Back pain after major loss
jess9395 replied to jess9395's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That makes sense, but as you say easier said than done. I wonder if a physical therapist could give appropriate exercises or techniques to strengthen posture. I really thought yoga would help but I go 2-3 times a week and it doesn't seem to be. I am not sure just telling myself to "stand up straight" is enough. -
Thanks for all your posts it is really helpful to find out the this is normal and that if will thicken up again. It was just scary the past two weeks to was my hair and find so much of it in the shower. I have thick hair anyways so I am probably the only one that will notice it. I have never had hairloss on a diet before so this was a new experience. I was really wondering if I was doing anything wrong. Glad to find out that I'm not that it is just part of the process. Thank's everyone for all your great info and support!!!!

Ridiculously long time waiting for insurance approval
Miss Mac replied to bunyip's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
It sounds like a stalling tactic to me. My packet was sent to BCBS Federal Employee on Thursday 11/21/2013 and was approved by noon on 11/25/2013 on; two business days. I had my surgery on 12/23/2013 just before the end of the year. -
Are you taking prescribed or over the counter acid reducing meds? If you aren't you should be for the first two to three months after surgery. This goes for bypass and sleeve patients. I'm not sure if this applies to lapband patients. Talk to your surgeon right away about this and let them know how you are feeling. Take care and much success to you on your journey to better health.

I am 7 weeks out today. I had diarrhea around day 4 or 5 (bad, had to run to the bathroom) At my 1 week check up my surgeon said sometimes it happens when the system starts working again. He recommended Benefiber. You put it in your Water and can't even taste it. Since then I had diarrhea one other day, but just once and it was mild. Other than that I have been very regular, like clockwork, having a normal BM almost every morning. SO......not everyone gets constipated. I'm glad I don't. Hopefully your diarrhea will be short-lived like mine was.

How To Get Past The Negativity?
soon to be the new me replied to soon to be the new me's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you very much everyone. I knew I would run into some negativity but when it comes from your family it hurts and it's hard to think about going through this huge journey with people waiting for you to fall. But I am doing it regardless because I want to see 35, 40, and hopefully 80. I want to run and play with my daughter. I don't want to be embarassed because I can't always get on the floor and play with her or the embarassing way I have to bend over to pick up her toys. I want to be healthy, not have to take pills to stay that way. I was going to do this about 4 years ago and my now ex husband and I were paying out of pocket but 2 weeks before I was supposed to have surgery he pulled the plug on the loan. I lost over 100 lbs after my divorce and gained it back after I had a baby. It's a vicious circle we all know too well. The only people who will know about my surgery will be my family for now. It will be my choice who knows later. I appreciate the comments and support. At least I know I can come here for support! -

Frustration With Protien
melting me replied to bubles089's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't drink the Protein shakes with milk any more. It took me about 2 weeks to be able to drink a protien drink in under 3 hours. I started drinking 2 ounces, putting it back in the fridge, coming back 30 minutes later and drinking more until it was all gone. I have developed a distaste for them. I started drinking the Isopure zero carb Protein Shakes from GNC. I can drink plain milk, but the taste of the protein is intolerable. I also can not drink plain Water. It actually turns my stomach and causes pain. I talked to the surgeon and he suggested mixing up the Protein drinks with more variety including ice cubes in the blender, Peanut Butter or a bit of a bananna. He gave me a list of about 50 variations to try and suggested citrus or cukes in the water to change the make up enough. I am 32 days out from surgery now and have found that if I don't drink the protein I don't lose. I haven't lost a pound in 3 weeks because I wasn't getting enought calories. I also started using a straw eventhough it is not suggested because if helps. -
What Does A Tight Band In The Morning Feel Like
wildrose1966 replied to wildrose1966's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't have fluid in my band, I am only 3 weeks out. I almost feel like I did 2 days post op, just full and gassy........feels better when I stand. I know I am still healing, but I am sure those darn beans have something to do with it, and I am pretty sure the lunch I grabbed from the fridge has beans in it - yikes, I am sure I can find something else. I will just take it easy today. I also just moved to my next stage of eating, more solids, meat, crackers etc, so it could just be a shock to the system after being on liquids for over a month. Thanks ladies -
Surgery scares!
cheryl missouri replied to melbell2222's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 4 weeks out and couldn't be happier. I think you need to listen and follow the rules CLOSE. It's important not to eat something tooooo early. U have to wait until you are told. That causes lots of problems. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I was banded June 20 and it's normal.....wait a few days and you will start having liquid out....not fun!!! I still feel bloated and pregnant but not having any gas pains, thankfully. You will probably be bloated for a few weeks. Once you start having "real" food, other than the liquids, your bathroom habits will become more normal. Hang in there!!!

