Weight Loss slowed a bit; Still Enjoying Banded Life

My first checkup was great...this week I checked my weight, and I'm only down a pound (25 total for the entire journey). I wanted more, but then, that's my personality. I want it gone yesterday ...now that I can see the end of the 'obese life' I want it to be done and over with so I can get on with the new, healthy life I've planned for myself. Realistically, it will probably take the better part of a year. I'm shooting for a healthy 10 pound loss per month - I feel it's doable if I watch my calorie count and work out like I know I should. Winter is tough - my walks outside are getting a little harder due to weather. The only do-or-die walk I take is with my dog every morning. He can't take a day off - that's when he does his 'business'...and he's a great reason for me to get off my lazy duff and get out the door, no matter what. I do like the gym - that's one of my saving graces...even when I was younger, and eating WAAAY too much, I had the gym and physical activity to help keep me under some semblance of control. When I stopped being that active was when the weight really came on. That, and having children. I was heavy when I got pregnant with my son Ron, but only gained 15 pounds under doctor's advice. My son weighed over 9 1/2 lbs, so I did really well. Of course sitting around at home and gaining 50 lbs after he was born did NOT help... Now I'm dealing with the head hunger, but it's getting a little better every day. I've transitioned out of mushies and am getting slowly acclimatized to "regular" food again. I still don't do well with sandwiches, and I think I'm still drinking too much during the meal - though it's way down from what I used to do. It's a process, and I've got to be patient with myself. I have currently lost more weight since beginning this process than at any time in the previous 5 years...I've got to remember that, and not be too hard on myself. I decided on this process BECAUSE it did not promise "instant" results and BECAUSE I had more control over the process. Now I just have to relax a bit and let the process continue to work for me...
  2. Yep normal. I am more than three weeks post op and it still hurts a little.
  3. So, I've had my band for over 3 years. (1149 days to be exact!) For the past 2 years I've been able to run my finger over my port and feel it through my skin. I never really gave it much thought but it always seemed to be smooth. Monday night I was laying on my back in bed watching TV and reached down there to scratch an itch and felt my port. It was different somehow. It seemed to have a divot in the middle. I was slightly concerned that maybe something had happened to it so Tuesday morning I called the Lapband nurse and told her. She said "There is a divot in it. The doctor has to hit the divot with the needle when he adjusts the band." Seriously? All this time and I never noticed that? The only thing that makes any sense to me is that I have lost another 12-15 pounds in the last couple months and maybe that last little bit of fat on top of it is gone. Who knew?
  4. Mine went better after a week a lot of cravings and headaches.... But after I weithed myself and I was down 7 pounds give me the energy to finish up this week. My surgery is on the 30th!

    How Do You Burp?

I am 3 weeks post op and I burp about 20 times a day and I never burped before. It is embarrassing! Pebbie

    Tummy bump help?!

You can't target weight loss. You could do 1000 crunches a day and all you'll end up with is a nice six pack UNDER a layer of fat. The weight's going to come off where it wants to come off. The body is very stubborn that way. Toning through strength training only visibly helps when you have a very low body fat percentage. Trust me. I know a LOT about this. I have ridiculous amounts of weight on my hips and thighs. I run or bike 4-6 days a week and do lower body strength training 3 times a week. All my fat is still coming off places like my face, ribs, arms, back.....

    Two weeks post op

Today I am now two weeks post op and have lost 27 lbs. I have noticed around my large incision I have been feeling almost like a popping feeling. I'm not sure what if it is the port moving? Has anyone else experienced this feeling and if so do you know what it is? Thank you!

First day eating after First fill.

This morning Breakfast was NOT good. Once a week I will eat out and today I had a Breakfast burrito. I chewed really well, but I think I ate to fast. I only got about 5 bites in, I would estimate about 1/2 a cup worth of food, and the pain was to much. This time it hurt really bad, and the pain would come and go about every 15-20 seconds. It radiated through my back, as well as hurting high in my stomach. I immediately stopped eating (although I could not imagine continueing). I started to walk around and that eased the pain a bit. I continued to walk and work through the pain. The whole time this was going on, I started burping, and that would provide some temporary relief, but not much. Then I started producing some very thick saliva, which I had to spit out, since swallowing anything else at this point was out of the question. I had been walking for about 15 min. and it seamed as if things were getting better very slowly. I had been feeling like I was going to throw up, and I was resisting that. Finally it happened, I through up. It was a strange sensation since it seemed to come from the top, or rather above my stomach. Immediately I felt better. I am sure this is PB'ing and Sliming as mentioned numerous times on here. Any suggests as to what is wrong? I would like to think it was just a matter of eating too fast. I can fix that myself. I was able to eat dinner last night which was a lean cousine, swedish meatballs and Pasta. That went down without incident, although I did have some pain and discomfort.

    emotional rollercoaster

I also delt with this emotion, about week 2-3 after my surgery, I was miserable, felt so sorry for myself, but as time went by I got used to the amount of food I could eat, and now I am very happy with everything. Hang in there it will get better.

