    On the other side

Hi camper! I was also sleeved June 2nd and feeling great for the most part. My incisions are itchy but healing skin always is. My abdominal muscles are still a little sore and I am kinda over this liquid diet lol. Mushies start the 16th yay!! I've lost 25 lbs since starting two week pre-op diet!!! My pants almost fell off at my little Bro's hockey game like 6 times! I'm excited but kinda sad that I have to get rid of clothes...I freakin love clothes lol

    Liquid Diet

I had my liquid diet two weeks prior but it included 1 meal, protein and 1-2 cups of veggies. I know the first day, I had to eat half my protein at 2:30. I ate later my other half with veggies After that I was able to drink two protien shakes and make it till 5 for dinner. I cheated with egg drop soup twice I think. I was also able to drink homemade broth so that kept me from starving kinda. If you want a bite try 1 spoon of what you are craving. Just to get it out of your system. I see nothing wrong.

    Called out!

Every week, I take a class at my gym (LA Fitness) called Body Works Plus abs. It is what I term a fast and light weight class. Fast enough that you get a cardio effect while doing it, along with high reps (as opposed to the slow and heavy stuff I do in the weight room). The class has 2.5, 5 and 7.5 lb dumbbells in it. Stronger people (usually guys and super fit broads) can go out to the floor and get heavier bells if they want. Normally I take a pair of all three. Last night, Florence, the instructor, walked by and called me out about the 2.5s! She said I was strong enough to stop using them. The high reps do exhaust me! So I took that as a challenge, because normally I do use the 2.5s on some of the shoulder work because I am weak like a kitten in the upper body. I basically only used the 5s and 7.5s for the class. I didn't die. So I guess Florence was right. If this is worst of the problems in my life, I have it pretty good.

    3 Days PostOp

I’m ALSO three days post-op and I’m having the exact same experience as you two. Clearly, this must be normal since all three of us are having the same experiences. I don’t feel particularly full. I’m surprised by how much I’m able to eat - particularly the protein shake (still it’s not a lot). And the tummy grumbling is crazy. Let’s all just decide to think positively.

    is this NORMAL?

i got a call from a doctor on base, calling to give me some info from the wonderful young doctor i saw a week or so ago. APPARENTLY, the surgeons on base didnt approve my surgery because i hadnt been to any bariatric classes. (im assuming this is to talk about the procedure, the band and the lifestyle change that it requires?) so in short, my doctor put in a referral for bariatric classes at the David Grant medical center general surgery clinic (the hospital on base). supposedly, after i attend the classes, i can get a referral to the surgeon i want off base. if this is the confusion im facing now, i cant wait until i have to deal with Tricare!
  6. I didn't start puréed until 18 days out and even then could only eat a couple tablespoons and I was full for the rest of the day. I had to drink most of my fluids for the day before eating anything later in the afternoon because afterwards I was too full to drink. After about a week, I could eat puree's 2 times a day and not be too full. Same thing happened once I started soft foods. 2 tbls and I'd be stuffed for the rest of the day. I just transitioned through my stages super slow and was feeling pretty normal by 3 months out.

    My Journey

Hi Michelle, I am a patient of Dr. Nicholson as well. My surgery date is 4-4-2011 and I'm very excited! The approval process went very fast for me, and I had to do the same requirements you are required to do. I started on the last week of January (with the insurance process) and I was approved on March 3rd. Congrats on your journey! It's cool to actually find someone on this site that has the same doctor!
  8. Hi! So I'm excited yet so nervous I'm about to start the purée stage of my program. I received a week by week packet but it is very vague. I know a lot of it is a gamble because everyone is different, but I'm looking for suggestions on things and brands you may have tried during this period. On my list is said yogurt, puréed soup, scrambled eggs, and cottage cheese. Any advice anyone would like to share would be greatly appreciated!! ????????????

    PS: TMI question

It took a few days, then seemed to stop up again a week or two out--Miralax ( or the generic walgreens version of it) really helped. SInce it mixes in liquid and does not have a taste it was easy to get down with crystal light.
  10. Well I finally made it. I was banded on July 31st and I'm just starting to get back to "normal". I think my biggest mistake was underestimating the amount of pain that is caused by the gas used during surgery. Luckily it was almost completely gone by the next day. For a few days I was in quite a bit of pain (at least more than I expected) but now it's mostly just a sort of muscle ache. So far I'm not really hungry but I am finding myself getting a little depressed at times when I see others eating. It's not so much missing food as it is missing that since or normancy. Hopefully I will be able to continue to find good advice through this forum.

    So Tired!

B12 is a great idea. Even better than the chewables are the sublingual (under the tongue) ones. I got mine at CVS. I learned a valuable lesson, though. I took it after dinner and had a terrible time sleeping. Three am trip to Walmart to work off the energy, lol.
  12. Ok I am just curious what a typical day looked like as far as food and exercise.... Before looking into the sleeve______ After your first doctor visit______ Once you had a surgery date______ During Pre-op diet______ During Post op recovery_____ 8 weeks+ past surgery_______ Just out of curiosity

    Hypo and worried!

