Encouragement needed struggling
HaddocksEyes replied to svelija's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was in your same shoes. I was bad and ate ahead of time prescribed time table. I started the cream based soups and yogurts, etc. about a week early. I had no adverse affects from it so I continued on eating these food items. I was really hungry and they did the trick. -
As part of most 12 step programs you get a chip once you have been clean for 30 days. I am not getting a virtual Lapband chip this month. As part of my pre-op diet with the doctor I am supposed to do protein drinks during the day and 6-8 oz of chicken/fish for dinner. I have been following program (15 days down, 15 to go) until tonight. I did not go crazy, I ate to much chicken, some fat free cottage cheese, three scoops of peanut butter and non-fat chocolate frozen yogurt. It was one of the moments of weakness, we have all had. As I sit here I wonder what would have happened if I had had the band already. Without a doubt, my future Lapband would have provided me with a visceral and direct warning of the folly of gluttony. Apparently, I still have lots of work to do. Alas, tomorrow is a new day to make better choices and start working towards that first 30 day chip.

°Being Moody, is it just me°
rking replied to adcovington87's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Me too!!!! I have felt great till friday. 19 days post op. Now I feel like crap for three days. Lightheaded. Grouchy as hell. Tired of powders. Ugh. Not very hungry. Sick of soup. Sick of yogurt. -
Focus on things that count for both fluids and protein: Protein shakes, protein water, broth with added protein powder, yogurt, etc. That's the best way to hit your numbers in the beginning when you can't get too much down. Good luck!

Haven't "gone" since last Tuesday the day before my surgery. I know I'm not really eating much besides yogurt and soup but isn't this too long?

Normal??? 7 Days Post Op & Starting "mushy" Foods
clarks4willie replied to LaurieBmomof3's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Full liquid in my diet (per surgeon) consist's of any thing that slides off a spoon. Yogurt included. Of course Greek because if high protien. My mushie's start this wednesday !! Thank god:) -
@@traceygirl Try having small servings of protein every 3 hours - 5 to 6 times a day. That could be tuna, chicken salad, hummus, greek yogurt, baked fish, salmon, protein shake, cottage cheese, deli meat etc. Are you on soft foods or can you have anything? Be sure to drink fluids (wait the amount of time your plan suggests after meals). You may want to add some healthy fats (avocado) and carbs (fruits & veggies) to your diet. Check in with your Nutritionist for some guidance too.

Banded nov 3 and serious weight issues!!!
IndioGirl55 replied to sumz30's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
mktzfla So many people want to blame the band for not losing weight - it's not the bands fault it's only a piece of plastic - too bad they can't band our brains cuz thats where the problem lies... We think we are going to just die if we can't have Cookies candies mcdonalds etc. You aren't going to die without these things in your life - you are going to live with out them - eating all that junk was just killing you - ya might have given you some emotional comfort for a moment - but then that turns to guilt - and then you just give up and keep on eating.. I didn't have any holiday treats until I baked xmas cookies w/my grandaughters - i allowed myself 5 cookies - but then i added more exercise to my schedule - I would walk an extra day - and increased my mileage - if I allow myself a treat then I add more exercise.. You will live without eating all those high fat high carb meals and once you get to the right mindset to eat healthy - thats what you will crave. I follow a WW food plan - I get my carbs, meats, veggies and yes sweets (sf pudding & fudgecicles & yogurts) I eat a well balanced menu and I love having the power over the food not the other way around. I am an old fat lady - I know all the excuses as to why we can't do this or that - ya i know it's all b.s. - we can do anything that we put our mind too. Healthy New Years.... -
First day of mushy foods
Bufflehead replied to itzbrittaanyx3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No, it isn't bad at all. Don't push yourself to eat more than you want. 4 oz is a maximum, not a minimum. If I had tried to eat 4 ounces of ricotta cheese on my first day of purees I would have been in extreme agony. I used the wrong measuring spoon accidentally on my second day and ate 2 oz. of Greek yogurt instead of allotted maximum of 1.5 ounces and got the slimies as a result. When you are satisfied, stop! If you get to your allotted maximum of food and don't feel satisfied, stop anyway! Do not try to look for the "full" feeling or eat so much that you irritate your vagus nerve and get something like a runny nose or the hiccups. Stop before you get there. These guidelines will serve you well, I promise. -
First day of mushy foods
Bufflehead replied to itzbrittaanyx3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@nikko9599 the slimies are when your mouth and throat start producing tons of clear slimey liquid like you might do right before you throw up -- but instead of throwing up, you just keep producing slimey fluid. Enough to hack mouthfuls and mouthfuls and gobs and gobs into the nearest toilet. You will also likely feel extremely nauseated, weak, and completely exhausted. It's hard to describe but when it happens to you, you know something is completely wrong and you feel miserable. People tend to get the slimies if they eat too much, too fast, or the wrong texture of food. I only got them twice -- once when I overate the yogurt I mentioned and another time when I stupidly took a mineral supplement pill on an empty stomach. Believe me, when/if it happens to you, you will never want it again! -
Maybe yogurt or homemade sf pudding?

