First 2 weeks after surgery- what are you drinking.. Please Post a full day of what your drinking
BLERDgirl replied to Scottyd1264's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I drank CVS whey Protein mixed with almond milk, ProSource Nocarb mixed in herbal tea or warm Water, Isopure unflavored protein mixed in vegetable broth, water & Kefir yogurt drink. I was on Full liquids. (no clear stage for me). I started the day with the ProSource Nocarb in herbal tea. It's what they gave me to drink in the hospital. Around noon I made a shake with the CVS whey Protein powder and FAGE 0% greek yogurt. Sometimes I added a hand full of spinach or a tbsp of almond butter instead of the yogurt. I blended it in the nutra bullet and thinned with water if necessary. dinner was broth with unflavored protein powder added. It was a nice break from all the sweet stuff. In between I sipped water. Sometimes I had the Kefir as a snack. -
I am ten weeks out and am having a hard time getting 4 ounces of any kind of beef or chicken down. I take two bites and I'm full. If I try to keep eating to get more protein I get sick. Does this get better? I have no problem with yogurt, cheese and shakes.

I usually eat Greek yogurt for breakfast. Today I had taco soup for lunch. Dinner hasn't been planned yet but it will probably be a little chicken and that's it. 3.5 months out. -

I eat shrimp cocktail often. I make my own cocktail sauce using reduced sugar ketchup (had to search for it, but it is usually available in small bottles), horseradish, lemon juice. Just thaw and then serve the shrimp chilled but not frozen. Super easy. My big go-to is chicken salad. I do canned chicken, low fat mayo, green onion and grapes (cut up), with some curry powder and celery seed if I am out of actual celery. I only do about 3-5 grapes depending on size and just cut them up into small pieces, but they add so much flavor along with the curry... makes it taste AMAZING (my husband now requests this in his lunch - so I know it's not just me). Just made a pretty amazing fritatta the other night too. Tasted nice hot, but tasted way better room temp, so we only heated up the leftovers to take the chill off... sooo good! I did sort of a "kitchen sink" version where I threw in grape tomatoes, celery, bacon, onions and green peppers. Then added some cheddar cheese and followed these directions (had to add some cooking time as mine still was REALLY jiggly in the middle at their time, but you want a little jiggle as it continues cooking in cast Iron, but a pie pan would work well too): http://www.epicurious.com/expert-advice/ultimate-easy-frittata-recipe-article And when I'm not feeling like cooking anything, I have morningstar farms sausages or griller patties in the freezer. I love eating the sausage with a scrambled egg, and the grillers are really nice topped with some cheese and a bit of mustard and with onions on the side (I love onions any way you can think of - raw, grilled, caramelized...). I also have a large amount of Kroger's carbmaster line of yogurts in my fridge at all times. They have some nifty flavors and are under 4 carbs I believe with only 60 calories per serving. And I also keep mootopia milk (there is also fairlife milk if you don't have mootopia available) as a fridge staple. I usually just drink that in the mornings for breakfast sometimes. -

how far out are you? I had my sleeve Sept 2 and can basically eat anything I want. at home sometimes I have a vanilla Protein shake with some ice cubes and frozen strawberries lunch, a couple slices of cold cuts and cheese on a few crackers snack, a handful of grape tomatoes dinner some chicken/fish/meat I made an amazing chicken the other day. I used white meat but you can use any kind. I mixed one individual size cup of plain greek yogurt with three finely diced garlic cloves, tsp of salt, tsp of oregano and the juice of half a lemon. Marinade your chicken in t his mixture for 2 to 4 hours and then roast the chicken until it's done. So good! Also if you like salmon I love this simple ceviche recipe, I make this whenever salmon is on sale, I buy half a pound and munch on it all day long. Cut the salmon into bite size pieces, and finely dice half a red onion (you can use less but I like a lot of onion in mine) then mix the salmon and onion with 1/4 cup of fresh lime juice and a tsp of salt. I love the simplenness of this but you can also add diced tomatoes, avocados and capers -
Yes, if you are cleared for "seedy" fruits, I would have the lower sugar fruits if you really want some. I add some raspberries, blueberries or blackberries to my yogurt every so often. So yummy! And I get my fruit fix

First 5 days I lived on Protein shakes, greek yogurt, Cream of rice, home made chicken broth, (frozen into ice cubes for easy storage... do this with all your Soups btw). Only thing I can think that I didn't have was chewable Tylenol. I munched a couple of Tylenol Jrs when needed rather than the narcotic syrup they sent me home with. Just didn't need it and it tends to give me icky tummy on a good day so I skipped it.

