    Photograph Your Food - Journaling

If taking a photo of food helps you..Ya go for it. My food gets repetitive and boring. It's been helpful and fun to see our Bariatric pal shared food photos. Helps me get out of cooking ruts. For me to photo journal on top of my log...Whew..that would be alot of food photos over the last three years..lol

    Slow metabolism?

I'm sorry you are struggling. I think your question if the sleeve is going to work for you ..That may be a question between you and your surgeon. Also..there are other bariatric surgeries that he/she may suggest. This is just my personal experience...It may not apply to your situation. At 1300 calories my protein goal is 130 grams minimum. I am more high protein low carb. I feel more satisfied/full when I eat. After 30 we all start losing muscle...I'm an old fart. I'm trying to keep or build muscle. My body type and exercise....Holy hell..If I don't exercise the scale does not move. I was a true couch potato. I hated exercise...I was not motivated to do it. I had to sign paperwork saying I was committed to an hour of walking. I did it because it was a requirement to have surgery. I had no motivation...I had to give myself perspective... Everyday that I had to force myself to go to the gym ....I said to myself, A military veteran that is sitting in a wheelchair would gladly trade places with me.....They would give anything to go for a walk..... at 254 I could walk for a half hour and that was it...I was out of breath. But, I did it consistently five days a week. I got stronger and started walking my full hour. There is no way I could do monumental exercise...I had to start small...I parked further away from the store to walk. I took the stairs instead of the elevator. I'm three years out and you will never know where WLS will take you...I never thought of myself as a fit or athletic person. I do now...The gym is my replacement for stress and emotional eating..Its where I process all lifes baggage to move forward...
  5. After a week of keeping my mind on the goal, I got down from 196.2lbs to 193.9lbs. I am soo happy. I have not words to describe it. It gave my a renewed hope that I can come down a bit more. I personally don't like being so close to the 200lbs because it is soo easy to get back up to that amount.

This weekend, I spent time looking at my older workout videos and that the one that gets me is the pull up. My first time, I did 3 and 1/2. I struggled soo much to do that. Then the next week, I was doing 6 and I was not struggling as much. It just reminded how far I had come.

Sometimes we focus on the finish line soo much, we do not take time to look back and see how far we have come from the starting line. I have come to the conclusion that I may not get to my weight goal due to my love of weight lifting and strength training but I will take being able to do a pull up and one day hopefully as push up any time.

@karen_marie Thank you. I wanted to be around the 150lbs with muscle but the build of my body allows a lot more muscle. I have packed on soo much of it. My coworker who has been weight training since his early 20's says I annoy him because I can easily gain muscle but he has to struggle to gain. I advised him that while I can gain muscle easier, he burns fat extremely quickly. So we are both **** out of luck lol.

I am sure you will be able to do more than just one pull up down the road.

@Newme17 It has taken awhile for me to get used to the whole sculpting the body then losing the weight on the scale. I am just happy that changes are happening. Although they maybe slow, it has been a fun journey and I want to be strong.

  6. I don't have time for a website lol. I document everything on my FB pages. My surgery is February 19th. I put a deadline to everybody who wants to hire me to put together a remix package for their single or want me to promote an upcoming single that I will be out of the office because I am getting Bariatric surgery and plan accordingly. I am in a business (the music business) where part of it is looks. I am 350 lbs. I don't fit in. I also own news radio stations. It was a journey for me to get approved for surgery and I documented it to show people the problems of the health care system. I am using my surgery to educate others. I used to hide and nobody knew what I looked like because I am fat and I don't want my fatness to hurt my artists. Now I am using this to educate others.
  7. My boss has put a new ID photo on the work wall ... now six months and 34kg (77 pounds) (5.5 stones) lighter. My five year D/L renews in 2020 ... so RMS will tale a new photo then. Passport due for upgrade in 2027 ... maybe a new photo then. I was a Y wedding ring and now it slips off or falls off. I don't wear it to the pool for my exercise any more. I told my wife I'd get it adjusted before our next anniversary. (Dec 2018).

