  1. I am on the puréed diet right now and was wondering if anyone had some really recipes they'd like to share? Or some things you ate? Also, my doctor doesn't allow yogurt, pudding, or Jello in this stage, did yours?

    Protein powders

I like Dr Axe Collegen Protein for mixing into not-shakes. I put it in my coffee and tea. Naked Whey has a kind of almost cheese smell to it so that one is good for soft proteins like cottage cheese and yogurt. Both of these products are non- gmo and chemical free.

    Started the liquid diet

I tried so many different Protein shakes. It was a little pricey but I found some that I could tolerate much better than other ones. Its such a personal taste thing though. I like the Bariatric Advantage Orange Cream and banana. They were both good. I also like the Pure Protein Banana Creme ready to drink, in a can. Vitamin Shoppe makes a real good chocolate Mint. I am a vanilla guy, not a huge fan of chocolate but these things were amazeballs. whey Tech Pro 25 Chocolate Mint. Also, If you have not done this yet, its so worth it. nectar has a deal where you can get single serve sample packs of their flavors pretty cheap. You can only do it once, but gives you an opportunity to try their flavors. http://www.si03.com/EMAIL/nectar_gng_sampler/nectarsampler.html I also used the protein powders in the plain oikos non fat yogurt. That helps get more protein in. I also liked the Isopure prtein drinks. Its not as thick, more like gatorade but its an acquired taste. Hope these ideas can help.

    Started the liquid diet

I'm allowed the jello and Popsicles and cream soups and yogurt but I need to make sure I get my protein in so I wanted to start my dAy off with a shake and it is just sooooooo gross

    I am having potty problems

I have heard of others having this issue. Thankfully I haven't had bowel issues either way. If it's a matter of probiotics, perhaps it's because I eat a lot of greek yogurt.
  6. Congrats! My pre-op and post-op diet is the same. I'm allowed things like cottage cheese, light Greek yogurt, sugar free Jello and pudding, blenderized low fat Soups, Protein drinks, etc. I went to BJs before my surgery and picked up a case of the premier Protein Drinks and they also had a box of 24 assorted sugar free jellos and puddings. I'm only 2 days out from surgery and still in the hospital so I have no desire to eat anything, we'll see what my taste buds like when I get home.
  7. My full liquid diet after surgery includes light yogurt (with no stir ins), strained low fat cream Soup, Protein drinks, Jello, skim milk, sugar free Popsicles. I would buy enough of these items for your first 2 weeks. Also make sure you have your supplements. I'm excited too.. I'm scheduled for Jan 4

Proper Meal size at 3 weeks

Not all surgeons have the same program. My program after surgery was 2 weeks of liquids only, pureed consistency foods for the next 4 weeks, then on to a full diet. I just started the full diet yesterday and so far eat very little (about 1 ounce of lean meat, one string cheese stick). I still eat yogurt and make my protein shakes, but the amount of solid food I eat remains small. Most people have said it takes a while (sometimes many months) for the stomach to be ready to handle much more than that. I would definitely check with your surgeon and/or nutritionist.

    Gas, explosive style!

I am only 2-weeks post op, but giving my very limited experience, I would say your body did not like what you ate. I tried cottage cheese the other day. 1st time since surgery. My intestines felt like a racetrack. Must have been NASCAR with all the bumping and rumbling going on. Very much as you described. So maybe your insides didn't want Greek yogurt? Good luck.
  10. Not just explosive, but wet and with a light colored discharge. Came on yesterday after eating greek yogurt and some high protein granola mixed in. Been taking gas x but so far no help. Sorry if TMI, just worried about black age or Crohns!

My doctor said eat what I can, but without doubt DRINK!!!! and PROTEIN!!! I eat very little at one time. I did find protein chews- peanut butter chocolate - 10mg of protein ,not to gross, from think thin. I miss salads and vegis. Lost 23 lbs - 5 weeks post op. I feel so much better!!!

I need food! 7 days post op

OK, so it sounds like most everyone is on some kind of liquids - clear or full - for at least 2 weeks post surgery. Now I know every surgeon's plan is a but different, but should I be concerned that my surgeon has me progressing to solid food too quickly? Per his post op diet plan I am only on liquids for 2 days post op and then I go straight to mushies from Day 3 - 14. Day 14 starts with textured food. Veterans please take a look at this plan, should I be worried? I am having VSG 12/7 and want to make sure I am set up to succeed! Beware Peanuts!

@@Proud2BMe They are a HUGE weakness for me as well. Did you know that a serving of honey roasted peanuts has 4-5 g of sugar and vanilla greek yogurt has 20-30 g of sugar? So it's a much better choice, right?? Maybe not. Not if I mindlessly munch on them and flavored almonds. I found Target brand ziplock bags with measurements on them. I started individually packaging nuts so I don't overindulge. They are so yummy!

    Exercising

Drinking Water...or hydrating--period, was very difficult for me; as it is for most. However, in the midst of my exercise routine, drinking water was much easier. Hopefully, you will find it easier to hydrate during your exercise as well. I personally tried to consume higher calorie foods on my exercise days. I needed the energy and sustainability to get through my rigorous activities. My biggest go-to was unsalted nuts or natural peanut/almond butter. At 6 weeks post-op, I know consumption is really difficult. At your stage, Greek yogurt embedded with fruits was my other go-to-food. The extra sugar gave me extra energy. One last tip for hydrating: ice. I love to go to my local Dairy Queen (I'm a Texas girl) and grab a cup of their fine, soft ice and munch on it. It goes down so much easier that drinking water. Keep it up!!!

    So proud of myself!