@@BobbyD - walmart also carries a greek yogurt in four packs that are 80 calories. Not as many varieties but I love the strawberry cheesecake! You can add Protein to bump up the content, but watch the sugars and calories as well. I was told to try to get single digit grams of sugar or under (1-9 grams) and double digit protein (10 or better)

Yogurt? Greek vs. all others.
Inner Surfer Girl replied to BobbyD's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The difference between regular yogurt and Greek yogurt is the protein content. We need a higher protein to carb ratio than regular yogurt provides. We have to learn to read labels very critically. -
I like the Oikos Triple Zero Greek Yogurt. It has 15g. of Protein and comes in good flavors. Only 120 calories per serving.

you can get flavored greek yogurt. Greek yogurt is recommended because it has more protein -
I was sleeved Nov.18th. My recovery has been steady. I've graduated from pure liquids to soft foods. I was wondering if there is a downside to the more commercially available light yogurts. I get a lot of variety with Yoplait light. Lemon Cream Pie light one day, and banana Cream pie light the next. Key lime pie light and cheesecake light are also tasty. They give me variety and I am eating one to two a day. The thing is, I see everyone recommending plain Greek Yogurt and adding fruit. Seriously, I am in a position where it is difficult to find the time to do the blending in the early afternoons as I am at work. I realize I can adjust if it is important, so therein lies my question. Is it important to do plain greek yogurt and physically blend in the fruit or is Yoplait or a like product acceptable?

Protein Drink witch one
kdelrosso replied to sharoninidaho's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been drinking premier protein. They taste awful BUT have the most protein I have found in a drink. In 1 11oz bottle you get 30g and ideal is 60 to 80g a day. So I drink 2 a day so that gives me 60 and then eat yogurt or soup for any additional. I chase the drink with a sip of water to get the taste out of my mouth. But I would rather only have to drink 2 a day(I'll do 3 once after the surgery) then drink 5 or more with less protein. That's my suggestion hope it helps -
Weight loss on track but I eat a LOT
DavidOso replied to itstimealready's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
EVERYTHING that goes in my mouth gets measured, weighed, or portioned, and then logged in a food journal. i'm 4.5 months post op, and a meal is 2 oz cooked protein and 1/4 c. veggies, maybe 1 T. greek yogurt (as a mayo sub) or salsa. that's 1/2 c., 8-9 T. food TOTAL per meal. i eat 4 meals and have 2 watered down smoothies per day. total fluid intake 80-96 floz. if i have 2.5 oz protein at a meal, i feel full, too full. 3 oz would be like the third plate at thanksgiving. (by the way, i did not miss the gluttony of thanksgiving this year. i had tastes of everything i wanted and that was just right!) if you keep eating like this you will stretch out your pouch or worse, need emergency surgery to repair damage. is that what you really want? -
Why liquids for weeks after surgery? Did anyone cheat ?
tmcx28 replied to Scottyd1264's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What kind of liquids? I'm on liquids but "full liquids" and my surgeon allows blenderized Soups, Greek yogurt, thinned out cream of wheat, etc It is tough, but I'm only 5 days post op so I have no real desire to eat I just do it because I have to. I definitely couldn't cheat, I'm too afraid to damage my new stomach. At this point I've been on this diet for nearly 3 weeks so one more wont kill me. I am pretty excited for scrambled eggs and tuna though! -
If you can't tolerate any shakes, powders or clear Protein drinks then you need to start looking at protein rich foods. Yogurt, thinned with milk if need be, kefir, Beans pureed/strained then thinned with broth, chicken breast poached, pureed then thinned with broth. Spinach added to the beans or chicken (also pureed) will add some protein, Iron and Fiber. If it gets worse, you may need to have your doctor prescribe something for nausea.

