  1. I will send you a prayer on the 1st! I think everyone has a some fear of the anesthesia... even though it is pretty much an irrational fear. Once you get past the first week or two post op, you will not regret this! I am much happier with the sleeve than I ever was with the band. Did you already have the band removed, or are they doing the revision at the same time?
  2. Hello all! So on Tues morning, 12/1, I go in for my revision. I'm very nervous and a bit scared. I'm so nervous of failing again, but most of all scared of not waking from the surgery. Not sure why, but I think having a nearly 1yr old now makes things a bit more frightful. Any words of encouragement or success stories are welcomed!

    Ice cream?

I've had both bypass (12-4-14) and sleeve (03-16-15). Cause I'm that lucky. I have a sleeve now. I'm confused. You had bypass first, and then the sleeve? Did the reverse the bypass? I didn’t know you could do a bypass to sleeve revision.

    Surgery done and dusted ????

I'm getting revision don end of December. I hear the pain is worse than regular bypass because of scar tissue. Is this the case?
  5. Revised this past Monday from lap band (2007). Doing well, more pain from them digging g at the port due to scaring, but overall okay. Hopefully the time will pass fast for your surgery date.

    Surgery done and dusted ????

Congrats....I was revised on Monday, got out on Wednesday. Doing well but the pain where the port was is still really sore. Let's keep in touch...helps having support.

    Phentermine after gastric sleeve

You are going to get a lot of negative feedback about weight loss medication here. I don't know the specifics about phentmerine but my surgeons office was very clear from the start that studies are showing that some medications are extremely useful in long-term maintenance and even achieving goal for some wls patients. There does come a time that it becomes harder and harder to maintain your goal as your body fights to regain weight. Also as a revision patient my nutritionist said it might be harder to reach goal. There seems to be a symbiotic relationship between wls and some medications and that the medications are more effective. I have been losing steadily, but if I stopped losing I wouldn't hesitate to do anything possible to avoid regain. I wouldn't use meds to speed up my loss as long as I am moving downwards.
  8. Lap band 2010, problems from beginning. Finally had it removed and revised to rny on 10/26. Was a very difficult surgery and so far has been a tough recovery for me. I've kept a daily journal to remind me of this journey. I'm hoping someday I can look back without pain and be happy that I've healed and been successful. Even more so, I hope I can get over the anger I have for the Dr. that did the lap band then left me swinging in the breeze with no help. But anyway, each day gets better and some heal faster than others, so good luck and keep a journal and keep us all posted!
  9. I just downloaded the Baritastic app (thank you for suggesting it) - it is really great because it understands our needs. I am getting ready to have a revision of my sleeve in January (because I have had terrible GERD) and want to really do it right this time. This app has timers for time to take to eat and time in between meals and drinking, trackers, a journal, you can link your fitbit, it has information about the different surgeries, links to resources, recipes, and a link to forums. And it is free!
  10. @DeezJeanz Dee Dee, is it too late to request the RNY? I've read a lot of people with sleeve end up changing to RNY as a revision because of reflux with the sleeve - it would be a big concern, and is one of the reasons I chose RNY even though the sleeve would have made more sense with my current starting weight etc... Thoughts? Kirsten
  11. That is not a Kaiser rule. If someone there said it is a rule, then that is just that particular location. Kaiser does band revisions on a weekly basis. I know two people who had it done last month at Kaiser (I met them in the Kaiser Options program) and my revision surgery is scheduled for December 7th. It will be done in one surgery.
  12. I have developed a nasty case of GERD due to gastric band revision related complications and I get that feeling on occasion. It happens too close after meals so I know that it's just acid rising into my esophagus. My solution is to take Nexium 20 mg once in the morning and evening. Secondly, when I feel that way, I get a mug of hot Water, throw in a slice of lemon and drink it. It makes me feel instantly better. Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk

    Before and After Pics

What surgery did you have? What complications, may I ask? P.S. your arms are Amazing! Thanks for the compliment on my arms...it's funny though, I think that's my worst feature, lots of excess skin...I think that might have just been great photography! Lol! Anyways my complications are almost too many to list: large hematoma with drain tube one week after sleeve surgery, severe reflux and GERD, 3 strictures with dilations, 2 hiatal hernias needing surgery, a myelotomy surgery, revision to bypass surgery, central line put in for TPN, then finally 2 weeks ago a jejunostomy feeding tube put in for nutrition. Whew! Nails by Niki - thats unreal!! Was this or majority of all your complications due to the sleeve surgery? Im so sorry youve had so many different things happening to you.
  14. I too am having revision end of December. Super excited but scared. I swore I would never have gastric bypass and now here I am

Scared with a lot to think about

I would see a different surgeon. My surgeon gave me a MUCH lower figure. I would certainly not have a revision with a surgeon who has only done half a dozen.

