  1. Hi. I am new to this forum so please bare with me. I had my sleeve done on 1/5/19 and new this was going to be the greatest thing I’ve ever done in my life other than having my kids. Now I am very emotional, still having horrible gas pains, no BM yet, and wondering if this was the best idea. I’ve done everything that I am suppose to but feel like I am not doing something right. I keep telling myself this too shall pass but not sure I believe it.
  2. Hi all, Just found this forum. So excited to have "friends" going through this with me. Was sleeved Jan. 14th, 2019. Down 22 pounds so far. (Exciting) But stalled this week. Trying not to get depressed about it. Started walking today. Hoping that will jumpstart things again. Would love advice and encouragement.

As of March 7 I’ll be having my surgery I’m doing the sleeve.

    February 2019 Sleevers

I'm curious how you manged those 8 days. I have to be off for 10 days prior and 2-3 months after. I've got fibro, chronic migraines, trigmenial neuralgia as far as Chronic Pain conditions. I take celebrex 2 times daily. My surgeon says my primary and neurologist will need to come up with an adequate pain plan, but without NSAIDS and no opiates things will get rough. What's working for you? I'm so nervous.

  12. I recently had surgery on the 6th of February 2019. But I'm craving fruit really bad. How long will it be before i can have soft foods?
  13. I was given a surgery date 3 months into the 6 month process. They finally submited to insurance on 01/22/19 once I had met all my requirements, and approval came back in good time for my 02/05/19 surgery. These places seem to know what they're doing, don't worry!

    MGB V RNY weight loss

As Jazzy, there's a lot of individualism involved. There is a perspective from some docs that assign a BMI score to the different procedures to indicate their relative "power" - a lapband may be "worth" 10 BMI points, while a VSG or RNY are worth 15-20 points and a DS maybe 25. The MGB would be in that same region as the VSG and RNY. This just indicates relative strength, and also indicates that, given the wide variation in results, that most of that variation owe to individual factors - metabolic quirks, diet and exercise compliance and compatibility, etc. One can also say that the different procedures have something of a "personality", such that any particular individual may do better with one procedure vs. another, even if that procedure is statistically less "powerful". Stated another way, particularly with these "middle ground" procedures like the VSG/MGV/RNY, which are overall fairly close together in performance, individual factors will be more important than which procedure is deemed to be "better" overall. Another factor that I see in this is intent - the MGB was originally developed to be a simpler, faster, less expensive variant of the RNY, that was (hopefully} as good as, or at least almost as good as, the RNY. Its' rationale was primarily to be simpler rather than better performing. Contrast with the duodenal switch, when that was first developed some thirty years ago, it was intended to offer better performance than the default RNY rather than be simpler (which it certainly is not!) So, on that basis, I would not look to the MGB as being "better" than the RNY on weight loss performance, unless there is something about it that really seems to "click" with you.
  15. I am new to this Journey so i cannot speak from experience. I am not sure what exactly you are eating but try replacing those items that are veering you off the path with something else. If its the sweet thing at the store.. get something else sweet at the store like fruit in a cup or something. If its the after dinner snack along with the kids, start making them SF Jello with Fat Free cool whip. Go back to the alternatives. Instead of Pizza, do the cauli crust Pizza.. Sub one thing at a time so you dont feel like you are cheating yourself.. but make the changes before that 10 pounds turns to 20.. etc. Good Luck!
  16. I was sleeved 1/15/19 and after I was cleared I first used the ScarAway Strips, then ScarAway gel and now Mederma, but my scars dont seen to be getting any lighter. Has these products worked for anyone? Has anyone found something else that works better?

