6 month diet program - Anthem

I have Anthem BCBS, too. I have been approved for surgery and slso had the 6 month physician supervised diet program. One month I gained like 10 lbs and lost it the following month. I still got approved, so don't worry, but don't gain 5 lbs every month!! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    January surgeries?!

I have been eating 1-2 bites when introducing new foods to see if that dreaded nausea is starting. I then wait 10 minutes before the next bite, hoping I can tell if it’s gonna make me sick

    It was NOT gas pain.

Wishing you a fast recovery. I went thru almost the same as you. After a couple of days of having the pain I drove my self to ER (pain and all) the Dr. in ER saw me that bad that she took me in right away and started pain killers, ultrasound, X-ray, and Ct scan. And found the PVT in the CT scan. I was hospitalized for 2 days and put on blood thinners it has helped. But now I have a menstrual cycle that is heavy and going on 4 weeks. Seeing my doctor this week and hematologists. Sleeve doctor says abnormal cycles are regular after surgery but the medicine they gave me also says to be cautious of abnormal cycles. And like you presurgery no health problems. My husband is hating this surgery. I’m just hopeful that I won’t have any other complications. So I won’t regret it. Weight loss wise I’ve lost about 22 lbs. I got surgery 1/7/19. And I think I’m ready for exercise but with this heavy menstrual idk. Best of luck to you.

    ❤ FEBRUARY 2019 CHALLENGE ❤

Hey all. I haven’t checked in in a while though I’ve been creeping. Struggling with the no junk challenge. I seem to have issues with the whole NO thing. I would say I make 80% solidly good choices. 10% borderline. And 10% just like “what is this mess you are putting in your mouth?” Will keep on trucking. Every meal is a new chance. Doing well on the exercise challenge. Yesterday my kids did the name challenge with me. The five year olds push ups were hilarious. Went to the gym today and did a 30 min strength/cardio circuit. Here’s a combo no makeup selfie and three people I love love love. My three sons. ❤️❤️❤️
  6. Kay, I think we are all different--so the answer changes a lot based on where you are starting from. If you're are 30 years old, had a BMI below 40 on the day of surgery and are otherwise healthy, you'll be ready to hit the gym for light to moderate cardio 2-3 weeks after surgery. I am 45 and I had a BMI of 35 on the day of surgery. I as at the gym a week after surgery, walking on the treadmill and hitting the elliptical machine every day (It's too cold where I live to walk outside--so this was my substitute). Two to three weeks post-op I started taking spin classes, but not pushing myself to the max. I just worked on getting myself back into the groove. At my one month post-op consult, my surgeon gave me the all clear to weight train and do any other physical activity. The next day, I started weight training and hitting the cardio with high intensity. I am now almost 8 weeks post-op and I am working out around 2-2.5 hours a day, six days a week. Typically, I am doing 45-1 hour of cardio (spin classes 4x a week and more moderate intensity cardio the other three days), 45 minutes of weight training 6 days a week (also varying in intensity and type) and another 10 minutes for abs which I do 5 times a week. FYI, if you're eager to hit the gym after surgery, just understand that you may lose weight a little slower than you would if you just dieted alone. On the other hand, you will significantly improve your body composition by hitting the gym because you'll help maintain your muscle tissue so more of the weight that you lose will come from fat. I knew this before I started working out, but I want to have a good physique not just be thin and soft.

    Weight on License

Can't wait to renew mine...I lied the last time and grossly under-reported my weight (I was 225 ish and said 165) 😐 So now it says 165 and I'm 123 July '19 come onnnnnn renewal!
  8. Hi. I am new to this forum so please bare with me. I had my sleeve done on 1/5/19 and new this was going to be the greatest thing I’ve ever done in my life other than having my kids. Now I am very emotional, still having horrible gas pains, no BM yet, and wondering if this was the best idea. I’ve done everything that I am suppose to but feel like I am not doing something right. I keep telling myself this too shall pass but not sure I believe it.
  9. Hi all, Just found this forum. So excited to have "friends" going through this with me. Was sleeved Jan. 14th, 2019. Down 22 pounds so far. (Exciting) But stalled this week. Trying not to get depressed about it. Started walking today. Hoping that will jumpstart things again. Would love advice and encouragement.

