  1. Hi. I’m 2 weeks post op and was wondering if anyone has had avocado this early after surgery?
  2. Date of Surgery 12/27/21 The plan was to have band removed and sleeve done on the same day, what was not planned was the removal of 6 inches of intestines because of blockage due to scar tissue from previous surgery, was inpatient for 5 days. Week 1 at home was a struggle with gas and just being overall uncomfortable, Week 2 a little better but still not comfortable probably to be expected I know right Week 3: small celebration something close to non liquid food, which my body rejected so there went that joy Week 4: body accepting non liquid food but oh does it make me pay for it (stabbing paid at to of abdomen, explosive bowel movements Week 5: Nausea, vomiting or some form of vomiting since its more motion but nothing coming up, so it is extremely painful and my stomach is sore to the touch Week 6: Repeat week 5 Does anyone know what can be done to help with the stabbing feeling following eating and sometimes drinking it is crippling
  3. Hello! I'm 6 week post op. I eat and drink most things I did before surgery and have never had a major problem. I was told to wait a couple months before I eat carrots and lettuce. I hiccup when I get too full as well. I have never "dumped". I usually can only eat 1/2 cup of food. Good luck to you.

    My experience… sleeved on 1/22/22

Oh man, those initial stalls are no joke. I think so many years (decades) of having a stall mean that our weight loss efforts were failing yet again has made us all super paranoid about them. The good news is that especially this early in the game, a stall is temporary and doesn’t really mean much. Just focus on the day-to-day and you’ll get there! Post op is just a short period of time in your journey, you’ll be in onederland before you know it!

    Some questions

I agree with others. The sleeve is just a tool. If you eat bad you will gain it back. I just lost my grandma and within three weeks of eating slightly bad I gained FOUR pounds that I have to lose again. That’s how easy it would be to gain it over a pound a week and I wasn’t even eating As much as my always been skinny family members. Not trying to be negative just saying that the sleeve doesn’t do all the work for you. It is very easy to choose to eat around it. That being said, it is much easier to make the healthy choice while the hunger hormone is gone (that is fine for MOST people but not all immediately post op for several months). So me for example in the past would’ve thrown up my hands and kept on gaining until I gained it all back but this time I have nipped it in the bud at four pounds and I am working on losing them again plus the 9 more pounds I have to lose to reach goal.
  6. To follow up on this topic, I had my EGD today and the surgeon said he saw about a 3cm hiatal hernia. He went ahead and scheduled me for hernia repair and revision to RNY next week. I'm looking forward to resolving the hernia issues and also the GERD.
  7. Hello! Hope everyone is doing well I'm new here so sorry if this is the wrong place. I'm 4 weeks post op, and my surgeon and nutritionist have had me on soft foods for a week and said that I'm cleared to start testing more foods whenever I feel comfortable. I've been trying things like scrambled eggs (as they didn't sit well in my throat in the early soft food stage) and chewing boiled vegetables up thoroughly. The thing I'm having difficulty with is that I'm not sure how to tell when things don't agree with me? My "full" is the tenseness in my sternum area, and I get the hiccups. I stop at that point. Sometimes my stomach starts making weird noises...is that when things aren't right for me yet? Sorry, I know it's probably a super basic question but I'd love to hear how you guys knew when things weren't right for you I don't see my surgeon much (next app in 3 months) and I have so much anxiety around just calling them for something basic. I know what dumping is but I haven't done that yet so I think I'm tracking pretty well? Any advice you can give from experiences is appreciated! Thanks! Soph

    Surgeon's advice after vomiting

I didn't have a 2 week liquid only diet. I did change my eating habits for 7 months prior to surgery and lost 50 lbs, which means I don't have to lose it now.
  9. I had a RYGB in 2005 and had pretty much kept the weight off until this past Pandemic/COVID19. I went from 160lbs to 217lbs, with constant GERD, heartburn and a fistula. I decided to get a limb lengthening done since the gastric pouch/stomach had not changed in size at all per Dr. Proctor. On January 1st, 2022, I stopped drinking wine and went into the 2 shakes daily (modified diet) then on the week prior to surgery changed to 3 shakes daily. On the day of surgery January 19th, I weighed 209. Today, I am 3 weeks post-op and weigh 200lbs. Spoke with the doctors office and was told that she (PA) has noticed that weight loss with the limb lengthening is slower and not the same with the regular RYGB, Sleeve, Lap-band. Has anyone underwent the Limb lengthening procedure?

Over 2 mo po and stalled

I lost such a lot of weight really quickly because of vomiting and my calorie intake was very low. About 200 to 300 cals a day. I couldnt make any protein or water goals. So I had a 5 week stall. Its frustrating. Now I am eating more calories and much more protein and reach my water quota, things are moving downwards again.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

Hello everyone. My VSG was on 11/15/21. I have lost a total of 51 lbs. I am also going through a stall at this time. I haven't lost anything in the last 2 weeks. Its a little frustrating but at the same time I am amazed at how I've lost these 51 lbs. and need to keep going. I do not notice a difference when I see myself in the mirror but I have noticed my clothes fitting better and a little loose. No one has said anything about me looking thinner but it has been cold here and I've had to wear hoodies or a coat. I know I've lost lbs. and my doctor says I am doing well. I just don't see the progress in the mirror.

