Clear liquids post-Op for 7 days?
JDLane replied to DaisyAndSunshine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My week 1 was clears plus protein shakes. Then full liquids which included yogurts, jello, soups, thinned oatmeal, etc. It gets much easier when you on to full liquids and then puree's feels like heaven when you reach that! -
OK, so today is my second day post-op. I was advanced to full liquids, meaning yogurt, skim milk, cream soup, and watered down cream of wheat. So far, the food is staying down with no problem. I was supposed to be discharged today, but yesterday afternoon I developed a fever of 100.4 and chills, and my blood pressure dropped to 102/48. They’re monitoring my temperature and BP today and I expect to go home tomorrow. I’m not experiencing any pain at all. (I fully expected to be pretty miserable, but I’m not!) All of my food is being served in tiny 2 ounce cups. I’ll add a photo of today’s lunch (tomato soup and skim milk).

I really like the Dannon Light & Fit Greek yogurt with fruit mixed in. It's 80 calories, 0% fat, and 2x Protein than regular yogurt. I am 7 days out and I ate my first full cup yesterday... it only took me an hour! LOL

2 Months post op Huge stall! Am I doing something wrong?
Domika03 replied to sleevinIT's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Abigail! I know you don't want to hear this, but you have to make an apt to see your Dr., or in the very least, talk to your NUT. This person will have the knowledge to help you & suggest what you can do to get back on track. More importantly, do NOT be ashamed of yourself. This is a tough journey & we really need to work hard to make it work BUT IT DOES WORK!!! You didn't mention what you're eating or how much. That's the first thing I'd look at. I had my surgery done on Jan 16th, so I'm about 5 1/2 weeks out. I had my band removed & revised to the sleeve. Here's an example of what I eat at this point. Keep in mind, everyone's food menu is slightly different the first 6 - 8 weeks. It all depends on the Dr's office: Breakfast: 1/2 - 3/4 cup of egg whites mixed with feta cheese, turkey crumbles and spinach or 1 egg feta cheese, turkey crumbles and spinach or Protein drink (Greek yogurt, Pure Protein vanilla creme shake w/ 1 scoop of Pure Protein vanilla powder). I actually don't like chocolate that much lunch 1/2 cup - 3/4 cup of tuna fish blended with low-fat mayo 1/2 cup - 3/4 cup of leftover dinner from night before Dinner 1/2 - 3/4 cup of any lean protein (like homemade ham & navy bean Soup in the crock pot) 1/2 -3/4 cup of turkey chili (in the crock pot) tonight I'm making Lemony Lentil & Spinach Soup (yup, in the crock pot again, LOL) *No, I don't use the crock pot all the time, but it does help) I hope this might help you. But, I really think you should call your NUT. They're job is to help you. Do NOT be ashamed. Nothing to be ashamed of. You are NOT alone my dear. Most of us enjoy helping & encouraging others. You CAN do this & you WILL be successful. Best of luck & hang in there! -
2 Months post op Huge stall! Am I doing something wrong?
nesa83 replied to sleevinIT's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know it's hard I'm 2 months post op and I've lost 72lbs. I recently started eating more my intake is higher then a half a cup and it scares me. Remember your protein water stay away from sweets minimize carbs. I've learned to cut back and change my foods. I plan I'm starting a workout maybe Zumba I want to do insanity but I doubt my body could handle it. I suggest you see your doctor or email your nutritionist. I email mine all the time lol. Any questions message me. If I were you I wouldn't do that yogurt diet you did this surgery to help you not so you could live on a diet. Good luck. -
I'm 4 days post op and feeling hungry. Before I was discharged my Dr. advanced me to a full liquid diet because I was handling clear fluids well. I've had a light yogurt, cream of wheat, and a protein shake today and I still feel hungry. (Keeping up with my water intake as well) Has anybody else gone through this and how did you work past it?