@@rking "proud of myself" you should be!!! i think you are aces any accomplishment you make is not a "small thing" cereal, bagels and cream cheese, yum, yum, yum good not yet!!! you stayed away from them, putting your nose up - staying away from these yummies!! you controlled yourself having chosen yogurt, milk and juice (be careful about juice ie OJ) grapefruit etc hidden sugars you stayed away from your "old" friend maybe your first NSV!!!??? at a llllllater time you will be able to eat a bite or two of anything moderation/portions are key for the rest of your life!!! you said above "I can do it!! of course you can silly head LOL i never doubted you for a minute!!!! keep up the good work newbie kathy
  16. You should consult with your surgeon or nutritionist, as every plan is different. I was allowed protein shakes and drinkable yogurt on day 3 post-op, as I recall, but all my other liquids still had to be clear until I was allowed strained cream soups around day 7.
  17. I flew to Dallas for my first post op appointment. I am 15 days out. I am doing fantastic. Could not be any better. At home it is easy to eat right because I have everything there that I need. This morning at the hotel for breakfast, it was a "free" one with eggs, bacon, cereal, bagels, cream cheese, you know the ones. I have always pigged out at those. This morning I had a yogurt, juice, and milk. They may seem like a small thing but I actually made a good choice! I CAN do it!!!!!!
  18. My nut has us on 3 small meals and 3 small Snacks per day - like eating every several hours, and I still can't get my 60-80 grams of Protein. So I still drink one protein shake (premiere protein) and that alone has 30 grams of protein. I take sips throughout the day while at work to stretch it out. For snacks, I usually choose from the following: 2-3 ounces of low-sodium Boars head ham and then 1 ounce of mozzarella cheese (sometimes wrapping the meat around the cheese) - cheese is 7g of protein & ham is 9g a single serving container of natural Peanut Butter, which is 9g of protein Oikos Triple Zero Greek yogurt has 15g of protein 1/2 cup of cottage cheese has 13g of protein (I can only eat about 1/4 c. at a time) 1/2 cup of black Beans are 12g of protein (I use 1/3 cup plus a TBS of Rotel tomatoes and 1 TSP of low-fat sour cream
  19. I started on unsweetened applesauce then graduated to yogurt then refried Beans. Didn't have eggs for a while but I didn't enjoy them either. I still have some trouble with eggs at four months. It does get better. Puree is the WORST stage. Hang in there.
  20. I was glad to have unsweetened applesauce, refried Beans and Greek yogurt (in addition to my Protein shakes) so I didn't have to go out to the store for a while. It was so strange eating 2 ounces of food and then nothing for four hours. I was so glad I had done the pre-op liquid diet to prepare myself mentally for this change of lifestyle. Good walking shoes and a place to walk that is warm. I go to the local mall. It's a mile inside roundtrip with benches to sit on along they way for needed rest breaks. For me, I had books and movies in abundance. Needed some distractions. Good luck!
  21. Hi all! I was sleeved on 8/25. I've lost 33# post op. I've had several stalls. I have found that I do much better when my protein is around 100 grams. I have a shake most mornings and triple zero yogurt at night. I have cheese and almonds for my snack. My protein during the day is usually chili, chicken, salami. I bumped up my cardio which has helped. I lost 3.4 # this past week. I'm 5'2 and have 57# more to lose. My goal is to have it off at the 9-12 month mark. I lost 30 preop so I'm thrilled with my results- I have a shape now! Not just a big blob!! Lol!

    Pre-op Dieters, check in!

@@aaonthego first I want to say lucky you for the one week diet I'm jealous lol... It's really not that bad though I'm not sure what your surgeon allows everyone is a little different I am allowed to have post op week 1 and week 2 combined for these two weeks. So I am getting by pretty much on thin hot cereals, liquid egg substitute, strained soups and protein drinks. I also am doing sugar free jello and greek yogurts for snacks. I drink plenty of water throughout the day and I stay pretty full most days. Broth is something most people do but I can't get it down I tried and the smell of it was so gross. Im looking for broth tips myself for week one post op. Hope this helps a bit..Good Luck!!
  23. Me? I'm sticking to a lot of things that were in my liquid diet - smoothies, Protein shakes, yoghurt. But I've added sliced meats and mince (that I'm making sure to chew into puree - naughty I know), baked Beans, chunkier Soups, eggs. Honestly, I was miserable during the liquid stage but as soon as I added something as simple as eggs I was happier. Or sliced meats and tomato sauce. Suddenly they have become a delicacy haha. Omg!! I'm scared to start on meats and chunky Soup because I didn't get the " ok"from my nutritionists or my Doctor so I'm stuck on the soups and Italian ice yogurts and puddings and stuff of that nature..I've tried a half of grape to see if it stays down and it went pretty well I didn't get nauseous or anything. I'm just scared to start my next stage without the approval
  24. Soo I'm 3 weeks Post Op as of today..and I'm seeing everywhere that people that are at my stage, have been eating, but very soft foods like boiled eggs or scrambled eggs tuna or Canned chicken or Pureed foods. Should I be starting on food of such?..or am I at the right stage?, because I still only have liquids, like juice water protein shakes Broth and milk also Popsicles pudding yogurts and jello. When I last saw my Doctor he told me to start on "Stage 3"..but when I read the stages..I should have been started on Stage 3 right after I got home..and the next time I see my Doctor is in 5 weeks????..so I'm going to be on Liquids and puddings for 5 more weeks??!?!?..ahhh!!????????

    Well, duh! Meal sizes

I guess I wasn't clear in my post, sorry. I weigh and track everything in MFP, and always do my protein first. I am meeting my protein goals, but am trying to up my DENSE protein, and reduce my protein shakes. It was just weird to realize I was limiting my dense protein to one ounce in the morning, out of habit. Then for my midmorning snack, I was doing a protein shake. I'll be upping the dense protein at breakfast, and switch to a Greek yogurt for the snack.