That is a long stall but I have seen others on here that have had them. If you are measuring and logging everything it can’t hurt to check in with your nutritionist and see if they can see something you are missing but if you are following plan the stall will break and most likely when it does you will drop a few pounds right away.
  13. They inflate you with air during surgery, and the 'gas pain' should probably be divided into two: - The immediate pain (immediately after until 12h) - The lingering pain (12h to 7 days) I was probably not well-deflated and under-medicated coming out of surgery; I was in a ton of pain, but once I got up and moved around (and trust me, that was hard on a 9.8 on a 10 pain scale), it helped a lot. It was two-three rough hours. The lingering gas was annoying, but not really painful, for me. I'm not saying this to deter you, I'm saying if you're one of the people who experience pain immediately after, ask for more pain meds right away and get up as soon as you can. It helps! Reported for surgery at noon on Thursday, surgery at 1.30pm, out by 8am Friday morning.

Unfortunately stalls are a reality. If your stall lasts more than 3 weeks, it's time to revisit your portion sizes, protein intake, and monitoring everything you put into your mouth. If you still are stalled after 5 weeks and you're doing everything to the letter, you should consult the nutritionist at your surgeon's office.
  15. Thank you kindly for all the information and your openness. I’ve re-read your posts several times over the past few weeks, as it’s such an important decision to make, and am scheduled for a MGB on February 24th. Ready for a new start!

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

Surprisingly in the last week or so I've lost more weight and I've been less careful about what I eat in terms of counting calories. Maybe I was having too little?
  17. It would be dependent on your individual issues. I had bad GERD pre-surgery with a hiatal hernia. Post surgery and H-hernia repair, and I went briefly off pantoprazole after a month. While I had no sign of reflux, I instead developed an ulcer at the stoma within two weeks and was put back on pantoprazole for the next 6 months. I'm still getting the occasional pain in the region of my stomach/intestine join, so I will not be surprised if my surgeon keeps me on the drug for longer than that. Having been on Nexium for 15 years, I won't blink if I'm on Salpraz for a few more.

Because your stall is longer than the usual 1-3 weeks duration, have a chat with your dietician & review your food choices, portion sizes etc. Do you measure & track everything you eat? It can be easy to over or underestimate, misunderstand your plan or include a food that’s not the best option. Sometimes a small tweak is all that’s needed to your food intake or your activity. You could be fighting against your other health concerns & any meds you may be taking too. Don't give up though. It may take you a little longer but it’s not a competition. All the best.
  19. Hi Kris. I’m doing well at 3 weeks except I am still quite swollen on incision line. Primarily it is centered above pubic bone. What bothers me is that I am more swollen right of center than left. The pubic area is also swollen. I thought I would be able to look down and see my pubic bone! Lol How are you doing?
  20. Well, had my pre-op visit with my surgeon and pre-admission testing done today. This is it! I told the dr. that I was feeling frustrated and like I'm not following the diet instructions because I've hardly lost any weight (6 lbs) in 1 week and he reassured me that the idea is for the liver to shrink, it's not for me to lose weight, so that made me feel a whole lot better. They also gave me the name of some vitamin patches (which I can't remember right now 🤔) that they want me to use for the first month so I'm ordering those today. I need to arrive at the hospital by 5:30am and confirmed I am his first case so I joked with the nurse when I told her, well that's good! He will have had a good night's sleep so he'll be fresh and ready to start with me haha!! 8 more days to go! 😀

I had revion from VBG to RNY 12/3. SW 230. CW 205. Im having the exact same issues you are. The more I read I am noticing that many bariatric patients say stalls happen alot. Dont worry. Youve done very well for 9 weeks post opp. Be happy for yourself!
  22. Hey all.. I was sleeved 12/1 HW 432 SW 416 and current weight fluctuates between 378 and 370. Im not losing inches or pounds. I have multiple chronic illnesses, including PCOS. Goals consistently met, following plan. Its been almost a month and a half stalled. Ive tried everything- sugar, alcohol, carbs, protein. Cannot workout due to POTS, so doing what I can at home. Frustrated beyond belief. Sent from my SM-N986U1 using BariatricPal mobile app
  23. Pre-op I had reflux for years but it resolved any time I lost a significant amount of weight. I used to take Ranitidine as required, and more recently Omeprazole. I definitely considered bypass rather than sleeve, and my surgeon talked me through the pros and cons of both, but in the end I gambled on weight loss curing it again, and it has. If he had nudged me towards bypass I would have done that though. My regime is 3 months of PPI after surgery so I'll be stopping it in another week or so. I know or at least strongly suspect I'll be fine without it.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

It really really isn't rwgtwins. You'll see a loss soon - you have to if you're sticking to your program. Stalls are so frustrating. Mine, immediately post op, was just under 3 weeks but it felt like 3 centuries. Bet you anything you'll be back here next week with 3 or 4lbs off to report.
  25. 🎵 Look at my sig!! I am so happy to be half way to my goal weight. 12 weeks since my op tomorrow and in that time I've lost 33lbs. I know it's likely to slow down, and I've had one stall of almost 3 weeks already but I am so amazed by how well this surgery has gone for me. I used to read about you all losing or having lost stones and stones and never really thought it would be me. Part of me still doesn't believe it! I was always hoping I would reach my goal by a year post op and I really think I can do it now. Huge thanks to all of you who have shared your knowledge and experience and helped me this far. I'll stop now - it's beginning to feel like a bad Oscars acceptance speech. 🤣
