  1. Not eating while drinking was very hard for me to get used to. My dr told me that i had to wait 1 to 1 & 1/2 hours after eating to be able to drink. When I first started, I would simply not pour myself a glass of anything. I would eat, and then set an alarm (or tell my husband if I was home with him) for 1 & 1/2 hours. I would do anything and everything to keep distracted during that time. Then when the alarm went off(or my husband told me it was time), I would drink all I wanted. After a couple of weeks of that, my body became very used to it. I can now tell by the way my body feels that it is time to drink. And for those of us who are overweight, we have spend a life time "washing down" more food than we needed, so this is a habit that we need to break. You will feel full longer, and for a while, until you are used to it, you might be a little uncomfortable.
  2. I don't believe that is a sign you have overeaten either. Full, yes. I also sneeze. 7-8 times!!!! Always have since the beginning. 3 years out.
  3. Sooo delicious and juicy.. Each serving has approximately 77 calories, 4 grams of fat, 5 carbs and 6 grams of protein. 1/2 pound ground beef (i used 80% lean) 1/2 cup parmesan cheese, 1/2 cup tomato sauce (homemade or low/no sugar) onion powder and garlic powder to taste. place in mini muffin pans bake 350 about 15 minutes.....while cooking,, I used box of idaho mashed potato flakes (omit if avoiding carbs all together) and only mixed it with chicken buillion powder and water. Put 1 tablespoon on each mini cupcake...top with a drizzle of tomato sauce when cooked... so delicious I ate 3 for dinner.. perfect size
  4. I'm 3 weeks post op and I haven't lost any weight in 5 days. In fact I gained a pound. Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App

    April 8 is the day!

yes, I've stated my liqid diet 3/11. I'ts a 28 day liquid diet and I have to admit I have had some weak moments but have managed to be strong. Have you started? Where are you getting yours done? I'm getting mine in San Diego CA.
  6. Is that possible!? I do not feel as if my lap-band has worked...EVER! I am almost 9 months post-op and have never once vomited, gotten food stuck or even felt any type of restriction. I lost 40 lbs from pre-op liquid diet through 3 months post-op and have put 20 lbs back on. All as a result of the prescribed diet, not because I ever really felt full or over-full. My band has 9cc's in it now and I can eat a large, pre-op-type meal. I have spoken with my doctor and he doesn't seem to get it. I don't understand how this is possible. Anybody ever hear of this or know what could be wrong? I am afraid of being that girl who had weight-loss surgery and is still fat!
  7. I am 36 weeks today and have gained about 4 pounds. My OB told me I didn't need to get unfilled and could even get more fill if it helped me regulate my weight and the baby was growing well. I had very little restriction at the beginning of the pregnancy but now I am pretty restricted. Everything is going great, though, so I do not plan to unfill.
  8. I am astounded at how many bandsters have gained so little weight during pregnancy. Well, I can tell you that for me, the lap band has been no match for pregnancy hormones which have kept me eating constantly up until this point (14 weeks). I have definitely gained a good amount of weight already and I still have my fill. I don't have much restriction although you'd think I would. Still, I don't want to develop a complex about it, so I'm trying not to make it a big deal. I am eating out of genuine physical hunger, not for emotional issues (which was the cause of my weight problems before)-- so I believe in doing what my body tells me to do. I know that after my pregnancy, when all these hormones are out of my system and I have my normal energy back, I'll be back on track eating my tiny meals and working out like crazy. But I just refuse to obsess about weightloss/weight gain during pregnancy.