Am I eating too much for 10 days post-op?
wesja posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, I had gastric bypass on 12/20/2017. I am absolutely amazed at how easy my recovery has been. I was expecting much worse and I almost wonder if my surgeon just made incisions and didn't do anything, LOL. In all seriousness, I am very fortunate and happy to be doing so well. Today is 10 days post-op and I have a question about what I am eating. So my surgeon told me to start with 64 oz of liquids and 50 g of protein a day. Once I could get that down I could move on to plain yogurt, cottage cheese, and applesauce. So I started yogurt and applesauce 3 days out with no issue, then added cottage cheese 4 days out (only a small amount). Then once I could eat about a 1/2 cup of cottage cheese, I tried the next phase (mashed veggies) about 6 days out. It hurt at first so I waited to try mashed sweet potato again yesterday (9 days out). It went really well! So my question is this: this morning (day 10) I ate an entire half of a medium sweet potato (mashed up) with no problem! It took me about 10 minutes to eat it all. I was led to believe that I wouldn't be able to eat this much for a while. Is this normal or did I already stretch my stomach or something? I don't see my surgeon until Jan 2 because of Xmas and New Year's, so I wanted to get some reassurance. -
Surgery 10-25-12 I'm on my third week, first week all I could handle was popsicles an flavored water.. second week all I could handle was unsweetened Apple sauce an organic kids on the go yogurts an flavored water.. third week now suppose to try eat mashed potatoes which I've tried an they seemed to do okay an boiled eggs which didn't go well an refried beans smashed which my stomach didn't like after the first tiny bite :'( I'm do drained all the time cuz I'm not getting anything solid in me an my vitamins make me sick.

4 weeks out, not too many complaints
alwaysonadiet replied to CubsWinCubsWin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Getting to the 4th week sure does make a huge difference. Before now I thought I was going to die and wondered what I did to myself. I wasn't one of the lucky ones that had it easy with no discomforts. I ended up in the ER at day 4. Anyway I am feeling great now it really does just take time. I have only lost 20 lbs in 4 weeks, but I only have 50-60 lbs to lose anyway so I'm happy with that. I don't eat much mostly cottage cheese and yogurt. Haven't tried meat yet, but I have the tuna cans ready. -
It Seems Like Nothing Seems To Agree With Me :'(

Try cottage cheese Greek yogurt. I like Dannon fit n light Cream of chicken Soup Hope this helps Sent from my Galaxy S III using RNYTalk -
I'm not a breakfast eater, so I will often make smoothies for breakfast. In my green smoothie, I add 2 whole cups of packed fresh spinach. I don't even taste the spinach because the fruit hides the flavor. It took me a long time to realize that I was focusing too much on Protein and not nearly enough on fruits and veggies. Colon cancer runs in my family and I had a pre-cancerous polyp removed a while back. I now focus more on fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. I still eat meat, but rarely ever eat red meat anymore. I also get protein from Greek yogurt and Beans. I eat edamame all the time, it's one of my favorite vegetables. if you don't think you can eat the veggies, try smoothies. It's a great way to get the nutrients in without having to struggle to get them down.

Hi Brit ~ I should of read that post after I ate breakfast! All of that food made me hungry! What kind of frozen yogurt do you eat? I am doing okay with purees. Your recipe ideas will help me mix it up a little so I do appreciate it! My thing is that I get stuck with certain foods I love in the beginning and then I burn myself out on them. Last week I weighed myself and I lost 28 pounds since surgery. I think a lot of it has to do with drinking liquids for two weeks because now that I am on purees it has slowed down some. Where did you have your surgery done?

Calories in a day
lizonaplane replied to rfranklin's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I agree with what everyone else said, but I will say that right away after surgery I was eating 400-500 calories a day, but it was all protein drinks and yogurt. Around 4 months out I was eating 900-1100 calories a day, and now at five months out, it's still basically that, although some days are higher or lower. -

