  1. Amieru, congrats on all your fun NSV stuff. How great to be able to enjoy the rides, go to the cave, etc. I had Lasik done about 9 years ago and I totally agree with you. To be able to wake up in the morning and see the clock without groping for my glasses . . . to be able to go to a swimming pool and actually see who is next to me in the water . . . Congratulations! You'll love it. And how fun to have a free trip to look forward to for your bandiversary! YAY!!!
  2. Southerngirl: "Not being able to tie my shoes without an act of Congress" I hear you there --- my shoelaces ALWAYS seem to come open when I go for walks - and I'd look for something to prop my foot up to retie. NSV noted last week: I can bend over and tie my shoe now, without feeling like I'm going to pass out! :-)

    It's the Strangest Thing...

hi all, went to the beach today and i felt so much more comfortable walking thru the sand! it wasn't as hard as it used to be. and my bath suit still fits but there's plenty of room in there and not that long ago i was busting out of it! it was hot but i wasn't sweating profusely like i used to. all NSV's! oh, we ate at a seafood place and i used to just love fried clams (well yes i still do and i did feel envious a little). but i was also sickened by the HEAPS of fried food that the people around me were eating! i would have liked 1 fried clam at least but i had a small lobster bisque (not low fat i know - but pureed and a small portion and indeed very good!). from this new perspective, i can definately see why obesity is such an epidemic! if i can survive just fine on this small amount of food - it shows we clearly do not need such volume and thus we are overeating oursevles to death. i think this now even tho i thought my portion choices before surgery were usually moderate and appropriate. interesting to hear others saying similar things - about how they feel seeing others eat 'regular' portions of food!
  4. I just love old people like that! Cute as a button, funny as all get out and just full of great stories! I hope to be one of those guys one day! OH, I mean girls! Yikes! That was a scary thought! We are very much alike! AND I love it! Hey, I had some NSV's this week! Things only women would appreciate! Can't share here, cuz we are on a G rated forum, but I think you all can figure them out if you wanna! Hugs Twinie! dee

    Non-Scale Victories!!

