Who is having surgery this week (May 3-7)
bellaisgreat replied to AFmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Naming my band was my hubbys idea... He said I should give it a name so that I would feel more connected to my band. :w00t: its wrapped around my stomach, idk how much more connected you can get! Well, I didnt get a chance to go to the mall last night to weigh in @ GNC. The only reason Im doing this is because im trying to weigh myself after every stage. Liquids and now Mushies. I go back to the doc next week for my follow up.:w00t: I just wish I wasnt so hungry  i had a bit to much Protein yesterday and it did NOT agree with me  I def tell the difference in my clothes already. Does anyone have any NSVs yet? (non scale victories) do you guys think we should move this thread to the POST OP section of this site? -

.but darn it, I can't think of it....what does NSV stand for? I know what it means, just can't think of the words!!!! -
Delarla, you are not a day late you are right on time. I guess me and your hubby share the big day. Is he as weird as me? I am having a great day with my family. We went to lunch and I had broccoli soup. (I can't have solids right now) I actually managed a size 14 in regular Old Navy jeans today!! Woo Hoo!! Birthday NSV's are the best. Thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes! ~Mandy

Starting Over, I am a firm believer of using the scale that makes you feel good. I weighed myself on my own scale before surgery and continue to weigh myself on my own scale and frankly I use those numbers, so my goal weight will probably be 5 pounds or more heavier at the Dr.'s office then on my own scale. However, I know I will feel and look good at the number I chose for my home scale. IMO, If the old number makes you feel better the pack up the new scale and use the old one, for now. Also, it makes sense that if you were working out you only lost two pounds. I bet if you had taken measurements you would see that you lost inches not pounds those two weeks. My scale hasn't moved in about a month however my clothes are still getting more loose. So, start thinking of your NSV's when you get down about the number. Starting over, I bet you will see you have had quite a few!

Admit this may be a long one so I apologize upfront for that! I was ridiculously out of control in my eating habits therefore I was also crazy worried about my ability to make the change. I did begin changing my habits before surgery. I began walking short distances as the 8 stairs up from my basement had me huffing and puffing. Initially I dreaded having to walk the 3 blocks to pick up my children from school. For almost 2 decades I never really dealt with hunger because I often ate so consistently I don't think I ever allowed myself to get hungry. I woke up and thought about what I would eat for Breakfast, after breakfast i focused on lunch but had Snacks, etc... I literally ate from wakeup, to my head hitting the pillow and often got up to eat more before I actually fell asleep. I remember eating 2 footlong subway subs in a sitting, and this wasn't a one time marathon thing; driving to 7-11 at midnight for junk food and then eating most of what I thought I would eat over 2-3 days. So I get it completely. Frankly I was scared sh**less that I would fail, or sabatoge myself along the way. Shortly before my first meeting with my center I had gestational diabetes but it went away immediately after my pregnancy. I admit when I am pregnant I am completely in control and anal about what I put in my mouth so lose weight throughout them. Of course post nursing forget about it! So after finding out I had no choice but to switch to formula I actually managed to become a full blown diabetic in about 5 months. It was a flurry of chocolate, fries and slurpees! My point being you and I are very much alike in being obsessed with food 24/7. So if I can do it anyone can do it! I found out I had become a diabetic at my first appointment at my bariatric center, March 12, 2013. That was the day the light went on for me, even if it was dim when it started. I walked 15 minutes that first day and I hated it lol. That night I completely lost all control of my sanity as every emotion under the sun came out over every little thing. For a second I thought OMG I am pregnant!! But no, apparently I am an emotional eater so now instead of eating, all of a sudden I was feeling everything and it was completely overwhelming. For this reason I strongly recommend trying to get at least 2-3 days of healthier eating out of the way prior to your liquid pre-op. The mental part of this is by far the hardest, so getting a small advantage before really does help. So expect to be very hormonal when you start out. Tricks of the trade pre-op.. I chewed a lot of stride gum especially during my liquid diet (3 weeks), lifesaver, that is my biggest thing to this day, although no I don't promote it post op as we all know it is a no no and I was 6 months out before I tried it. I drank a lot of low calorie fluids and I planned ahead for meals (before liquid pre-op). For the first little while I kept junk out of the house. I have kids so that's hard, so I chose to buy things they like but I don't, like all dressed chips, or cotton candy ice cream.. My fave thing being a large cup of lite hot chocolate with fat free hazelnut creamer in the evening as a treat and it kept me pretty full.. so I would do it at my peak struggle time. I started keeping fruit that I really liked around, cherries and raspberries and I would go to town. Not ideal but it was certainly better than the alternatives.. smart pop was another fave pre-op. No I was not perfect I had bad days, still do, but I started to convince myself that it didn't have to be a bad day.. instead it was a bad couple hours and then I let it go, guilt has no place on the road to success. It will not motivate you, it will only make you feel worse!! I made a list of all those things i wanted to be able to do post op... and a list of all those things I never wanted to feel or have happen to me again. That was emotional, then I put them up in a cpl places around the house where I thought they would most benefit me. I also included a list of the consequences of failing to follow my liquid diet. Number one of course being a cancelled surgery! So I actually made it through all 3 weeks or 22 days as my nutritionist miscalculated lol. A ton of gum, broth to break up the sweetness, I was allowed 2 cups of raw green veggies/day added garlic salt or seasoning salt.. no dressing allowed! It makes you an idiot about a week in, prepare to write things down as you won't remember them. Drink tons of fluids as the day 3 headache is a nightmare and will likely last a cpl days and nothing will touch it but hydration so stay on top of that. Post-op hunger concerns... I have hunger, boy do I experience real hunger. Now I am not trying to scare you, I didn't experience hunger like this until about 7 months out. So I have had a lot of time to work through better choices and options when I am hungry, the nice thing about being early out is that it won't take much to reel in said hunger if you are one who feels it. Have a cup of broth, some greek yogurt and boom it's gone for another couple hours. Also remember that your intake is soo limited that it is okay to feed it. Sometime just choose to feed it with fluids. That is the biggie, learning to decipher head hunger from actual hunger from thirst!! Once you get that straight your life will quickly become much easier. So pay attention to what each of them feel like, not as hard as it sounds I promise. Further out you can eat more, and I fall off the wagon the last time I was off for almost 4 weeks, stopped exercising too. I gained 5 pounds. The difference is that this time the weight gain actually scared me, having been a 'normal' size for a bit now I got comfortable and this was a well needed reality check. Now considering how much I was eating 5 pounds was kind, so the surgery really is just a tool. You still need to fight those demons for life but when I think about how much weight I could have gained in that same time period preop.. no comparison. I also dropped those 5 pounds during my 'taking back control' week. But what I didn't do is beat myself up for it, I went on a fabulous food vacation and when I landed back in reality I dealt with it. No guilt, just moved on and smartened up. So being kind to yourself is something that gets easier as you go through this process. It's also one of my favourite NSV's.. Sorry so long I admit I am horribly wordy... hope that helps alleviate some of your fears -