    Hello

Hi everyone, I’m 20 years old and I’m having VSG 1/30/2018 at the Cleveland Clinic bariatric and metabolic institute. I started my 2 week liquid diet the 16th and so far it has proven difficult :/ My HW: 220 my CW: 210! Is anyone else getting sleeved the 30th (: I also have an Instagram account @heyitskay.vsg if anyone else in the community has an Instagram
  9. I take the chewy bites from bariatric advantage. I prefer the fruit flavors so far. SF Bay area - RNY 1/17/18

    Insurance

It really depends upon the insurance company. I had insurance that would only allow patients to go to a Bariatric Hospital of Excellence, while others don't have that requirement. When I started the WLS journey, I was around the same BMI with hypertension and sleep apnea.

    LapBand Removal Needed

I need this POS out of me. Are there any Bariatric surgeons around Austin, TX that will remove It? I have zero interest in replacing it with any other surgical option. Just take the bedeviled thing OUT. 9 years of steadily increasing misery, plus other health issues, it needs to go and I am at my wits end. ejldnewsom

    Does Everyone Have Problems

Patients post for lots of reasons. Some want to run what they're experiencing by other people who have gone through the process and others want to share their progress and/or success. I'm happy to hear nothing has gone wrong for you. My surgeon said that it's 50/50 - some patients go through surgery and post-surgery with ease and some don't. Those who don't may have vomiting, extreme nausea, and may express higher levels of pain. Some have an easier time with the diet progression and some don't. I'd say you're lucky. Best wishes as you continue on your Bariatric adventure. You're first pick won. I'm rooting for Minnesota too. Fingers crossed.
  13. Welcome from another future RnYer, my date with destiny should be early to Mid March. If you want to ask anything or just need a friend here I am. Think currently I'm the oldest person on Bariatric Pal but like all the rest: I'm in It to win It! Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app
  14. @ TinaM8 do you know what happened? Now this was told to me by someone "in the know", it's due to the Affordable Care Act, once insurance companies were forced to cover maternity care they had to also cover Bariatrics A lot of them aren't overjoyed so thats why we have 3,6 or even 12 month restrictions, silly cause in the long run the client is more healthy so they would save money. My view on life insurance, you're betting you need it, the insurance company bets you don't, if you win this agreement you're dead and can't enjoy the win. 15. My Bariatric Solutions Dr. Heath Smith did mine in Decatur/Fort Worth, Texas. My insurance doesn't cover bariatric services. I paid $8500 for mine. He is amazing!!!!!! You get a full support system too with a nurse, nutritionist and exercise specialist. I highly recommend him!! My surgery was September 26, 2017. I had gastric sleeve and a hernia repair. Day of surgery weight: 320 Highest weight: 325 Current weight: 241 Height: 5'11" When I started I was in size 2xl. I went shopping today large size 11/12.
  16. I’m with NY Bariatric Group, Dr. Holiver. According to his bio, it looks like he was an early pioneer in sleeve surgery. Haven’t had my surgery yet but for the most part the experience has been good. All my insurance requirements were approved last week and I’m hoping for a mid March surgery date and would love feedback from anyone who has also used this group.

    Slow metabolism?

Weight Loss was always hard on my own. I struggled with weight loss for years. I needed something that would work long term Like @Losebig check to see if its a medical reason with your Dr. Yes, you will lose weight with the sleeve. Bariatrics is more than calorie restriction. You have to eat your meal plan (high protein and low carb) and exercise. Are you using paper or an App to track your food? Drinking lots of water? walking/exercise? Are you eating high protein and low carb?
  18. I'll be three years out this upcoming April... I didn't resume my coffee habit until 2 months out. Drinking coffee too soon post-op can result in discomfort and other side effects due to its high acidity. You're only a few days out. http://www.laparoscopic.md/questions/coffee-safe-drink-after-bariatric-surgery I drink at least four cups of coffee daily without any ill effects. Your mileage may vary. Good luck to you.
  19. @sonyawon did you see awhile back there was someone from Bowling Green on Bariatric Pal, she was looking for an alternative hospital cause she couldn't afford what was quoted in Bowling Green and Toledo, was d something, actual name escapes me. Keeping breakfast interesting

Just found a fun site for bariatric recipes, actually. There are some fun breakfasts here:) https://www.bariatricfoodie.com/recipe-index/ My go-to breakfast when I don't have time to cook is half a Premiere protein caramel shake in a big mug of coffee with a wasa toast smeared with a tablespoon of peanut butter. Cottage cheese is breakfast worthy. With a little fruit or salsa, it gets the protein grams in. I'm a huge fan of no-sugar maple oatmeal packets with a few almonds or pecans, too.