Post-Op meals
mbrinmn replied to 2NewBeginningsxoxo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You'll be surprised that your plate can look like any normal plate of food. However, you will only be able to eat a tiny portion, so have lots of Ziplok bags and storage containers on hand. As I mentioned to another woman on a different message board, I bought a bunch of large Water bottles and cups. I keep them all over the house, practically in every room, including the basement. Every time I get close to one, I take 3 or 4 sips. Unlike others, I have had no terrible issues with dehydration or balancing liquid intake vs. food intake. I do get dry mouth and my skin is dryer than usual, but not too, too bad. My typical day of food looks like: A Protein shake and a 1/2 cup of Greek yogurt with maybe some museli or fruit mixed in. I don't have any hunger pangs at all, so I have to remind myself to eat a decent lunch...proteins first, the good carbs (dark green vegetables), then if there's room left, that where the bad carbs go in (bread, rice, pasta). I usually eat a small type of protein for dinner...a piece of chicken or meatloaf along with some cottage cheese. I eat out all the time and bring home food for 4 more meals. I have treats like Cold Stone Creamery ice cream, but just the baby scoop. I have not had any cravings and I do not miss anything that I thought I'd be sacrificing, like my beloved donuts or things like bread and cake. During this Halloween season, I allow myself one piece of candy from our company candy dish per day, but I don't always feel hungry for candy. I don't miss not having chocolate or sweet things at all. But if there is any around, I don't deny myself a bite. I think a lot of it is mind over matter. You have to really dedicate yourself to using your new tool to most efficient way, otherwise, it's just a waste of major surgery. Also, you'll be amazed at how your new, tiny stomach will be sure to tell you when it is full. Just one bite too much and you'll have a cramp or two to remind you that it's time to stop. Another bite too much and your food come up the same way it went down. There are a lot of excellent cookbooks for people who have had bariatric surgery. I bet you won't every feel hungry or deprived once you get used to your new stomach. -
Update on OCt sleevers.....
lisam1972 replied to ppressey24's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How many times are people eating a day ? Today I've had 1 egg scrambled , yogurt for lunch and having a bowl of homemade Soup for my tea. I have also had 2 small spoonfuls of cottage cheese. I've not lost any weight for 2 weeks and wondering if I'm doing something wrong, am I eating enough ? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Today it will be some seafood (as I love it) - likely 4 large shrimps would pack me full. Pure protein, low fat. Sometimes just a can of zero greek yogurt (around 120 calories with 19g of protein). And finally (I know this is not good anyway, but I can't stand it!) a bottle of organic Ginger Kombucha. It has some natural alcohol and minor natural carbonation, plus it has no protein and have some sugar (just around 5-6g probably), it is still low in calories and I don't think it would harm alot

I'm 10 Days Post Op And Not Sure About Fullness
JustSkinnyMeInside replied to JustSkinnyMeInside's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank u so much!!! I was getting worried because so many others here are having a hard time getting in fluids. And I certainly don't want to stretch my sleeve esp this early on. I was hoping it was just fluids passing through easily. I could never do that with thinned yogurt! Thanks again (-: -