    Day 18 of plateau

Sorry you are feeling down. Fast food was a real dowfall for me too. I was pretty good at not buying junk at the store, but would go out for fast food instead of eating the healthy stuff I bought. I find since I haven't had it in so long, I don't miss it very much. I would just go cold turkey and break the habit. Just tell yourself fast food is not an option for you. That's what I did anyway. Also, are you excersising? It has so many benefits, just one being weight loss. It's tough to start, but it will become a matter of routine. It took me about 4 months post op to hit the gym. Now I go about 5 days a week. Good luck, you can do it!
  10. OK, so I have been promising you guys for WEEKS now that I would get this info out for you and I'm really sorry it took so long, but I finally got it! I used to use this stuff ALL THE TIME (years back) for making my hair and nails long & beautiful. I was happy because i could stop going to the nail salon to try to fix my otherwise horrendous nails. It helps for a lot of things but mostly for the growth in hair and nails. I stopped buying it for a while when we were stuggling financially at a time, but now that I am losing my hair due to the surgery, I know its worth it again to just suck it up and buy the stuff! *** Ok so you just gotta go to the link below and Sign in/Join (don't worry peeps it's free ) and then it will send you to the page where you can buy it at....Just click "add to cart" then click "buy" and it will send you to the next step where you add in your shipping address, etc.... IF anyone happens to have any problems navigating the site, just let me know... Oh and also, if you would like a discount, try putting my member code in after you join... Join yourself first and if it asks, put in my code which is A4C and see if that works. You should be able to get like a $12.00 discount or something like that. I haven't tried it before, so unsure. or call this number.... 866-639-3143 :Banane35:
  11. Glad your psych was receptive and supportive. I'd advise you to be very mindful of who else you tell; even "friends" can misunderstand, judge, criticize and not get it. Not everyone needs to know. Not that you're ashamed, but again, not all of your personal life choices is for public consumption. Enjoy your journey. The VSG is still the best thing I've done for myself...and only 3 of my closest friends know I did it.
  12. I had the same issue and still get it sometimes if I eat or drink to fast, mine is followed by sliming which makes it hurt more. We went away this weekend and it was rough but I know it will pass. Believe me it gets better in a few weeks. 50 lbs down 1 month out
  13. TMorgan, Walking is the best thing you can do and it will pay huge benefits as you continue. I couldn't walk from the car to my front door without being winded pre-op and now I'm walking to and from the gym for my daily workout, plus spending my 30 minutes on the bike while I'm there! It ALL adds up as you continue to work and pushing yourself a little more each day is NOT a bad thing. So my new workout routine is walk .7 mile, exercise bike for 30 minutes, walk .7 mile, weights (high reps, low weight), then a shower. If you had told me at 2 weeks post-op I'd be doing all of this willingly, I'd have told you that you were nuts, yet here I am... and I started exactly where you're at with walking as much as I could handle.

How to get over being head hungry

It will get much easier once your body starts to wean itself off the foods you were eating and you get used to eating differently. Head hunger will always likely be an issue but not like the first week. For me it comes and goes occasionally, especially if I'm doing something that triggers me to want to eat like watching tv, playing video games or working on the computer. I have to be careful about triggers and avoid them. Otherwise head hunger galore.

    Pre-Op Diet Question

I am surprised your doctor suggested Slim Fast because of the high sugar/carb count. my pre-op diet was Protein shakes that have 25gm of protein and less than 15 gm of carbs. You need to find a Protein shake mix that you like because they're going to be your friend for a long time into the future. You have to get 70 gm of protein a day and that is hard to do when you can't eat alot of food. Granted, cottage cheese, fish, Beans, etc have a lot of protein but when you're only eating 2-3 oz (this is when you get back on real food) it's hard to get to 70 without a protein shake or two during the day. Seriously, I would avoid slim fast or any of the pre-made shakes simply due to their sugar content. The sooner you can get sugar out of your system the better. I thought I would starve to death on my pre-op diet but after day 4 or 5, it got easier and my cravings subsided. Just my opinion but do some research on your own. So my preop diet is set to begin on February 14, 2011 and my doctor has asked me to do slimfast however, I am confused about whether i should be just drinking the 4-6 shakes period or this new 3 Snacks, 2 shakes, 1 light meal diet slimfast is currently promoting...can anyone help me with this? Thanks.