  13. For me I gained while on the program and was told that I needed to show I can lose or stay at the same weight before moving forward, but I think it depends on your nutritionist I did gain 10 lbs in a month I was asked was I serious about losing weight moving forward I had to either lose a pound or more or not gain in order to move forward in the program I did lose 5 lbs the following month. As of March 7 I’ll be having my surgery I’m doing the sleeve.

    February 2019 Sleevers

I'm curious how you manged those 8 days. I have to be off for 10 days prior and 2-3 months after. I've got fibro, chronic migraines, trigmenial neuralgia as far as Chronic Pain conditions. I take celebrex 2 times daily. My surgeon says my primary and neurologist will need to come up with an adequate pain plan, but without NSAIDS and no opiates things will get rough. What's working for you? I'm so nervous.

  19. I recently had surgery on the 6th of February 2019. But I'm craving fruit really bad. How long will it be before i can have soft foods?
  20. I was given a surgery date 3 months into the 6 month process. They finally submited to insurance on 01/22/19 once I had met all my requirements, and approval came back in good time for my 02/05/19 surgery. These places seem to know what they're doing, don't worry!

    MGB V RNY weight loss

As Jazzy, there's a lot of individualism involved. There is a perspective from some docs that assign a BMI score to the different procedures to indicate their relative "power" - a lapband may be "worth" 10 BMI points, while a VSG or RNY are worth 15-20 points and a DS maybe 25. The MGB would be in that same region as the VSG and RNY. This just indicates relative strength, and also indicates that, given the wide variation in results, that most of that variation owe to individual factors - metabolic quirks, diet and exercise compliance and compatibility, etc. One can also say that the different procedures have something of a "personality", such that any particular individual may do better with one procedure vs. another, even if that procedure is statistically less "powerful". Stated another way, particularly with these "middle ground" procedures like the VSG/MGV/RNY, which are overall fairly close together in performance, individual factors will be more important than which procedure is deemed to be "better" overall. Another factor that I see in this is intent - the MGB was originally developed to be a simpler, faster, less expensive variant of the RNY, that was (hopefully} as good as, or at least almost as good as, the RNY. Its' rationale was primarily to be simpler rather than better performing. Contrast with the duodenal switch, when that was first developed some thirty years ago, it was intended to offer better performance than the default RNY rather than be simpler (which it certainly is not!) So, on that basis, I would not look to the MGB as being "better" than the RNY on weight loss performance, unless there is something about it that really seems to "click" with you.
  22. I am new to this Journey so i cannot speak from experience. I am not sure what exactly you are eating but try replacing those items that are veering you off the path with something else. If its the sweet thing at the store.. get something else sweet at the store like fruit in a cup or something. If its the after dinner snack along with the kids, start making them SF Jello with Fat Free cool whip. Go back to the alternatives. Instead of Pizza, do the cauli crust Pizza.. Sub one thing at a time so you dont feel like you are cheating yourself.. but make the changes before that 10 pounds turns to 20.. etc. Good Luck!
  23. I was sleeved 1/15/19 and after I was cleared I first used the ScarAway Strips, then ScarAway gel and now Mederma, but my scars dont seen to be getting any lighter. Has these products worked for anyone? Has anyone found something else that works better?

    ❤ FEBRUARY 2019 CHALLENGE ❤

DAY 10 Got up early to get my exercise in. Also gives me alone time to think. Having brunch today with my sister, who thinks I've lost enough weight. This is the thin sister, who "encourages" you to eat. I'm planning ahead on what to eat and say to her. Another quote I'm fond of: "Be yourself. Everyone else is already taken." By Oscar Wilde.