Welllll . . . I went shopping yesterday. To summarize my closets: I only have one pair of size 14 jeans and a pair of size 14 black slacks (and a bunch of skirts because size isn't as important for certain types of skirts). I have a few things in size 16 but they are giving me the saggy butt look and the waist is very open. I don't have to unbutton them to get them over my hips, just a little tug will do. I have a million things in sizes 18, 20 and even, woe is me, size 22. I look really comical in a size 22 right now. Shirts aren't so much of a problem, I have tons in different sizes. Well, I thought I need at least one more pair of pants because I keep wearing the same things over and over and over again for pants and am constantly washing clothes. So I pulled a few pairs of jeans of the rack, and I noticed some 12 P's and I thought, what the hay, I can try them on, right. It is not a crime to see if I can button them when I am just seeing how much further I have to go before I can . . . and guess what. Not only could I button them, but I could button every one of the 4 different pairs of size 12 petite jeans that I tried. I moved another size and didn't even realize it. About half the pants looked flattering and the other half gave me the oh so sexy and flattering muffin top roll that I see so many young girls sporting today :0). Needless to say, I passed on the muffin top pants and am wearing a somewhat form fitting but reasonable looking pair of SIZE 12 JEANNSSS. What is even more shocking to me is the thought of what is coming next down the road, isn't a size 10 squarely in the realm of a reasonable, normal size that I can be proud of??? So, what a journey . . . moving from xxl slowly to xl a little faster to a large and, omg . . . can that actually be medium approaching??? Anyway, I am feeling really good in my jeans today which is a great nsv for me.
  6. Hiya girls! What a day!!! Check in has officially begun, the sea of RV's and stock trailers goes on forever!!!! But the excitement is infectuous!! The kids are for the most part, great kids! I had some really HAPPY people with the housing situation, and I got the local Ford, Chevy, Dodge, and Toyota dealers to do some loaners----Once one was in all were in!!! Competition is wonderful!!! Anyway, we were able to accomodate everyones needs so far. Actually spent an hour at the ER. One of the contestants Moms was getting out of the truck and the door closed on her leg, and she needed 7 stitches in it! I took her over, really nice lady. I remembered just before we left, to have my friend Bev, be sure she knew the son, and that they could call my cell---and he did 3 times!!! She is back out there, and going to be fine! It is ALWAYS something! Part of me really hates leaving right now....the other part of me knows if I don't I will be burnt out before my part even begins!!! So we are leaving in the morning. I think I have everything ready. Terry, Abbey has a placental tear. It is not an abruption, it is not pulling away from the uterine wall, and it is not in the area of umbilical attachment. It is just a tear of the placenta. When it first happened, she had a lot of bright red bleeding. They were able to pick up the heartbeat, without a problem so they sent her to ultrasound, and the baby did not seem to be in any distress. So slowly the bleeding eased, and just stayed a spotty dark brown old blood, he said there was a hematoma---a bruise--where the tear was so the old blood would drain off. Well everytime she does anything, the bleeding resumes. They use the doplar and are able to get the heartbeat each time with no problem, they do not want to ultrasound again for 5 weeks! They said the ultrasound bounces sound waves off of the placenta, and could further damage it. So now she is on strict and total bedrest. He said if they can get the placenta to heal, and stay healed she will not have any problems. If it keeps tearing, it will eventually become a big enough tear it will abrupt and bleed out completely which will deprive the baby, and she will have a mid term miscarriage. She is 13.4 weeks along. This is usually not an issue after the first trimester, but for her it continues to nag along. Needless to say everytime she sees red blood she goes into a panic. She was so thrilled about the pregnancy, and went through the first part so easily, not any morning sickness, or anything....this happen, and they do not know why, she did not fall, or lift anything---they have no idea. NSV.....this morning checking in kids, a friend of mine come up and we were visiting, she was with her sister, who I know, just not as well. All of a sudden the sister says "Oh my Gosh! I just realized who you were, or are!" She said she was off in space in her head counting stalls, and knew Twila was chatting with someone she knew, it just didn't click it was someone she knew too! I had not seen her since before banding!!! Was kinda nice!! The NHSFR was here 4 years ago....so I met some of the stock suppliers, and vendors and all back then, I have had some seriously shocked people today. Made me feel like a million bucks, despite the fact my left side continues to swell! Great bags Michelle, I loved the one you were working on in the car on our trip! All you creative Violets....then there is me!!! Well, I am off to fold another load of laundry. Got the house all cleaned and ready to leave. Where we are going is under a flood watch right now......might be an interesting trip!!! Kat

    March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

Well, I made it to support group and weigh in today. I knew it wouldn't be that great since I have been stuck for a while, but I at least lost 7.5 (yes the .5 matters) since last month. It is feeling very slow when I compare to some of you, so I will not compare! I also know I am slowly getting closer to the last part of this - today when they asked how far away from goal we were. I had to think about it, but it was really strange to say 35 pounds. I was also getting closer to making an appointment for a fill. Yes, I might actually get over those fears yet. But then people started talking about how often they get stuck, PB, slime - mind you happily talk about it - and I decided I could wait a bit longer. Sometimes I do worry if a few people have traded one eating issue for another... When I walked in the meeting, I was feeling so good in my new, well-fitting clothes. Then a women who was at the meeting just to gather information asked me if I had had the lap band surgery yet. I think that is what they call a Non-NSV...
  10. Those are cute bags Michelle!! NSV...hmmmm, I can still see my feet...does that count?
  11. I know it is not possible, but the scale shows that I have gained 14 pounds since last Friday? I am seriously retaining water, but... Sooo no nsv here........... I get my fill a week from tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!! My Dr. will FREAK if my weight is still that high!!!!! Oh well. Judy the outfits are soo cute!! My computer is acting funny, couldn't get on last night and seemed to fight with it this morning to get on. Don't know what the problem is. My laptop broke yesterday, don't know if I am getting it fixed or not. Have a good day everyone!!!
  12. Uh Terry? That's EXACTLY the point... a NON SCALE Victory... no scale involved!! C'mon... there's gotta be SOMETHING... Yay TracyKS!! That certainly IS an NSV!! Hey gals... remember that market bag that I was knitting in TX?... well, I've made up 6 different ones (different color combos of the varigated yarn) and I'm going to take them around to some shops downtown this afternoon & see if I can get some orders for them to sell! OMG, just typing that gives me butterflies in my tummy! But everyone keeps telling me to try, so... I guess we'll see!!
  13. Denise: Prayers for your daughter! Michelle: THAT IS GREAT!!!!!!! Terry: I can not believe I weigh LESS THAN YOU! Suzie: Does a pool boy come with?? TracyK: YEEEHAWWWWWW!!!!!!! Shrinkin' Violets- Part 2 Read Here

