Pre Op liquid diet .. Please help
paigem replied to MrsSantiago's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Omg! Just got call yesterday that insurance finally approved lap band to sleeve revision! I'm scheduled 12/15 which is less than 2 weeks. Starting my pre-op diet now & freaking out that I've got so much to do with Christmas coming & so little time. -
After 8 years with a moderately successful lapband I am revising to RNY Monday morning. I've been painfully aware of my port for months now and can't wait to have it removed. I am praying that no lasting damage has been done and all goes smoothly. I know many are in my situation so I will update my progress next week - wish me luck!

questions about band to bypass revision
Pinkgirl1234 replied to bandedat19's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
OMG.I am so sorry to hear this. There should be a class action lawsuit and a ban on the lap band procedure.I have so much damage and I am awaiting approval from the insurance company..In pain and I feel bilious because my port has flipped...I had a doctor that I saw in the same practice that was known as the "lapband Doctor ".No personality and a bad attitude when someone came in complaining and seeking a revision. He performed some sleeve procedures but was adamant that he performs the procedure 6 months apart.First removal then revision.I have had a DVT...not looking to have to separate procedures.I was originally going for a revision to a sleeve but my acid reflux is off the charts. This band has caused damage to my insides.Plus I developed breast cancer...hmmm....silicone in body...erosion... I changed to another doctor in the same practice....you could tell they know the band is faulty....you could see it when you discuss all your problems...they have heard it all many times before. If I don't get it out soon...I am in trouble I think you should seek a lawsuit!!! -
Hi , I'm Eve ,Australia. I had the ban removed 3 months ago after it being in for 5 1/2 years. Wan't overly successful for me. I'm having the Omega Loop in January so I'll be interested to keep reading posts from people who've had revisions of like mine. Eve I also have an MGB in January and and I'm an Aussie. I thought I was going to to have the Roux-en-Y until my appointment with my surgeon yesterday and he advised the MGB. So I'm re-educating myself. My impression is the post op diet is much the same as the Roux-en-Y, would you agree?

LOW BMI (27), APPROVED, having second thoughts.. HELP
liannatx replied to Scottyd1264's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I wish I had just done revision when my band first failed! I had success with the band, losing 85 lbs and having 2-3 great years maintaining under 150 lbs... A slip and I spent 2 years of fills, unfills, fills followed by emergency unfills (twice), and finally a total unfill and empty band for 4 years. I gradually gained back every pound and then some... I would have had the revision at the first slip if I could do it differently. -
Enlarged pouch & small slip
liannatx replied to staceface09's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am surprised they did a fill with a slip! My doctor did an almost complete unfill to see if it would right itself... but that was the beginning of my band issues. It did right itself, and when I started getting fills again it totally slipped... resulting in a complete unfill. I had the older 4cc band though... and once I started having complications it was never good for me again after that. I don't think the BMI qualifications are the same on a revision as on the original surgery. -

My friend revised from the band to the sleeve. She only had 30 pounds to go and the insurance approve it since her band failed. BEST DECISION OF HER LIFE (according to her) and she looks and feels awesome. Anyway, hope everything works out for you! -
LOW BMI (27), APPROVED, having second thoughts.. HELP
MeFirst replied to Scottyd1264's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had the band for 2.5 years. It had to come out due to infection that started at the port site. My last year with the band was torturous....with pain, 2 surgeries to revise port, and a final surgery to take the band out. My surgeon offered the sleeve to me at time of removal, but I was so emotionally exhausted from my complications that I opted not to have a revision to the sleeve. 2 years and 80lbs later----I wish I would have taken his advice and gone with the revision to the sleeve. I am currently jumping through insurance hoops hoping to get the sleeve in February. This is just my personal experience. You might be much more capable of maintaining your weigh loss than me -
I have recently been told by my doctor after an upper gi that I have an asymmetrical pouch and a small slip. He showed me an example, which when I googled it later, it looks just like pouch dilation. Wouldn't this qualify for a revision? I should have asked more questions but it didn't sink in until I started reading posts on here. I didn't think I had much to worry about because the doctor seemed like it wasn't a big deal. He said we would "keep an eye on it" and if we get to the point it gets worse then he would recommend the sleeve. I have been living uncomfortably the past few years with horrible heartburn, port pain, waking up choking on acid, vomiting, some days I can eat a lot some days I get stuck and vomit.. And now weight gain. I feel so fat and like a failure. I have gained so much weight in the last few months. My dad told me that I have "really packed on the pounds!" And I need to get my "belly tightened". I feel like at any moment I am going to split my pants. I just bought a bunch of new clothes too last year for winter and they are so small compared to how big I am now that I literally sat in my closet and cried. I had an adjustment at my last appointment, even though he said I have what is considered a small slip and that my pouch is enlarged, but I don't feel any restriction. My band was previously too tight and I suffered thru it for two years thinking it was normal and my husband lost his job so we lost our insurance. Now we have Medicaid and although they cover visits to the doctor, I don't know if they cover the revision surgery. I am also scared to death of surgery because I went to the complication forum and read a few horror stories. ????????☹ that really scared the heck out of me!! ️My doctor also said my bmi may not be high enough but I'm 5'4 and weigh 203 pounds...and I think I'm still gaining. This time last year I was 165. What should I do?!?! I called another bariatric doctor but my family doctor won't write me another referral. Help!!?