    Recovery + Time Off Work

I had my surgery 10/21 and returned to work 11/16. I had sleeve to RNY revision with hernia repair. I couldn't have gone back in two weeks like some people do. I was still in so much discomfort. I have a desk job. I went back last week still in some discomfort but more than that I was exhausted in bed the first day back to work by 7 pm. I get up at 4:15am. I am just now starting to feel like my normal self and I am 5 weeks post op today.
  17. Hi all. I am 3 1/2 months post op. I revised from Lapband to Gastric Bypass. I can't call my Surgeon's office until Monday, but was hoping someone may be able to relate. For the past couple of days whenever I eat solids I am getting a little bit of pain and discomfort in my pouch area. This is a new thing and sort came from out of the blue. Any ideas what it might be? Jen

    REGRETS

I wanted to give an update on here about my personal experience with band to sleeve revision. I have been absent from the site because I have been taken ill by a complication related to the revision surgery. First 2 weeks, I was fine. Not long after I started to develop serious stomach aches, especially at nights. My situation only became worse from then. I found myself very averse to eating food and I would have gagging and wretching spells during the day but mostly early morning and late night. Obviously I became very concerned and went to see my surgeon. I had a gastography done which came back clear. I was treated for h.pylori and my symptoms did not get better. At a certain point I was so dehydrated and malnourished that I was given IV at the hospital. My bp was 80/60. So my doctor decided to do endoscopy. The endoscopy revealed as did the gastography that my sleeve was completely healed and in great condition. No ulcers, no stricture or stenosis, no leaks. The sleeve part of the surgery was a success So what has been the cause of all my woes? It turns out as the endoscopy showed that I have GERD as a result of the gastric band removal. Somehow the band created a wider opening at the end of my esophagus causing acid to make its way up and down. Added to that it spasms and contracts causing my stomach upsets. I am now taking Nexium and Zofran to control these problems. According to my doctor, I should be back to normal in 3 months but all these problems are caused by the left overs of the band. P.S. sorry if some of the details seem vague, my surgeon and surgery were done in the Middle East so a lot of the terminology I had to translate from Arabic. Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk

Scared with a lot to think about

4 years ago risk of leaks or other serious complications was thought to be about 1-2% for virgin sleever and about twice that for revision. My surgeon said these were estimated but certainly in the single digit risk. Have you checked medline or any other sources of data on complication rates? I don't believe these 20% plus figures....if that were the case this forum would be flooded with the stories.
  21. I had my band to sleeve revision surgery on Friday, November 20th and have been nauseous ever since then. Water tastes like sewage and the Protein shakes taste fine, but every sip still causes me to feel sick. I take the anti-nausea pills, but they aren't helping much. Is it normal to feel constant nausea 5 days after surgery? If so, when does it normally subside?

    November Sleevers

I had a revision done on the 16th from the band to the sleeve. So far I'm very happy with it. Wish I had done it sooner. Age 41 HT - 5'6 HW - 270 SW - 243 CW - 226 I'm having trouble getting all my Protein in but continue to sip away. I can't wait to get under 200, I haven't seen that number in at least 15yrs. I went to happy hour the other day with some friends. They don't know about my surgery, and it dawned on me how much food plays a part in my life. They all kept offering me food and wondering why I wasn't drinking. Can't I be on a diet people, why is everything all about socializing with food and drink? It's frustrating.

    VSG to DS

Hi all! I had the sleeve done Jan 2013, lost 150lbs and then gained back around 60 of them. Talked to my surgeon and we agreed that my best option at this point would be to revise to the duodenal switch. I AM super excited about having another second chance but I'm terrified aboutt failing again. I also am more worried about recovery time because my boss if acting very reluctant to give me a lot of time off(I'll only have 9 months in so I'm not eligible for FMLA). I'm really hoping to only need two weeks off but I know I needed a lot more than that the first time around. Any advise or stories about recovery? I just want to be optimistic while still being realistic. Thanks!

    Frustrated...pain and acid reflux

I'm with PINKGIRL, you probably will revise or (like I did) have the band removed. It's been a year for me and I still need to revise to another surgery. I can so relate to drowning during sleep with acid reflux and having to sit up a while. I was afraid to go back to sleep, knowing I had to go to work in the morning...
  25. Hello! In two weeks I am getting my lap band removed due to my dilated esophagus. It's literally double the size The surgeon told me no one in that office will do a sleeve conversion until after a year of healing. Is that a true case for ALL Kaiser hospitals? I've read some people get a conversion only after 3 - 6 months of healing and don't know if this is just a Kaiser rule. Thank you.