Sorry Michelle -- I have NO NSV for you today. I weighed 183.4 this morning and not feeling too keen about it. I AM happy for you, however!! Back when I was skinny (after Atkins and 158#), DH and I used to play tennis. I loved it! Go with it and have fun!!
  15. Good Thurs Morn, Vi's~~ It's only 9:29am and I've already had an AMAZING NSV!! DS and I purchased cheap-o tennis racquets & a bag o' balls yesterday and this morning he woke me up & we went down to the park and "played" tennis for an hour!! AND... he was actually impressed that I knew what I was doing and could hit the ball (me, too, come to think of it!!)!! I had sweat pouring... & I *hate* sweating!... but I liked it!! It's been YEARS since I've hit a ball... and I realized that a year or so ago I wouldn't have been able to do that... and I was happy & proud & MOTIVATED to CONTINUE the journey that I've been "pit-stopped" on for awhile now. Everyone think of at least one NSV for this moment... c'mon, you can do it!! & share w/the group.

Tell us about your summer NSVs

This is a winter NSV, not a summer one, coz I'm on the upside down half of the world, hehe, but it gave me a thrill. I WOWED my brother at bridge on Sunday. We play bridge every 2nd week, so he has been watching my progress and has been very supportive and complimentary all the way through. However, on Saturday, I went shopping for the first time since the operation (huge sale on at one of my favourite shops) and I bought a heap of stuff. I knew it was nice and I looked good but I truly wasn't expecting his reaction when I walked into the bridge club. His jaw dropped and he was just about speechless for ages - just kept saying "WOW!! You're looking so GOOD!!" Talk about an ego boost! I think it was a combination of a really cute outfit in a colour that really suited me and wearing clothes that actually fitted nicely instead of hanging off all loose and sloppy. In case anyone is interested, the outfit was a pale pink long sleeved t-shirt with a built-in mock white blouse beneath (collar and cuffs), straightleg blue jeans and black boots. They were in an AUS size 18, which is 14 in US sizes, so I was doubly stoked about that bit, having come down from an AUS size 24-26 (US 20-22). Yay for sweetheart brothers!

NSV Thread for the May Bandsters!

Hey? Where is everybody with their NSV's? I have been sooooooooo busy but I had an NSV today and I wanted to share!! I had to buy size 22 jeans the last time I bought jeans because my old ones didn't fit. But they were so cute that I wanted to keep them. Well today before I got in the shower I thought, I wonder how far up my thighs those old jeans can come? My 22 jeans are baggy in the bottom. So...I put on the old jeans (tight/stretchy size 20 but fit like an 18)......and they fit!!! They fit better than the last time I could wear them! I can sit, stand, and bend comfortably in them! Also - I have to buy new pants for work. I usually keep 2 pairs of black slacks but now they are both too big! I have to put safety pins in 1 pair and luckily the other pair is drawstring. Today when I got home, the regular pair I was able to take off without undoing a button or the zipper!! I am happy! This is real important to me because the scale has been stagnant.....hope everyone is doing well!
  20. I'm on vacation this week, and when we were walking through Sea World today, I was carrying my 31 pound 2-year-old nephew. He was getting very heavy and didn't want me to put him down and didn't want anyone else to carry him. Suddenly I had the thought that I used to be carrying around that much weight plus about 20 pounds. That made me very happy about my progress and reminded me of how much better I feel without that extra weight. That was a great NSV moment! And, it gave me the momentum to keep going. So, what analogy can you use to really make your weight loss come to life?

