I'm about a week out and I haven't lost that foggy/lightheaded feeling. I'm still on Clear liquids and broth for now. Assuming maybe it's an Iron thing? Any suggestions? I'd prefer not to have to go get any more supplements! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I'm almost three months post op sleeve surgery. Ive been pretty lucky and have not had many issues but I do have this tightness feeling through rib cage area. At two weeks post op I saw my primary care doctor and told him about the tightness. He was not concerned and said my body will continue to change. The feeling is a tightness. Sometimes worse than others. Feels like i am unable to take in deep breaths. I had sleeve and gastric sleeve surgery. I don't have any pain. Wondering if anyone else has had this weird feeling. Thank you Sent from my Z970 using Tapatalk

I had one last week and they dropped it off at 7pm and picked it around 7am would have come earlier but I didn't have to work. They even caked me with my results and report after 3 days. My mom had her done by a different doctor. She picked hers up and then dropped it off the next day. It is very easy they show you and give you written instructions. I had a pulse oxygen reading on right hand finger. Nasal sensor (looks like I was getting oxygen) and a band with a monitor around my chest.

I have no real cravings for food usually. I eat what I like, I don't want for sweets or anything "bad". Then that special time of the month comes around and my brain thinks that I am back to my "old" self. I crave cake, pastry, ice cream, chocolate - what the hell???? I crave it so much that I mistakenly think I can eat a few bites of them - and then I feel sick and crappy. It's so weird, my brain just forgets all the experiences of the past several months and the cravings are exactly the same as they were before the surgery. For a day I get really worried thinking that the magic of the surgery has worn off and then I remember that hormones are very powerful. By the end of the week I should be back to my new normal and these compulsions will be behind me. ANyone else have this happen to them? I also notice that my hot flashes come back during this time.

Stopped Losing, Help!
rodswife replied to dzsunshine2901's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're not doing anything wrong. You aren't going to lose weight every single day. Your body has to catch up. You will go through numerous stalls. You will have times where you lose inches instead of pounds. It's normal. But, you will not see that scale drop daily. Of that, I am positive. You have to burn 3500 calories to lose a pound. Just hang in there and don't worry. It will come off. Slower is better anyway because you have less skin sagging and perhaps less hair loss. -
Stopped Losing, Help!
VJSlim replied to dzsunshine2901's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you weighing daily? If so you should know that it could be very dicouraging when you dont see scale movement. I used to do that -- weigh every other day - it was so frustrating. Then my doc advised to weigh weekly for the first 3 months and then once every two weeks. That helps with the peace of mind LOL AND -- everyone goes through stalls in this journey. Most famous one is the 3rd week stall. Happens to almost everyone. Be prepared for that too and dont freak out. You'll do great! Concentrate on your Protein and Fluid intake - everything will fall in place. All the best!! -
Well, my surgery was cancelled!
amayzme replied to bonmilligan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wasn't covered by insurance ... i went to Mexico. To dr. Almanza at Jerusalem hospital . Cost me about 4000.00 plus flight. I am 7 weeks out and doing fine. Lost 28# so far. -
My BMI is 35.7. 5'2 weighing 195. I'm in my 40s with hypertension, prediabetes, and psuedotumor cerebri. All 3 were listed as comorbidities. I have Horizon Omnia insurance and hope as I begin this journey that I will be approved for surgery. My initial consultation is in a few weeks so I would love to get a heads up on the process as well link up with others who have had similar stats. I wonder if I will lose too much weight. I don't think I would look right under 130lbs. Any input, suggestions, and advice is appreciated. Thank you[emoji4] Sent from my LG-LS998 using BariatricPal mobile app

50 Days Post Op 50Lbs gone bye bye.
Officially Not Fatty Matty posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Whoop! Hope I can keep this pace going. I’m sure it’ll slow, my initial rolling seven day average was around 10-12 for the first couple weeks and it’s been hovering right around 4lbs a week since. Once I got past the low energy stage I feel like hyper-mode has been activated. No food issues. I’m capable of eating anything it seems nothing disagrees with me, just making good choices every day, and the restriction is still very high, an ounce or two depending on what it is. Ate some raw jalapeños even. I haven’t been this light since college (in the 90s). Doesn’t seem possible... wish I did this years ago. -
Thanks for the advice. We are hoping at least 1 week apart but right now I think we just want to do it so we will take any date. We do have a great support system too. So we will see! Nice meeting you! Amy

