  1. I am scheduled for surgery on Monday. I was told to lose 15lbs before my surgery. I am only down 6. I have been on the liquid and leafy green diet for over a week and have only lost 2 lbs (included in the 6). I am concerned they wont do the surgery. Has this happened to anyone.
  2. I'm 5 weeks post op and I was feeling great. However, for the last two days I seem to have some discomfort on my left side where the largest incision is. It travels up to my chest from time to time. I have been walking at a moderate pace somedays, others slow paced. I'm calling my surgeons office in the morning. I was just wondering had anyone else had this happen to them. Thanks in advance for the feedback. Lala

    herbs, spices & Kombucha

It's a given that salt and hot spicey chilies are a no-go in the immediate aftermath of surgery, but what about other herbs and spices? Herbs de Provence, Tarragon, Safron, Sweet Basil. If I'm going to have to live off baby food for a few weeks it would help if I could make it interesting. Also, there is a tea out there called Kombucha which is supposedly really good for your digestion, bowels, etc. I don't know if I believe that but does anyone know if it's okay to drink?

  5. Hello everyone, I am two years out from having my RNY surgery. At first I felt like everything was going great and it really isn't to bad. But in the last couple of weeks I have put on 4 pounds and I am freaking out about it. I feel like I have failed this surgery. I just need some help and encouragement to get me back on track and lose this 4 pounds I put on and 15 more that I wanted to lose after surgery. Any one else put on weight 2 plus years out? And if so where you able to take it back off and how did you do it? Thanks for any help you can give me. Therese
  6. Hi everyone, It's been 3 days after my surgery. I had it done on Tuesday 26th. I think the liquid diet part is the worst!! I hope I can hang, and stop being hungry!!!

    SOMETHING NEW

After 3 days I was allowed to move from clear liquids to heavier liquids. Yes, I relied on shakes from time to time, yogurt, cream soups, etc. This was for 4 days, completing 1 full week. Then for week 2 I was allowed to move on to mushies. As far as "gas pains", there appears to be some confusion, or mix-ups. There are 2 different "gas pains", one of which is from the surgical procedure, the other indigestion. Gas-X will not help the surgical procedure type of trapped gas at all.
  8. Just wondering if anyone can shed some light on what to expect from 2nd port revision. The first one was done 12mths ago, and the tube broke, and i was in extreme pain and had to stay in hospital over night. I went for a fill last week and the stitching has broken and they need to go back in, they couldn't find it. I'm going in first thing in the morning.....am i a whimp, and i'm trying to work out if i will be going home or will i be staying. Is it painful surgery, they have booked me in for a general anaethesia??????? Can anyone give me some advice. Cheers

    blood clot

Hi, I was /had a revision on 6/25 to sleeved. Everything was going ok till Sunday (4days ago). I woke Sunday with back shoulder pain and it hurst to take deep breath. By Monday the breathing was almost unbearable and the pain moved to my rib under my cheast and right back. So went to my Dr. Office which said I'm 4 weeks post-op and should out of the woods for leaks or clots. U may have gas but if the problem is still there by Tuesday (day3) go to emergency room at the hospital where I had my gastric sleeve on 6/25. Well by 3rd day my pain was the roof. After all the test. I have a blood clot and small case of pneumonia in my lungs. ...wow...help

    How long did it take?

My Dr referred me for nutrition classes in March 2013 that started May 1, 2013. The classes lasted 12 weeks. I lost the required weight and had the surgery on September 23, 2013.

    unexplainable weight gain

I do suffer from constipation but i have it under control. Don't have anything else or taking any medication that will trigger holding of water weight. I have a nutritionist that i follow up with. don't know if i should pay her a visit. I'm scheduled to see my surgeon in 2 weeks if by then this does not get better i will for sure address it with him.
  12. My nutritionist told me three meals per say. I'm four weeks out and eat less than one thousand calories per day. Good luck. BigAli
  13. I have an appointment next week to discuss revision of RNY. What do I have to say or do to convince the surgeon I need this revision??! I had my original surgery in 2014. I lost 100lb in about 8 mo. Since the pandemic I have regained about 50 lb. I am so miserable. My BP is elevated again, sleep apnea returned , osteoarthritis acting up. Help me please, someone.
  14. You are not supposed to be bending or lifting anything over 5 pounds. I had a total abdominal hysterectomy on the 9th because I had too many adhesions for her to safely do a vaginal hysterectomy. She did tell me that the adhesions are caused from the 3 laproscopic surgeries I have had in the last year. ETA: I was told that the bending and lifting is because that even though you might be feeling good, your insides have lots of stitches. You are still healing in there. If I even think about bending over or lifting anything, it takes me all of 2 seconds to realize that was a move I don't want to do. I will ache for a hours afterwards.
  15. adding weigts to your weekly workout routine will help tons. not in just the losing (more lean muscle helps with your metabolism overall) but it will help your toning. saggy skin is a side affect of major weight loss, so toned muscles help the skin not look so saggy. I do cardio 6 days a week and some sort of weight training 4 days a week. I just started the p90x and love it!
  16. About 6 weeks ago I had 11cc in my 14 cc band and I could barely eat. I had 1 cc removed and over the last 4 weeks at .5 cc each, I had two fills and I'm back to 11cc and I have no restriction. I don't understand. What happened?
  17. I was sleeved 8 weeks ago. My first 4 weeks were great, then my issues started. I started having nauseous bouts and everything I ate or drank was coming back up. I went to my check up with my surgeon and he said I was extremely dehydrated. He pumped me full of 2 bags of fluids gave me a Vitamin B1 and 12 shot. I was suppose to feel better within a day. I went then weekend with no relief. Surgeon called Monday to check and they sent me to get an upper GI. When the surgeon called with the results he said I had a "tight spot" and I had a choice: 1) doing nothing and hope the spot will stretch on its own (and the stomach above the "spot" doesn't just stretch itself and cause me to have dumping later on) OR 2) have the GI Dr. go in and stretch it some. I have been tolerating food a little better lately and getting my fluids in but still not able to get the daily requirements. My questions are : Has anyone had this issue? If so what did you choose to do? and even if you have not what are your thoughts? I have a consultation with the GI Dr. this coming Monday and will need to make a decision...I DO NOT want it stretched too much in fear the surgery will be a waste. So confused....

