll have some cheese. So far it's worked well for me I'm down over 70 pounds.
  14. I underwent VSG at Blossom Bariatrics/Warm Springs Surgical Center on 1/24/19. My surgeon was Dr. Matt Apel. I have nothing but positive things to say. Their staff members were amazing, but more importantly, they were completely thorough in everything they did- from the pre-op work-up, to surgery, to the IV infusion the day after surgery. They even emailed me copies of the surgical report and pathology reports. Everything was spectacular. The hotel they put us in was nice, clean, and quiet. The presidential ground transportation they provided was also very convenient for out of towners like myself. I’m a registered nurse with a background in pre-op/post-op, so I tend to pay attention to things that most people don’t notice. I found absolutely nothing to critique. Every T was crossed, and every I was dotted. I honestly can’t think of a single thing to complain about. If your insurance won’t pay to have bariatric surgery done locally (and even if it does), then I 110% whole-heartedly recommend Blossom Bariatrics.

    BYPASS QUESTIONS HELP

That all sounds pleasant. I hope my hunger will decrease that's my main issue never get full. Not only will I save tons of money on food bill but I'll definitely lose weight better but the fact we have to take vitamins because of the malabsorption means we absorb less calories and nutrients that's my main reason for the RYGB over the sleeve.. 73kgs in 12 months is a great number that's about 6kg a month on average... But obviously each month would be varied.. It will be so amazing to be able to eat so small portions and that way can afford better quality foods! I've heard some ppl living off protein shakes for 2 out of 3 meals so they consume less calories but better nutrition.. I can't wait but I've got months to go to save and find the right doctor. I'll be 35 this year so it's like my birthday present to myself to get the bypass. It's long overdue I wish I knew about it 10 years ago!!

    Getting cold feet, normal?

I think it is very normal. At some point, you have to relinquish control (or lack thereof) and let the Good Lord (Or surgeon, if you will) take the wheel for you. Yeah, it's scary - and there are tons of opinions out there. I was asking lots of questions before I pulled the trigger. Motivation? Watch "My 600# life". That worked for me. Can I eat the yummy foods I used to? Maybe. Have I tried? Nope. Why? Well, I won't be the first to say this, but my body literally doesn't crave them (* most of the time). I've lost 100# in 7 months, lost 10 inches off my waist, I can walk up steps to my office, and I can work on my car without feeling like I'm going to have a heart attack. Also, I can fit in amusement park rides now, something I couldn't do before.

    January surgeries?!

I had my gastric sleeve done at Blossom Bariatrics/Warm Springs Surgical Center in Las Vegas, NV on 1/24/19. Starting to feel much better. I’m excited to lose this weight for the final time and never look back.
  18. I was sleeved on 1/24/19 and my emotions are all over the place. I was crying stirring my cream of wheat for no reason. I’m chalking it up to my body had a big adjustment and everything needs to realign. I end up feeling better after 15-20 mins.

Will I ever feel normal again?

I’m 10 day’s out from sleeve surgery...I think I know what you mean by the “ball”...I seem to have that too...when I get it I take even smaller sips and wait between each one...it’s tedious but it helps.
  20. I have now officially lost over 200 lbs in 8 months. Quite the journey. My wife was so impressed with the results she decided to have the surgery in October and is now my workout buddy. We walk 7-10 miles a day and lift weights five days a week. I consider myself about 20-30 lbs away from goal at this point. I understand there is probably more weight to lose than that if I reallt wanted to but I don’t really ever want to be super skinny. I have two little daughters so I prefer the “big enough to kick your butt and small enough to catch you” look for for any future boyfriends. :)

    Neck/facelift, Anyone?

I don’t know why I can’t see my answer to your question about cost but I’ll answer again. With the lower blepharoplasty the total was somewhere between $17k. My memory is fuzzy. I seem to recall I could have gotten away with $15k for just neck/face lift or paid $19 for lift with upper and lower blepharoplasty.
  23. so it has been 10 months since my surgery & i started out 254lbs & now weigh 170lbs & wear a size 10.i have had treat days all along & have lost weight all along.i work out 5 days a wk anywhere from a half hour to an hour and 15 mins on avg. i do cardio on one day & strength training on the next.i go out to eat about 2-6 times a month,i order whatever i want but can only eat a small amount.the rest of the time i eat pretty healthy & avg about 1,000 calories a day.i have personally learned to balance out my treat days & did not gain during the holidays despite all the baking & parties.im sure after the one yr mark i will have to always adjust my calories & workouts as it will get harder to maintain.i will never b hardcore & not allow myself treat days, for me its about living & balancing everything out & choosing a lifestyle that works for me & for longterm.everyone has to find what works for them.its great to read everyones experiences & advice & take pieces away that work for u & devise ur own plan.