4 days post op and I ate an egg white!
samomom replied to samomom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Its so frustrating that everyone's doctors are telling them different things. I was told shakes, thin juice, broths, strained soups and whatever thin liquids I could down would be fine and then at the end of this week, about now, I could puree some fruit into a shake. Funny how each doctor has a differing opinion on what is safe. I am supposed to be doing the liquid thing for two weeks and then onto light meats like sliced turkey, fish, fruit sauces, yogurts, etc. I'm guilted over the egg now! Trust me, I'm really not trying to sabotage myself after 5 days. I've lost 10 pounds as of this morning and that included two pre op days of just liquids so I'm excited. I had about 6 oz of a shake this morning and some tomato bisque which was awesome. I guess that I need to put my big girl(quickly shrinking!) pants on and suck it up for 9 more days. I think a trip to Macy's this morning to go buy some new pants two sizes smaller for my trips in November will be a motivator. My husband doesn't care if I get the $155 7 For All Mankind jeans as long as they come from the normal sized section of the store. Shop on I say! -
4 days post op and I ate an egg white!
tko7 replied to samomom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon only had me on Clear liquids the first 3 days, then day 4 to 6, regular liquids which included Soups, Protein drinks etc. Then day 6 through day 9, mushy food (scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, mashed potatoes and yogurt). Day 10 on soft foods and steamed veggies, day 14 can attempt regular food but stay away from Pasta, bread etc.. It so strange to me that we are all on such different post op diets. I haven't had any problems except my 3rd day, could not swallow any liquids at all. Called my surgeon, he had me come in and he unfilled my band by 3 1/2 cc's. going in for a fill mid october. When he attaches the band, he fills with 4 cc's - I hadn't even known that... -
Yogurt has alot of protein in it. Diet jello has protein. I am using body fortress chocolate whey, if you use 2 scoops, you get 52 g protein. I make mine with almond milk (much more protein that reg. milk). It does has a lot of carbs, though. I only use a half scoop, because I like to eat my protein rather than drink it. I am sure that will change post-surgery.

Hey OK neighbor! It's like they say, sort of like a new baby's tummy. I still like my milk, yogurt and vitamin water zero as reliable go-to intake. I also puréed Wendy's chili and added plain Greek yogurt, a teaspoon of chopped avocado and a pinch of shredded cheddar in the soft/mushy stage. Still love it and a small order lasts for a couple of days.

My surgery is 06/11 and my pre op instructions were water and yogurt 3 days before surgery. You guys have it way harder than I will... I guess I'm kinda worried if my diet isn't too "light"?
-
Wow! Soft food already. At this point people usually only drink broths Protein Drinks and juices. Mushy foods start in week three. Like yogurt and cottage cheese, fruit, eggs, Jello and pudding, or anything you can blend up or mash to a smooth consistency. Then 2 weeks later starting solids. This is a slow process because of your new sleeve. It needs to heal and no longer be swollen. It takes time and at this stage you could be harming it and could cause a complication. I would back off if I were you and give your sleeve a chance to heal. Believe me you don't want complications like a leak!...K

Mashed Potatoes Made Out Of Caiuliflower
Pebbagirl replied to Nevara's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've never eaten cauliflower either but this DOES sound worth a try. I think I'll try steaming it in chicken broth and then adding some S&P and Greek yogurt. Greek yogurt is a great substitute for sour cream and adds protein. Thanks for this idea! -
I'm supposed to be on clear liquid for a week and then all liquids for another week then pureed food for another week.. I was wondering, since I can't really drink much and I've only been on clear liquids for 4 days, what would happen if I start drinking yogurt 5 days post op? I've noticed some people were on clear liquids for a few days, I've done lots of research and it seems ok.. but I just wanted to get other opinions. Looking for ANY way to get more protein in.. thanks in advance!

My surgeon had me on soft food after 7 days too, and any texture at 6 weeks as long as it is low sugar high Protein (except: no skins on fruit like apples). Understand your surgeon's recommendations clearly. But being allowed to eat something is not the same thing as being comfortable eating something. Just progress as your sleeve allows, within the rules that your surgeon gave you. Once I was allowed soft foods, I did not always eat them - some days just protein shakes and yogurt, especially at first. I am still supposed to have 2 protein shakes a day, so I do. I know other people's NUT teams say no shakes so just follow your team's orders. My surgeon defined soft food as anything that I can cut easily with a fork, so under his rules I was encouraged to eat fish, stewed chicken, ground turkey, cottage cheese, yogurt (especially Greek), eggs, fat free retried Beans. I used my slow cooker and made lots of stews and soups: fish chowder, black bean Soup, Tuscan white bean soup with garlic (yum!), chicken curry not too hot, chili with ground turkey, spaghetti sauce with turkey meatballs but no actual spaghetti. All delish! Also baked or grilled fish. But baked/grilled chicken was too dry for my sleeve - even now if I try it I need a sauce for it. Ground beef or pork were sometimes okay with great caution - harder to digest and can be very fatty if you are not careful about what meat you cook and how you cook it. I went for turkey sausage (including turkey Italian sausage) instead and have avoided beef and pork. I was disappointed that I do to do well with eggs - I made a low fat quiche and The Sleeve did not like it. Ditto for scrambled or fried eggs, and hard boiled eggs were not much better so I think eggs are off the menu for a while for me. There are some great websites with menu ideas - like "bariatriceating" and "the world according to egg face" and 7 Bites Jen's terrific YouTube cooking classes! Proceed very slowly and follow YOUR doctor's rules. But don't be afraid to go back to liquids as required - good luck!