Hey Roxanne, another Jersey girl!! Welcome to LBT. I'm a bad person to answer the consultation-to-surgery question, because in my case it took almost a year. I had to fight my insurer to the bitter end, but I finally won. Proof that it can be done! Bless New Jersey's guaranteed right of third-party review. Who is your surgeon? If the office you're going to is anything like my doctor's, you'll be handed a list of things to do once you leave the seminar. There's a bunch of testing to be done, some standard and maybe some specific for you depending on your health issues. Once you've had all the testing, which will probably include a psychological evaluation and nutritional counseling, the time frame could be as little as a couple of weeks. So it's very hard to say at this point. We're glad you found us and look forward to cheering you on!

Well guys I just couldn't do it. I was dehydrated and getting weak I knew it wasn't going to get any better on its own so I called my doc first thing this morning and he wanted me into his office right then. Well I got there he was ready for me told me I was dehydrated and wanted to know why I had waited so long before contacting him. I actually did think it would get better on its own and I really did like the weight loss of 13 pounds in about 3 weeks. But I knew it wasn't heathly so I called. Any how he took it completly out had a horrible time finding my port but finally got it. Now I am on complete liquids for a week until I go see him again. I am so upset I didn't want him to take it all just alittle but he said I had a lot of swellilng and that I needed to just rest everything inside. I know he is right but still doesn't make it easy.

I didn't PB for about 3 months after I was banded. Of course, I had nearly no restriction for about 3 months. Now I PB around once a week. I'm curious as to what other people constitute a PB as. I count it as spitting up slime (for me it's sort of like "coughing" up slime).

This is a question I have to present to my cardiologist but thought I'd ask here as well and learn of your experiences. Since most/all/many blood thinners have to be taken with food (to lessen the chance of a stomach bleed per doc) what did you do on the full liquid stages before and after surgery? I was wondering if taking the meds after a Meal Replacement will suffice? My husband was on blood thinner and had three stomach bleeds so I am very concerned about this.

@CheckYes My dad isn't really monitoring my weight. He's really just trying to be helpful, but i understand where that could be destructive. @riverat - I don't really know. His mom is 92 and his brother (56) was diagnosed with early onset alzheimers. I think that's about the most medical crisis he has had. He doesn't really go to a doctor. He's a pretty keep-to-himself king of guy. I know when he gets mad about something he won't talk to anyone for a while. He has to think first. So I'm thinking maybe... stew? Either way, I know it's going to be hard. I'll feel guilty if i don't tell him but it'll be less stress on me than having to tell him. I talked to my mom and stepdad about it earlier this week and my stepdad said, "Well everyone has their opinions, i can respect that. Print him off some information to explain the procedure..." I think the only experience he has is with Gastric - a route i refuse to take (too intrusive for me but know it works great for some). One of his patients had gastric and had a really rough time with it. He ended up having atleast one more surgery and got really sick, etc. Maybe he thinks they're all the same... who knows.... UGH

Yes I have. It works for that day, like if your going out and would like to wear a sexy dress, it takes off a few inches and makes your skin feel soo soft, but its not permament. I heard its good to do body wraps every few weeks to help tighten skin. But unfortunantly I wouldnt kno if thats 100% true because I only did it once lol its too expensive for me to do it every 3 weeks..its cost like $85 for 1 treatment

I know exactly what you're saying Cindy. That's why the decision is so hard. If he asked, I wouldn't lie. I can't remember lying to my parents about anything (even in my young/dumb years). I may have kept things from them but when asked - I always tell the truth. So yes, of course he would find out. I am very confident in my decision to have the surgery - a little scared because I've never had surgery - but confident. In fact, when I first started to consider it, I was shocked. I was against it before - thinking I could do this all on my own. But I've been trying as long as I can remember to not be the fat girl and it hasn't worked for me. And I know it's not because I've been lazy with my attempts or quit. I just need help. I'm doing it for me - but my family will benefit from this decision. My dad has a good friend whose daughter lost over 100 lbs "on her own" a few years ago. I guess he thinks I should be able to do that too. He has said, "the concept is simple - burn more calories than you put in." YES - THAT SEEMS LIKE A SIMPLE CONCEPT. Through my working out every day of the week, to eating TONS of protien and not many carbs, to only eating once a day... it hasn't worked that way. I've questioned many times what is wrong with me. Like I've said in other posts, my family isn't obese. I'm the chunky one but my siblings are all "normal" size. I guess initially posting this - i knew in the long run that I would tell him before the surgery. I just wanted some encouragment. I know he's not going to take it well. He won't get mad but I know he will worry...