4 weeks out, but barely any weight loss in the last 2 weeks.... !?!?
NickiTriesAgain posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone! This is my first post or topic, though I've come to really rely on the advice and encouragement I find here. What a wonderful community. My question- or rather my worry- is this: I've barely lost any weight in the last 2 weeks, even though I'm only 4 weeks post op. My first week I lost about 10 lbs., but I wasn't really able to eat or drink much after all the medications. Once they were out of my system, I felt so much better! Over the next 2 weeks, I lost about 6 lbs., but nothing in the last week. The scale just sits and stares at me. Other than that, I'm doing really well- exercising, drinking lots of Water, trying to get enough Protein. I will say that I did not stay on the liquid diet after the first 2 weeks and have moved onto to almost any soft(ish) food, usually high in protein. I can eat chicken, turkey, yogurt, hummus, even vegetables.... almost anything with no problems. Small bites, chew-chew-chew and stop when you feel full. Even though I'm eating such small amounts, the WEIGHT-- it stays!! Is this normal? Will it start to fall off? Are there other people who did well off the liquid/pureed diet or did it bite them in the butt??- 14 replies

How often to eat/drink first week
joeie replied to tennisboy11's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine was 12-28. I found it easy to constantly sip water/Gatorade. I kept it on me everywhere I went. The protein was hard initially to get 60g. I am honestly still having trouble with it but it’s getting easier. I have found that i can do 4 gulps of premiere protein shake at a time. So I try to take 4 gulps every 2-3 hours. Then for lunch I have a yogurt. Then I start my second shake when I get home. Then for dinner I have Campbell’s tomato soup watered down (not much of it), and then before bed i try to finish my second shake. This seems to be a pretty good routine and is actually pretty easy to consume throughout the day. Hope this helps!! -
Which Pre-Op Diet Is Best??
honk replied to Sazparella's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would ask your doctor about whether they want you to add protein powder. As for yogurt Greek style has A LOT more protein. I buy low fat Chobani that have fruit and add splendra because it tends to be more sour than regular yogurt. -
Take a look at the Kashi oatmeals - they have a little Protein (could up it with Protein powder and/or milk) and a good portion of Fiber which might be satisfying. Cottage cheese (I looove the chive flavor) has a similar texture to oatmeal but more protein - if oatmeal goes down okay, maybe cottage cheese will, too. Or Fage yogurt - lots of protein and really different texture (creamy, not liquid-y - more like sour cream) compared to regular yogurt - I flavor mine with a tiny bit of honey or a squirt of sugarfree Da Vinci syrup. I get Fage at Trader Joe's or at a local natural foods grocery. Good luck!

1 oz cheese? I too like the greek yogurt and have one at work almost always. Nuts, a Protein bar-watch the sugars.... Good luck!

????????Quick Question❓
triciareadytolose replied to ☁️9⃣B????'s topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have tried it in many things but not crystal lite. I love it in my morning coffee. I whisk the powder with my sugar free creamer real well then add my coffee. It is awesome and love to be able to get some of my Protein intake for the day without really tasting the protein. By the way it is nasty in yogurt. -
Hi! I’ve lurked for a week or now. I finally got the courage to post. I have a question about the eating phases that you all were told to follow. My SD was on 12/14. I am on full liquid diet for a total of five weeks (protein shakes, blended soups, oatmeal, yogurt, SF jello, SF popsicles, applesauce, etc. ) all only 1/4 cup at a time. I’m concerned that I will begin solid foods without a real transition to solids. Also, I am having a hard time with drinking water, protein shakes and eating. It’s a juggling mess right now. Can’t get it all in. What were you told to eat and when? Do you have any sample schedules that you can share?

What Does Your Stomach Feel Like When You Eat?
lisa2job replied to smithpy's topic in Food and Nutrition
during the first few months your stomach is still healing, there is allot of sweeling and untill you get to soft and solid food you won't feel much restriction. the dencer protien of the item the more restriciton. note I can polish off a whole 5 oz container of yogurt no problem but can only eat 2 oz of chicken and am super full.... I am going on my 8 week mark and my stomach still rumbles with certain food and when I add new items to my diet. -
I have heard that a lot of unflavored protiens are not really unflavored. Does anyone use unflavored isopure I met one lady who says she puts it in everything and can't taste it...therefore she is adding protien to almost anything she drinks and even into yogurts and other puree like foods. It is rather expensive and I didn't want to buy it unless I really think it is unflavored. I am thinking about adding it into crystal light and other clear liquids but not sure how well that was going to work???