Required time to get surgery scheduled

Quickest I've seen so far is month, a lot of people up to a year, depends on whether you're self pay or relying on insurance, what pre requirements your surgeon has. They will want to make sure you realize what a lifestyle change it is, how committed you are, it's not the easy way out,you know. I'm not young any longer RnY works the best for me but if I were in my 20,30 or even 40 the advice might be a sleeve gastronomy. Explore your options, learn as much as you can, do you have any friends, family or even acquaintances who have had WLS, be your own advocate as much as possible. I've only been on Bariatric Pal 2-3 months but I've learned so much from the vetran posters here. I'm satisfied I'm ready for what ever may come. My surgery will be 50 miles from where I live, would not want to travel to Mexico, if that's your thing then go for it, I just prefer my surgeon to be fairly near in case anything goes wrong with my recovery. At any rate thank you for the question and I hope I helped a little. Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app
  22. My main support is my son the TomKITTEN, he is incredibly supportive and proud of Me for making it thus far. I'm widowed, my late husband would not have been which is another reason I never had it at a younger age plus I was resigned, there was no hope and that gradually everything would break down until I died. Another cheerleader: my PCP, yeah when I approached him about it he said it would be a GOOD thing, gave me advice about where would the best program would be, I'm going to Columbus 50 miles away, every time I see him he wants an update. I tell most people if they ask but try not to bore the average man on the street. Finally told my daughter, we're not too close by her choice, did it matter to her, not especially, she is a self-centered 49 year old brat. Not my fault, her 2 grandmothers competed and spoiled her. Now she is not happy God doesn't ask her permission for the sun to come up each day. Down deep I do still love her, she was after all my first born and the only child for 7 years until her siblings came along. When I told her she just turned the subject back to herself, Well if anything bad happens to me and, mind you I don't expect it to,, she can go around and tell people it was all my fault. Sorry folks, it's rough to love someone and not like them. But as I get closer and closer to surgery time I'm not scared, I only pray my surgeon won't back out at the last minute. I'm having a RnY for multiple reasons and firmly believe it will be the tool to effect a change in my life. I love meeting all of you here on Bariatric Pal and hope to pay it forward for others. Your friend in Central Ohio. ME Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app

Lost 110lbs since 8/15/17 and not doin well

Let's look at one thing at time. First off, you need to get to the bottom of the issue. Don't wait on the bariatric surgeon as you have stated that he is contradicting your primary care doctor. When two doctors don't agree, it's time to go to a specialist and get another opinion. I know you are seeking a remedy for your current situation but this is going to take time and persistence. I would advise seeking out a specialist that is employed by a major, respected healthcare system. If you have to go out of state to do it, then do it. This is the sad story of healthcare in America. Not only must you fight to get better, you must fight the system that is supposedly helping you to get better. The specialist's diagnosis will most likely override both your primary care and surgeon's diagnoses. Now, while you are doing this you need to take some form of action against the surgeon because it is absolutely unethical for him to behave the way he has. Your bariatric surgeon has a responsibility to you for some ongoing, post-surgical care. If were you, I would reach out to him, firmly remind him of his or her responsibility, and if they continue to neglect it, I would look for an attorney. This is a serious situation that is not to be taken lightly - your quality of life hangs in the balance. Sometimes it takes that kind of measure to end the hubris of a doctor. When their livelihood hangs in the balance, it becomes a whole different ball of wax.
  24. I take the Bariatric Fusion chewable and the B12 complex from them as well. 4 multivitamin and 1 b12. At first I was told to take 2 multivitamins in the Am and 2 in the pm, but that upset my stomach. So my doctor said to take one 4 times a day. That helped! Maybe try taking half then wait a little and take the other half.
  25. Hi. I’m at my wit’s end. I track my food religiously on my app and consume between 1100 and 1300/day. Usually 1100. I cannot lose weight. I’m considering gastric sleeve. If bariatric surgery is about calorie restriction and I’m already restricting my calories, will this work? My BMI is within the obesity range. Thanks...