@@Coles85 We're only a few days apart! I just had a revision from Band to RNY this past Monday, Nov. 30. They wanted me to try 4oz of a protein shake last night, which made me a little nauseated. I even used unsweetened almond milk, and took 1.5 hours to drink it all. Maybe my body isn't quite ready to advance yet! How are you feeling? I was feeling AWFUL the day after surgery and was wondering what I got myself into! But the pain has not been that bad really. And I haven't really had any hunger, besides head hunger when I see Taco Bell on a commercial lol

questions about band to bypass revision
gebbiabn replied to bandedat19's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
@@mbrown but like any WLS, it's a tool. So if people gain their weight back with bypass, wouldn't you say that they may have resorted back to bad eating habits? You can have regain because of that with any WLS. But for someone that the Band did not work for, Sleeve most likely will not work either. They're both restrictive. Bypass is restrictive and malabsorption both. So it changes everything. I wouldn't want to revise from pretty much the same surgery I had to another one (I.E. Band to Sleeve). I have a friend that's 5 years out with Bypass and is doing wonderful. She of course takes all of her Vitamins daily and follows the plan. She continues to keep all of her weight off, and that's throwing a pregnancy in there too. -
BCBS Fed and 2 year weight history requirement
VDLT replied to MeFirst's topic in Insurance & Financing
I also have BCBS Fed and they approved my band to sleeve revision. It was all done at once. I danced around the weight requirement as I don't think I technically met it. I had band complications after 14 years banded and regained a lot of weight during the last two years prior to my revision due to having a complete unfill, which did not resolve my issues. I wrote a letter explaining my history and stated I had been successful with the band until my complications (gastritis, esophagitis, hiatal hernia, left shoulder pain). I wrote how the restriction from the band had helped me lose the weight and maintain it, and how I had regained without restriction. I also wrote about how my quality of life had changed when I had lost the weight etc. If you log on to your fepblue account they will have on there a list of everything you have ever been assessed and diagnosed with. I used all those things on my letter. I was approved very quickly. It might not hurt to just put together your letter with your history and any supporting records (I attached imaging studies from my upper GI showing the gastritis etc, PCP records with a weight history, and records from a band surgeon I was seeing a couple of years prior in which he noted my complications). Let me know if you have any questions. Tag me so I get a notification. -
Does Medicaid cover revisions?
staceface09 posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I was wondering that since Medicaid/Obamacare covers the initial bariatric procedure if anybody knows if they cover the revision surgery? -
Titan- You look great! How much did you lose in 6 months? I had my revision done October 5th and weight loss seems slower than the non-revisions. But at least I'm losing so no complaints... right! I also was a self pay Kaishey- I agree with Titan.. Do it, you will not regret!

I'm from Wichita. My surgery is Dec 8 so it's almost time! I'm having a band to sleeve revision and they removed my band two months ago. Ended up in Intensive Care with a gastric bleed from the band erosion so I'm a little skittish, but still excited and committed! -

For all who are contemplating surgery!
staceface09 replied to titan05's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Wow great job!!!! That is amazing!!! Stories like yours give me hope! I have had my band for 9 years and I have been dealing with horrible acid reflux for the past two and a half years, and now I have found I have a small slip and it may need a revision. I'm so terrified of surgery, I'm so afraid I won't wake up or I'll have a horror story ( I read the complication forum first ????) like a leak or I won't be able to stop losing weight etc. I am glad I read your post! It has eased my mind a little in case I do have to have my band revised to the sleeve -
How long were you in operating room?
DNABILL replied to ladee2279's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had gastric bypass 29 years ago. A lot of scare tissue. It had tone revised 10 years ago. So this brings me to Monday's surgery. The surgery time was 5 Hours. They replace all the old mesh and liced the scare tissue. A very Big surgery. This was my last chance to have a bad put in. All went great. Very sore and 9 holes. It was worth every bit of the pain I had it done at Columbia Pres in NYC. Dr Marks Bessler, he is my hero. Two days later I am on pain Med and clear broth 2oz every 20 mins. Two Baristric advantage shakes a day for a week. For today I am working the band. One day at a time. Good Luck Bill -
The reason I would never consider RnY is due to malabsorption. I am on several medications and cannot afford for them not to be absorbed. My sister had it and the malabsorption of medications was a real problem. I was dead set on lap band until I went to Dr Gs seminar and changed my mind to sleeve. I have also read too many revisions and lots of docs not doing sleeve any more.
