Well, duh! Meal sizes
Djmohr replied to Briardlady's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Honestly I boost mine in the morning with 1 premier Protein shake. It has 30 grams of protein and I need to get 70 per day. This is my breakfast as I cannot eat eggs and yogurt is a slider food for me. I them try to balance out the remainder of my protein between lunch and dinner as well as my Snacks. I have a pretty heavy restriction still so I have to snack to get all my protein in even with the shake. I track absolutely everything in myfitnesspal. It tells me exactly where I am and if I need to make any adjustments as the day goes. I think I have been so successful because of tracking. -
@jhammer2 It's a slippery slope, so just say "No" to cheat days! Instead, find alternatives to the foods you want to "cheat" with and you'll have a Win/Win situation. Here's one example ... I love pizza and life without it just seemed like it would be dreadful. Instead, I searched and researched and found a recipe that I tweaked to my own taste and voila - I get to eat pizza! It's bariatric friendly of course (the crust is made out of ground chicken breast) but it tastes super delicious. I now but the 3 lb. container of Perdue ground chicken breast so I can make 19 individual crusts at one time. They freeze beautifully and then I can have pizza within minutes. The cost, breaks down to about 60 cents per crust. I have other recipes for quiche, cheese cracker crisps, pudding and frozen yogurt bars. Let me know if you'd like any of them and I'll gladly share.

Hi all! Newly bypassed here... struggling with protein
Renee2015 replied to phatfatgirl's topic in Food and Nutrition
I drink those every morning and my nut supports this! It is a good feeling to know that over half of your protein is already met! Also Protein 02 is water that has 15 grams of protein and Greek yogurt is good as well, it usually has 12-15 grams of protein per container. I use Dannon Greek, it's only 80 calories. FairLife is milk with protein in it. -
Protein 02 is water that has 15 grams of protein. I also eat Dannon Greek yogurt that is 12 grams of protein and only 80 calories. Their is also milk made by Fair Life that has protein in it. You can also purchase Whey protein shots from Walmart or bariactric pal that will give you 42 grams of protein and are only 3.8 ounces. They taste better cold!

I am 7 months out and can pretty much eat anything without being hurt. I choose not to eat Pasta or bread. If I order a sandwich, I remove the bread. I can still eat so little and the bread has no nutrition. I do eat carbs. I have oatmeal for Breakfast and Greek yogurt for Snacks. I eat cheese and I even had dressing on Thanksgiving. The only thing I really "miss" is soda. The desire for them is getting better but a part of me misses them. It's not so much that I can't have something, it is that I am choosing something better for me instead.

Proper Meal size at 3 weeks
jhclikesshopping@gmail.com replied to thenewandbestme's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi - sorry you feel unprepared. I can help you - I checked back to my food journals. At three weeks post surgery I was onto soft foods at this point. Amount - I was eating about 1/4 cup of food or 2 oz if I was weighing out my food. This was usually 3/4 of a scrambled egg, 2 oz of tuna (or 1 1/2 oz tuna and 1/2 oz of avocado) or 1/4 of Soup (but I only ate the contents - not the broth). Drank broth first then eat the food part later (after waiting about 15 minutes). If I was eating yogurt, I could never finish the cup container. I would usually do 1/3 - 1/2 at a time of yogurt. When I was eating right after surgery - you want to make sure you eat or drink - NEVER At the same time. Does not feel right. this is also when you need to learn what "full" feels like. . -
Don't understand why you're lost, 3 meals @ 20 grams of Protein plus 2 protein Snacks in day add up to 80 plus. Everyone is different on recommended volume after surgery. I was told 1/2 cup to start of meat, 1/2 a cup of tuna is over 20g of protein. Yogurt is also very high for the snack. Everyone is different. I just have a hard time believing that the 5' tall woman and 6'7" guy need the same amount of protein.

October List of Surgery's
Mogwaicat replied to 60&goin4it's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My nut doesn't approve of dry cereals/granola this early out, not until I'm at least at 4mo so Kashi's out. Ketosis, other than the breath/mouth taste issue, doesn't really bother me. One of my previous diet 'attempts' was Keto, so I spent five months in ketosis...lost 30lbs, gained 35 when life happened and made things difficult. I'm wondering if the nausea/light-headedness is mostly just not eating enough. I can only get 1/4-1/2 cup at a time, depending on what it is, and I struggle to eat three times a day because of the nausea/lack of hunger. I've tried to have a string cheese or a light babybel when I can, to fill in. I'm having more 'good' days than bad this week, so hopefully this phase was just temporary. I might manage four meals today! Breakfast was a chicken sausage made with roasted garlic and gruyere. 14gms protein for one, though I could only manage half of it. I'll have the other half later. Syntrax nectar is a no-go. Three sips, waited ten minutes, and had a horrible heavy feeling in my stomach and moderate nausea to the point where I went and laid down for a while. I give up, my body has apparently declared that whey protein isolate is somehow poisonous. No issues at all with yogurt or cheeses, so who knows... I have my six week appointment coming up, if the trend of better days doesn't keep up I might ask for something for the nausea or see if they have any ideas why it's so persistent. -
It is very normal to only get in that amount of calories. The Protein is what is most important. I was fortunate that I could drink protein shakes, Premier, I still drink one every AM, and I am almost 4 months out. 30gms per shake. Have you tried the protein powders, I like Bariatric Advantage, 27gms protein, and I add blueberries, or banana, flavored yogurt, fat free milk of any kind, etc. Some people really like the unjury drinks, 40gms of protein per serving. I was fortunate to get in my protein from the first week, and I think it will make a difference in how well you heal and how you feel. Try whatever you can to meet the 70-80gms of protein a day, at least that was the requirement for me in my program. I am now up to 100-120gms a day. Good luck

I make up a batch of protein Greek yogurt at the beginning of the week and have some each evening, usually with a tablespoon or two of low-sugar granola or crushed nuts.

