    March 2019 group?

I’m set for March 4th! Would love to be added to the Gastric Bypass March 2019 group, but I’m new on here and not sure how to do it.

    Goal Weight

Depending on your frame size 175 is likely doable, although may not be attainable without plastics I’m not sure. We are the same height. I would be thrilled to be 175 too. I set my goal for 185, I’m at 191 right now and my surgeon thinks I likely could lose another 10-15 pounds but have 7-10 pounds of excess skin spread throughout my body too. I hear a lot of “you are too skinny now” and things like that, but just remember most people are used to seeing us heavy and have trouble adjusting to seeing us at normal weights. Although the loss slows down after a year, it’s definitely possible to keep going. I just keep re evaluating every ten pounds because it takes a long time to lose that now. ‘Even If you decide to maintain at 225, or 200, you would be so much healthier and feel so much better than where you started! You are definitely a success now wherever you decide to set your goal!
  3. If you’re looking for a low-cost option without having to travel outside of the U.S., you should definitely check out Blossom Bariatrics out of Las Vegas. I was sleeved there on 1/24/19 and they were very thorough. The whole process was very smooth.

    February 2019 Sleevers?

I had my Surgery 1/21/19. I had anxiety like everyone else. It went smooth. My throat hurt a little after but it went away in a week. 3 weeks and 1 day out I am 28 LBS down. I feel great. My biggest fear was nausea and vomiting. Nothing. No complications at all. I have progressed to soft diet Eggs, thin deli meat etc without an issue. Just stick to the program. Take your time eating. And exercise!! Treadmill, Stationary bike. It will help. Good luck. You will do great!!

    Hypothyroid Sleevers?

Hello, I have hypothyroid post partial thyroidectomy. I primarily got this surgery to shock my body because it is very hard to loose weight when you have a low thyroid in my opinion. I did find the beginning to be slow and you are still swollen keep in mind. I lost between 2-10 lb per week for the first 6 months. It flew off the next 1.5 years and I hit many many stalls for 2-6 weeks long during that time. Stick to your program and you will see results catch up.
  6. So today I had my 1st dr visit with my surgeon. I attended the seminar on 01/22/19 so this actually my second visit. Today I weighed in @ 257lbs, 39.1 BMI and I’m 5’8. So my insurance requires a 3 month diet program which includes, 3 dr visits, 1 Psych eval and 1 dietician visit. I have already had my upper GI and labs are done. Today the dr. told me everything was fine with my labs. I do have low vitamin D and low B12 , which I was advice to start taking them. I’m also required to have a sleep study and urine test ( I’m a smoker) before surgery. Oh I forgot to mention that I selected to have VSG, which my dr. agrees it’s the best for me. I’m nervous and anxious not Scared, but my support team is small. My mom thinks I can do it without surgery, so that has stopped me from telling others like my father and my brother. My husband says he ❤️’s me the way I am but he supports me 100%. It’s his insurance that’s actually paying for everything. I just wanted to share my story as I began to change my life to get healthy ( High Blood Pressure , pre Diabetic). I’m 44 years with 4 kids and my goal is to live a long healthy life , and I think I’m making the best decision for me.
  7. Yes, I think you'll be fine to do housework while recovering, although be careful lifting those laundry baskets, nothing more than 10 pounds until six weeks post-op. But do be kind to yourself and try to rest as you'll have just undergone a major operation.
  8. Hey guys, I'm at the 10 month mark and just got my third round of blood tests for vitamins done. Consistently, I am low in vitamin D3, which I have a hard time understanding. After it came up low last time (about 3 months ago) they gave me a prescription for 50,000UI to take for 12 days, and ever since then I've been taking three 5,000ui caplets EVERY DAY.... according to the bottle, one 5k caplet is 1250% of daily requirements, so I'm taking 3750% of my daily requirement every day! Seems like overkill. But my blood test showed my D3 was LOWER than it was 3 months ago. NOTE: I live in San Diego, so even though it's winter, I get more sun than most. I'm asking the question here because the bariatric department for my medical plan mostly deals with sleeve and bypass, and doesn't have much experience with DS, SADis or SIPS, so they can't really tell me if this is normal or weird or what. They're response is to have me do another round of the 50,000 ui prescription. So, do any of you DS'ers have any knowledge around D3 deficiency? Is this a common thing? or is this just specific to me?

Has surgery 10 days ago, I was so excited Now Iam so depressed

I was sleeved 1/16/19 and the first 10 days were BRUTAL for me emotionally. I'm typically a really stoic, stereotypical English woman, and I cried more in those 10 days than I have in the last 10 years! It does get better and you do get through that part of it. From the research I did it just seems like what happens in the early days when you have this surgery. My amazing surgeon told me that people typically get really angry, or really sad shortly after surgery. Hang in there!

    January 2019 sleevers

Hi everyone, I'm new to the Bariatric Pal community, but wanted to jump on this thread as I was sleeved 1/16/19 and would love to share my journey with others!
  12. If you're doing the sleeve and your work isn't super exertion like construction work or something, I'd say 2 weeks. You'll feel better right away, maybe a little tired, and you can't lift more than 10 pounds for 6 weeks, but otherwise you can probably return to work within 2 weeks.