Hey everyone! Just wanted to Introduce myself and talk on the site more now that I am getting closer to the surgery time. I have been reading the site for months but hardly responded to threads. I am 28 years old with a BMI of 40. I am about half way through all my stuff and will be completed Sept 5. So then my Dr. can scheldue my surgery. I have done the Support Group (it was a little boring). Not that I didnt like the people it was just everyone seemed to be a lot older then me. And they were complaining alot about the food restrictions and talking about how to cheat. The first hour was spent talking about how to organize your home. I wanted to talk about the LapBand! But I guess they get tired of talking about it. I have my Psych Eval tomorrow and then I take my Psych Eval test (its like a 2 hour test) at the end of the week. My Nutrition class is next Thursday and I am getting my Labs done next week. Thats all I need to do. My company's insurance has "Obesity Clause" in it so it means they specifically wrote in that they will pay for WLS. You just have to be 40 BMI or 35-40 with 1 comorb. I have no co morb so I meet because I am 40 BMI. My sister had gastric 5 years ago and she has a lot of little problems so I figured LapBand was better for me. My hubby is also getting the surgery. All of our appointments are the same days..so we may even get the surgery the same day! Can't wait to start this Journey! I cant wait till I get my surgery date. I have heard it prolly will be the end of October/early November. Nice to Meet everyone!

Thanks for all the feedback! I am going to ask my doctor about it when I go in 2 weeks... for now, I get rid of it by eating... I just wish I could remember to eat before I get it because... OUCH! IT HURTS!!! Michelle, I get the gassy stomach too sometimes. This band in a fickle thing. Lisa, I agree... we do need a new topic for 'Wierd Phenomonons' Betty, I have heard the same thing and I actually think that when my stomach growls and 'rolls over' it may cause my band to push against my diaphragm (don't even know if that is possible) and causes the deferred pain in my shoulder. Maybe if I was more up on my human anatomy I could have a more logical guess. :knockedou Thanks everyone! :cheeky

I was allowed pills per my surgeon at 1 month (he preferred them split in two) but I now take my vitamins, Tylenol, and my PPI in pill form every day, no issues and no problems. Been doing it since the 1 month point and I'm 6 months next week!

Super Tired, Two Months Out, Hit A Stall :(
lunabella007 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am seriously exhausted, like almost all the time. I started taking huge doses of B Vitamins in addition to my bariatric vitamins in an effort to make myself a little more alert. Caffeine isn't helping very much either. I realize my body is working hard right now to convert my fat into energy. I get that it's hard work, and takes a toll. However, I am still sleeping 11-12 hours a night. It's hard to be active, and exercise when I feel like I'm dragging myself through the day. Add to that, I've hit a stall. I've been just about single-mindedly focusing on getting all my Protein in, and getting enough Fluid. Any advice, or encouragement would be appreciated. Has anyone been through this before? -
Second Guessing - Surgery next week!!
Jeter2 replied to Jeter2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You all have made me feel so much better. I never thought I would have this last minute fear because I had been waiting so long for the surgery. I started with my first visit to the bariatric center in March '07 and becasue of unforseen problems I didn't end up with the actual surgery date until June 18th, 2008. When the realization hit that it was only a week away -- WOW-- it hit me! I'm still nervous, but I believe I'm ready. My pre-op visit yesterday went well. I was even told that after a few months I could have a little diet Pepsi, my fave. My doctor's office says that they've been reviewing the diet soda thing for a long time and see no evidence that it causes any harm. But it also has no nutritional value, so I intend to try to not have it, but it makes me feel a little better knowing later on I can try some if I want. I also met a really nice nurse that had adopted a little girl from China, like we have, and we talked about how much more I would be able to do with my kids. My husband and older daughter went hiking in the Adirondacks a few weeks back, and I didn't go because I knew I would just hold them back. Next year, I'm going!! Thanks for all of the encouragement!! --Gail -
Second Guessing - Surgery next week!!
Jeter2 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all, I've only posted a couple times but I read this sight all the time. My surgery date is June 18th and I have my pre-op later today. I am soooo nervous! Will it work? Complications? I decided not to tell anyone except my husband, because we came to the conclusion that our families are just to judgmental. His family -- all thin and eat what they want-- mine : fat and don't care! Both would be against the band for different reasons. Will I really be able to keep this a secret? I really want this to work but I'm afraid of not waking up from the surgery (I've had 2 surgeries before, so why does this bother me?), I'm afraid of regretting the decision afterward because I love food!! I hate the aches and pains I have, the sleep apnea, and I don't even like to be in family pictures due to me weight. I know I'm rambling but every worst case scenario keeps popping into my head!! (I'm that type of person, but things usually work out in the end, I just like to be prepared!) I guess I'm just looking for words of encouragement here, and if anyone's got them I'm all ears. One last thing, our whole family (hubby, me, two kids) are trying to eat better, but at age 40 my husband eats anything and everything and is still at his high school lacrosse playing weight. He says he knows he needs to eat better for health reasons too but I feel he may sabbotage my progress with his snacking. What to do? Thanks for reading my ramble. I'll post after my pre-op tomorrow. --Gail -
Banded yesterday and I'm so bored...

