    Who's Getting Banded in July?

YIPPEE! My band date is July 16th. I just purchaseed my pre-op liquid diet from Bariatric Advantage. I hope it tastes good. I start on it July 2nd. I am ready for this new journey!
  5. I was banded in October of 2008 and had the band let down in November of 2010. I am finally ready to try it again but it does seem like the Bariatric centers are pushing the bypass more now. I got tired of throwing up all the time. Foods that were band friendly seemed to turn against me and not be band friendly. I am ready to measure foods, chew much slower and try this again.

Renewedhope is Headed for the Flatlands

Renewed: I have alot of itching as well and have a difficult time sleeping. I take half a dose of bendyral at night at it helps the itching and the sleeping. I was getting really weepy and found that if I can get a good nights sleep, I don't feel like crying as much. Anyway, that's my tip for the day!

Renewedhope is Headed for the Flatlands

Happy Bandiversary Renewed!!! I commented on the other thread, but I think it's worth mentioning again. You look FANTASTIC!!! You really do inspire me. I'm sending up prayers for you.
  8. All these ideas are good. But wow, I buy Bariatric Advantage meal replacements in a bag and only pay $60 a bag. I order it straight from them. I generally add frozen blueberries and cinnamon and it comes out like a brilliant blue cinnamon streusel ice cream. I guess I will get tired of it but haven't yet. It is still pricey but I figure it really isn't bad, with the things I add it works out to about $2 a serving, which is a meal. I use the greek yogurts as they have so much protein, but I love yogurt and the Greek is so much more 'yogurty'. You could add one to your shake mixes to change the flavor some. I started doing that because I tried to go vegetarian and my hair started falling out.

    Muscle Milk

Just remember the body can process no more than 30 grams of protein at one time and anything over that will be stored as fat (from everything I have read). The Bariatric surgeons in our program recommend low fat low sugar low carb less than 15 carb gms per shake.300 calories is a lot unless it is a food replacement.
  10. Hey there Eileen, glad your here  I don't know those to doc's sorry. My doc was from Hackensack Medical University... He's the head of bariatric surgery there. Dr. Garth Ballantyne. So far so good and I like him very much. I don't know if he takes Medicare....you'd have to call their office. Here's the link to his website and the phone # is there some where. http://www.lapsurgery.com/index.htm GOOD LUCK !!! Point Pleasant is the only beach I go to in the summer.... Love Jenkins !!!

    No one in Nov?

Stranger138: I found it all a clever (or cruel) irony that I went to a bariatric surgeon and was put on a diet. LOL! What the heck??? The logical-thinking individual in me can totally see what their reasoning is. It's all very smart and wise to get your brain conditioned to the notion of smaller amounts, chewing longer, etc. blah, blah, blah. However, the food adoring, chip-munching, coffee-drinking, compulsive-overeater in me looked them square in the eye and said, "You have GOT to be kidding me???" All I have to say to your splurge is "Tomorrow is a new day, sister!!" You know, I think the fact that we've had ANY bit of success on our pre-op diets is AWESOME!
  12. Renewed, congrats on getting your drains out. I go back to the Dr tomorrow and am hoping to get at least 1 out. I will be glad when I can take a real shower. This staying in bed crap sure sucks and I don't think I prepared myself mentaly for complictions. But I am dealing with it, as I know I am going to look smoking when it's all said and done. chat later
  13. WOWZA you look wonderful Renewed!!!!

Renewedhope is Headed for the Flatlands

YAY, you're home!! Me and DS have been at his cousins fishing birthday party since lunch. I was going to give you a call if I didn't see a post from you. When I woke up this morning, my first thought was "I wonder how Renewed is doing", lol. I still can't believe how good you sounded on the phone yesterday. You rock!! Take it easy and try to get some good rest (if that's possible, lol). Call me if you don't feel up to posting and I'll update everyone. And ditto on the bestest band buddy....you're the best!!!!
  18. I happen to like the chocolate. But everyone's taste is different. Some people swear by the Bariatric advantage I wanted to vomit drinking them. I don't think the premeir protein tastes like chocolate milk though. I also lime unjury and I think their chocolate tastes like chocolate milk when made with milk
  19. I have Kaiser and I have relatively low co-pays except for emergency visits which are $100 a pop. But, bariatric surgery is $500 co-pay up front. I checked my coverage right away, first to see if they covered it, and saw the cost then. To me, it beats $10K out of pocket (on the cheap side) if I had to pay for it without insurance. Good luck with your surgery, hope all goes smoothly!
  20. Hi Renewed Hope, I plateaued before my first surgery too -- I think that just happens when we get close to goal. That said, my advice would be to mix up your exercise routine a bit. If you like running, maybe you can have some days where you do some anaerobic activity, like sprinting. Also you might want to do some "long cardio" on certain days. When I'm in my regular exercise routine, I try to have one or two (ideally two, time permitting) days where I go out and take long (2-3 hour) hilly hikes. Weight lifting is another thing that works really well for me, although I haven't done it since early June because of my surgeries. I find that keeping my body guessing about what I might put it through next really seems to help keep up a fairly steady weight loss. Hope this helps, and looking forward to hearing more about your upcoming PS journey!:smile::thumbup:
  21. I have been doing the bariatric advantage shakes. They are meal replacements and YES im hungry!! Lol..my only motivation is that I HAVE to lose 9 more pounds for the insurance requirements. . I was thinking of also trying the protein drink Isopure..since its clear (good for post-op) and has like 30g of protein..any feedback on that??
  22. I was sleeved in June and waited until Christmas the same year. I had brandy in a vanilla Protein shake. It was like a Brandy Alexander---bariatric style! Now, when I want a social drink, I am back to my beloved dirty martinis with three olives. Olives have some nutritional value, right??? That's my theory and I'm sticking to it. If you really want the RIGHT answer for YOU----ask your surgeon. Sit down with him/her and have a serious conversation about when/if it will be OK for YOU to have alcohol. Remember, some of the answers you might get on an internet site are just "smoke and mirrors"----not real.--just posted for "shock value". Be forewarned, Friend. Want the right answer to any serious question? ASK YOUR TEAM.
  23. IV Tylenol and advil are staples for bariatrics where I work. Every patient gets them (OFIRMEV and CALDOLOR) Im surprised they're not more commonly used tbh

    Ice cream?

Healthier is a matter of perspective. Are you looking for higher Protein content? Lower sugar content? I've read lots of great recipes for homemade protein ice cream. Both of my go-to bariatric food websites, theworldaccordingtoeggface.com and bariatricfoodie.com, both have recipes for protein ice cream. For low sugar, you would just have to look around. Your local place might have some sugar free option, not sure about Diary Queen. For store bought stuff, I prefer pre-portioned stuff. It keeps me from having to measure out servings...because my tiny tummy is not going to tell me it's full of ice cream in only 1/2 cup or whatever a "serving" is on the label. I like the Breyer's/Edy's Carbwise ice cream bars line...although, I count total carbs rather than net carbs, so have to really read the label to figure out the total carb count. I think the last time I bought some, the total carbs was around 11 carbs..which I can work into my day. ~Kat