    Sleeved nurses.

I work L&D, took 6 weeks. Surgeon said was the minimum he would allow because he knows how us nurses are and I'd be doing things I shouldn't. Lol. But I too needed a minimum of 3 to get good energy back. Take your time off and be good to you for a change

    Sleeved nurses.

I work oncology med surg and my doc gave me a minimum of 6 weeks and said it could be more if I didn't feel ready. Doesn't want to risk a hernia, etc with lifting, pushing, pulling, etc. Hope you can get more time.

    Sleeved nurses.

I am a labor and delivery RN. I took the 6 weeks they gave me and got it extended to 8. At 6 weeks I just felt that my energy level was still up and down. By 8 weeks I was ready to get back into the game 100%. I had pain for the first 3 weeks. I am not the person who used the Vicodin once! I used it for 3 weeks plus. The binder that they gave me really helped. I wore it all the time for the first 3 to 4 weeks. I had a lot of pain at the bigger inc site that most of the work is done through. But really the energy level thing was the hardest part. I work 12 shifts overnight so I did not want to go back too soon and then feel bad and have to call out.

    Sleeved nurses.

My surgeon said I could take off two weeks with lifting restrictions. I have a wonderful team I work with that would help. I am thinking of taking three weeks off though.

  21. Hi Everyone: I am looking for some advice on how to get off of coffee and diet coke. I drink about 3 to 4 cups of black coffee with 1 sweet & low and drink 1 diet coke a day. I work from 4 pm to 12 am Monday through Friday and have a 6 and 9 year old that keep my busy during the day so caffeine is my friend. I have also been trying the 2 week pre-surgical diet. I use Slimfast Low-Carb 3 times a day and make one meal with a Protein, vegetable and either rice or Pasta. I am thinking of adding 2 salads because what I have read I can have as much salad as I want as long as I stay within 3 tablespoons of fat free dressing. Any advice would be great. I have lost 3 pounds in 2 weeks and hope to lose a little more before surgery. Thank you. Debbie
  22. Well, I had my sleeve on 3-16-2016 and kinda had a difficult time. I ended up having a hiatal hernia repair as well. This has made it really hard for my to drink, everything is getting stuck in the middle of my chest. I know really I have been trying to increase my fluid intake but getting to 60 fl oz seems impossible at this point. I have not had any pain medication at this point today and feeling pretty good, no nausea. So I'm hoping this is the turning point for me! Good Luck anyone having their sleeve in the near future. 23. After being banded 1.5 weeks, my doctor decided to move me from liquids to mushies. I was enjoying the great weight loss on the liquid diet and not getting hungry. I'm worried about gaining weight on mushies and solid foods. The doc indicated that I should be on solid foods my next appointment. Are my worries unfounded? He indicated I shouldn't worry about calorie counts, just recognizing feelings of fullness. I don't know what to think of expect.
  24. I am coming up on 1 year. It was more hard in the first few weeks /months than it is now. New habits are formed. New eating techniques, food choices, going to the gym, etc. Practice makes perfect! It becomes a normal day to day way of life. I am being totally honest when I say there are days I don't even think about the band. Weight loss has slowed, but I am within 10 lbs of my goal. As long as I am not gaining and still moving in the same direction.
  25. I have restriction and I cant drink when I eat as it causes great discomfort. But I can eat ANYTHING. Some things are harder than others - apples and other fresh fruit are hard for me, but I still eat them, just carefully. I had a very strong craving for a Bic Mac a while ago - not a food I have a problem with overeating and not somethign I'd crave often, in fact its the only time in 4 years, so what the heck, I'm a healthy weight, I had one. I ate 3/4 of it, I took it slow but I had no particular trouble. that's from someone who's 4 years out, well and truly at goal (and past it) and maintaining with no trouble. I do a lot of exercise, so I dont need to have my band very tight and this way, I find there's absolutely no restriction on normal eating. I've had to learn of course to handle the "sometimes" foods, but that's a GOOD thing. I dont really desire to have those things off my menu simply because they're impossible to eat because then I dont think you're really learning to manage your own eating.