    Daily News!

I had Pasta today. I didn't feel v. full or ill but I have worked hard to avoid wheat flour and other bad carbs and I did up right today. A piece of cookie cake in the afternoon. It was a really nice woman from work's b-day and another woman made an Italian feast. I normally don't like Italian but it was good. On the bright side I did get enough Protein with two turkey meatballs and some shrimp. I also avoided the alfredo sauce (easy because I don't like it) and the bread (easy because I was afraid it would get stuck). Somebody was taking pictures and it wasn't a very full plate of all, I was just a little dissapointed with myself. But on the other hand I didn't eat myself sick or go back for seconds. But the sad thing is if I was going to eat pasta I would have just preferred some plain old macaroni with a bit of butter. Ahhhh the fat girls comfort food - am I alone sisters? Somehow I doubt it! If nothing else I am feeling more satisfied with my meals and the hunger is tolerable versus the pre-band painful hunger. Long may it last. OK and one last little whine. I am feeling like major crap. The company who we have our insurance through makes us use crappy Medco for meds we take longer than three months. I send my order in last Monday but it didn't get shipped til Saturday so I ran out of my Cymbalta. Now I don't take it and not need it! I am already feeling crappy and on the verge of tears. I am praying it arrives tomorrow. Off to take some benadryl or something to get a nice sound sleep. I am super irritable. Cathy - you are lucky to not still be zombified. With the CPAP I am still sleepy. Without it, forget it, I feel sick the next day. PLEASE GOD we get off them soon. It is so hard to feel sexy wearing that thing and never mind spontaneous sex, I miss spontaneous napping. Sleep apnea was the final straw in realizing what a mess I'd become and needed this surgery. Also I get puffy when I eat carbs it seems. Been eating anything different. My ankles were puffy today after the pasta. Going to see my GP tomorrow. Wish me luck! Hopefully I will get some good news from her since my scale is wonky and I am not sure how much weight I have lost. Oh and here is a TMI NSV I have to share. I am wearing a sort of silky short sleeve dress shirt. I had pretty much quit wearing it because I just sweated too much in it and would have sweat marks in my arm pits no matter how much anti-p I put on. Well ladies, no sweaty pits for me today :huh2: Sorry if I grossed you out but I can't be the only here with a similar problem, especially amongst us Texas folks in the summer time.
  23. Good for you! It's interesting how you can find an NSV in a hospital stay.

    NSV (Non Scale Victories)

Whos, those are great, congrats!! I’ve got a great NSV to share…<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> This morning I was in such a crabby mood. However a few weeks ago I placed an <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:place w:st="on">AVON</st1:place> order for the cutest shoes Id seen in a long time. Well, when I came into work, my friend had them there waiting for me.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> I ordered all size 9M. Now during this time I was kinda sweating it because I used to only be able to wear size 10WW. Yeah, fat feet there… anyway – I knew I was able to wear some 9M’s lately, because I’m a shoe fanatic and I love to go shoe shopping.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> I was so worried my shoes would not fit! I guess that is the fat girl in me telling me I'm still too big for this or that. Well guess what, every single pair DID FIT!! Especially the cute red heels that I just cant wait now to buy a whole new outfit for so I’ll be able to wear them!<o:p></o:p>