Banded yesterday. When does swelling go down? & other questions
TylerAshton567 replied to RobinLB's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well question 1 idk cuz I didn't have one of those wrap things so I'm assuming it doesn't rly matter I just used a pillow when needed. 2nd that's exactly where my port id do the pain ur feeling is where ur skin and muscle is swollen and bruised prolly from your port if that's where urs is at. 3rd yup the bending over and twisting and leaning is going to hurt for a couple of weeks. Your body is getting adjusted to something foreign being in there. Right now ur body is not to happy to have it in there but I'm a week post op and most the pain is gone I'm still having to use my pain meds to sleep cuz I still can't lay on my stomache so my sides hurt from laying on them. The only thing I can rly suggest is take lots of gas x strips and walk a lot it may stink to walk but its worth it. I was able to get most the gas out within 48 hrs. Now with just a week post op I'm walking around all day just fine with hardly any pain. Now I can tell u this all most everyone ends up having a hard time with ur bowle movements so u may want to look into stool softners because now once u get constipated its extremely uncomfortable. Good luck and just remember soon u will be skinny yay! -
How to Sleep After...
Jewelsm1127 replied to Destined*Lady*D's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I parked it on the couch propped up on pillows with a heating pad for the first 5 days. After that I moved into bed but the sleep wasn't the best because I'm also a side and stomach sleeper. After a week I was able to sleep on my side. Hang in there...all in good time. :-) -
I was told to take B 12 post op, 500 mcg/day. I did that. I saw my pcp at about 2 1/2 months post op due to feeling no energy. She ordered a bunch of lab work, except for my tsh level (due to a different issue)and everything came back normal except for the B 12, which was too high. She told me to stop the B12 until I see the surgeon next week. I looked up what I could and apparently B12 is Water soluble, and any excess would be excreted in urine. An elevated B12 level is pretty rare. Has it happened to anybody else? It can be a symptom of other problems, like liver or kidney issues and things like that. It's been on my mind...

Advice Needed!
LindafromFlorida replied to chsmith23's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Four weeks post op I got choked on a bit of chicken. I thought I was having a heart attack and I am serious. You may have swallowed that pork okay, but being newly sleeved I was advise you to not do it again until your plan calls for food. Next time you might not be so lucky with solid food going down easy. At almost 5 months out we are still eating carefully and slowly. Too many posts here have warned me. Good luck finding the right shakes and things that agree with you. I have Immodium AD for the bad times and Milk of Magnesia for the other bad times. -
Book on self sabotaging
cheryl2586 replied to melanndoll's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
You have to come to the realization that you have to do what you need to do to get healthy. Stop thinking about it as losing weight and think about it as being healthy. When I get in those moods where I want to eat a half gallon of ice cream I think about how good I feel after losing 120lbs and how easily I could just put it right back on. Of course weight loss is a plus but you are trying to get healthy. Free yourself from food prison. Only you can do that. No book, no therapist, no one but you can do it. We are addicted to food point blank. If you want to let your addiction keep you prisoner for life then do it. Put the scale away and stop getting on it until you can wrap your head around the fact that it's not going to move everyday, every week or every month in some cases. If you just make good food choices then the weight will come off. You have to want it more then sabotaging yourself. If not then you won't get it. -
My dr said while I was still in hospital that I could exercise as soon as I felt up to it, that I couldn't 'dislodge' anything by exercising. I started walking 3 days post op and was back to doing crunches 1 week post op.