    ❤ FEBRUARY 2019 CHALLENGE ❤

DAY 10 Got up early to get my exercise in. Also gives me alone time to think. Having brunch today with my sister, who thinks I've lost enough weight. This is the thin sister, who "encourages" you to eat. I'm planning ahead on what to eat and say to her. Another quote I'm fond of: "Be yourself. Everyone else is already taken." By Oscar Wilde.
  19. I'm brand new here and new to the world of wls in general. I'm reading a lot of posts from other people here and everyone seems so young. I'm 50. For most of my adult life I've been overweight. Not "omg I can't believe the size of her" overweight. But, hovering around the 190 mark since my late 20s. In my early 20s I weighed 110 and I loved it. Everything about it. The shopping, the dating, the attention. But eventually I settled down and it seemed like one minute later I was up to 165. I wasn't ever able to lose it again. And my 30s and 40s were a battle to just stay under 200 I'm only 5'3" I also had the biggest boobs that were ever naturally created. 10 years ago I had them reduced. It changed my entire outlook. I had the confidence of my 20's again. I also lost some weight and felt amazing. Then I started getting diagnosed with all these ailments. High bp.… thyroid problems, I've been on migraine meds forever.... My weight won't budge. Only low low carb or Jenny craig works. I can't afford Jenny indefinitely. And I stall at the 20 lb. mark. And I need some carbs...I end up eating to much meat because I'm hungry and I know I can eat it and not gain weight on the low, low carb. I can't do that anymore. I think I could do it the right way with this surgery. I am up to 223lbs. I hate what I've turned into. And the fact that most of the time I've really been trying to lose. I know this is only a tool. It will help me to not be hungry all the time (HOPEFULLY) I will have support. I will have to learn to eat again. I think this is the only thing that will get me down to a reasonable weight and help me stay there. I mostly want to be healthy and feel good about me again. I have a couple of major worries. One is when people say you won't ever enjoy eating again. Food will just be fuel. That makes me sad. I work in the music industry. So I go out a lot. I don't drink at all. I don't do any rec. drugs. getting a big Caesar salad w some croutons in it was my idea of partying. But everything in it's time. I just hope I don't chicken (Yes I like chicken in my Caesar Salad) out. Hope this wasn't too long!

    Mini Gastric Bypass

FYI - I’m 5’8” and my weight range is 121-126. I do not plan on having my intestinal bypass lengthened. My revision surgeon is also not overly concerned with my weight. Aside from my reflux issues, my health is great in every other measure, and being lighter has most especially improved my arthritis pain. I had GI surgery in July 2018 to remove a LINX device that had migrated at the GE junction, repaired a hiatal hernia, and had a Nissen Fundiplication as there was a large fundus left. I am now awaiting results from an EGD endoscopy in Jan 2019 to see if I still have Barrett’s Esophagus and bile reflux, and determine if my gastric bypass loop (aka MGB) should be converted to an RNY.

    Food Before and After Photos

Poblano peppers (massage olive oil on them first and cut them in halves)-roast for 10 minutes on 400*. Use jerk seasoning and jerk marinade when you cook your chicken. Saute some red onions and add them to the chicken. Also dice some pineapple and add it as well. Once everything is complete stuff your pepper and add your favorite cheese or not. I also added some pickled red onions on top and then baked it for an additional 5 minutes. You can pickle the onions by just adding some lime juice to a bowl and let them sit with an occasional stir for about 10 minutes. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app
  24. This is the same for me. I am bone on bone in my right knee. The left knee isn't too far behind. I am currently 268lbs at 5'5" The knee has slowed my down a lot. I have gotten orthovisc injections in my knee which help temporarily but I know losing weight is going to help a great deal. I go in for surgery 3/18/19.

nutritionist FINALLY agreed to see me.

I had my surgery through a university hospital team that does an incredible amount of these surgeries a month. Pre-op patients are placed into groups of about 10-15 for monthly classes, during my 6 months pre medically supervised nutritional counseling, we individually saw the physician then we went to lecture like classes with homework to boot. Now that I am post op my post op appointment consists of seeing my physician for the medical visit, then sitting through a nutrition group with the nutritionist and about 6-10 post-op patients (who are within the same few days of surgery) discussing diet. It is very interactive and all questions are discussed. I happen to like this group setting, feels very supportive with people going through the same thing that I am. However no one ever looks at my food logs or gets into depth of my day to day eating habits. The only one who questions me about that is the physician himself and it's basically him asking me how much liquids and protein I'm taking in. i guess it differs from offices, the way they approach after care. Hope this helps, just adding to the discussion to help show, post op nutrition counseling can vary a lot. Your office however should be ashamed of the way they have cast you aside like that. Hope it gets better for you.