The body may be still above average but then so am I! After all, average is just as close to the bottom as it is the top. And if I am a little Odd, well Number One has always been. an ODD Number! Power to the Less Plump Princess, I'm gonna be Weight Loss Royalty#🏆 -
It was ok. I have been very tired though by the time I get home. I have been trying to move a bit more because sitting in a chair can get really uncomfortable after a while! But hey an NSV I've been able to fit into a pair of pants I haven't worn in probably 1 year or more!! I've also been feeling a little sick by hte end of the day but that may be because i'm not burping and farting as much so I have it all inside by the end of the day! :tt2: Most people have made comments on my hair...probably because it is an easier thing to comment on (a bit blonder than previous colours and it was out and nicely straightened because normally I can't be bothered and put it in a ponytail ) I had two girls comment on how much weight I'd lost, one who knows and another who doesn't know which was nice :tt2:

YOU JUST MADE ME FEEL SO GOOD!!! How many people can post about their own NSV's and make everyone else smile? I am smiling not only for you Jacqui, but your NSV's made me smile for me too. I know that despite my temporary feelings as a brand new bandster(2 weeks), in the end, I will get to enjoy the NSV's too. Thank you for keeping our spirits up!!!

I too love your positive spin on a painful incident! I had to have my hip joint injected... not fun... but here is my NSV out of it. They made me put on a huge pair none stretching hospital like shorts. I had to tie them and hold them up.... but I bet that when I was obese I wouldn't have even been able to get them on... and it would have been very humiliating. So, my friend asked how painful the shot was. Yeah, it hurt, but I was very focused on being so exposed during the process of the injection...LOL... totally took my mind off the pain.

But you got this.... Just stick with the program, and it will work. I lost 22 pounds on my 2 week preop and then took another 3 months to lose 30. What worked for me was upping my water and calories. Broke a month long stall doing that. And I've had other stalls along the way, but I just kept eating healthy, getting all my protein, water and vitamins and the eventually would lose a little more. Have faith and enjoy your NSV's.

Big NSV tonight for me. Had to shop for business pants cuz mine are too big. I have dropped not one but TWO pants sizes!!!! I am sooooo excited about this. The scale has been moving very slowly for me, but this is the positive re-inforcement I needed. I can't wait for the day I clean my whole closet out and drop it into a donation box. This is too cool!

@@MichiganChic yes, yes and yes to your above statements being overweight does contribute to many incidents/slips falls my mom ALWAYS "reminded" me of stuff like that anything that happens to you that is bad is because i was overweight probably if i got a splinter she would say its because............... fitting into chairs/booths/hospital gowns was/could frequently be a challange one NSV over a year ago.......... i remember sitting down to sit in the movie theater, and i went woa!!!! there was soooo much room on each side!!!! i said to my sister, they must be making these seats bigger now other time, same situation.... i was walking in the airplane aisle towards my seat, and i realized they also must have made the aisles wider then finally when i sat in the airplane seat - holy moly, there was so much room on each side of me!! like we all know - its the little things don't worry about me and Kohl's - we're attached at the hip you've lost 142 lbs!!!!! that is so amazing!!!! its wonderful how different you/me/we feel after losing weight keep up the great job (i know you will!!!) waiting for you to cross the goal/finish line i'll see you there kathy

I'm only only 5 months post op (sleeve), but I had to post this! HW 308, SW 288, and current weight 198! Yes!!! I've made it to onederland! I know I haven't had as much to lose as some others might have, but this is really exciting! Haven't been this weight since I was 14! It's been a hard road, and it ain't over yet (well, it never will be, really), but it's great to finally be here! Plenty of NSVs along the way! No more meds for blood pressure, cholesterol, and triglycerides. No more snoring at night. Went from a tight size 44 waist to a loose 34. Sent from my SM-G986U using BariatricPal mobile app

Sounds like you are doing amazing - I'm with you on the finding out who I am without the weekend food events - I have always been great during the week, come the weekend I like my outings with my daughter, she is 17, and they always include a meal. My confession - I gave in today - my energy level was just awful, so I ate about 2/3 cup of grilled chicken and 3 bites of a salad. I am stuffed - I guess 11 days on shakes has shrunk my stomach - Yayyyy!!! 1st NSV for me! Lets keep in touch - I love all the support on here, it is amazing!
