So very sorry to hear of your troubles post op. Is Dr Credi a general surgeon or does he specialize in bariatric surgery? Also, are you saying that you were released from hospital after blood transfusion for unknown reason. Later returned to hospital and was diagnosed with a leak? This is very scary and I do hope that you are finally on the mend.

Dr Juan Lopez Corvala, Angeles Health—past patients?
Tracinafisher posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I am scheduled for sleeve surgery on 4/11/18 with Dr. Lopez Corvala. Looking for past patients of his and their full experiences before, during, and after their surgeries. I’m feeling a little uninformed compared to those I know who have had bariatric surgery in the US. Please help settle these nerves! :-) -
First appointment ever (HELP)
MissSimpson replied to Octobermommy3's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just told my doctor that I’d tried losing weight. She knew I had taken pills and lost and gained. Done weight watchers. I asked for a referral to the bariatric surgeon in town. My doc was very understanding about it. She went through everything with me before I talked to the surgeon. Good luck! -

Endoscopic Sleeve with Dr. Sadek in NJ, has anyone done this procedure with him?
VSGnewguy replied to hope4momof4's topic in Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Forum
I looked for a surgeon with a lot of experience. The doctor I chose has been in bariatrics for about 15 years and currently does about 10 VSG's per week. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using BariatricPal mobile app -
Maybe you have epilepsy and do not know it and did you your doctor recommend this diet bliziar? Most likely not being that the originator of the thread mention earlier that his nutritionist said NO, NO. I stand corrected maybe its not a textbook definition fad diet, just the one's taking the risk doing it makes this diet a fad, when the diet was design for other uses. "The ketogenic diet is a high-fat, adequate-protein, low-carbohydrate diet that in medicine is used primarily to treat difficult-to-control epilepsy in children". However, I am not buying for a minute bariatric surgeons will ever recommend this diet for any of their patients and I agree with Russ nutritionist advice that this diet is a horrible idea and worst advice to give to any bariatric patient, not knowing their full circumstances.

Kind of worried - daily calorie intake
Creekimp13 replied to Brittanyblue's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
And my "binder plan" says 1000-1200 calories per day as soon as possible. LOL:) Ya can't win. They're different. Why are they different? Because bariatric endocrinology is an emerging science. My doc is part of a group that is studying the effects of longterm low calorie eating on metabolism after WLS. They've found that people who are on the traditional lower calorie diet the first year....lose weight faster, but lose comparable total amounts to people who eat 1200 calories over the first 18 months. Further....people who eat more in the early stages have less regain at 5 and 10 years post-op than people whose calories were very restricted early on. The theory is that you should avoid starvation levels of calories when resetting your metabolism. Those who are told to eat lower amounts of calories the first year....have doctors who are following the traditional tried and true bariatric program that has existed for years. Those who are eating more in the first year and are encouraged to reach 1200 as soon as they can....tend to have doctors who have been following the new research on better long term outcomes. Neither are wrong. It just depends on the beliefs of who you are working with. My group's protocol was developed by a research hospital and is being adopted by Cedars Sinai and Bethesda this year. -
The gas thing my main worry, I hate the feeling now and I can’t imagine feeling it even more after surgery 🤔 iv done the 6mo WW and just finished the seminar, was scheduled for the consultation on the 31st of this month, what I’m confused about it the Physch evaluation, will the surgeon set all that up or will I need to go back to my primary for that referral? I was sent to Western bariatrics, appt is with DR Chin.

I do a modified keto. Meaning I do not do the high fat, yet I do very low carb and the high protien that is required by my nutritionist. this also helped. https://www.bariatriceating.com/2017/03/bee-keto-bariatric-plan/

The Surgeon I was referred to was from the Surgeon who did my surgery. Bellevue does not have plastic surgeons doing the surgeries for the bariatric patients any longer. that's why I'm trying get recommendations for other surgeons. thank you for responding

I am two years out as of 1/11/18. I went through the process to be approved for a panniculectomy here in NY and BCBS denied me saying it is not medically necessary. I have rashes, smell and itching most of the time. It's embarrassing to be intimate with my husband and we've been together 35+ years. I'm depressed over this. Any advice on getting it approved? The surgeon I went to at Harlem Hospital was, in my opinion, very disinterested in doing my surgery. He did not send in photos or description of my issues. Any reference to a bariatric plastic surgeon would also be appreciated.

I would say.... Are you considering weight loss surgery, too? I can hook you up with my surgeon:) It's possible that she, herself, has had bypass in the past and she had a different experience than you're having. I know other sleevers who are horrified I ate 1000 calories a day at 3 weeks...even though I'm following my doctor's orders precisely. Because my doctor's orders conflicts with theirs....i'm wrong and there's no winning. LOL:) I think you should investigate why she's so interested. I'd ask her if she's had bypass herself. When she says...Should you be eating that? Ask...her if she's a secret bariatric surgeon or bariatric nutritionist? Because surely her expertise must be coming from some hidden formal education. She'll undoubtedly counter.....Well, I'm just concerned that you're going to hurt yourself and blah blah blah... To which you should respond.....Thank you for your concern, but what, exactly, gives you the right to address my medical issues? I don't recall soliciting your input. She'll blather on about trying to help. Say....I don't experience your comments that way. I experience them as criticism and harassment. Kindly stop. And then change the subject and try to end on a positive note. Ending on a more positive note is important. You do have to work with her...and she might just be too dumb to realize she has no business commenting. For all you know, she lives with someone who nitpicks everything she eats. Try to give her that benefit of the doubt and let it go. Should do the trick.