    Up and down?

    Scars!

i think everyone is different based on their skin and how it heals. my small scars are barely noticeably at this point because they are so tiny (i'm 6 weeks out from VSG) and my larger scar was placed in my belly button so although it's much more noticeable, it was strategically placed. considering how i'm only 6 weeks out, i'm pretty happy with them thus far. good luck to you!
  20. Today is exactly one month since I had WLS. I don't normally weigh in mid week (I weigh in and do my measurements on Monday mornings) but since it has been a month since my surgery I weighed myself. I started my journey at my all time heaviest 280lbs. During the preop diet I lost 13lbs so on the morning of my surgery I was 267lbs. Today I weighed in at 240.2lbs. I am down 40lbs!!!!!! I'm finding my way through the new diet and feeling more confident by the day!

    WTF

My surgery is scheduled for 3/14. That's tof*ckingmorrow. And I feel like absolute ****. I'm not even talking about all the cheating I did on my clear liquid diet. I'm talking asthma attacks (which manifest for me as coughing fits), low grade fever, and muscle aches that sort of resemble the flu. I don't have the flu; they're not as severe as that, but they're enough to keep me up and writhing. I don't even know. Even if they don't cancel surgery, I'm absolutely petrified of how my recovery will be feeling like this. Double edged sword.
  22. I'm moving from stage 4 soft foods to the final stage 5 of regular food in a week or so.....can't see myself eating much more than I am now, but on stage 5 it's supposed to be 3 high protien meals a day and a couple protien Snacks....worried I won't be able to get in my protien....what did you do? How was your transition from soft to regular food? Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App
  23. Same here. Dense Protein fills me for hours. I don't eat Breakfast. My tummy doesn't like it. I drink a prot shake in the mornings. After about an hour I start pumping in my Water for the day. I can usually get about 2/3 of it in before lunch. Cuz after I start eating for the day, it gets harder to drink. Hope this helps.
  24. I had my revision from band to sleeve on June 4th in Mexico. I started to have an odd feeling where the port used to be I just thought phantom pain no big deal. Then I noticed on the 15th that my incision felt weird, I had a co-worker feel it and I said man I am going to have a lot of scar tissue she couldn't believe how wide the scar tissue felt. It was almost 3 inches wide and went the length of the insicion. RThe next morning I got out of the shower and I had a pinhole in my incision that was gushing blood and wouldn't stop. I was filling up a 2x2 gauze pad in 2 minutes. I went to a clinic still bleeding like a stuck pig and the PA I seen was thrown for a loop. I was bleeding the color of iodine just dark as could be. She called their bariatric surgeon and he wasn't sure what was going on so they sent me to get a CT scan. Where my port had been had pooled with blood and had made a canal to the surface and pushed it's way out. Luckily it pushed it's way out and not in and caused an infection. The PA ended up cutting a larger hole in the incision and pushing all that "old blood" out. I guess when it turns that dark it's old blood, odd. The PA pushed out 10cc's she figured I had already leaked out 4cc, she then packed the hole with what looks like a shoe lace, 2 feet was packed in there. Twice a day 1 pull out 2 inches and cut it off. On weds I go see the surgeon for a check up and to see why this happened. Has anyone else had this happen to them or heard of this happening??
  25. I manage an office of 40 employees and I'm responsible for payroll & day to day operations. Not a lot of activity, just office work. I've heard different stories about returning to work, some as early as 5 days post surgery. I'm getting closer & I'm planning my time off for the surgery (not yet scheduled), I've allowed for 2 full weeks, but what are the chances I'll be able to return sooner?