Here is the run down... Had vsg 2 years ago. Lost 180 pounds. Pre-vsg I had a slew of health issues. PCOS, high lipids, high blood pressure, diabetes...you name it, I had it. Now...I am 10 weeks pregnant. I see a high risk ob with consultation from my Bari surgeon. However, I now have to eat every hour or two and for the first time in my life, I am constantly hypo! Docs are ok with 1 hour post meal bs at 70. My body is not. I also had two miscarriages pre-vsg and was constantly hyper with them. I am struggling to keep weight gain at a minimum but loading carbs is zapping me! Any advice?

    Gallbladder problem or not?

  17. It has been a long time since I posted on this site. I have been so busy doing everything required of me by BCBS plus working plus taking care of my family. All of my paperwork was faxed over to BCBS on 06/23 for review. I am waiting to hear back from them. The insurance co-ordinator at the surgeon's office told me they can take up to 30 days before giving a decision. I really want to call them to see where they are in regards to my request but am hesitant to do so for fear of denial. Logically I know there is no reason for them to deny me-I have met all of their requirements. I did the 6 month diet, I had the sleep study which uncovered that I do have sleep apnea, I used(and am still using) my CPAP machine continuously for 2 weeks averaging 6 hours per night which is required by my ENT BEFORE she will/would give me clearance for surgery and I met with the psychologist. I am well over 100 lbs overweight and my bmi is 55. When I first started this journey my bmi was 63, I have lost 43 lbs while doing the 6 month diet which excites me to no end. I am still going around showing people the waist band of my pants and how it is too big .
  18. This was mentioned on a post so I thought I'd bring it up. I have a highest weight of 298,,which was in November of 2011. i lost 9 pounds between then and my preop diet which brought me down to 289. I lost 16 pounds on my preop diet which took me down to 273 but then a week after surgery,,I got that leak..and during tpn I gained 13 pounds. When I went off of tpn I lost the 13 pounds again and an additional 27.2 pounds which brings me down to my current weight of 245.8. So where should I begin??,,this may seem petty but since I readjusted my ticker to reflect my preop diet weight,,I'm really missing those 9 pounds that I worked hard to get off..it was the first time I had really tried to get going on this whole journey. Just something I'm pondering on and wondering what others think.

    Hungry

I am 1 week post - op and I feel like I'm starving. Nutritionist wants me on liquids one more week but I don't know if I can handle it. I am anxious about this entire decision to have the surgery. I feel confused as how to move on, what to eat, how much to eat, etc. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Alcohol

My doctor also said carbonation was a myth, as was gum, and pretty much admitted it was to keep people from downing sodas. I asked because I'm a drinker of mineral water and they were like, "oh sure that's fine."! I'm six weeks out and had a little soda water the other night with some watermelon juice and I was fine.

    Nsv - First Family Dinner

Thank you so much for this post. I start my pre-op shakes next Monday and surgery is June 4th and this issue is giving me the most anxiety. Thanksgiving and Christmas is held at my parents, because it's easier on them in the winter, I host all spring, summer & fall functions like Mother's Day, Memorial Day, Father's Day, 4th, Birthdays through Labor Day. I'm not doing Memorial Day this year because I'll be on shakes only, I'm really upset about Father's Day because it will be 2 weeks out from surgery. My surgeon expects 5-6 weeks of liquids AFTER surgery. I think it will be much too hard for me and I do wonder what it will be like for all the other holidays this year like Thanksgiving & Christmas. I am hoping to be at my goal weight for my parent's 50th in December, hopefully that will make up Father's Day. He's my biggest supporter of the surgery, yet he's the most apprehensive about it too.
  22. Hi all! I just found out that my dr was able to get my insurance to pay for my lapband replacement or removal! They had denied it last week and after an appeal and peer review - he got it approved!! I will self pay for the plication. Yipppeee!! After the denial, I was trying to prepare myself to fight for the sleeve gastrectomy but now I don't have to! What a relief! Since this is my 3rd surgery (band, hernia and port replaced previously) I'm not too nervous about post-op but now I'm feeling anxious about having ANOTHER surgery. I have 2 little ones at home, a career and a husband but I'm doing this for me and to make my life better with them! Ok - any advice from those of you that have had plication would be helpful! Thanks VSP family! genepha

    Physiological Changes After WLS

I'd like to know as well (or maybe rather not?) - I think I've reached that point, stalling for several weeks now. No tendency to gain but also not losing. However, I'm still not back to my usual physical activity. First the prolonged shoulder problems (still bothering me) and just a few days after I started running again and biking to work again since the streets are no longer slippery because of low temperatures I lie more or less flat on my back with a cold. I only need a few kg more to reach normal weight so I'm not really sweating it but I guess a lot of people on here know what I mean: we want these last 5 or 6 kg! (even though the surgeons are already raving about us being successful)

    Weight loss Timetable/Stall

unless you're the size of one of the participants on "My 600 lb Life", your weight loss is normal. I lost 16 lbs the first month. Many of us (probably most) lost somewhere between 15-25 lbs the first month. Stalls along the way are also very normal, the first one usually occurring within the first 4-6 weeks after surgery (often the 3rd week, which is why we call it "the three week stall"). I have mixed feelings about "My 600 lb Life" because I think it gives a lot of WLS patients unrealistic expectations. Starting BMI is one of the factors that influence your rate of weight loss, and the people on that show tend to start out at MUCH higher BMI's than your average WLS patient. As long as your weight is trending down, relax. I was a "slow loser" from the get-go, and I lost all of my excess weight - over 200 lbs.