My Head Hunger Rant
fruitandveggies replied to Creekimp13's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
What I can't figure out is how much we actually need to eat. I know it varies by individual, so there's no real answer. But it still drives me nuts. My nutritionist is telling me that a bariatric patient at maintenance needs about 1000 calories a day. What? How is that possible? How is it that regularly sized humans are maintaining their weight at 1000 cals? So I've been aiming to do that much daily but it's freaking impossible. I feel like I'm starving all the time and my BED is coming back full force. The last few days I said screw it and ate whatever I wanted and ended up eat over 2500 cals and laying in bed most of the day (so I'm eating way over my TDEE). I'm trying to be compliant but every time I try, I end up eating like a crazy person. So I'm with you, I must be having REAL HUNGER. Not sure what calorie level will turn that off. -
First appt with bariatric surgeon
Little Green replied to TexasMommy80's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is so awesome! I love seeing doctors resist the professional peer pressure to do things that aren't evidence-based. (Dr. Matthew Weiner has a video on YouTube with the title, "Bariatric Patients, Eat Your Veggies First!" and with all the "protein first, protein first!" talk, that rebellious title just tickles me.) I do agree with your surgeon about the #'s on losing weight once you're severely obese. It seems like the metabolic and hormonal changes that the fat tissue causes in the body are really difficult to overcome. For me, the #'s for people overweight from childhood (check) and BMI above 50 (check) were so abysmal that even before I considered surgery I had trouble believing I would ever lose weight. I felt like I was fooling myself. I'm glad I finally chose to go forward with surgery and I look forward to maintaining weight loss for the rest of my life! Congrats on taking the first step! Surgery will be here before you know it. -

Most Bariatric nutritionists aren't in private practice. Here are two practices that are highly regarded by the Bariatric community that accept private patients: Lisa Kaouk, RD & Monica Bashaw, RD https://bariatricsurgerynutrition.com/ and Elizabeth Anderson MA, RDN, LD 978-549-1229 eliz@crackerjacknutrition.com https://www.crackerjacknutrition.com/ -
Pre-op exercise
Apple203 replied to Down South Aussie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Me! I have 4 weeks of physical therapy in "BOP", a bariatric optimization program ordered by surgeon. BOP is strongly encouraged by my surgeon both before and after surgery, 4 weeks each, but not mandatory. I'm starting, tho, with 4 weeks of PT for hips, knees and balance, ordered by ortho. I also picked up a 21-day starter program online with free weights for my upper body. Baby steps :-) Gotta say, it feels good to move again!! Oh, and I haven't started BOP for another two weeks, so I am curious to say what others have done! -
You ever leave a glass bottle in the freezer to get it cold, then forget about it and it breaks? That because stuff expands as it freezes. It's not good to fill something that can break or be damaged with something that expands. Carbonated beverages expand. Some bariatric patients say they can get away with them. But like creekimp13 says above, virtually all surgeons will insist this is a terrible idea. Me, I got really into hot tea, which has been a nice substitute. And it settles my stomach rather than upsetting it, which is a bonus.

My NUT is a lowfat textbook nutritionist basically. This bariatric office is only a year old and while the physician is an accomplished surgeon the staff is fairly young and inexperienced with this genre of patients, in my opinion. I just emailed last week and basically received no suggestions as to breaking my month long stall. Also I was not impressed by the group meetings - I kept asking 6 months prior to surgery and never received the information on them until the month of surgery. I went once and there was no interactions with each other - there were 2 testimonials from RNY success stories, nothing for GS and no discussions amongst attendees. And at that mtg the NUT was more interested in whispering to a colleague while the Psych led the program. He was VERY enthusiastic and engaged. I will try again in March, I have a conflict in February.

Hey Cathy! I didn't know there were powder vitamins lol but the ones that's I have are bariatric advantage brand, I haven't started them yet though until next week. And during Ur purée stage is a time to get creative, u can get cans a low fat refried beans put come cheese on it for extra protein, u can make tuna or egg salad blended up creamy texture. That's what I plan on doing. Sent from my Nexus 7 using BariatricPal mobile app

For those who self-paid how much was your surgery?
kakatlady612 replied to DRoseman's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@DRoseman, if you can't find one in NW Ohio I would check maybe Fort Wayne Indiana or Southern Michigan. And I think I saw awhile back someone was having it done in Lima, Findlay and Akron on BP. I'm going to Columbus, although my local hospital has started doing limited Bariatrics they don't do,BMI above 40 and not the RnY I need because of GERD. I know Cincy has good programs and there's one at West Chester that I've heard good things of. How about OSU or University at Cleveland, they might have bariatric clinics at lower rates since they are teaching, hospitals. I'm sure there is an answer to this problem and you're gonna find it. Creekimp13 replied to ElseeG's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Best thing to do is to take your medication question straight to a bariatric surgeon. Email the office so the doc can write a response at his/her convenience. I'm sure they'll answer. Or schedule a consultation appointment. You could also ask a pharmacist. Best wishes and good luck:)