I don't snack all of the time, but when I am really feeling the hunger these are my go to snacks: Fresh fruit, a cheese stick, small protein shake or smoothie, an egg, yogurt... Basically anything light that doesn't have very high calories. My goal is to not get full, but just eat enough to curb the hunger.

A piece of fresh fruit, yogurt, cheese sticks, cottage cheese, cheese (can you tell I like cheese), peanut butter, pudding, protein shake, and similar.

Tapas! My husband and I love restaurants that have Protein based tapas and we share. Usually we still have leftovers! If tapas are not something on the menu, I will look close at Soups and salads. Breakfast is the worst for me because I cannot eat eggs. You can usually find a yogurt parfait but they can be dangerous because restaurants like to add very sugary fruit to them. If I cannot find anything for breakfast I will go for a plain crepe with sf syrup and bacon or sausage. There is very little flour in a crepe and for some reason I can tolerate all the egg in one.

How much can you eat at one meal at 2 months after RNY
Threetimesacharm replied to 60&goin4it's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I am just over 12 weeks out. It depends on what I am eating and what time of day. Breakfast is one egg and 1/4 cup of tuna and I can eat half then 1 hour later the other half. Lunch I can have 1/2 cup yogurt with protein powder and I am comfortably full. Dinner is normally 3.5 ounces of protein(chicken, fish) and about 2 tablespoons of veggies. No way could I do one cup of anything right now not even creamy soup! -
What’s Your Approach to Holiday Weight Loss?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thanksgiving was my first real "food-focused" holiday so I was able to start putting into practice what I planned. I did this for the 4th of July and other celebrations, too. Protein first, recording my food, and meeting protein and Fluid goals are non-negotiable. After that I didn't completely restrict my eating. I ate turkey. I had small portions of things I really love. I had a tablespoon each of dressing, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes. I even had a small slice of pumpkin pie. I ate slowly and the enjoyed the conversation. The day after I even had a 'Smore around the fire pit. That was great because I hadn't had one in years because I was "dieting". Even indulging, my calories stayed pretty low because I had Premier Protein, Greek yogurt and cheese sticks on hand. -
What to do about extended release capsule medications?
FocusOnMeNow replied to talking mountain's topic in The Lounge
@@talking mountain - I also took effexor ER capsules. I'm not sure which surgery you had. I had the sleeve. I opened the capsule and poured it into my medicine cup shot glass full of vitamin water zero and shot it down the hatch. I would have to take about 2 more shots of vitamin water to get all the little pellets down. It was far from ideal but I had been taking it for years so I think I had a decent level in my system when I started. Not sure if you are pre or post op but I started taking mine right in the hospital. One thing to be aware of though is that one of the side effects of effexor and one of the reasons they put it in a capsule to begin with was because of nausea as a side effect. So I always took the effexor at least 20 minutes after my zofran (anti nausea med) and preferably after I had some protein shake, yogurt or other to coat my stomach. After about 8-9 weeks post op I took everything in its original form (capsule in the case of effexor). I stayed on the zofran for about a month. Once I started mushy foods, I just took it after I ate my cottage cheese breakfast. I hope this helps. -

Shakes: liquid or puree?
Kindle replied to JourneyInside's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's not about nutritional value or calories....soda and fruit juice and koolaid have loads of calories but they are definitely liquid. It's about physical state and how it passes through your sleeve. My surgeon said if I can drink it through a straw it is a liquid. For example, drinkable yogurt like Siggis or kefir were liquids but Greek yogurt was a puree. Protein shakes are liquids, and you will actually absorb the protein better if you drink them slowly throughout the day. -
Meal ideas
Threetimesacharm replied to jenislosingit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
During the pureed stage you should be having soft foods, be careful of ground meats or any meats even though you can puree them they can be hard to digest. Stick with canned meats, soft fishes, tuna, cottage cheese, scrambled eggs(love eggs eat one very day!). yogurt and of course your protein drink. What I have been having now everyday for lunch is 1/2 cup yogurt with a scoop of protein powder, delicious! Careful trying to consume veggies at this point as you probably are still trying to fit in all of your protien which at this stage is the most important. FYI: ricotta is not very high in protein per serving size I would substitute cottage cheese. -
I also had surgery 11/18/15 and my list says week 1 & 2 liquids & work your way to yogurt & oatmeal. Week 3 & 4 eggs, tuna, soft flaky fish, mashed & gravey, soft veggies & other software foods. Week 5, have 3 full meals & 2 Protein Snacks. But I'm noticing some ppl eating soft foods like eggs week 2 instead of wk 3.

I was assigned clear fluids for the first 4 days. On day 5 (Monday) I can go to full liquids including cream soups, v8, yogurts and pudding.

Stray Observations a Few Days Out...
NewLifeFinny replied to NewLifeFinny's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Same here! Two weeks out and feeling pretty much normal (besides being extra sleepy and missing food. :/) When do you start "normal" foods? I have another week of full liquids left. Before surgery I never appreciated the great variety of light Yoplait yogurt flavors lol.