    **snow** Finally!

Here it is 10:00 p.m. and it is still coming down like crazy. We have over 3 feet now. It just wont stop!! At this rate I wont be going to work on Monday! (I can pray) I saw on the news tonight that they are getting snow in parts of the Valley (Phoenix) Hey Jenna are you getting snow?
  17. I am only 3 weeks banded and do not have any restriction issues with liquids... can easily drink the 11oz packaged protein shakes. I only had trouble the first few days due to the gas from surgery, and now I actually feel much better if I have several 8-12oz drinks (all sugar free or protein shakes that are low carb) per day in addition to one small meal. It's great that you want to drink water, to stay hydrated, and it also helps you feel less hungry. I also like sugar free popcicles and jello to feel like I've had something and shouldn't be hungry.
  18. so hard to stay motivated when your exercising 5 days a week but the scale shows no progress. No I haven't measured myself at all, I know I need to do that but I haven't. Just got to keep pushing myself and not give up. I went through that surgery to succeed not to give up..
  19. I onlyweigh myself on Sunday morning. It would drive me nuts doing it every few days. My suggestion would be to weigh yourself just once a week. Good luck!
  20. Can anyone give me advice, I keep going from 167lbs and then Sat. I was 164lbs but then today back up again to 167lbs, this has been going on for 2wks now. I am 7wks post op, and I am exercising 5 days a week, can anyone give me any ideas on how to get out of this rut? I want to get back to losing at least 2lbs a week if possible. The last two days I have def. over done the eating but am still exercising. I am back on track today.:scared2:
  21. OMG you and I are in the exact same boat (even with the number!) I was so psyched when I saw 163 on Saturday now today I am again 164 (this is after last week going from 165, 164, 166, 164). I have no idea what the heck is going on either. The only thing I can think of is Water, so I'm going to drink 3 gallons today LOL. I'll be checking this thread to see what kind of responses you get. It's COMPLETELY FRUSTRATING, isn't it?!?
  22. Hi everyone, I am three weeks post op and wondering when the nausea after eating or drinking will go away. I am only eating one, maybe two bites over a 20-30 min period and I feel soooo full and nauseous. Even drinking makes me overly full. I just wish I could drink some water and not feel like I am going to throw up. I'm having a little buyers remorse here. On a positive note I have lost 30lbs!!! Yay!

    Had a rough night

I'm 1 week post op today. When eating dinner I think I ate too fast or maybe even didn't chew enough. I think a bite got stuck a little... I could feel it and it hurt really bad. I've never felt such pain... I tried to throw up and couldn't but need to do something so I stretched and wiggled a bit and the pain went away. Anyone experience this?
  25. I too went through all of these things. I am a big fan of Mexican food and went out and got it everyday for a freaking month beofre surgery..i told myself well if its on a taco salad haha I think we are genetically programmed to swallow food whole. People rearely chew. I still to this day have to mentally kick myself sometimes if I dont chew enough..you would think Id learn but Im pretty stubborn. For the fiirst month or so Id have to count my chews per bite..it was pretty interesting. Ive also learned to cope with my cravings. Now ifI want Mexican, I go eat Mexican, but instead of eaing the chips like they are the last food on earth, I eat one chip at a time, broken into small pieces in my hands and well chewed. Doing this keeps me busy instead of drooling at the chips, and it also stops people from bugging me about why Im not eating. Then I order whatever I am craving with the knowledge that they DO have these lil styrofoam containers to take food home in, theres no clean your plate rule. In doing this, I have several meals, and I dont feel deprived. Plus just about anything from a mexican place can be crushed ontop of a salad and BAM Taco Salad I still feel weird about how little I eat. At thanksgiving, I had a little desert plate to put my food on, and all I had was greenbean casserole and a piece of turley..and I was groaning with the people who had 3 plates!! Man it felt good. As for exercising, the first couple of months I really didnt do it. But once about 30 or so came off, I realized it was alot easier to exercise, and I didnt hate it as much. Just find something you enjoy. Me, I enjoy kickboxing, so Im going to start a class soon. And I always wanted to do karate, almost done with that class now..up next? Im thinking horseback riding and maybe..just maybe..swimming:faint:I know!Gasp..that requires a bathingsuit! but I used to enjoy it, and so I think Im going to take it up again..although it wouldve been great if I reached this choice BEFORE the dead of winter! Good luck!