Rinse, and dry on paper towels then freeze. Fruit is great to add to smoothies. Just separate them into bariatric serving size portions. Everything I listed will freeze well except apples and watermelon. I was adding fruit to my Protein drinks from week 1. I also like have a small amount of fruit with plain greek yogurt as a snack. If I add a scoop of vanilla Protein powder I'll have it for Breakfast.

I didn't eat fruit (other than avocados) for a few months after surgery -- I was focused on protein, and the carbs were just too high for my plan. Not eating fruit didn't hurt me! I was eventually able to add it back in. Keep in mind that you will be eating very small portions of whatever you are eating. 25 grams of blueberries (a very reasonable amount for a sleever to add to some yogurt) has 2.5 grams of sugar.

New sleevers how are you doing
tmcx28 replied to Joymarie333's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Getting in my Protein is near impossible. It makes me gag. I'm trying to mix vanilla protein in to my vanilla Greek yogurt to get some in but, ugh. I had to stop my pain meds because the taste was making me gag, so now I'm sore and crabby. I got in about 40 oz of fluids in so far today, which is a huge improvement. Earlier today I was worried I'd have to take a trip to the hospital for an IV. I'm pretty sure my veins have shriveled up and died. I've been super weak and fatigued but the gurgling in my stomach is lessening day by day which is making it easier to eat. I had planned on going back to work tomorrow but there's just no way I can do it. I'm so looking forward to puréed foods on the 15th! I knew what to expect before the surgery but man, I had no idea how hard it'd be. Anyone who says this is the easy way out has absolutely no idea how hard it is. -
Revision on 12/1! Very nervous!
liannatx replied to amyg80's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Glad you are doing good! I also felt like my Sleeve was easier recovery than the band... maybe I just knew what to expect. When do you progress to full liquids? I remember that being such a relief... to have thin Soups and yogurt! The liquids get old fast. -
Just got my pre-op date and my surgery date! Eeekkk!
Sun Godess replied to revisedtosleeve's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
kiba78 & banded4change, How exciting we will have ours on the same day! I do my pre op apt with the anesthesiologist on the 10th and will find out my surgery time then. I don't start my pre op diet til the 10th. I did buy everything I will need, so I don't have to worry about anything. I got Vitamins, Protein drinks and powder, etc. My preop consists of Protein Drinks, broth, unsweetened apple sauce, grits or oatmeal, milk, decaf, no creamer or sugar, greek yogurt, and vegetables. and goes down to clear liquids only 2 days before. I just hope I can make it on this diet for a week, I'm not worried about after surgery, cuz I won't be hungry like that, but before hand, will power and hunger scare me! Banded, good luck on your surgery! It sounds like you're all ready! Yikes! I haven't told anyone but hubby either. I am hoping this works because I have never been able to really stick to a diet for more than a week, and not lost more than 10-15 pounds and that was only 2 times...years ago! So, I'm hoping this will be the miracle I need! I'm ok with losing -2 lbs. a week, shoot that's more than I can consistently EVER do on my own! I just really need this to work, and I want to still feel normal in my daily life. I don't want to be deprived. -
What to have at home?
glitter eyes replied to mp24's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I brought extra small bowls and plates and baby spoons and forks to eat with. That really helped with portion control. Loved using the tiny spoons when I was able to eat yogurt. They helped slow me down. A good scale came in handy when I was able to start purée and solids. -
I have felt literally perfect until friday. I started feeling lightheaded. Friday I didn't get much down at all. Yesterday I felt better and got my fluids and protein in. Today I have had 19 g of protein, some milk, yogurt, and soup. I feel really lightheaded. I know my body is changing. I have lost 17 pounds since surgery date. Am I doing something wrong? I will call doc tomorrow, but I wanna have a good day to day and get some things done.

How much should i be able to drink?
cindyw41 replied to Wehrm's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
2 days post op I will still be on clear liquids. 3-4 days post op I will be on full liquids (Protein drinks, yogurt, Jello exc). During the full liquid stage all of it contributes to the daily intake.