    First 2 weeks

Okay so I was sleeved on 2-6-19. I’m 5’6”, and when I started I weighed 259. I was basically in “maintenance” for 6 months because I couldn’t drop under my 40% BMI, but I ended up losing about 10 pounds and barely qualifying by the skin of my teeth (I also might have had my cell phone and wallet in my pants pocket when I was weighed prior to surgery class). I was pretty gung-ho (zero food funerals) and lost about 6 pounds in the 2 weeks prior to surgery, and my first morning after surgery I was upset when they weighed me and I was up 2 pounds from the day before. Understandable,  the nurse (also a sleever) told me. She said , “ I promise you’ll drop 1-1.5 pounds/day for the next 2 weeks. “ Well I was afraid to get on the scale til yesterday (4 days post sleeve) and was completely flabbergasted to see a 10.4 pound drop! Then I got on the scale this morning to see another 2.6 pound drop. How is it possible that I lost 13 pounds in  5 days? Since surgery I’ve gone from 244.2 to 231.0 By tomorrow I’m thinking I might be in the 220’s for the first time in 4 years. Anyone else have crazy numbers like this and how much longer can I expect this?
  16. I did the revision of band to bypass on 1/18/19 & so far I’m down 30lbs.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Hi, Joe. I will turn 60 in May and am having my surgery on March 4. As I've said before, I have lost and gained the same 60 pounds many times over the past 30 years. My primary care doctor told me I likely had about 10 to 12 more years before dying of a massive stroke or heart attack and suggested I get a gastric bypass. I've been thinking about it for years, but that spurred me into action! We should compare notes after surgery. As men of a certain age, we will likely have similar experiences and encounter issues that some of the young ones might not. What are your starting weight and goal weight, if you don't mind my asking?

6 month diet program - Anthem

I have Anthem BCBS, too. I have been approved for surgery and slso had the 6 month physician supervised diet program. One month I gained like 10 lbs and lost it the following month. I still got approved, so don't worry, but don't gain 5 lbs every month!! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    January surgeries?!

I have been eating 1-2 bites when introducing new foods to see if that dreaded nausea is starting. I then wait 10 minutes before the next bite, hoping I can tell if it’s gonna make me sick

    It was NOT gas pain.

Wishing you a fast recovery. I went thru almost the same as you. After a couple of days of having the pain I drove my self to ER (pain and all) the Dr. in ER saw me that bad that she took me in right away and started pain killers, ultrasound, X-ray, and Ct scan. And found the PVT in the CT scan. I was hospitalized for 2 days and put on blood thinners it has helped. But now I have a menstrual cycle that is heavy and going on 4 weeks. Seeing my doctor this week and hematologists. Sleeve doctor says abnormal cycles are regular after surgery but the medicine they gave me also says to be cautious of abnormal cycles. And like you presurgery no health problems. My husband is hating this surgery. I’m just hopeful that I won’t have any other complications. So I won’t regret it. Weight loss wise I’ve lost about 22 lbs. I got surgery 1/7/19. And I think I’m ready for exercise but with this heavy menstrual idk. Best of luck to you.

    ❤ FEBRUARY 2019 CHALLENGE ❤

Hey all. I haven’t checked in in a while though I’ve been creeping. Struggling with the no junk challenge. I seem to have issues with the whole NO thing. I would say I make 80% solidly good choices. 10% borderline. And 10% just like “what is this mess you are putting in your mouth?” Will keep on trucking. Every meal is a new chance. Doing well on the exercise challenge. Yesterday my kids did the name challenge with me. The five year olds push ups were hilarious. Went to the gym today and did a 30 min strength/cardio circuit. Here’s a combo no makeup selfie and three people I love love love. My three sons. ❤️❤️❤️
  24. Kay, I think we are all different--so the answer changes a lot based on where you are starting from. If you're are 30 years old, had a BMI below 40 on the day of surgery and are otherwise healthy, you'll be ready to hit the gym for light to moderate cardio 2-3 weeks after surgery. I am 45 and I had a BMI of 35 on the day of surgery. I as at the gym a week after surgery, walking on the treadmill and hitting the elliptical machine every day (It's too cold where I live to walk outside--so this was my substitute). Two to three weeks post-op I started taking spin classes, but not pushing myself to the max. I just worked on getting myself back into the groove. At my one month post-op consult, my surgeon gave me the all clear to weight train and do any other physical activity. The next day, I started weight training and hitting the cardio with high intensity. I am now almost 8 weeks post-op and I am working out around 2-2.5 hours a day, six days a week. Typically, I am doing 45-1 hour of cardio (spin classes 4x a week and more moderate intensity cardio the other three days), 45 minutes of weight training 6 days a week (also varying in intensity and type) and another 10 minutes for abs which I do 5 times a week. FYI, if you're eager to hit the gym after surgery, just understand that you may lose weight a little slower than you would if you just dieted alone. On the other hand, you will significantly improve your body composition by hitting the gym because you'll help maintain your muscle tissue so more of the weight that you lose will come from fat. I knew this before I started working out, but I want to have a good physique not just be thin and soft.
